Really cute and poetic game ! Well done :)
Very cute little game!
Nice idea! Although small, I felt inside the game :)
Very interesting little game, I really enjoyed its art style. :)
not that much of a game, but cute and nice atmosphere from the art and music
Really sweet <3
I love the idea, and the graphics and sound are great!
In terms of graphics, the sketch art integrated with the natural photography gives a great effect. I feel like their could have been some subtle atmospheric effects around the island, just to lend a little more life to match the soundscape in the background.
In terms of audio, the design was fantastic!
In terms of gameplay, I feel the game should have been sped up somewhat. The little brother needs too much food, and he does not fetch enough sticks. For me at least (I don't know how much random generation affects the play time) the game dragged on a little bit too long. One more random event could also have been helpful. That's obviously just my experience and opinion, and I'm sure many others would disagree.
Fantastic work overall! Best mood of all the games I've played so far.
The sketches on photograph created a pleasant effect. The atmosphere from the ambient sounds tied it together.
TerraCottaFrog's experience was the opposite of mine, my session ended in about 2min and I only fed the brother once. I wanted more!
Maybe to keep things going, the brothers could build a raft instead of a hut, then travel downstream to a new place with different stuff to fish up!
A very happy and cute little game. I love the simple gameplay idea, and both the music and graphics is great for this kind of game. Well done.
I really dig this game. It had a very well worked graphical style and cuteness. The audio fit superbly to the rest of the game. Starting out, I confused the beginnings of the hut with being a fireplace. So it was a tad bit confusing with if I was suppose to light it and cook the food on it. I also was about to quit before the end since there wasn't any visible progress in keep feeding your friend, but I was happy to stay and get to the end. Of course it would also have felt a little better if you couldn't walk on top of the hut. That blanket, I thought I needed to pick it up but the beets kept being in my way. These are just details though, it is a really fantastic little game!
Awww, a really sweet little game. I didn't understand the mechanics at first, but I have a feeling that the game was really forgiving and that it didn't hurt that I accidentally left my little brother hungry and sad for a while. The music was nice and the little sound effects were very cute (that is to say fitting very good). It took quite som time for me to finish, and I'm not sure I would have stayed for much longer without more feedback about getting closer to a goal. I'm happy to have played this!
A cute game, matey! It's a pity, very short and Safari did not play sounds for me in html5 version((( Liked the art style very much! Take a look at mine, matey! We are on the same page! :)

Thanks @terracottafrog, @prettylucky and @local-minimum for the extensive feedback :) The play experience is so different from player to player, as I used "random numbers" to decide when to spawn the next seed/branch. This made it really hard to balance in the end and I run out of time to change it. Also @local-minimum: yes I realized it was looking like a fireplace as I was drawing it too, so I definitively agree ^^ Ran out of time to redo it, the hut was done in the very end. And @terracotta-frog, on the atmospheric effects. I made a subtle water animation, because I felt the same, but I ended up removing it from the game later, as it tripled the games size. Here is what it looked like (it's really subtle): http://orig15.deviantart.net/d459/f/2017/120/c/0/screen7_water_by_rick_tinyworlds-db7mlmu.gif In the concept art I also had some reflections in the water, which added a lot to the visual look .. but no time to make such a shader ^^
Very nice little game. The atmosphere is lovely. Reminds me of Samorost which is one of my favourites! I love it! I would love to play a larger version with more levels.
A beautiful little game! Awesome core concept, and you show it off well. Really loved the art style. Was very cute! :D
I have now also rated your game.
Cute art, love the style. If you get a chance check out and rate our entry https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/down-the-rabbit-hole
I dig the art! And the audio goes well with it! Unfortunately my brother remained perpetually sad and I wanted to give him a hug but I could only feed him turnips and let him stay sad :< Heh, great entry though!
Lovely mix of art style. Thanks for the experience.
Really enjoyed the art and music and sound and general mood of the game. The pacing was a bit annoying and I thought it was stuck when all he fished out was berries and was just sad all the time. I think the gameplay needs work to make it more interesting. Great work with the cuteness though!
@impbox Thanks for the feedback! The balance is quite different from player to player, as I unfortunately used random numbers in the wrong places of the design.
Pretty and picturesque entry, it absolutely succeeds in creating the right kind of mood. :)
I made it !!
It was simple and beautiful. I loved your atmosphere so poetic and expressive, it really got to me. I apreciated the originality and personnal touch of the mixed technique, I think that it participates greatly in producing the moving ambiance that produces your game. But above all, huge congratulation about the sound design, the guys next to me are totally overrating all the jam games right now just because your music is playing in the background : ) It is for sure extremely touching.
It's rated <3
This was adorable! Exactly what LD should be, thanks for the experience!
10\10 !!!

I loved the mood and experience created in this game of the two brothers helping each other. I found the graphics/aesthetics pleasing and innovative. The sound and music were excellent. I don't know if there is a way to "beat" the game, but I did play for quite a while to try to find out. Well done!
So adorable, I'm dying! Followed you on itch, I really hope you do more things in this style, it's so gooood!
Very nice game, a little on the shorter side. it would be interesting to see what you could expand off this, very interesting and unique idea!
Love the cute drawings and animations :)
Oh, I've beaten it! Ok, that was cute even if very simple.
SO. CUTE. I love this. I love the brothers on a little island build a fort theme. I love the precious music. I love the depth of field. I love the voice work. Wonderful. Thanks for letting me experience this. Really well worth your 72 hours and my 5 minutes.
A relentlessly cute little game. I really dig it, but your little mans needs an adorable little walk animation!
Very cute! I like the idea of managing a small island
And it's cool seeing another stencyl game in the jam! Good job
You had very good idea for graphics. Nice work.
Super cute and simple! The voice acting (or would you call it Foley voice sfx) was pretty suburb in my opinion, it's rare that you can tell what such simple whoosh's and awh's mean. I love that there's nothing telling you what to do and how, haven't seen enough entries that let you figure out the purpose. Unique artwork as well! I normally wouldn't like a photograph as a background, but you sold it well with the style. Great job :D
Cute game, lovely graphics, peaceful music and ambient sounds, definitely let my nephew play this :D
really good idea and a cute little game :)
Really cute graphics. It fits very well togehter with the background! I would have liked more tasks and that the player was able to move a bit faster. Overall a lovely relaxing game with a good mood! :)
You asked me to release my game as a web version. here you go: https://gamejolt.com/games/the-adventure-of-malvin/253679
Nice little game with awesome graphics. I liked the relaxing atmosphere and mood, good job!
The artwork was fantastic, and although the gameplay was a bit shallow, it was enjoyable. As most of the other comments have mentioned, having one or two more interactions available would have gone a long way towards making it feel less repetitive. I would have also liked to see a little bit more animation in the background elements (though that would have understandably been a lot more work).
Overall, a very cute entry!
A minor note on the controls: the existing scheme is a bit uncomfortable, supporting alternate inputs (i.e. arrows for movement or e for action) would make it a bit easier to play.
@sean-s-leblanc Thanks for the thought-trough critique Sean!
You created a lovely atmosphere!
The art is very cute and I like the combination of the photograph with simple designs. Maybe a small cycling water animation around the bait and the rock would have help for a better integration, and some particules to make this small world a bit more lively. Otherwise you did a great job with the sounds and the cute lullaby!
Concerning the game play, it's simple but the experience is nice and the progression is fast... so no time to get bored! It's quite relaxing and satisfying to build something. I like the interactions between the brothers, they are so cute I would love to have more options! I think it would be a good concept for a collaborative/multiplayer game too.
I enjoyed playing this little game, and it was so far one of my favorite entries! Looking forward to seeing more! keep up the good work :)
I love the art style, very different and creative, the photography background looks great with the sketch art and I like how only a few things are colored. Also, everything is adorable.
Thanks for the great feedback @foya and @fisilva! There actually was a water animation in the game, but I removed it from the Web version, as it increased the file size by 10mb. I thought about multiplayer too, maybe this is sth. I could do in a future project :)
That was so cute! I got a little overburdened with turnips and I stuffed my little brother with so many of them I was very worried he'll start feeling bad from eating too much.
But he went on stick fishing combo instead and we finished the hut in few seconds.
Graphics and music went really well together. It was missing some more interactivity and background felt a little too dead but it was a solid entry.
What a cute and sweet entry! The graphics style also very cool, he reminds me Amanita Design (Botanicula). Good job guys! :)
I was almost giving up because I didn't notice that the sticks were gonna end up becoming a tent. I was sure the purpose was to make a camp fire haha.
I wish this one was longer T________T The graphics, the voice acting and de water sfx, this is a very aesthetic piece of art you made.
Congratulations to the team!
That was cute and beautiful. Very short, but it was pretty little game. I would advice this game for little children who can learn how to use a computer this way. :)
Adorable game with an awesome backdrop and fitting atmospheric music. The character moves a bit slowly but it's still fitting to the relaxed atmosphere. Game direction was pretty clear from the beginning so I knew what to do. I wasn't sure whether feeding your mate made any difference though, I assumed without food s/he stops fishing.
My only complaint would be that the game is pretty short. I would have loved to see more of that scenery.
One note: I was able to download the game via the itch.io app, so I assume you marked it as Windows-compatible. However it doesn't play from the app. It plays fine from the website, but I thought you might want to know.
Edit: I recalled one thing, though: Having different keys for pick up and drop didn't really serve a purpose as you can't drop when you don't have anything and can't pick up stuff if you have something, so I think one key would have been more practical. Also having WASD for movement and then having the action keys on the left side of the keyboard as well (for US keyboards) is a bit unwieldy.
Thank you @teslov @zaibakk @dakikad @iluvatar and @cerno-b for the feedback! Really interesting :) As far as it goes with the itch.io App glitch @cerno-b I'm gonna contact the itch guys. I checked and it's not marked for Windows. (the Browser version works on all major desktop platforms tho)
Calling a game "Short and sweet" is a bit of a chicle. But this game is very sweet and also (a bit to) short.
The little characters somehow reminds me of the "Mucklor" from the [Pettson and Findus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pettson_and_Findus) series of chlildens books.
grön-muckla.jpg
(As far as I know these books are not very known abroad, but in Sweden they are something _everyone_ reads as a child)
If I would change anything I only change one thing: move the 'Pick up' from z to more or else anywhere else,
As for the background sounds. This is the first entry in this LD where I've kept the game running in the background long after I finished playing. It's so soothing.
@jordgubben Thank you for the feedback! I actually know Petterson and Findus, the TV series was/is quite popular in Germany :)
Loved the paper art style! A issue I had (maybe it's webGL related) was that the water sound could be heard looping.
@tajamsoft Interesting. What browser did you use?
Cute little experience. Lovely art style. :)
Didn't understand easy what I have to do, but nice graphic and sound work. Really enjoyable
Nice graphics and story, but the gameplay was a bit short. You could have build in some more things to interact with.
Controls where akward
Liked the audio
I like a lot of what is going on except it doesn't really feel like a game to me. A little like Don't Starve
Thanks for the comments! Maybe the next commenters can go into more detail again on why/how they like or dislike a certain part of the game. This helps a lot :))
I'll try to put a finger on what exactly felt "right" about it, but I keep coming back to the thought that it all fit together well. The audio, the unique visual mix style, and even the speed of the characters. It felt cohesive and unified. Great job!
Very intimate and reduced style, enjoyed my time with it :)
Absolutely adorable! Loved how you blended the background image with the pencil and paper style. Gameplay was kinda repetitive, and not so fun. I'd say that it is a very interesting aesthetic experience, and the kind of game that is not about fun, but more about the mood, I guess.
Great job!
Super cute little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNjIIPVrvYI
