Great game, everything is really well made. Fits the theme well, and it's challenging.

crashtest 2017-08-01 15:29

Thank you @james-greenleaf hope you enjoyed the game.

I really like the mechanic of simultaneously moving the ship and the turret though I find it difficult to master!

traincraft 2017-08-01 22:43

Nice Game :D

johnny-turbo 2017-08-01 22:51

Funny little game forsure. It was a bit tough having control over the ship and turret with different inputs. This could work well as a twin stick shooter using a controller however. Game looked great and the flailing astronaut was really silly.

Congratulations on making a complete game!

johngun 2017-08-02 00:48

A nice and far more challenging take on asteroids. Did not see the friendly fire of the astronaut coming, but it makes perfect sense. Good job

bocodillo 2017-08-02 00:53

Really fun game with a pretty unique controls, would make a really good twin stick shooter if built upon. Loved the music & sound effects and the physics for the drunken astronaut felt great. I spent a good few minutes just swinging him in circles trying to bash into asteroids!

pixel-game-wizard 2017-08-02 01:08

Good job on this entry! I really like the pixelated graphics, and the idea of controlling ship position and turret rotation simultaneously.

I found the controls to be a bit hard to wrap my head around. I kept getting confused about which set of keys corresponded to what. Have you considered getting turret input from the mouse instead? Like the turret always points to the mouse cursor, and you shoot with left click? It might be easier to keep track of what's doing what if the inputs are different.

Also - is there a "win" condition? I wasn't sure if there is actually somewhere to bring the astronaut, or if it's a planned feature. I flew out far (or at least, what I felt was far), started seeing big alien ships and looooots of aliens. I might also just have not been very good at this game. :-D The poor astronaut may have been torn apart by the limbs once or twice... :'( :-P

Having said all that, I had fun playing this game. Overall great job!

aaranos 2017-08-02 02:59

Controls take a little getting used to. I think I got to experience most of the game before running out of power. I had fun dragging the little astronaut like a wrecking ball through space.

rudenko 2017-08-02 05:11

Nice game, had some fun dragging astronaut too :D

devastus 2017-08-02 17:32

It's definitely a fun game, and feels polished, like the wrecking ball astronaut bouncing around. I can't decide what to make of the controls though, they're kinda awkward but I guess that's part of the idea, having to maneuver with wonky controls.

A very solid entry all around, well done!

eggnog 2017-08-03 01:47

This was really fun! I love the tricky balance of rotating the ship as well as the blaster! I would definitely like to see some crazy explosion effects in the future, since the asteroids just vanishing into oblivion wasn't as satisfying as it could have been. Still, super fun! :D

In addition to being an interesting game mechanic, the tethered inebriated astronaut was also hilariously charming. I loved how both the ship and the astronaut were capable of picking up health and power packs. I agree with @pixel-game-wizard that the controls were a bit confusing, but I eventually got used to them and now like them as they are. I believe they, like the tethered astronaut, add an extra layer of challenge and charm to the game. Great job!

cronje 2017-08-03 03:35

Awesome, seems very polished! The graphics looked pretty amazing to me and 10 hundred thousand out of 10 hundred thousand for the buttons! Nice game. That death animation though O_o.

ezaudiolabs 2017-08-03 03:38

Astronaut bouncing outside the ship: love it. Really fun! Graphics are really good and I like that the audio changes during the gameplay, good job!

neon 2017-08-03 03:40

Really good music and graphics. The gameplay was a bit hard at first, but once I got the controls down it's pretty fun. Really good stuff!

felipe-osorio 2017-08-03 03:42

I really like the link mechanic, and the art is really well done! Great job!

balthatrix 2017-08-03 03:50

Hey thanks guys! great comments, and thanks for pushing us to the 20 mark :)

tyler-miller 2017-08-03 04:16

Nice and well polished! Really liked the visuals and sound. The controls were confusing but not that big of a deal, at the end of the day you can just fly around, rock the astronaut and still have fun & a couple laughs. Thanks for sharing yall's game!

dolash 2017-08-03 05:27

It's a strong, simple gameplay premise and pretty well-implemented. Fun style, plays smooth, shooting those damn totally-not-metroids is satisfying and the physics on the astronaut flopping around are funny.

Two issues stood out to me. Firstly, it wasn't clear where to even take the astronaut to get them home, while randomly bumbling around was a surefire recipe for running out of power - a little direction would've helped. Secondly, I thought the twin-stick control approach was just a little too fiddly and awkward. It made navigating the field a choice between punching it and just hoping the astronaut wouldn't take too many hits or creeping along clearing the way and almost certainly running out of power.

On the plus side, at least it's not SpaceUber! Did you hear their CEO was on the Star Emperor's economic advisory council?

balthatrix 2017-08-03 06:17

HAHA thanks for the feedback. Definitely want to avoid "SpaceUber" at this point. And those are definitely not "metroids". What is a metroid anyways? ;)

I think we need to update our description, as it's a little misleading. There's nowhere to actually take the astronaut. His demise is inevitable. You just survive, and try to shoot stuff, haha.

We are tinkering with ideas about having to pick up these astronauts and take them home, in a similar style to "crazy taxi" if you've ever played that game. The existing "time pressure" mechanic is already there. Perhaps after the jam we will update and try something like that out for a quick publish somewhere.

As for the awkwardness of the controls, we did sort of mean for them to be a bit uncomfortable; it's partially inspired by Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. Although now that so many people have commented about this, it's making me think we should code to allow for alternate control styles.

Really great game. The gameplay is very unique and fun. The mood is nice too. Congrats!

bombjack 2017-08-11 20:42

very original idea. quite difficult to control on keyboard. Could be amazing to play with twin stick gamepad. great entry!

mamoniem 2017-08-14 15:47

this is one of the MOST IMPRESSIVE GAMES in this jam round!

Very unique and fun gameplay! Graphics aren't that good, but they somehow fit soooo well. Very innovating and very suiting to the theme, good job!

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zttkWtUJU-8
