Nice concept, title screen face is hilarious. I like the voiceover.
Only problem is that after I collected the key once, it didn't respawn, even when I died.
Overall, neat game, well done!

The key re-spawns, it just spawns at a different place!
This game gave me a good laugh, it was a little bit rough in a few places, but it played well and I really enjoyed it.
Probably the easiest to overlook thing is the camera, it's constantly moving to attempt to give you a better look, and I feel like you did a really good job.
Liked the game but the camera was very restrictive constantly changing angles. It was a bit confusing without much description on how to not get caught but it was simple enough to figure out after a while. Funny voiceovers!
This is a really creative concept, and the audio fits in well at most places too. Good one. 👍
Hilarious, controls aren't very tight, might want to fix colliders.
Definetely one of the most hilarious games i've played so far, the graphics and art are top notch as well, great game
I loved it, I don't care that the controls are bit clumpsy. To be honest the only thing I didn't like was the "gta - Wasted" slowmo death. It just meade it seem like the game was laggin, or maybe it was just lagging when i lost? It gave me a good laugh! The voice matched the characters look perfectly. There were also some lights that passed through walls, sure it helped me finding them but maybe it was not intended :) Good work :)
Pretty good!
Pretty good!
Oh my god are the cats animated with human skeletons or something? They're so creepy! Awesome game, congrats :)
That face when you start the game haha Good job :)
I really like the concept. My only concern is that it's nearly impossible to see anything when the lights are turned off. Maybe add night-vision functionality, or at least a flashlight?
I like the games graphics! It's just wow for a game jam. Level design is good too !
Awesome humor in this game! I don't understand why I'm being detected though when I enter the house in stealth mode which was a bit frustrating to have to turn off lights, go back out, then go back in to maybe get to 1 other light. Top marks on humor though!
Actually quite a funny game! It's a great spin on the theme and the graphics and audio are really nice. Awesome job!
Snitch cats get stitches! ;p
Really funny! Loved the disgruntledness of the character!
Hahah, I love the voice and player model is hilarious! The "sneaking" animation looked really good to me and game felt polished. Nice job! And I enjoyed home screen music, was scary O.o.
I really like it! The idea is freaking amazing and the voiceover makes it really funny!
I thought the controls were a bit irresponsive, though. It was really, really hard to avoid those cats.
The graphics are pretty simple, but you get 5 stars on the main character alone!
Strange at first, but quite interesting graphics, gameplay and mood ! Like the audio too, congrats for the work :)
The story idea is great and the execution is generally pretty clean.
Things I particularly enjoyed: - The voice over is hilarious (this guy seems really serious about it) - The cat animation is hilarious (it's a bit rough on the edges, but I really like the cartoonish look) - The music is good
Things you could polish: - The character slides a little bit, might be useful to rethink the character walk. You could for example start with perfectly responsive controls, then change the animation speed depending on the actual character speed to make it fit perfectly. - Since one of your game mechanics is about looking for hidden objects, I would expect to have more options to do so as a player. I think what could help would be either to have some kind of manual control over the camera, or see objects through transparent walls (maybe just around the player). - The lighting seems very important in your theme, so you should give it a lot of attention. It's already pretty nice, but playing with some contrast between fully lit areas and dark areas would probably add a lot to the feel. Maybe the initial lights could affect larger areas, so when you turn them off large spaces of the world become dark.
Anyway, congrats for your entry!
This was pretty hilarious! Reminded me of my dad and our black cat.
The lighting was an interesting mechanic and cool that turning off the lights had the side effect of making the game more challenging as the cats are roaming around. There was some light bleeding through the walls though, which is probably a minor detail. Very nice sound FX and the modelling was workable, well done!
That's a funny idea of being 'hero' who creeps inside other people's houses and turn off their light. Gameplay is pretty neat, you really have to watch out for those cats. Graphics are pleasant and animations are well done. Our protagonist also has neat one liners, it's just hard to not to be on his side. In overall pretty neat game.
Really dug the concept and I got a kick out of playing as a creeper whose justification is saving energy. The audio effects you chose were pretty great as well! I thought the level design was clever for the small space you had available and it naturally directed the player to different parts of the map.
I did notice that sneaking didn't have much of an affect on the roaming cat? I suppose it might be a distance based check though, because I was able to walk past it at full speed. Also there is some serious performance hitch whenever there is an overlap event that triggers an end game sequence (calling the event every frame? Unloaded assets being synchronously loaded?).
Overall I dug the concept, but I would have liked it better if disarming the lights fed back into your ability to traverse the level as opposed to a light scavenger hunt.
Great work!
Nice overall idea, twisting the theme, great movement there. Making a 3D project for a jam is so brave, for timing and polishing so I'll won't comment the obvious things about polishing. I pretty liked the way you managed to put together this idea.
I had fun playing the game, as such as tense or stressful moments scaping from the cats. One ofmy best plays ended because a ghost cat (i swear i didn't saw a cat) in the play room near the bathroom. Maybe it was my fault, there was no light!
That is the best part, how the game gets difficult because of the objectives. Great game, good luck!
Haha, breaking and entering, just to save a little electricity, lovely! Nice twist on the theme. 3D work in just a few days is quite a feat. Neatly done! The game does need some polishing, and could do with a faster pace, but overall quite nice.
A neat idea! I liked the voice acting and light effects.
Gameplay wise, I found the cats annoyingly hard, and it can be frustrating to be left with 2-3 objectives and get snitched on by a cat at the last second. The fact that the cat immediately fills up the sneak bar doesn't help either. But other than that, great job!
Thanks for making me hate cats.
Seriously though, that was the most fun I've had while playing a LD entry. The voice-over is hilarious, the game is challenging and is well-designed. I'm looking forward to your entry next LD (you will be going to participate next time as well, right?).
A really funny game and he is so right actually haha. I have played it like 5 times, but i lost at 2 objectives left unfortunately. The cats were hard!
I do not understand why the cat is so mean with the main character. Going inside others house in the middle of the night to help them saving their electricity is an act of civicism! I really like how you interpret the theme of LD39. You have a powerful imagination. The choice of a top-down view is cool.
Ahah excellent concept, makes naturally smile like "I will save the humanity with my power !!... of revoming lamps !!" feels like a strange super hero, great job ! I'm looking forward for the next jam :D
Im super overwhelmed with all the positive comments and ratings on our game!!
I did the v/o, the sfx, the modeling, the textures, the rigging, the cat animation, the level design, and the menu music. This was my first game jam. we started with five team members. One quit the first day. Another quit the second day. Essentially this was all done by one programmer, one artist, and one composer. Yes it was ambitious. Every minute counted. Of course there happened to be an ocean between the team and I (my own fault for looking for a team in the wee hours of the early morning), so the time syncing was a challenge we had to overcome. The programmer and I managed about 6 hours of sleep every night during the jam, and sat at our desks for the waking hours.
The game is rough in places. We did not allot time for testing when we clearly should have. We were down to the last second making updates. we will make updates after the voting. I think I'm gonna leave the cat animations as is tho! lol.
Thanks everyone for the great feed back!!
@ctjet99 Which collider is bothering you in particular? I know of the light post, the toilet, and of course the doors push you thru the walls from time to time. the bushes are funky but cause no game issues. If you really push the edges of the map I think you can find spots where the fence acts funky too, but nothing that breaks the game or even causes issues other than graphical. I'll agree the controls could use an update. Glad you thought it was funny!
@svr-audio Thanks for the kind words!
@landberglife Right there with you on the slow mo death. that is gonna get taken out in the post jam build. it was one of those things. looks good for now, well deal with it later... no time later. you know how it goes. The lights going thru the walls, I'm not sure how to fix that. will have to play around. Whiteninja (the programmer) might have ideas on that. Honestly I just shrug cuz that aint sposed to happen. Good eye for detail tho!!
@lucien-catonnet Nice lol no your just experiencing my first time rigging and animating a quadruped. Its actually pretty difficult under time constraint, I was surprised it looked as good as it did haha. think I spent 30-45 min on it. We picked up on the fact that it added to the comic element... And we all know a cat that has special needs.
@farhan-qureshi the sneak meter is like this... when outside, nothing. when inside, moving makes it go up. sneaking makes it go up slower than walking. standing still makes it drop. When your in a bedroom the "!" effect is multiplied. the cats have nothing to do with the meter.
@mastersmith98 I like your ideas. there is no performance flaw in the end sequnce, its just a poorly done effect and should have been removed. I wanted a cartoon circle that collapses on the player. maybe we will get that in on the post jam build. Sneaking does not effect the cats, you can effectively walk away from the cats if your not high on the "!" meter. more of a hunt would have been nice, I agree. Timing is everything in a jam tho!
@pouleyketchoupp thank you for the straight forward feedback. much appreciated.
@mr-houdini that second cat changes its way path when you open the door! the trick is that cats wont get you if your real close to certain walls... they just don't go there. like the toilet. if you would have ran to the toilet and stopped you would have been fine. It took me a while to figure that out.
@wwwhizz thanks yeh it is a little slow if you sneak everywhere getting around outside can be pretty quick when your just walking. polish is def needed, thanks for not being harsh!
@jusw85 there is a learning curve with the cats, and even then there is a level of unpredictability. Some people prefer this type of challenge. an easy mode is def something for us to think about. that cats dont actually effect the sneak bar. what makes that jump up is being in a bedroom/bathroom and moving at the same time. there are people sleeping in the beds so if you are near them your more likely to wake them. I doesn't help that that's one cats patrol route.
I loved the idea of playing a grumpy old fart breaking and entering into other peoples houses. I reallyl liked the concept and the mechanics, even though the stealth mechanics felt a little bit too wonky. Also the voice overs and the animation for the cats cracked me up! Good job!
Brilliant- I felt pretty creepy once I realized that I had just broken into a little kids room just to shut off his TV. This game was one of my standout pieces of the jam that I've played so far, not taking itself seriously at all, fits right into the theme, tells the most absurd story I've heard in a while, has moments of tension (when those cats broke their paths I nearly crapped myself), and the music fits that disturbing, yet innocent feel the game hits. I would say that it didn't outstay its welcome, and I feel this game fits nicely into a five minute playtime. I think that if there was a bit more to it (whether that be an easier entry point that leads to multiple, escalating locations) or by raising the stakes of the story to make it even more hilarious, you could really turn this into a longer product after the jam.
@peter-sheehan Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it that much! We are def pushing the idea around of making a product out of this. Thanks for the ideas and feedback!
Brilliant take on the theme. Love the grumpy mutterings!
Fantastic stealth game! I really enjoyed it. It was quite tricky, but I managed to win in the end. The idea of the game is very funny and the voice overs are good too.
I felt the key finding aspect wasn't needed as it was not challenging, and just took away from the fun stealth parts. If there was someone to avoid outside, then this bit would have been fun. The lights sometimes clipped through the walls, so I was unsure whether I had turned off a light or if it was a light in another room shining through the wall. Also, in the "You won" screen, the mouse was still hidden so I couldn't click the play again button.
Overall this was a fun stealth game!
Great entry! A bit difficult to avoid the cat, but funny overall. Nice job.
I really enjoyed the voice acting! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qvdJmOzeNg
Very fun and also creepy theme. The voice acting is very sweet. Great idea
This was probably the most hilarious game I have played so far on this website! The graphics were great and the background music and voice overs were absolutely the best. I even laughed and enjoyed it when I got caught! The choice of protagonist was very creative and the one liners for every light turned off was great. You should be very proud of being able to pull off a great game like this for Ludum Dare. Overall, this was a very nice game. Great job!
This one is well put-together mechanically, though I found the game design a little frustrating.
1. Having to search the entire level for a rather pointless key to progress, especially without explaining on the first playthrough (or on this page) that a key is necessary. As a player I assumed only the lit house was relevant, not that I'd have to go into a pitch-dark corner to find a key.
2. A cat that responds to intruders? Obtuse and unintuitive as opposed to a dog. The only way the player can logically figure out that they have to look out for the cat is by losing.
3. The camera was at a frustrating angle, and much of the level was too dark, making it annoying to move around.
It has promise, there's nothing wrong with the basic concept, so if the execution improves then I'll certainly like the game better.
not bed men!
Metal Gear Ecologist ! what an crazy concept for this theme, really well thought
**Positive stuff :**
- The graphics while simple were well modeled and everything felt cohesive together - The WASD + E + Spacebar controls made for some smooth and tight gameplay - The voiceacting was hillarious - The mere absurd situation to creep around just to turn off some lights and tvs was hillarious (so double points for humour ^^) - DAT FACE ON THE TITLE SCREEN O_o
**Negative stuff :**
- Not that many opportunities to flee and hide once a cat sees you which makes the infiltration a bit hard - Maybe not necessery to have the key spawn at a random place rather than a fixed one - DAT FACE ON THE TITLE SCREEN O_o
Overall it’s quite an awesome little game despite its flaws, i had serious fun with this :) And again DAT FACE ON THE TITLE SCREEN O_o (ok ok enough with that joke :p)
Congrats to the team !
First 5 stars I've given for humor this jam, the premise is hilarious, and the 3d model is perfect for the occassion. Nothing that hasn't really been said yet, the cats were quite challenging to get around so at least a checkpoint would've helped things. But once you got going into the house itself it was very fun, especially because I didn't expect to see a stealth game for this theme. I'd love to know where you drew inspiration for this idea haha
@peachtreeoath Thanks for the kind words and feedback! the idea actually sprung from a rapid spit-ball brainstorm sesh right after the theme was announced. Whiteninja came up with the amazing, but probably too violent, idea of "shooting out street lights" Which we all immediately thought was wonderful and hilarious, but too extreme. We forged that into a lovable drifter who breaks in just to turn off lights. Still had the creep vibe and the friendly anarchist vibe, but it was far more playful and far less violent than shooting out lights. Sometimes its a good idea to start with something far too extreme and then tone it down smartly. I always thought the idea of an estranged eco-warrior main character would go over well in today's audiences.
Hi, thank you again for your immense comment on hamster habits - never seen such a long one :D (i replied there)
I like your game! The voice acting is pretty cool, it gives the guy so much character, kind of a good-spirited grump. The graphics are quite good, as well as the light effects. I could quickly figure out what to do, how to get in and why i died (although it was surprising at first). I'm not sure when i'm being caught exactly - i though the cats have to catch me, so i tried running out which did not work. I guess the owner woke up - maybe this could be a little clearer by having the cat make loud noises.
So i really like it! The setting feels quite fresh, i think this is something you can expand into a very good game.
@rongo-matane Thanks for your kind comment. The noise meter actually wakes up the owners. In fact the cat itself doesn't make you lose but rather her Meows will max out your meter and hence owners wake up. I agree that its confusing and we should definitely improve it if we carry out development. Thanks for your input and playing the game!
Very nice game! I enjoyed playing it, even though there is only one level, it's still very fun!
The music was nice, the graphics were good, the sound detection needs some improvements and balancing, but overall it's a well made game! Well done!
jajajajaja i really like the humor in this game! nice graphics and fun gameplay!, nice job!
Best: - Voices/Sound Effects - Player 3D Model - Lighting - I said voices and sound effects?
To Improve: - Control / Player movement - Hit boxes when "Sneak" animation is playing make your head get through walls
Really great game, although there is a lot of room for improvement I still had a lot of fun playing this and wouldn't give up until I won! Gameplay wise, I think a GUI pop up for whenever you are in range of a light and are able to switch it off. Even if there's just a highlighted border around the light model. Secondly, I initially had no idea that anyone was in the beds. I first got caught in the parents room because I didn't notice the two heads in the bed, and even after that I got caught again in the childs room for the same reason. I did really like the camera movement though, I thought that was really well done, and the sound effects were pretty decent! Nice job!
This was quite hilarious. Probably because we were constantly told as kids to turn the lights off when you leave a room ... and now I do it as a father myself. The audio was great too. Excellent work.
I liked the graphics and the voice acting :)
The story was kinda humorous :) The E key does not respond properly every time, I had to press it multiple times to switch the light off.
I would really appreciate the goal and controls described in the game.
Thanks for sharing :)

As a parent, I often find myself humming "There is a light that never goes out" so this game spoke to me. However, the protagonist was far too polite about how everyone kept wasting electricity. It was fun, but it was also a game that I play in real life far too often! "Why is the bathroom light on?" "Are you planning on coming back to this room this century?" "$!$£$%! lights! Do you think I'm _made_ of money?"
Firstly thank-you for playing my game and I can only spout positives about this game, its really fun with funny voice lines, The concept is solid and well polished as well. I enjoyed the art for this game aswell , very different and also the camera angle was a nice change from all the other games , so it is a unique game in my eyes! Really solid job
You did a fun turn of the theme with this game! I appreciated the humor of the main character and the voiceovers. The music felt like it did not fit the universe though, I think I would have liked an arcade theme better than this calm score. I also had a weird bug, at the little garden where the key is, I somehow managed to enter by brushing the barrier and ended up on the other side of the fence. At my first play I did not understand why I died but was intruiged enough to start again and had a lot of fun on my second run, sneaking into the house and turning off all the lights. Fun game good job!
Really nice! This has to be the most original take on the theme that I've come across so far (and a positive ecological message to boot!). Great graphics and audio (especially the voice acting) and impressive gameplay for 72 hours.
Cool entry! Congratulations!
Fascinating and exceptional quality game for an LD. Definitely in the top 5 I played (sorry, not quite top 1 or 2...but up there between 3/4 i can't quite decide xD GG XD)
Anyways, the movement, camera work, graphics / visuals, audio and background music are all a perfect match. Everything was smooth and fun, well made and balanced. Really enjoyed playing the game.
Have nothing to suggest on improving, i think this is an exceptionally well made game.
This wasn't as bad as I initially thought it would be. It's a funny concept and an entertaining game. There are very few things I can complain about. Finding the key in the beginning is a bit tedious and the win screen is underwhelming and unrewarding. Also I wish you'd have made it even more messed up and weird.
This game is a good concept that I would like to be expanded upon. My only problem I found was that I would get random lag spikes at times. Good job though.
