LD33 — You are the Monster

Monstaaaaar! by ilikescifi 2015-08-24T23:36:00

I really liked this. I wish there were more levels! Great graphics, very interesting design and game play. Super unique. I only wish that there was a button to make the monster go before the timer ended.

SQUISH PUNY FLESHBAGS by yajiv 2015-08-25T04:18:00

This was very well made. It was definitely unlike any other game I've played so far. I could really see kids and parents loving this as a tool to learn to type as well! Good work!

Takodemon by Split82 2015-08-25T00:43:00

Really pretty and very innovative!

Ro-langs by CogComp 2015-08-24T04:44:00

I actually enjoy the graphics. They're pretty endearing! I think what this is really missing for me is an end game. Nice work! Particularly since this was written in C++. Very impressive!

Late for the Show by Gamepopper 2015-08-24T23:31:00

Good fun! I wish it had a bit more replay value so I could keep going!

namcaP by Jacob123 2015-08-24T23:40:00

I liked this idea a lot. I think your AI could have used a bit of work to make it more of a challenge, but it was very enjoyable! Good work.

Is That Me? by Gil4 2015-08-24T23:25:00

This was a good start to a game. I think with a bit of Juicing you could really make this a great experience!

Additionally, Gil, for my own game: make sure you extract the files. I believe your error stems from that.

Good entry!

Adolf no Baito! by PixelPerfect 2015-08-25T00:28:00

Very funny.

No Credit, No Problem! by Razoric 2015-08-25T01:59:00

Reminds me a lot of Papers, Please!

Succubus by ReactorScram 2015-08-24T23:49:00

I'm a shmup fan so I might be a bit biased but it felt quite good. Controlled well! I also really liked the music haha.

Adula by conormn 2015-08-26T07:15:00

This is a very interesting game. I really enjoy the graphics and sound design. The idea is very unique as well. I just wish there was more than two rooms!

HUNGRY CTHULHU by KodingNights 2015-08-24T10:16:00

Good to see a LibGDX user!

The Monster Agenda by burquitlambadgers 2015-08-25T05:58:00

Like the Sims.. but with a monster.

Laser Monster Defense by hexabeast 2015-08-24T10:06:00

Pretty fun! Quite difficult to play on a laptop though, that's for sure! I did really like your art direction though. I had originally planned to have a similar art direction in my own submission if you can believe it! Great work! Love to see some LibGDX projects!

Mazeotaur by Killbert 2015-08-24T01:31:00

I recognized the Minotaur from one of your posts! A cute game, I would have liked to see more of your Voxel work showcased!

Hymn of the Sages by PowerSpark 2015-08-25T05:45:00

This was a very pretty game. I also really appreciated the tutorial. It's so nice to not have to read a description and remember things on the spot!

Consume by Rocketship 2015-08-24T23:14:00

I quite like the mood of the game. I really feel evil! It would be nice if there was a way to lead a target somewhere dark so I can't be seen. Good concept!

Meet the Monsta by Schrodinger Games 2015-08-25T00:24:00

I absolutely adore this game. The art is amazing, the theme and direction is funny and adorable, the music is hilarious but still so satisfying to hear. My only, and this is not even a real dislike, dislike is I don't feel particularly powerful when attacking. Excellent entry, really stellar work.

Don't Stick Me by mincrmatt12 2015-08-24T22:48:00

The character is indeed blue my friend! My only gripe with this game is that the controls are very wacky. I also noticed that no damage is done when you attack from above. I did enjoy the music though!

Beast Mode by madcapacity 2015-08-25T03:21:00

It was a bit of a mess for me to get into the controls, but the game is quite funny and really interesting! The learning curve certainly pays off.

Steal Alive by Pampattitude 2015-08-24T22:41:00

Great graphics. I really loved the animation!

Combover Monster Campaign Manager by andyman404 2015-08-25T05:03:00

Hilarious! I love it.

Shark Swimulator by Karai17 2015-08-25T04:48:00

This was quite cute haha. I really enjoyed the light humor despite the feeding.

Good Night Monster by Multiplexor 2015-08-24T22:54:00

I really enjoyed this. I've always liked smashing things to bits, and this game really supports that haha.

Do You Understand ? by qkerguelen 2015-08-24T00:47:00

I have some gripes about this game.. but first the good!
I really like jumping on the baddies. I understand I'm the monster here because I do that, but the screen shake and sound is very satisfying!

A little of what I didn't so much enjoy:
Sometimes text would overlap making it very difficult to read what a sign would say.
The level design was rather hindering. It kept me from moving fluently. I had to constantly stop because the movement speed didn't feel like it synced up to the ground placement.

Overall a very decent entry.

Monstermanity by D3giler 2015-08-25T01:55:00

I highly suggest zipping up your data so there is just one consolidated download.

Dead Girls In Space by Fenreliania 2015-08-24T10:22:00

Really nailed the graphics in my opinion. I think your art direction really paid off!

Mangiato by Acerio 2015-08-25T00:05:00

The controls were really tight which made the game very enjoyable. It was also a nice little art style. Good entry!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-24T01:10:00

Why thank you!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-24T23:21:00

Gil, do you have a recent version of Java installed? Did you extract the ZIP file? It is necessary to extract it.

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-24T23:37:00

Glad to hear it Gil! I'm so glad you liked it!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-25T00:00:00

Your whole body is vulnerable for the most part, aside from the "bones" or pipes of the boss. You can generate and test out your character in the generation screen before you enter so you know what you're dealing with. Good feedback Reactor!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-25T18:17:00

I definitely understand what you are saying wg_phancock. I've already got a fix in mind, but since it is not a bug I cannot update the game. Thank you for your kind words everyone!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-26T01:54:00

Shh Cake_Catastrophe!

SPACE JUNK by pixelgriffin 2015-08-27T00:43:00

I agree Cory, this has been brought up a few times. However, since it is more of a design flaw than a bug I cannot fix it in this entry!

Utterly not by uthamon 2015-08-24T23:08:00

I think the level design could have led into understanding the controls a bit better. I didn't know anything about the controls until I read the description here. Particularly the ledge jump thing. Still, I really did enjoy the music and color pallet!

I'm a Monster Rawr! by bakakyo 2015-08-25T04:24:00

This is hands down the cutest game I've played in years.

Futility by Gigaraptor 2015-08-25T00:27:00

Unfortunately, it crashes on Windows 7 for me. Tried at least a dozen times.

Edge Of Code by edgeofcode 2015-08-25T02:14:00

The controls don't feel very tight. There might be a bug pushing you in directions you don't really want to go.

Me by jofra 2015-08-25T02:28:00

This was a very beautiful game. However, it ended very abruptly. I was really hoping for more. Good work!

Doppelhunger by Meat Us 2015-08-25T02:32:00

Couldn't move left and escape did not close the game. Other than that, good entry!

LD35 — Shapeshift

Turret Arena by nikev 2016-04-29T12:30:00

This is very inventive. I really like the game play. I manage to exploit it a bit by just running to the other team's spawn point and placing their turrets around the area.

Really unique, good work!

PERMUTATE by TravisChen 2016-04-21T11:17:00

Really unique idea, loved every bit of it!

The Shinobi Trial by Foxtacy 2016-04-19T02:41:00

I had a seriously hard time with the controls, but I really love the music haha. Me and my girlfriend both love the "yooo" sound too haha.

ShapeDriller Company by psychomonster 2016-04-19T09:47:00

Was.. was that a dick drill?

Shapes.IO by Integershift 2016-04-19T02:45:00

I keep getting hurt from shapes that are my shape.. I like the idea a lot but it needs some juicing and that bug to get fixed!

Soothsayer Simulator 2016 by iceburg7 2016-04-19T04:13:00

Really, really innovative. Love it.

Doug's Existential Potato Paradox by Ryan Kline 2016-04-19T04:42:00

This was seriously funny haha, "I have urges to bury myself in the dirt."

Give me Six by SpiritJZL 2016-04-19T03:31:00

Reminds me of a game I used to play with my mom in restaurants haha. Me and my girlfriend had fun playing!

SPEEDSHIFTERS by pixelgriffin 2016-04-19T03:51:00

Thank you for the kind words, NPC. I should have thought more on the coins, I agree. :)

SPEEDSHIFTERS by pixelgriffin 2016-04-19T04:35:00

I'm glad you liked the sound! It was my lowest category last time and I spent a little extra time on it this time around. :)

SPEEDSHIFTERS by pixelgriffin 2016-04-19T11:03:00

I had intended to have the camera focus on the player, I guess I never really noticed how off-center he was! The vacuum should now be more reliable as well.

SPEEDSHIFTERS by pixelgriffin 2016-04-22T03:56:00

I agree, they blend in a bit too well. I will keep that in mind! Thanks!

SPEEDSHIFTERS by pixelgriffin 2016-04-29T12:31:00

Thank you for the kind words everyone, I will look into fixing this stuck in a corner bug.

Star by Madsj 2016-04-19T13:23:00

Honestly I came in thinking I wouldn't like it, but the controls are tight and the shape-destruction is really satisfying! Loved it a lot, great work.

Oops! My Dear is a Deer by Remdiky 2016-04-19T04:54:00

The art really reminds me of those old CN web games! Loved it! I remember seeing you guys work on the transformation shader too. Really nice work on that.

Volleymania by Avon 2016-05-03T13:31:00

Played with my girlfriend! Pretty fun, I think with some juicing it could be a great loving room game.

String Theory by SemiColon 2016-05-03T13:09:00

Imaginative and brilliant! The story weaves into the game progression very well, and the mechanics are solid and fresh!

Amazing work, I would love to see this further polished!

ChiroNinja by Reiv 2016-04-19T02:52:00

Really like your art style. Amazing color palette!

55 Days by V4lesti 2016-04-19T13:35:00

Really professional! Amazing game. Not sure about the shape shifting, but truly a great game!

LD39 — Running out of Power

Scorched Earth by Rogue Studios 2017-07-31T21:06:40Z

I really liked the core mechanic, driving and shooting feels pretty hefty and satisfying. I think more accurate car physics would really juice up the driving. I really wanted to drift! Haha. I would like to see more enemies too, I felt like they were pretty scarce throughout the world (felt like 2 or 3 every generation?).

I was a little disappointed that there was no endgame though, once I got all of the upgrades there was no satisfaction in having played to the end.

The audio was pretty good too, I felt like the background music was fitting!

Good work!

Robot Guy by Neato 2017-08-01T07:38:30Z

Great direction! Liked the design but I feel like a tutorial is necessary for a game this complicated. Perhaps consider allowing players to create cool contraptions by chaining the abilities of different creations?

Great entry :)

Decarathon by TurbotFish 2017-07-31T23:35:56Z

Cool concept, but honestly I think the marathons last too long. My hand hurts by the end of each run lol.

Island trouble by PiotrJ 2017-07-31T20:34:23Z

Interesting concept, I was really excited by the screenshots to see how this would play!

Unfortunately I didn't really get what I was doing.. I knew I had to research something so I built a ton of research labs and slapped solar panels everywhere. This worked fine and since the game said to beware of coal I figured screw it I'll not use it at all.

At about 50% solar efficiency I guess I won the game some how? I thought I was trying to hit 100% solar efficiency but apparently not?

The game seems really cool, but I would recommend making a clearer end goal, and adding more limitations to the player, such as a cost to build and a currency generator (perhaps factories that draw a lot of power necessitating the use of coal?).

The conveyor belts were cool, had a very Factorio feel to it which I loved. I suspect this is what you were going for? :)

I would love to see this further developed in the future though, I love these kinds of building/resource games!

p o w e r ARM by xand 2017-08-01T04:23:06Z

Great job! I really liked the combat system, it was much more in-depth than I was originally expecting!

I think maybe the tutorial section was a little wonky, and there was the text typing bug but otherwise great!

5/5

Spacy adventure by egordorichev 2017-08-01T07:01:59Z

Good game! I do think that the stars made it really hard to tell where the bullets going though. The art was great though, really cute retro style!

Good work.

Hive Attack! by Runuchok 2017-08-01T08:14:12Z

Love the reference to the Matrix! Interesting gameplay, I'd love to see it developed a little more with more non-linear variables. But it's 48 hours so what you gonna do.

Good work! :)

Powered By Coal by LiquidBrain 2017-07-31T19:29:03Z

This was actually really good. I have to admit I wasn't too interested immediately since the tutorial was extremely wordy, but once I got going I had a great time. I managed to beat the game and had a really good time.

I think if you were to improve anything you could maybe juice it up a bit more? Give a bit more response when something happens. The tutorial was very dry too, I learned most of the controls by feeling it out and your tips later in the game. I also felt like the buttons didn't exactly look like buttons and looked more like icons. This is pretty clearly a problem too when you have to mention that they are actually buttons not icons in the tutorial.

Otherwise the core gameplay I thought was excellent! I love management games, and I feel like if you changed your goals to something more lofty in the game (maybe building a new town instead of just collecting coal, multiple trains?) it could be stretched into a feature title well.

Great work! Had a lot of fun :)

The Berserker by PlexusDuMenton 2017-08-01T03:10:03Z

Game won't run, UnityPlayer.dll not found?

The Berserker by PlexusDuMenton 2017-08-01T07:57:09Z

Happy you got the bug fixed, really liked the dash mechanic! Would love to see you go further with it. I think it might benefit from graphics that are easier to read though.

Good work! :)

Alienation by Robber 2017-08-01T03:48:54Z

I agree that the difficulty was a little easy, but the whole experience is really solid. Very cinematic, very polished. Good work!

P.s. maybe increase the hitbox of healthpacks and a little more bullet response when hitting an enemy?

Zombies and RVs by pixelgriffin 2017-07-31T19:33:38Z

@gonutz Thanks :) I felt the same way about the difficulty curve, but 48 hours you know? Haha!

Zombies and RVs by pixelgriffin 2017-07-31T20:44:57Z

@quemagalletas That's a good point. I had considered this originally but ultimately forgot to try it out haha. If I continue the game, I'll keep this in mind!

Zombies and RVs by pixelgriffin 2017-08-01T10:22:38Z

@zaygellard Ah! Sorry man I don't have a Linux machine to work with so I wasn't sure what architecture was best. I thought I had done Universal but I'll re-export to be certain along with some bug fixes for falling forever through the ground and such.

Zombies and RVs by pixelgriffin 2017-08-01T10:38:58Z

*Update* - Mac and Linux Universal architecture supported. - Fixed falling through the holes in the ground and not dieing. - Fixed RV destruction count being off.

Zombies and RVs by pixelgriffin 2017-08-03T20:10:09Z

Hey @tuism thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I have heard the platforming controls are wonky. AFAIK there is a bug with jumping when not on an RV and some friction issues with RVs and strong angles. I'll fix these up once I get a free moment.

My attachment to the theme is rather benign on the gameplay but it is there. The intro is my attempt to tell a story of a post-apocalyptic man whose generator runs out, and is in dire need of more gas.

As others and myself have attested to, there are character upgrades. If you last a single round at the end you are greeted with a shop of upgrades. Like many rogue-like games players are rewarded after completing a wave/level to encourage continued play and lessen chances of doom. Jumping to dodge zombie attacks tends to help me a lot, maybe it can help you too!

I'll give you a tweet when I update the platforming so maybe I can get more feedback on the physics :)

Charge Infinitum by HacksawUnit 2017-08-01T05:56:08Z

Really well done, amazingly unique mechanic. Absolutely loved how the game played. When I got cursed it was a huge AHA moment at how far you could take this concept.

Great work, also really enjoyed the Undertale feeling to it.

I did wish I could see more about the enemy though (health?)

More Energy! by Kodiqi 2017-08-01T07:26:13Z

Good work! I think extending the gameplay by having different ramifications for the map or your business would be interesting. More variation in the cards would be nice too (or at least a different order for them each time).

Hope to see it further developed!

Dont Die, Greg by LJFMX 2017-08-01T04:33:47Z

Good work! Controls felt a little wonky for a platformer, but otherwise a good entry. Very funny haha

Drain by morphine 2017-07-31T21:23:35Z

Game was cool, interesting premise. You can definitely do a lot with the mechanic in terms of puzzles! I would have liked to see more emphasis on the mechanic in terms of a platformer instead of the darkness deal. Just like the rest of the comments, I too dislike how difficult it is to see anything.

Good work!

Running away from the power packs by guojin 2017-08-01T06:08:38Z

I really loved the character haha. Perhaps have the shards only hurt you when they're flying through the air?

Good work.

Automated Explorer by Aircraft Terrier 2017-07-31T19:57:02Z

I liked the game, but I admittedly couldn't finish it. I really liked the first 5 minutes and was pretty excited to see the third drone type, but after getting all the nearby batteries and unlocking the 2nd drone I found myself searching as many rooms as I could before exploding for a good 5 to 10 minutes. It was frustrating exploring down a hole only to blow up and start all over again.

I think you had a good idea here, but mashing up an adventure/search theme with a restarting from the beginning mechanic is really tricky. If you had maybe added hints of where to go or even just had more batteries closer by it would be easier.

The sound was nice, definitely gives off the retro feel. Really made me feel like the game's graphics and resolution were right at home for the experience. I also liked the color choice frankly. I'm pretty happy to play a retro-esq game not in the game-boy palette for once.

Good work!

Energy Bomb ( 2 Player) by Sir Mr Dr Prof Sr Jr PhD 2017-07-31T20:51:39Z

Well I can't rate it since I'm playing alone, but I did notice that ESC doesn't quit the game haha.

Very Fast Robot Rolling at High Speed by binary_coder 2017-07-31T23:24:41Z

Amazing idea, really cool way to do platforming puzzles. I think there's plenty you could do with this, and the pacing is excellent in this little demo of the idea. Really good.

Some notes: - Not a big fan of an installer rather than just an exe download. Don't think it's necessary, particularly for game maker. - Jumping is pretty broken. I raged a few times because when I jumped I would go super high and hit a ceiling and lose all my momentum and have to try again like 50 times. Seems to happen mostly on slopes. Besides this bug I didn't notice anything wrong with the physics.

Good work!

The King's Final Hour by Drenn 2017-08-01T04:51:31Z

Amazing game, plays very much like fire emblem. Super impressive that this was written in GBA Assembly too!

My only gripe is there are no control explanations. I suggest adding something at least to the LD page!

Great work!

Hyper Battery Girl by Deke 2017-08-01T06:41:41Z

This is quite possibly the best game to come out of this Jam so far. Really tight controls, amazing and unique platforming challenges.

PLEASE work towards a Steam release. This game deserves it.

Defender of the Energy! by BesSlaaneshi 2017-08-01T05:26:16Z

Really solid game, no bugs to be seen and has a really high-energy fun to it. Easy to forget that this was made in such a short time. Feels like something you'd see on the front page of a flash game site.

Awesome work!

CowPow! by Quemagalletas 2017-07-31T20:14:48Z

First of all welcome to LD! I hope you had fun!

As for the game, the concept is cute, but the controls feel impossible to work with. Most of the difficulty in the game comes from struggling to play it, which isn't too fun.

However, I did actually like the art. I had a cute vibe to it, since the game is silly I figure these graphics fit well.

Good entry, I hope you do LD again! :)

Be The President by MrSerp 2017-08-01T05:45:46Z

DRAIN by LERPish 2017-08-01T05:13:42Z

Fun game! Really liked the character design, the shader work was really good.

I would have liked to be able to move while attacking though!

Giuseppe's Kidnapping by VEGACIDE 2017-08-01T06:52:38Z

Awesome innovation with the window frame growing dimmer. I wish it had more of an affect on the gameplay though, it felt a little superfluous.

Good work!
