LD39 — Running out of Power

Flip The Switch by madalaski 2017-08-03T13:51:13Z

I really like the concept and how you implemented the given theme into the gameplay and backstory. Also your art was clean and mostly clear, so I understood quickly what's what. I have to say though, that I'm not too sure what to think of the current mechanics. While I dig the idea of connecting the right parts to one another I never really felt as if I've ever really understood what's happening. That you can basically build stuff without running out of some kind of resource didn't help either. In the end I just packed everything full of random objects, connected them and won after a few minutes. Still a great idea that only needs some good polish to become truly great! :)

Zombies 'n Kebabs by alaah 2017-08-03T13:56:25Z

The art is really good (although the walking animation for the main character looks a bit wonky) and v2 fixed a lot of issues I had at first (like the horrible energy balancing and enemies hitting you out of nowhere). v2 became a fun little thing, especially keeping the limitations of a compo in mind.

Still I feel like I missed some kind of in-joke? I don't really know a lot about MLP stuff so I guess, that's my bad, though.

Orcs in Space by atridas 2017-08-03T12:53:37Z

I loved how this game is pretty much a really, really condensed version of Starcraft 2. And even though I really, REALLY suck at RTS games, I still had a ton of fun with your game, even though it became so stressful for me! :D I can't really say too much negative about it. The only minor things I noticed were the tutorial not being 100% clear for me on what to do, and some weird lines popping up at the edges of the tiles (only rarely though, and might as well be my system). Great job you two! I would love to see this game being continued in the future!

Tomaton by ursagames 2017-08-04T19:16:22Z

This was a really cool little game. I like the idea of having a souls-like with robots and am really looking forward to seeing were you'll go from here with your idea. I also really liked the robot models and the clean look of your world. If I had to criticise one thing it would be the movement controls, for some reason moving the character never really felt right, like he had a mind of his own sometimes. It's really hard to describe :D

All in all fantastic entry though. I loved it :)

Alienation by Robber 2017-08-03T13:22:06Z

This was such a fun little game and so incredibly atmospheric! I really loved the zero gravity gameplay and especially the interesting camera angle you used. Also I liked the little details like the gunshots actually moving depending on where the main character points his two laser guns at. There were a few technical hiccups like door animations bugging out, enemies moving out of bounds or hitboxes sometimes not registering, but all in all I had a ton of fun! And as I said on my stream: with more time investment this could become an amazing metroidvania-style game!

The Last Light by Loktor 2017-08-03T12:49:51Z

Hey, hey! Finally found the time to actually post a comment on your entry! As I said in the livestream: your game is incredibly fun, even though the premise is rather simple. I loved how stressful it gets after a while and I especially loved that you don't limit the player on how many bullets they can shoot. I could just mash away like a madman! :D The only gripes are the jump, which feels very off because of its' weird momentum and the difficulties I had actually seeing the drops from the red enemies.

All in all a really cool entry, especially for the limitations of a compo. Good job :)

Socket Punch! by simex 2017-08-03T22:34:16Z

The art style, music and gameplay are fantastic (especially the charged rapid fire punch)! Sending hundreds of robots flying at once feels just amazing, great job! :D I have one (very) minor gripe though. Charging up at the pylons seems to be a bit too overpowered. When you're connected you're basically indestructible :D

All in all one of the best LD entries I've played so far :D

INKrease by bsymon 2017-08-03T14:04:31Z

The concept and idea and most of the (currently available) execution were great! Also I love those penguin sprites, they're incredibly cute!

Unfortunately the game would've needed most of the ideas you have for the post-jam version to be truly fun in multiplayer.

Energy Thief by Fireshake 2017-08-03T14:02:06Z

As I said on my stream: I'm a fan of the concept of playing a game on a virtual handheld. The idea of seeing the borders of the Not-Game-Boy while playing was a nice little detail and I'm a big fan of the main character design. The only gripes I really had were the slow movement speed for the player, enemies rarely going through walls and enemies being able to spawn practically right on top of you when you start the game.

Still, very cool concept and pretty solid execution! :)

Coffee Hero: Powered by Coffee by Guilb 2017-08-03T13:43:42Z

Even though I was really incredibly confused at first I learned the rules to the game pretty quickly and had quite a lot of fun with in (I'm still not too sure if I really understand the win condition though, haha! :D). The art style was amazing! I'm a big fan of voxel artwork and your entry perfectly hit that spot.

...also I'm a REALLY big fan of coffee, so that helped to, I guess! :D

One In the Chamber, One In the Socket by notApollogising 2017-08-03T13:47:21Z

Really cool and polished mechanics! Reminded me a lot of Hotline Miami (which is a good thing!) :D I also like game where your primary resource of progressing is also the thing that pretty much kills you. It's a really nice dynamic. I'd have *loved* to see some more variety in the different stages (like some kind of puzzle or something like that), but you did an amazing job nonetheless! :)

Turn Down For Watt by Funnyguy77 2017-08-03T13:26:39Z

Yo, Wright! Your OCD-Simulator is fantastic! :D I'm pretty sure I've never been so stressed in my entire life trying to keep all the things turned off (the best moment were a few seconds were everything was actually come back off just to turn back on a few seconds later). I would've loved to see a few more physics objects like the fridge. All those apples just shoot out of that thing made me instantly laugh! Good job, dude! :D

Lost Light by DrewG8 2017-08-03T13:32:11Z

You did a great job on the art of the game (even though the music wasn't completely my thing). I loved how you get little bits and pieces of the lore in the different rooms. I gotta say though that it felt a little too slwo for me how the puzzles were introduced to the player. I was just wandering a lot until I found the first real puzzle. Also very unfortunate: after activating two of the orbs I stumbled into the final door room and softlocked, so I couldn't go back and complete the rest of the game. Also, also the standard window size is soo tiny. I really had a hard time seeing what's going on at first xD All in all a really solid entry though. Good job! :)

Light Switch Crusader by TedScottPilgrim 2017-08-03T13:59:24Z

I loved the idea of playing a grumpy old fart breaking and entering into other peoples houses. I reallyl liked the concept and the mechanics, even though the stealth mechanics felt a little bit too wonky. Also the voice overs and the animation for the cats cracked me up! Good job!

Hyper Battery Girl by Deke 2017-08-01T12:21:14Z

@pixelgriffin : Thanks so much, dude! :D Dunno if I will ever work on a steam release, but maybe I'll work a bit more on the project after the Jam has ended. :)

@raogs : Thanks! :D

@sgstair : First of all, thanks for the great feedback! It's really appreciated! :) A reset button sounds like a great idea, I might just add that after I worked out a few of the bugs. And yeah, the attacking bug and the wallslide bug are still very annoying. Don't know what causes those bugs to happen yet, but I'm working on it :D Also the idea of a better puzzle for the attack sounds great. It's pretty much my own biggest gripe with the game right now. Unfortunately when the deadline came close I didn't really have that much time any more to put more polish into the level design (if I had more time, there would also be more comprehensive tutorials for the rest of the special moves). Maybe I'll do a bigger post-LD patch where I add some more levels so I can have a nicer diggiculty curve at the end. Glad you liked it! I'll have a look at your VoD when I get home :)

THE LIGHT TRAPPER by TRIGONOMETRIC GAMES 2017-08-03T13:34:50Z

No need to be so hard on yourself dude. You had a very interesting idea here and even though the mechanics were flawed that doesn't mean this game couldn't become something really nice with enough time. You did a good :)

Guinea Post - Rodent Delivery by Deke 2017-12-09T21:32:38Z

Okay, this'll be a long one. Sorry for the late reply, everyone! I read all the comments though. Thank you so much! :D

@raogs @niphram: the money minigame is actually a bit slower on purpose. I tried to throw the players' rhythm off with every new minigame introduced :'D. But yeah, with a bit more time I could've worked on showing the next button press a bit better. Thanks!

@nehvis: They do indeed feel a bit long, at least in the beginning. It's an unfortunate side-effect of not having any more time to properly balance stuff, sorry! :D

@josehzz: Making the bell "feel good" was one of my top priorities! :D Thanks!

@soerensen3: You first put them in the right "slot", then stamp them five times and then sort them :)

@weizengaming: I wasn't actually too sure if I should include a timer for the present minigame. I decided against it to throw the players rhythm a bit off :)

@blay09 @badly-drawn-rod: See my answer to @nehvis. Thanks for your kind words! :D

@carraka: Thank you so much for your comment! I'm happy you liked the game :)

@falak @xephrys: Thanks so much! :D

@yishalee: Thank you! The score indicator on the top right is completely done in text. There's actually just one sprite-based font which is used in the letter bomb minigame.
