I sure hope the actual turtle towing us along isn't as terrible at avoiding rocks as I am :D Thanks for the invert controls option, once I found that I got into the groove it was really fun, the atmosphere worked nicely, and flying between the rocks when there were lots after about a 10x multiplier was intense but felt great.
Whoa so much juicey goodness! Love all the effects, and the concept is simple but super fun! Love the suuuper loud booms and it's just so pretty (before you blow it all up)
It's a really sweet concept, so simple at it's core but the mechanics explain themselves really elegantly, and it's been executed beautifully. I could imagine it being fleshed out into a really complex simulation even with just that one cool idea of changing the area that gets sunlight. The music and art work perfectly with it too, and I loved the out of energy death message
So adorable, I'm dying! Followed you on itch, I really hope you do more things in this style, it's so gooood!
Wow I played this for like an hour! Didn't beat it, but it's really fun. It's be a lot easier if the world wrapped around, but it wouldn't have fit the theme that way, and I like how many things you have to think about before placing a tile too. Rewards patience! Amazing stuff again :D
Love the art style, works so well! I was a bit confused by the UI until I read the controls, but it's a really fun idea!
I managed to finish the levels but like some others it took me a while for me to figure out, and I'm not sure I really understood the mechanics completely. I realised I had to get water to the trees to complete the water cycle, but it was never clear exactly when I could put water on a square and when I couldn't. But that said, the art is really cool, both the level itself but also the style of the menues and things. The music is great, and it seems like there's a really cool concept there that just needs a bit of explanation. Some animation when you click things might help communicate what's going on when players are interacting.
Still a really awesome entry, well done!!
One of the things I love about pixel art is how much emotion and personality you can read into characters. This uses that really well, coupled with the beautifully done sound and music. It's so simple but conveys an atmosphere so well.
I really love it! The idea of exploring a bigger environment where you can't really see what's going on is really exciting. It creates an amazing atmosphere, and it's a great exploration of the theme too. Art and audio are top notch. I'd love to see it expanded with more story elements, and building on the tension that's here already. Awesome job!
Man that art and character design is something else, well done! Music is super sweet too!
The idea of using morse in a game is really intriguing! I'd have loved to see more ramp up in difficulty, but it works! Love how much expression you got into the art too!
Unbelievably polished in such a short time, awesome work!
Such a rad style, the intro sequence and meows are the best!
Oh man, this looks and feels amazing! So incredible for 48 hours. Hope you do some more on it cause it's a blast to play! I'd love to see a dodge move and some health pickups, maybe rapid fire to save my poor thumb from cramping, although I kinda like that old school feel of mash as fast as you can, so I guess that could be a powerup heheh :D
Lovely art style, really pretty and an amazing amount of content for the time. Plus cool mechanics too!
Phew beat it! The faceted world looks so good and works beautifully with the gameplay, really great concept and execution!
Holy cow you guys have smashed it again! Amazing stuff, love me some mini metro and this scratches that itch so well. The design is really clean and intuitive, picked it up effortlessly without reading any instructions, and the difficulty ramps up perfectly. And obviously it looks and sounds fantastic. Kudos!
Yeah, love the retro stylings, especially menu art, looks great. One suggestion- A bit of smoothing on the lane changes would have been nice!
You really feel the theme come through in this one, man, those asteroids are jerks! Love this. Really cool concept, and beautifully executed. Having to adapt to surviving without certain equipment that gets damaged is really interesting. I agree that it's super hard though!
I've played some amazing LD games so far, but this is legit the most fun i've had. Nothing mindblowingly innovative gameplay-wise, just shootin' some bears with me nuclear arms. I've gotta go play the previous games now!
Sweet! I was hoping for some cool power simulation games like this! Almost decided to make a power grid sim ourselves, so glad there's some stuff like this I can play :D
Some suggestions if you're planning to do more on it: * I would have loved some more things to tweak and balance, * Maybe an iterative level system where you can tweak the control rods after surviving a day? * The effect the weather had could have been more noticable, although maybe that goes against the realism :P
The scope of this is impressive! Feels incredibly deep for something created so quickly. I felt like I kinda understood the core concept and what to do, I didn't figure out what armies were for, but loved spying on my guys to try and work out who to imprison, really cool.
Thanks everyone! @simonhutchinson So glad the mechwarrior vibe came through! Yeah the waves of enemies and dialog went in minutes before the deadline, so we didn't even try them before uploading the build! I'll probably make a post jam fix to those :D
Love the art, details like the asteroids breaking up are really nice, the whole thing looks great! The mechanic was cool, I wasn't sure why there were 2 hunter ships rather than just 1, I tried to just upgrade and use one of them as much as possible. I guess it makes it more interesting for the fuel ship to be balancing both though. Overall a lot of fun though, and really polished, well done!
yeah great job for 12 hours! I think with a bit more time the atmosphere would be amazing, I can see the potential with the sweet style in the cutscenes, coughing, blood, etc. pretty cool!
I found spacebar and enter kinda hard to use, something like arrow keys z and x might be easier in future?
I love the design behind this so much! Amazing job creating something so unique in such a tiny amount of time!
Wow, this is super impressive! The art is amazing, really beautifully done. The lighting an effects give a slightly arcadey feel which really suits it, but it's still really detailed and fits the subject matter. I had some issues with the controls too, although I think it's more the camera than controls, I'm used to camera folliwng the roll, and not having that meant you had to orient the plane to your controler in your head and I found that quite difficult. But then I know how much time good cameras can take, they're freakin hard! So yeah, super impressed!
I liked the old man bear sounds, gave him great character even though you don't see his face! And the wood curls from your claws when you fall are a great touch too! Wish it had a score high score so I could brag about how high I got ;)
Such a happy lil game! Those clouds <3
Oh man I love the style so much. Dripping with atmosphere, awesome job!
I loved the art and particularly character/enemy design so much. The boss was really great! The core mechanic was super solid too. Great stuff!
Love the fast paced craziness, so much fun! The platforming being a little wacky at times I think worked with the style so didn't really matter, just made me laugh more ;D
You did a great job with the sound since it was your first try! Some variation in the footsteps might have been nice, it wasn't a particularly menacing sound, although with the tone of the game it worked wonders. You could have made it start slower and increase in speed as it got closer as a better indicator than just volume too. And maybe had a clearer audio cue when it was almost upon you. It was hard to tell how long you had left basically.
But the tone was spot on. And the art, audio and design all worked nicely together to give that super creepy feel. I think the best improvement would probably be better explaining in-game how to play, I understood the flashlight and clicking on doors from the tutorial, but nothing said "you're being chased, listen to where it's coming from and choose a door to run away) I had to quit and re-read the description on the download page to figure it out. I also didn't figure out what was happening when I was dying, that the game was over when it said "level 1" again (since I was clicking too fast and didn't hear the voice).
But yeah, overall a really sweet game, well done!
Nice game, I can imagine it being fast paced fun with a buddy to play with for sure! I really like the light hearted tone, the music you picked and the art style really work well!
Suuuuper rad! Dripping with style. Don't really know what else to say, couldn't fault it!
Really lovely atmosphere, enjoyed this a lot!
Blown away, love it! You crammed so many good ideas and so much content in the time. Congrats!
Like some others I really wanted to see the end, but didn't make it through unfortunately. But the haphazard style is awesome, wanna see more like this!
Super cute! All the details are great, the electrical zap is an awesome way to communicate which thing you're powering. And the core loop is solid, kept me playing for ages! Loved the fat hamster music too :D
I'm impressed by how much you accomplished, don't see this kind of game that often. Agree with others that I wanted to zoom out, and I guess there's so many strategy game features you could add, but what's there is all really tight! It was a nice balance between tower defense simplicity with controls more like a strategy RTS, really smart design. And yeah I liked the quirky music too!
Good work getting the simulation side in, pity you didn't get to add the final layer, but you can see the potential!
Graphics and visual effects are brilliant, and the slowing down mechanics is great, auto-balances itself nicely so you have loads of near misses but then comebacks. Great stuff!
Hey really really lovely game. Such an elegant mechanic that works beautifully. Simple to pick up but interesting depth. And you nailed everything about it, the visual style, controls, and audio.
To help players find the gifs they've saved in a game I'm working on, I open the folder when the player quits or defocuses the game after saving the gif, (makes it easy to find it and tweet it if they want :) )
This unity code does the trick, at least on windows: ```c#
void OnApplicationQuit() { if ( m_hasSavedGif ) { Application.OpenURL("file://"+m_gifFolder); } } void OnApplicationFocus(bool focus) { if ( focus == false && m_hasSavedGif ) { Application.OpenURL("file://"+m_gifFolder); } } ```
Thanks everyone for the awesome feedback. Yeah we had the idea for trying to avoid people giving you complements early on but it took us ages to work out what game to put around it. Kinda pivoted to being a sidescrolling shooter on the last day and didn't really double down on any shooter mechanics. But really happy it's still fun!
@pkenney Ha ha, yes I was trying to channel the Streets writing those lyrics, listening to the Original Pirate Material album over and over :D
Aww yess! Only the 2nd nuclear arms game I've played, but I'm a fan already. I was shovin' babies in that fountain until i could deliver them and then they all started climbing over each other and getting out, and cars were going everywhere and the giant baby tower was floopin around... genius.
Nice! Especially loved the silly sense of humour and the chirpy sounds!
Wow, I didn't expect this game to have such a great sense of humour :D Aww man I feel bad for killing that crab. I just meant to pet it, honest! I liked the low fi grainyness, really brought back memories of older PC survival games. I would have liked to see the UI fit with that style too (although it was *very* nice for a jam game!). And a crosshair ( maybe just a dot) would have helped with selecting things. but really nice and you must have worked really hard to get that much done!
Suuuuper tight! We had a very roughly similar idea about too many people appreciating you, although very different approach ha ha. And ours ended up as a side scrolling shooter too, (although we only decided to do that on the last day). Anyway, amaaaazing art, style and gameplay as usual. love it!!
Really nicely done! Great art and the gameplay is simple to grasp but has a nice depth to strategy, so you hit a really great balance. If it's in your means to add some AI I think it'd be worth it. Nice to see a higher res AGS game too, (I found this through he AGS forums actually) it's really solidly coded, feels very smooth and nice.
Good stuff!
Cool atmosphere! It was tough but controls were tight. It gets really tricky with a bunch of ghosts so the theme really shines through!
Really creative mechanics, insanely nice art and so much polish on everything. The cheeky ghosts are the best! I'd echo the other commenters that some level design polish would bring it home, but it's SOOO hard to do that in a gamejam, and you did an insane amount as it is. AWESOME! :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:
Oh man I was laughing out loud by the end, so much fun! I loved the last section so much. The art style, sound and physics mesh so well together, it's really something special.
Really cool! I won... I guess... died in a drunken brawl like a true miner :) The concept is great, the minigame worked great with the theme, and was fun. It was really nicely fleshed out and felt like a complete package, which is hard for something with random encounteres like this I imagine. I really enjoyed it!
Yay wizards! It didn't run well for me inside a browser, if you update with a windows build I'd love to give it another go. The animations on the cart alone were fantastic!
@aj-jones Oh cheers! I was using the itch.io app and didnt see it :D
I love the art, and very cute in general. NEEDS MORE CATS. Also, music was a little repetitive but extra audio points for the game over music sting :kissing_cat:
As an ex-EA employee myself I can confirm the accuracy of this simulation. Nice one!
I love typing games, and this was really fun! Suggestions: - I felt it was too easy even on the hardest setting. Could be faster to ramp up. - I think if each zombie never had duplicate letters I wouldn't have to be so careful not to press the same letter twice (which is the main way I lost health) (although thinking about it, it does fit the theme) - Or you could have a cooldown on a letter disappearing before you lose health for pressing it.
But all said really good, the presentation was great, really nice entry!
Such a good hook! Seemingly simple but with so much depth, and completely nailed the theme!
If you're doing some more post jam, I think you'd improve the feel by adding jump input queuing (let players hold jump slightly before landing to trigger the jump on land) and also allow players to jump a split second after moving off the ground. Makes platforming a little easier, but I know I managed to tie myself up in knots constantly, so I think giving some extra help can't hurt ;)
Fantastic all round! I just dove in without reading instructions, and it was great when I ran out of ammo and had that realisation that I had to start conserving. Lots of quick dashes to the next ammo pack! The glitch effect on the walls as they close in is so good, and I love your sfx style.
Ahh, keep allllmost getting there, got to 14 a few times, and was preying for a steam vent, never quite made it. It's been a while since I've had to make such tight jumps, they're really satisfying when you nail a bunch in a row. The UI feedback is great with the little scale bounce and polish touches. It makes a really compelling mechanic when you juuuust scrape through and get another bag. Also spot on theme-wise, and just a funny concept, great fit to the happy art too!
Yeah, really nice effects, and great use of the theme. How good are jams are great for learning new tools like the aquas thing! The effect was very cool, the bubbles rising and everything... very nice. I think sourcing some music would have made all the difference to set the tone even if you're not in the audio category. I liked that I kept climbing to peaks only to see there's a bigger peak if I'm quick enough, pity you didn't get buoyancy working, but the idea was there!
Awesome! Played it with my 4 year old who's obsessed with trains and he was laughing his head off, (also meant I I appreciated the lack of violence ;) ) The fail animations were all excellent, and I loved the obituaries, really polished all round!
Crazy good! Intense atmosphere, exceptional art, beautifully tied in with the theme, great gameplay and game feel, what more could you ask for? 5 stars across the board!
This hit a little too close to home for me too, played so close after the jam! Got my itch page done just on time though phew! :D Great sense of humour too, well done!
Nailed the atmosphere and it's dripping with juicy polish and audio. I agree it has a great darkest dungeon meets undertale feel. Amazing!
Really fun, and I played for ages! Loved the pixelated video heads, really great effect. There's loads of content here for the time, it's awesome, congratulations :D
Thanks everyone! Sorry about the bugs. The code was a huge mess by the end, I'm surprised it holds together at all! we totally ran out of time to build and balance levels, so I'm really glad Jon thought to add the skip option 😉
Brilliant and hilarious. As a parent I can relate, those unexpected extra knees can be really concerning!
Awesome job! The dark but irreverent tone made me think of darkside detective but still distinctly your style which I love obviously. I don't know how you manage so much art and animation in the time either!
Nice one! As you said on the comment on our game, it's cool to see other games with a similar design. I love the animal theme you had, really cute! You asked about the camera, and we did actually plan scrolling levels but didn't get around to adding a moving camera and controls, so ended up making the levels with the constraint of them being on one screen. I did the levels really last minute (at like, 3am ha ha) but I think I liked that constraint. But yeah, it wasn't a conscious design decision or anything!
Anyway great job!
Love the style and colour choices, bold and bright, lovely. And the main character's little dance was awesome. The dialog with the Supreme Beings when I brought the wrong offering made me laugh too :D
Great stuff George :D I got through it after realising I had to take my time and really watch those raindrops. Navigating those and the mountain was a nice challenge, the concept works really well and all the effects and polish comes through. As others have said, you got a lot of character from very few pixels on the caveman, I love the style.
Oh wow, the visuals immediately grabbed me. Beautiful and atmospheric, the controls are really tight and nice feeling too. I'm going to go play the post-jam build now!
Great job on your first LD! I too loved the ASCII, and the general vibe as well :D
Happy NY to you as well! I can relate to this kandy king guy! My kid loved this entry, he picked it out to play because of the theme ;) Was actually nice there was no time limit for him. He said it would be nice to have different candies needed on different levels too :)
Thanks everyone! It's been lovely sharing all your feedback with Tom! Really showing what a great community LD has and what LD is all about :D
Tom drew a little basket for the bee to carry that I didn't have time to put in, but that could have been a good way to show the pollen the bee was carrying, since it's all guesswork otherwise ;)
If anyone does want to see the ending - in the build on the itch.io page I made a few more combos work to get the special plants. The bee pollenates in the order plants fruit, so if you get the special seeds, best to wait until nothing else is growing to plant them both so you can get the ending one.
When we put it in it felt like a bit of a hidden secret though, and the real goal is just making a nice garden to hang out in ha ha.
That was absolutely great, keep making awesome stuff like this I'll never get tired of playing them.. Very ambitious but you pulled it off. It's thematically interesting even before throwing a curve ball at you, which was executed brilliantly. Games that break my expectations and surprise me are always my favourites and yours always do!
This might be the most impressive I've seen this jam! Looove the art style and micros/early home console feel to the movement, really outstanding. I need more time with it to get further, but it feels like there's a lot of depth there too, a lot more than you'd expect for a jam game! Hope you get more eyes on this one, it very much deserves it!
Awesome to see an AGS game running as webgl! Didn't know that was possible :D Good on you for going for a point 'n click in LD, it's notoriously hard to pull one off in such a short time frame. You did the right thing aiming for a very short thing that you could have time to polish, since the art and audio stand out, giving a great mood. I adore your pixel art, really great :D
Personally, I'd have added a few hints of what to try when you click things (like clicking the lever could say you need a gear to fix it, etc) to push people in the right direction (especially for a LD game where a lot of players wouldn't be familiar with the genre). But I got to the end pretty easily. Made more sense after reading that you intended to add more, it felt like there was more I should have done, to continue to do more potions from the book. But it's plenty for a jam game!
Anyway, congrats on the game!
This was so much fun. Love the crunchy pixels and soundrack is stellar! The round based race kind of thing takes me back to playing micro-machines for some reason :)
Adored all the little details! Thing like being able to accidentally fling people off the planets and things ha ha. So cute in a cosmic horror kind of way :P
I sat down to play some LD games tonight and ended up just playing this one for ages. Really cute, and lots of fun. Great artwork and audio and everything. Congrats on the game an thanks for the fun :D
Fascinating game, I don't see things like this in LD much, great to see! I thought it might be confusing at first but the mechanics were really quite self-explanatory, and it's really satisfying when you get combos that work together nicely. There's a huge amount of depth here for a jam game, awesome work!
The art style is really nice, and it's cool you let the player express themselves with it in the level building stage, simple but effective, that loop of destruction and then creating works great :D image_2023-01-12_115945333.png
Siiikk
Nice work :) I'm also really bad at it, though it's great you show the hitbox, and a clever way of showing it too. There's loads of polish in the gui and stuff, love the health meter :) I'll have to try again to see if I can get further ha ha. image_2023-01-12_120740017.png
Amazing stuff! I couldn't get far past 100, but it's very hard to put down. I keep wanting just one more go. The little string pluck sounds and the nice art give it a great feel too :D I wish there were a few special cards that you could save for when you get in a tight spot, since I felt like quite often I'd get a board filled with 1s but unable to get rid of them. But a really enjoyable game. Well done!
This one really got me thinking! I only manged to please 1 goddess in the half hour I played, had some other leads but needed to work on it more :D I like how simply the info is laid out but how much depth there is in everything. And it's a really interesting setup in line with the theme too!
Nice twist on a fun formula. Loved how many enemies you drew for this! And that title art *chef kiss*. For some constructive crit, I reckon you could have got some easy extra juice from making the enemies flash and/or knockback/pause movcement for a fraction of a sec when hit. Thanks for the game!
Awesome fun! Love the intro and great guitar work on it too! The harvesters are really fun to control, has just the right pace, and the mechanics all work together great. I'll play it again muliplayer later with my kid too :D
Great twist on the growing formula and I love how frantic it gets so fast. Good mix of risk vs reward to keep you on your toes :D
Congrats on the first game jam, you managed to make something really fun with a great style to it. Hope you enjoyed it and do more! I managed 12008 on my best. Only thing was I wish I got time to read all the text but I was too busy watching the popups :D Great take on the theme too!
