LD39 — Running out of Power

Power Trip by notime4games 2017-08-02T20:23:53Z

Good game! I had a lot of fun playing it. There was an odd occasion where the power sources near the spawn were unreachable, causing me to inevitably lose having just started the game. Something should be implemented to avoid this from ever happening. However, this only happened once so I wouldn't worry about it to much. Although this did not affect my ability to play, I wished the game had sound or animation. I fell like it would make the game feel a little less rigid. Other than that, good job!

Running Out Of Tiles by BORB 2017-08-03T01:31:44Z

Your choice of keys for jumping, running, collecting and creating could have been more intuitive. Having the jump key so close to the run key was difficult to get used to. Similarly, your restart method, though funny, could have been more user-friendly. I really like your game mechanic. I would've liked to seen it used in more challenging way, given the scarcity of levels. Maybe implement moving enemies or obstacles. Anything that would make using the mechanic as face-paced as the Wallace and Gromit .gif that influenced you to make this game would work well. Good job and good luck on the post-jam version of this game!

Wind-Up Knight by joemag 2017-08-02T02:19:28Z

Very creative game mechanic. Having to tend to and keep eyes on the wind-up knobs turned what would've been a dull platformer into a very fun game. I enjoyed your game and it's mechanic so much that I didn't give up on playing until I defeated the Bat-King! Good job!

Visually and sonically impressive. You really took "most annoying sound in the world" to another level, lol. I agree with @doctoralpaca about the gameplay feeling unsatisfying due to the game's charging mechanics. In addition to this, I wish firing the robot's weapon felt more satisfying. If what you are shooting consumes a significant amount of power, it shouldn't appear so weak. I hope that made sense. Other than that, good job!

Dim Wit by benbennett 2017-08-02T01:52:57Z

I really enjoyed this game and I can see a more polished version of it becoming very popular on the app store. I liked how you considered the different type of inputs your players may prefer. The retro sounding music was also great, although it did stutter a bit at some points during my play. If you ever port this game to mobile devices, you should consider implementing a high-score system. I think that doing so would be a great incentive for players to play over and over again. Again, very solid game! Good job!

TRIAL OF THE 3 SUNS by Godot35 2017-08-03T02:27:51Z

I HAVE EMERGED VICTORIOUS! This may be my favorite Ludum Dare game yet! The challenging-but-fair-ness of the game kept me going all the way to the end. Your implicit way of teaching players new concepts was very smart and well thought out. It kind of reminded me of the way the first Mario game taught its players new concepts. The core game mechanic was great too. It made the combat as challenging as the platforming. Everything about this game was so well done that I was left feeling inspired to rethink the way that I go about making my games. So, thank you! You did and incredible job!

Clear the River! by SpeedySloth99 2017-08-01T04:32:46Z

This game is very impressive coming from someone who had just three weeks of programming experience. I wouldn't worry so much about, "the standard of Ludum Dare". As cheesy as it sounds, the most important thing is that you got something out of this. The game's oddities and flaws are acceptable given your experience. However, just as a nitpicky tip, if you're going to loop a snippet of music, make sure that the music loops seamlessly! Good luck on your future programming endeavors!

Good job on making a very fun game. I especially liked what you did with the game's audio!

Reminded me of the flash games I used to play as a child. I like it!

In addition to being an interesting game mechanic, the tethered inebriated astronaut was also hilariously charming. I loved how both the ship and the astronaut were capable of picking up health and power packs. I agree with @pixel-game-wizard that the controls were a bit confusing, but I eventually got used to them and now like them as they are. I believe they, like the tethered astronaut, add an extra layer of challenge and charm to the game. Great job!
