LD38 — A Small World

Catsorbed by IgorsGames 2017-05-10T04:18:10Z

Very great game! The amount of content is very impressive with the small amount of time allowed. The music was very good and the graphics were great. It really helped establish the mood and made the game a lot more immersive. The story line was fun to play and the levels were interesting and challenging (in a good way). If I got something wrong the first time, I was more driven to find out why instead of discouraged and I thought the puzzles put in place were well thought out. Despite the great ending, seeing a longer version of this game would be really cool. The story in place is great and definitely has the potential to grow. Overall, great job! :)

Grall Axy by LooksLikeSomething 2017-05-03T21:39:12Z

Very cool game! I thought it was fun and easy to play, the use of a tutorial to explain the controls was great. The teleportation and lava spouts were a little confusing at first since I didn't really notice them until I was right on top of them (Quite literally. I know what they did after that) but I also thought that it was interesting since it allowed for me to learn a little more about the game play as I went along. I also liked the concept of slowing down and speeding up time. Overall, it was a very good game and I am curious to see what improvements you might make for it in the future :)

Earth, 3568 by BoltKey 2017-05-06T23:35:45Z

Overall, it was a very well designed game. There were a few things like the varying ship launch speed and low gravitational influence of the planets that threw me off but other than that, it is well polished and a nice game.

Microspace by novodantis 2017-05-07T20:52:40Z

This is a very well done game! The visuals and soundtrack were very good and the overall feel of your game was great. Using the direction of the red blood cells to direct the player was very cool as well as the necessity to avoid white blood cells. Some things that could be improved on are things like the camera occasionally moving outside veins and the keyboard controls. I found it very difficult to gain good control of the probe with the mouse used to determine the pitch of the craft. It didn't feel as natural as maybe using other keyboard buttons like the space bar and shift for up and down or Q and E (both are used in other games that deal with the same type of controls). Other than that, it was very well done. Great job!

Hi Pluto! by nekoballs 2017-05-17T09:17:04Z

Very cool game! It was a little hard at first (especially with my small track pad) but I was able to soon get the hang of it and I could get a fairly high altitude. The graphics were very good and the sound effects made the game more interesting. Your game reminded me of the game doodle jump, which is a game where you jump platforms in the same way and they disappear after they leave the bottom of the screen (Your asteroids did as well, which meant that despite my efforts to move to the last location I could remember of an asteroid I passed, it wasn't there anymore). One improvement you could make to your game would be to make the asteroids spawn closer together at the beginning so that it is easier to get started when playing your game. Another problem I found was that even though I moved the mouse across an asteroid, if I was too fast it wouldn't register my collision with the asteroid (My assumption as to why this happens is that you decided to place the earth wherever the mouse was on the screen, which is great, but the mouse doesn't move smoothly across the screen. It jumps far across the screen when you drag it really fast, which means that the same thing happens to the earth in your game and it never actually collides with the asteroid, but instead just jumps to the other side of it. A good way to fix this might be moving the earth at a very high velocity towards the mouse position on the screen so that it actually meets the asteroid at some point in time and Unity can register the collision. It worked for me as long as it wasn't anything above 1000 units per second in a game I made in Unity). Overall, this is a very well done entry and I am curious to see what might be added in the future! :)

MORE by beta 2017-05-05T00:05:22Z

This is a very nice game! It had good humor and was fun and easy to play. The controls were nice and responsive, and the graphics are good as well. The only problem I found with it was that one of the planets was too fast and it had a large orbit, which made it hard to catch up to in a reasonable amount of time. Following the orbit to get the last planet took a little bit longer but other than that it was very good. Great job!

Micro Mayor by pizzapranks 2017-05-06T19:45:14Z

Nice game. I did find that it was fairly easy to win just by building a house or two, placing a store, and then putting it on max speed but, for only 72 hours it is pretty well done. It seemed to work the way it was intended all except the one sell button in the middle of the screen. With a little polishing and work, it could be very fun and entertaining (a lot like those Sim City games). Good job.

Super Collapse Guy by crazi456 2017-05-05T04:24:56Z

This is an amazing take on the challenge! For only having 72 hours this is very innovative and something new. Great job :)

50ft by 50ft (or How I Died In Space) by RockhopperGames 2017-05-04T19:43:28Z

This is very well done considering it was all created within 48 hours of time. Its an interesting submission in comparison to others since well... its an intriguing story instead of your competition typical game. I like how you can choose which parts you work your way through, but still get to read all the different parts to the story. It was pretty depressing at the end, but overall it was well written and captivating. My only suggestion would be to organize some of the links a little bit better. I found that I would have trouble finding some of the links to other parts of the story, even when I tried using the back button provided. If I was half way through reading a section and then a bunch of links would take me to a different one, I had some trouble getting back to the original section I didn't finish reading (Maybe I missed something that would help, I am not entirely sure). Other than that, great job! I am curious to see what this would look like if it had visuals or was turned into some sort of role play game.

Asteroid Survival by obidubi 2017-05-03T21:24:07Z

Thank you very much for your feedback. I did realize soon after posting it that I didn't label anything clearly so I created those gyazo .gif images as a tutorial showing what all of the different buttons do (Links up in the post). I had planned to add in a few more features in the game but I ran out of time, which is why there are many extra features that don't end up doing anything (Like the third button. It was going to replenish durability, but I ran out of time to implement it). Again, thank you for your great feedback and I plan to use those suggestions for the future.

Mini Planets by Willbl3pic 2017-05-04T20:17:18Z

It was an interesting game overall and it fit the theme well. A few things I will point out that the controls were a little unresponsive or slow. They could be sped up and the camera could be moved back a little fore a better view of the surrounding objects. Other than that, good entry :)

World Keep-Away by dracominer 2017-05-05T00:25:04Z

This was great! It was hilarious with the opening scene and I definitely laughed when the music came in (In the best way possible. Great piano playing! :P). The jumping was a little off since the player would immediately jump up and then slowly fall back down at a constant rate instead of accelerating, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Overall, great job and keep at it. :)

Legend of Helda: Breath of the Mild by Bryan Livingston 2017-05-05T00:42:14Z

Great game! I thought it was very well done for a Ludum Dare compo game and it was fun to roam the terrain in search of the different tower things I had to find and enter. The sound effects were very good and I thought the overall feel of the game was well accomplished (all you need are those enemy animations :P). Great job! I am curious to see what this could turn into in the future.

Starbob by Gato 2017-05-05T02:04:14Z

Great game! I was able to build pretty high, or... so I thought until I realized I could zoom out and then I saw that I didn't get very far at all. I like how you added the ability to zoom out (I wish I realized that sooner) and the physics engine worked very well. I did find that I could push myself higher by building blocks inside of me and then I would get pushed upwards. It also seemed to be a little slow on my computer (But, that could just be my computer and not your game, so I am not sure). Other than that, it was well executed. Great job! :)

Small Planet by ZebraInFlames 2017-05-04T20:07:57Z

Good job! It was a simple, yet effective game. I really liked how you added in the fact that he fighter jets couldn't escape the atmosphere, I thought it was a very nice touch. I also liked the fact that you could drop in a few extra NPCs on teams to make the game a little more interesting. The ability to change the number of respawns was also nice as well. The AI was very good for a game made in 48 hours and worked well for your purposes. It did have a little bit of trouble escaping the planet when it crashed into it (maybe you could make AI levels as well with some that are a little bit smarter and know how to escape the planet surface better or avoid higher altitudes) but other than that, it was great. :)

Naziverse by furazin 2017-05-07T04:19:50Z

This is a very well done and polished game. It seemed a little short, but that is understandable since this is a 3 day competition (making a game is very hard for those who don't know. Especially when it is your first time). The graphics are very well done and the music was very good. The game did seem a little difficult until I got the duck and shoot method figured out, which I assume was done intentionally to make the game more challenging (it worked). The humor was very funny and I think your death messages are great. Overall, great job! :)

Going Home by Kyona Luya 2017-05-08T03:39:50Z

Great game! It was very atmospheric and created good mood as I played. The map was interesting and had some good climbing challenges. The double helix ladder mechanic was very cool and solid. Everything worked and worked well as far as I can tell. I had a lot of fun playing your game!

Some things that could be improved on could be the map composition. The continuous purple tile map worked okay, but having different textures for tiles throughout the map would be even better. Having varied textures could make your game much more immersive since the player wouldn't looking at the same monotonous background all the time. You already had a good start with the sparsely placed blue tile structures found throughout your game, and more of this would be great! (My compo game could have used more of this as well. I am creating a post jam version that generates different tile backgrounds and it really makes a difference).

Aside from that, you really have a good start here. Your game overall works very well with very few if any bugs. Your double helix ladder mechanic is very cool and allowing the player to extend the possible length of it by getting power ups was a very good idea. I like it so far and I am curious to see what you might do with it in the futere. Great job! :)

Limited Space by Vidinu 2017-05-04T00:33:07Z

Very good game! This is a very well done game with a good concept, great visuals, music, and is well executed. The hybrid concept is very cohesive with the fact that it is balanced between flying through space helps gain time, but you still have to lose some while gaining resources on planet fragments. Very nice job!

Pros: Your game, like I said before, is very well executed and polished. It has very good graphics and UI as well as good background music that sets the mood. The game play is not terribly difficult to figure out, but still presents a challenge that is fun and interesting.

Cons: You could add slightly more text or possibly a tutorial to help people figure out the controls just a little better. What you have so far is great, and having a tutorial or more text describing the controls would make it even better. Also, having to click on the tile the astronaut is on to move him is a little tedious as well. Maybe having the selection buttons for them always at the bottom to make it easier to move them would make the game run a little more smoothly. Other than that, I think it is very well done.

Overall, this is a very well done game and I think it is a great game for only 72 hours of development time (It seems like a lot until it isn't). Amazing job! :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Levels by alexander0153 2017-08-04T16:37:16Z

This is a very nice game! The graphics were very nice and the parallax effect in the background for the stars was a nice touch. The sound effects and background music was also very good and definitely added to the experience. I did find the controls a bit tricky at first, but I soon got the hang of it. One idea would be to be able to click and shoot (I kept clicking the left mouse button instead of the space bar to shoot half the time). Another thing you might want to add to your game would be a point system so that the player has a sense of how long and well they survived in your game. Overall, great work and I am curious to see what you do next with it!

Orbital Rescue by sanojian 2017-08-02T17:24:57Z

This is a very good game! I really liked the grappling mechanic and it was also very challenging. I had some difficulty on a few levels until I got the hang of it. The graphics and music were great and really set the mood. I did find that on one of the levels I had trouble shooting out the grappling hook, which would shoot out a little bit and then retract again before it extended all the way, but it only happened on the one level (Sorry I couldn't tell you which one). Overall, this is a very good entry, great job!

Station 5723: Reactor Down by Archimagus 2017-08-04T06:25:03Z

Nice game! The scenario was interesting and the little puzzle and stuff to collect was well done. The graphics were nice and I found the audio fitting for your game. My suggestions would be to add more to your game like stuff breaking over time or more puzzles to solve to make it more interesting and last a little bit longer. Overall, nice job!

Solar Snoop's Star Trek by tweedle 2017-08-02T04:35:46Z

This game was a lot of fun and had a very cool story intro to it as well! I liked how the controls were conveniently displayed at the beginning of the game so I didn't have to figure them out as I went along (Although, I didn't realize I could actually shoot for some reason until after playing and skimming the comments as I scrolled to the bottom to write my own). The graphics and music are great, as well as the audio for the intro as well. Overall this is a great game well done.

Lightbulb by somethinboutgames 2017-08-05T06:14:31Z

Very nice game! The graphics are nice and the subtle sound effects were a nice touch. The mechanics of the game like the rubber band effect on the light bulb were solid and the game play was simple, but still kind of fun to play with like pulling the light bulb all the way back and watching it fly around in circles. More stuff to do like more buttons to press, achievements to unlock, or even hidden eater eggs would be nice but overall nice job with your little game.

Buddies Bad Day by elit3dgaming 2017-08-01T18:48:55Z

This is a very good game. It is well done and seems pretty polished. The sound and graphics were spot on with the retro style and worked well. I liked the puzzles you have in your game so far and I think that it would be great if you added more of them. They were fairly easy, but still quite fun and I am curious to see what you do with it. Overall, good job!

Running out of Power by milano23 2017-08-02T05:46:16Z

This was a really cool idea for a game. The graphics were very good and the mechanics worked well. I liked the jigsaw slide puzzle idea and it seemed to work well with minimal bugs. One thing I will point out is that some of the puzzles I was given were already solved right from the start, so it might be a good idea to have the game check the puzzle to make sure it is solvable and not already solved before showing it to the player. Overall, good job!

Powering Down by jwin 2017-08-04T03:21:27Z

This is a very impressive game! Great job on the graphics and sound as well as the mechanics of the game like the attacking AI and the area triggers for the doors and turrets. The game was very entertaining and I had a lot of fun trying out different combinations to either brute force my way past enemies or just make a run for it and hope for the best. I found the game to be solid and well polished with my only exception being that it was dark, which made it difficult to see the surrounding terrain, but it wasn't too bad. Overall, I think this is a great concept and I would really like to see where it goes!

All Systems Online by stormforce02 2017-08-02T06:54:14Z

This is a really cool game! It has a lot of potential as a game and was very fun to play once I got the hang of it. The power management through different blocks on a ship was great and the game play was cohesive and well done. I liked the idea of being able to collect the scrap from other ships to add more stuff to your own (The chance of getting scrap should be a little bit higher in my opinion). This game reminds me of what a very early, 2D version of this game I like called Starmade would look like (Here is a link for reference: http://www.star-made.org/ ). Adding some music and and sound effects would definitely improve this game and make it more interesting, as well as maybe adding some lighting effects to really make it immersive. Overall, really good job with this one and I am interested to see what you add to it next!

Turn the Lights Off! by obidubi 2017-08-03T06:17:05Z

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback! I am glad to see that my game is enjoyable despite it's simplicity. I have fixed the issue with the R key not deactivating the lights, so it should work if you run right up against the wall now. It did cross my mind that players might decide to go right up against a wall to interact with the light switch, but I didn't think it would be very plausible until reading all of the great feedback about it (Sorry about that). I would also like to mention that as long as you are less than one tile away from a light switch, you can turn it off.

I am also working on a post jam version of the game, where I will try my best to incorporate as many of the great suggestions you guys have given me as possible (If all goes well, reprimanding crew members for their actions will soon become a possibility). All in all, thank you for the amazing feedback on my game!

Power Grid Manager by cudabear 2017-08-04T02:35:04Z

This was a really cool idea for a game! The graphics and music were very good and fit well with the theme and the overall theme of the game. The broken keys were cool and added an extra challenge, but it soon became very difficult to maintain everything with the keys changing on the houses and the keyboard keys popping out all the time. I soon figured out that I could button mash with my left arm and spam click everything with my mouse to last just a little bit longer. Overall this was a very great game good job!

solar avenue by wareification 2017-08-02T02:30:51Z

Good job. Your game is good so far and you should be proud of yourself for making it within the 48 hour time frame. I liked the graphics and the controls were pretty good as well (Although, adding WASD keys would be nice). One thing that could be improved is the collision detection with the boundaries since if you collide with them at any angle, you are brought to a complete stop. What you might want to consider is making it possible to slide along the boundary so that if you accidentally clip it when going around a corner, you don't have to turn around to start moving again. Overall, this a great game so far and I am curious to see what you do with it in the future!

Advanced Infiltration Management System by crass_sandwich 2017-08-04T17:16:18Z

Great game! I found it a bit difficult at first to get around and shoot properly since in some cases I couldn't tell if there was a boundary in the way, but I was soon able to figure out how to get around faster and double jump, which was a very helpful feature to have. The graphics were very good and the audio was fitting as well. I liked the overall idea and with a little polishing it would be even better, but this is still amazing work for the compo. Overall, great job!

BATTERY BLASTER by NoytroO 2017-08-01T22:21:28Z

Great job! This was a well done game with good graphics and probably one of my favorite audio intros ("There is a very bad guy in this base..."). It was a bit too dark in the rooms to see very well, but I was still able to make my way to the crystals and destroy them. One thing that I would recommend mentioning is how you have to destroy all the enemies in one area to go to another one (I think... I tried shooting the doors and it didn't do anything). I didn't know this my first time around and I got trapped in the red lit room looking for the way I came in. I liked your heavy metal background music and had a lot of fun playing your game. Nice job!

Car jump by Samuli Salonen 2017-08-01T19:14:35Z

This is a very funny and interesting game! I could never seem to get the car to go off the ramp correctly (It always veered to the left when I tried going forwards) but it was still fun to watch it fly and bounce off the boxes. It could definitely use some polishing, but it is great so far.

Möbius Trap by RedNW 2017-08-04T06:06:22Z

This is a very good game! For your first game, you should be very proud that you were able to create such a good game by the deadline. The graphics were really good and the laser sound effect definitely added to the experience. Your little backstory at the beginning also gave your game some substance and made it more interesting. Overall, I had fun playing your game. Great job and well done!

Light Switch Crusader by TedScottPilgrim 2017-08-05T01:15:21Z

This was probably the most hilarious game I have played so far on this website! The graphics were great and the background music and voice overs were absolutely the best. I even laughed and enjoyed it when I got caught! The choice of protagonist was very creative and the one liners for every light turned off was great. You should be very proud of being able to pull off a great game like this for Ludum Dare. Overall, this was a very nice game. Great job!

SpaceY by luckyy 2017-08-01T03:45:32Z

Very good job! The graphics and audio were great. The game play was fairly simple but still fun and gave a good incentive to keep searching for more resources. I really liked the background and GUI as well. One thing I did notice was that I was unable to pick up some of the enhancements even though I spam clicked E. I don't know if this was because I already picked it up before (I did notice that a lot of them would keep appearing as I explored) or if it may be a possible bug in your code. Overall, this is a very good game.

Wayside : A world awaits you by TheCodeFactory 2017-08-04T01:27:05Z

The is a very good game! The graphics were simple, but very nice and ergonomic. The audio was music was also very well done and I liked the variety of tracks. The amount of content was great and this could definitely become another great mobile game like geometry dash. One recommendation I would have is that if you use up all your power but make it to the end, you should be allowed to progress to the next level instead of restarting all over again. Overall, great job and I am interested in what you will add next!

Spaceship Rescue by cybersoftuk 2017-08-02T04:51:19Z

This was a good game. The music was very good and fitting as well. I was able to quickly understand how to play (Aside from the tutorial at the beginning) and I achieved a pretty high score on my first run compared to my following ones. One thing I think I noticed is that on the first run it got progressively harder, but after my first run the walls remained very close together as soon as I started instead of gradually getting closer, which made it more difficult to achieve a higher score than my previous ones. Other than that, it was well done and fun to sit back and enjoy a good game. Great job!

A SWELL BULLET-HELL by algu 2017-08-02T05:27:53Z

For your first game ever, you should be very proud! This game has great graphics and is well designed and polished. I enjoyed being able to sit back, hold down the left and right mouse buttons, and just watch the bullets fly. The bullet graphics and were great and I liked how they bounced off the walls. One thing I would recommend would be having the ability to strafe, but that is just a preference. All the little details were well done, and adding a little music would make it even better. Overall, great job!

Night Driver by nbitsstudio 2017-08-01T17:39:33Z

This is a really great game! I had a great time driving (and crashing) my car around the track and the jumps were very cool. Even though you could still drive after running out of power, that didn't bother me too much because I was having too much fun driving around and crashing into other cars. One thing I would suggest improving would be the message that says you ran out of power, since it pops up in the middle of the screen and can be pretty distracting. Other than that, I really liked the graphics and the music too. It really set the mood well and made it look professional. Great job!

Giuseppe's Kidnapping by VEGACIDE 2017-08-04T02:14:08Z

This is a really cool game! The idea is original (yet dark) and the graphics and music are very well done. I thought the dimming screen was a cool and unique way to show the player how much energy and blood they had left. Although, it did make it difficult to determine exactly how far I could go before I needed another blood pack. Overall the level design and overall look and feel of the game was great. Good job!

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Instability by RevolutionGT 2017-12-09T19:03:37Z

This is a pretty cool game! It was funny when the large, seemingly indestructible ships kept coming up from behind and then chasing me around since they just kind of accumulated over the course of the level, and I soon had quite a few all bunched up while I was doing circles around them trying to get the other enemies. Overall, pretty cool game.Aah!.PNG

LD40 - SirPumpy by SirPumpy 2017-12-12T05:07:02Z

This is an amazing start you've got here! The graphics are absolutely great (in case you didn't get that from the countless other reviews stating the same thing) and the attention to detail is phenomenal! The little things like the reflection of the ships off the water and that LD40 neon light flickering and turning off when the sun rises really added to the immersion and mood of the game (and also made me completely freak out when I noticed it xP). The music was also very fitting and definitely added to the overall immersion of the game as well. As far as the controls, I thought they were just fine, but I did have to go back to this LD page to figure them out (A title screen could easily fix that though). Overall, this game is worth the high rating I gave it. I understand that there are probably a thousand other features you wanted to add, but this is nothing short of an astounding achievement for a 48 hour game (I totally understand the feeling of not adding enough. Just take one look at my past entries and you will see exactly what I mean). All in all, you should be proud of you great entry, and I am looking forward to see what you do with it next!
