LD39 — Running out of Power

Eat pray live by wrexialmt 2017-08-01T23:07:44Z

Absolutely amazing art - I love the bouncy animations! Spades of humour in this entry, a great little game.

Emergency Evacuation by spacewarp 2017-08-20T20:24:43Z

Refreshing to play a turn-based entry. Took a while to get the mechanics but once it clicked it was a cool little puzzler. I really like minimalist graphical style.

Power Play by reuno 2017-08-01T20:40:02Z

Ha, this game has it's own theme song! Very polished, feels smooth and graphics are great.

Pokkie by tijmentio 2017-08-01T17:33:09Z

Very cool idea which is a great interpretation of the theme and I love the graphical style.

Solar-Powered Guns by eva 2017-08-01T16:43:06Z

The tethering mechanic is a cool idea and I like the graphical style - I'm a particular fan of the splat animation! I have to say though that the controls felt a bit ponderous for my taste.

Wodewick, the grumpy monster by winniehell 2017-08-01T21:41:35Z

This is super cute! I really like the knocking away mechanic, I could see that being developed further.

e Negative by jhandsy 2017-08-01T23:23:51Z

Awesome art style, really like the colour palette. The slowdown mechanic is a cool idea.

Lantern by Kaban 2017-08-01T17:10:32Z

This game has a great mood and very stylish graphics. Mechanically, the game is simple but satisfying. I could definitely see this being developed further.

air mail by rubna 2017-08-01T15:20:23Z

Great game which is exceedingly pretty. It looks so cute! I loved the chilled out vibe of it with the ambient audio.

Power Dronomics by BrazMogu 2017-08-20T20:07:01Z

This is a cool concept and I really like the minimalist graphics. As others have said maybe it would be improved by being quicker, but there's actually something quite tense about it being so slow as well.

Lost Soul by daviddiagonza 2017-08-01T22:41:32Z

Cool interpretation of the theme and I'm a big fan of the graphical style.

Power Down by Lightsmasher 2017-08-20T20:14:42Z

I like the ideas here and I can definitely see the potential for further development using the power down mechanic. As others have said, I found the jumping a little odd and couldn't quite get the hang of it.

Influencer Tycoon by pst723 2017-08-20T20:47:45Z

I'm a fan of the whole selfie/influencer theme, especially the satirical edge, which gives it a cool, unique spin on the more ubiquitous phone running out of battery idea. It would have been nice if there was some more sound in there.

The Visible City by Colestia 2017-08-01T17:22:51Z

Ridiculously stylish and a very cool interpretation of the theme.

SpaceLyft by atomicdad 2017-08-01T22:34:40Z

I really like the mechanic of simultaneously moving the ship and the turret though I find it difficult to master!

LD44 — Your life is currency

Pulsation by stevenjmiller 2019-05-06T22:19:02Z

Top marks for innovation - I've never played anything quite like that before! It's quite a difficult concept to get your head around but it slowly becomes clearer. I wonder whether there's some way to telegraph to the player what effect the pulse will have before they commit as I think this would aid in the learning process. Perhaps some sort of 'live' view of how the terrain will be manipulated when you mouse over it so you can see how different positioning of the pulse will alter the effect. This might make the game too easy if it was always available but I guess it could be limited to the early levels.

Cat Your Life on It by khofez 2019-04-30T13:37:38Z

I don't understand whether it's possible to 'win' the game, the skeleton just seems to keep firing until you're dead... Having said that the graphics are awesome and general presentation is very polished.

Fehu by graebor 2019-04-30T17:57:31Z

As others have said this is a big mood game. It looks incredible and I love your ambient soundtrack.

Death Alley by DuzzOnDrums 2019-04-30T17:40:14Z

Amusing and it looks great to boot. You can walk down to the pins and knock them over with your body though...

safecrack by torcado 2019-04-30T17:51:51Z

Such a great idea - I really like the concept of upgrading your enemies. The visuals are also super polished.

Drytown by DavidPIxel 2019-04-30T18:10:04Z

Mmmm, this is good. It looks incredible and the world is genuinely interesting.

The Harvest by machinescreen 2019-04-30T12:39:23Z

@torculus @holden Thanks for your comments! You both raise a valid point regarding the slowness. I think this version of the game ended up being a bit trapped in no mans land between too conflicting ideas. Originally I'd actually envisioned it as more of an idle clicker that you could drop in an out of, hence it was quite slow and chill. However it ended up that, particularly as time goes on, you really have to pay attention to it and nothing's automated which is obviously more like an RTS. Ultimately this kind of game needs a lot more testing and balancing than I was able to give it during the jam.

The Harvest by machinescreen 2019-04-30T12:41:30Z

Thanks @wesleyronald, I quite like this idea so I may well develop it further. I've heard of but haven't actually played Eufloria so I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for the tip!

The Harvest by machinescreen 2019-04-30T13:18:32Z

@jacob-valore Yeah, I originally wanted to implement a very basic threat mechanism for the jam whereby high defence systems would send out their own ships to take over nearby systems. Alas it was one of the features scrapped due to lack of time. If I develop the game further there probably should be AI that can do everything you can. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

The Harvest by machinescreen 2019-04-30T13:19:52Z

Thanks @velvetlobster. Yeah, the scrolling is a bit janky, sorry about that. If you weren't already, my pro tip is to play the game fullscreen as it seems be slightly better that way.

The Harvest by machinescreen 2019-05-06T21:51:47Z

@ivan-garcia-filho Thanks so much for your useful UI/UX suggestions - I'll definitely be taking them into consideration if I develop the game further. I really wanted to have some music/ambience in there and did start composing something with a couple of hours to go before the deadline - alas I never finished it.

@al19890604 Thanks! Yeah, the balance definitely isn't right in this version. Agreed that scrolling with keys would have worked much better - I got weirdly blinkered about doing cursor edge scrolling for some reason!

@duke Thanks for playing and for your detailed comment! Glad to hear you could work out how to play the game without reading the reference. I did originally intend to include an ability to change the speed of time but, again, it was a feature cut due to time constraints. I would definitely want to include this if I develop the game further. I agree that grabbing and moving would work much better for the scrolling (as a bonus this would also translate to touch screens) and I think I'd probably include scrolling with keys as an option too.

Blood Rite by Twan Mul 2019-04-30T23:07:22Z

Not the game I was expecting from the presentation - but a pleasant surprise. I really like the rough graphical style which is just enhanced with the scan lines. One of my favourite games so far for sure.

Knit Worth by ColeSlaughter 2019-05-06T12:13:08Z

Top marks for humour obviously and a great interpretation of the theme. Generally the game is ridiculously well polished - the art is incredible and sound works great (though it's a bit roughly recorded I really like the voice acting too!). The actual game is quite simple but I think it works well and is perfectly scoped for a jam game.

Piggy Bank ! by FlavienRombouts 2019-04-30T22:53:31Z

Seriously professional game - you could pretty much sell this right now. Nice progression through the levels and I liked that there were sometimes red herrings. Shame I couldn't hear any sound but understand that's an issue you're aware of so didn't rate you on it. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the controls as I found myself sometimes intending to go in a certain direction but hitting the wrong key thinking it would be right one. It may work better with just all mouse control.

The dangerous life of an indie dev by ougrouk 2019-04-30T23:18:58Z

A black comedy game! Damn, now I'm bankrupt - I knew I shouldn't have hired that Sound Designer!

Rashness by Saering 2019-04-30T17:46:22Z

Character art is great and the overall presentation is well polished. Clicking can get a bit tiring though!

Guardian Sphere by Pixel-boy 2019-04-30T17:27:42Z

I am in love with the colour palette and the art in general. Incredibly polished looking game. The controls are a bit awkward for single player though!

Transfert by p0nce 2019-04-30T18:02:57Z

Incredible art style though I wish the ant was better animated. Music is great and the overall mood is top notch.

D.R.I.E.D. by JasonD 2019-04-30T22:32:04Z

Great game with lots of potential for development. Presentation is top notch.

Escape from Hell by Becher 2019-05-02T12:09:33Z

Good concept that fits the theme well and some beautiful pixel art, though the hell area is a bit spartan in comparison to outside. With some further development I think you could definitely find more of the 'fun' in this idea.

utsvulten by ditto 2019-04-30T01:42:11Z

Looks and sounds incredible with such a great, disturbing feel.

LD53 — Delivery

Air Delivery by pianoman373 2023-05-03T07:28:12Z

What charming game. Great combination of the theme and a metroidvania progression system. Lovely graphics and sound.

Fridge Floppers by Split82 2023-05-03T11:20:52Z

I think this is my favourite game so far. It's so much fun, is very polished and feels great. The aesthetic is just incredible - I particularly love how the character's eyes are always looking at the fridge.

Forecast Folly by RetroSpecter 2023-05-03T17:11:05Z

Really enjoyed this one. Despite the simple gameplay it hooked me in. The great graphics and sound helped with that - I loved the entirely vocal based music.

Parcel Blaster 2099 by graebor 2023-05-02T16:23:10Z

It's the whole package, great combination of gameplay, graphics and audio. Keeping your eyes on two things is stressful but rewarding when you get in the flow and it feels great when you just manage to pick up fuel in time.

shape shipper by torcado 2023-05-03T06:59:32Z

I am too slow at this game, even after I realised you could pick up multiple shapes at a time! Lovely graphics and sound. Such a simple idea, executed really well. Sometimes I felt the controls weren't particularly responsive on the web-build.

IceCream Van by notnasiul 2023-05-02T17:08:23Z

Those kids be mad! Nice set of mechanics and it looks great. My only gripe is sometimes part of the ice cream serving UI would be offscreen. Solid entry.

After Curfew by machinescreen 2023-05-04T06:52:58Z

@pdotjpg Yeah, a few people have mentioned about not knowing whether there is an ultimate goal as it's not communicated anywhere. There is and it's to deliver 5 packages and then escape. I've added a note to the LD post to clarify. Thanks for playing and for your feedback. :)

@johnsensei I'm not exactly sure what you mean about the mouse going off screen but maybe your mouse wasn't captured by the game? You may have needed to recapture the mouse again once in game by clicking (if you can see the cursor, your mouse isn't captured). The inverted mouse setting is just for people who like to play with the up and down movements of the mouse swapped around (so moving the mouse up moves the camera view down and vice versa). Thanks for playing.

Thanks also to everyone else for playing and for the great feedback I've received - super useful.

Mad Meow: Purriosa's Panic by Strega 2023-05-02T17:14:51Z

Cool game that mashes up a number of genres. There's so much content for a jam game as well. Absolutely in love the character graphics - less keen on the solid colour projectiles though. Also I found sometimes the enemies clumped together at the edge of the screen which made it difficult.

Bundle Beeline by Squidly 2023-05-03T19:22:28Z

Solid, polished entry - the graphics are just perfect and I also love the sound. Maybe a touch more friction when landing would be useful - I found it difficult to judge correctly to avoid sliding off smaller platforms.

Ravenhaul by Rongo Matane 2023-05-03T16:50:32Z

Top notch graphics, sound and mood. This is a game with a lot of complexity and depth for a jam game which is such an achievement. Overall great.

Parcel Panic by pdotjpg 2023-05-03T07:52:09Z

Cool Papers Please-like with solid graphics and sound - I especially enjoyed the chunky keypad. I think it's possible to put packages places they're not meant to go (like behind the customs area) but it was never unrecoverable.

Boxbrawl Delivery by Cruise Elroy 2023-05-02T16:30:46Z

Authentic retro experience. I'm in love with the graphics and sound - just *chefs kiss*. Gameplay is difficult but I imagine you could get quite good at it given time.

Postal Town by FreezedIce 2023-05-02T17:32:24Z

A lovely chill game with great graphics and mood. It probably could explain some stuff upfront - I didn't initially realise routes had to circle back to the post office and that you could have multiple routes active at once. Solid entry though with high levels of polish.

Baby Boom by SophieM 2023-05-02T09:36:21Z

So many dead babies... An extremely well polished game that is a lot of fun. Simple idea, perfectly executed. Nicely done!

MailBeats ✉️🎶 by Adam Gaskins 2023-05-02T18:59:33Z

Really polished entry which is genuinely engaging. Also 'I Have An Apartment Complex' is a great track name, haha.

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-02T16:48:32Z

Best game I've played so far. Everything is awesome, no notes. The puzzles are legit great and that music is a bob.

Deliver to Whence you Came by JUSTCAMH 2023-05-03T17:01:50Z

Lovely graphics and the music you chose really set the mood. The lure mechanic is top notch - great idea. Overall really solid game and I'm a fan of how you integrated it into your itch page.

Meat Missile Madness by Oliver Pope 2023-05-03T14:47:07Z

Cool interpretation of the theme. I enjoyed the graphics and sound. I found the controls to be okay - it kind of felt on purpose that it wasn't absolutely precise. It did find it a bit frustrating when stuff fell on the floor though.

Juggle Mail by kuviman 2023-05-03T20:37:05Z

Nice idea, well executed as a straight up fun game. I really enjoyed the audio and the graphics are perfectly styled for the type of game.

K-SANDWICH by mmatt_ugh 2023-05-02T17:22:15Z

Oh the juice! This game feels great. The punching had to be satisfying and it most certainly is. Love the fact that there are a load of different moves that all use the punch - punching up walls is great. It also looks and sounds good too. Stand out humour entry for me as well - the floating fat guys are great.

Hellfire Pizza by AploveStudio 2023-05-02T19:11:55Z

Love the limited colour palette artwork and the theming is top notch. I would probably prefer the driving to feel a bit tighter but then again maybe you were going for a looser feel. The control scheme can also be quite unintuitive at times. The chefs kiss devil is just awesome.

Debbie's Diner Derby by Oroshibu 2023-05-02T19:25:33Z

Man, this is a hard game - the roller skating physics are so unforgiving. Alternatively maybe it's a skill issue on my part or the fact I was playing on keyboard. Absolutely love the graphics and sound. Generally super polished entry. I also love that someone is credited with '1 idea'. The question is, what was that idea?!

Forklift-em-up by BadPiggy 2023-05-02T09:05:02Z

Cool game, though I am terrible at it! Great idea, I'm a fan of the style and love the music.

Cracken Cargo by cfinger 2023-05-03T11:06:18Z

This is a great game and a cool idea. The art is a standout for me and I like how it switches between tentacles depending on where you're pointing. I noticed containers could pass through the Kraken and maybe if they didn't do that it'd be easier to keep them on the boat!

Drone Delivery Despair by KenForest 2023-05-08T17:51:24Z

Incredible atmosphere and mood for a jam game. The visual style is also top notch and fits perfectly. Obviously it's not the most 'fun' gameplay-wise but I don't think that matters - it's clearly not pitching for 'fun' in the first place. Overall one of my favourites of the jam.

PARCEL PUNISHER by SirMilkman 2023-05-02T19:31:47Z

Adore the notepad pen sketch art style and I'm a big fan of the game feel and sound too. Theming is also top notch. Great game.

Postal Pandemonium by dprings7 2023-05-03T07:17:36Z

Even on the conveyer I found it sometimes difficult to tell what something was and the writing on the helper sheet is too small. Otherwise a well executed game and I liked the music. However I'm slightly confused about whether we should be rating you on graphics and sound as the itch page mentions you used pre-existing assets.

Crazy Postman by agushmar 2023-05-03T11:12:02Z

Cool game, I like the art style a lot. The vehicle physics felt a bit odd to me and the controls are positioned awkwardly on the keyboard. Otherwise a really polished, solid entry.

🗣️ MR SPEECH: The Purr-fect Pitch by Choo 2023-05-03T07:44:45Z

A genuinely funny game and a really well executed idea. Lots of hilarious little touches (squeaky shoes). Good preparation for going on Dragon's Den.

Giggle Groove by badcop 2023-05-03T07:36:13Z

Great, unique idea. It's quite difficult with no beat to follow but I think it's probably possible to get good at it. Really solid entry.

Crash Courier by Ategon 2023-05-02T20:12:01Z

A pretty hard game but great overall. Loved the fact that each level was a new environment and the music is sweet. Wasn't sure whether I was being stupid but didn't notice a way to avoid dead ends so unsure whether they're telegraphed in any way.

Porker Pig the Postal Pilot by NaNixDev 2023-05-03T10:58:00Z

Yeah, like others have said I didn't find the plane the easiest to control - maybe it's a bit too realistic and it could have been more arcadey. Otherwise a solid game, nice job.

GobEx by WeirdBitGames 2023-05-03T19:55:18Z

Great aesthetic plus excellent sound design and music. Cool interpretation of the theme as well. Nicely done.

Inaka Flowers by SquidGod 2023-05-02T19:17:31Z

Lovely chill game that has mood in spades. I enjoyed the low res pixel art and the sounds are also great but part of me wishes there was also some sparse music here and there to go with it.

Deep Sands Delivery by Rjdrag 2023-05-02T17:02:28Z

I wish I could drive the rig :( It's a great concept and held my attention. I found some of the iconography a bit difficult to understand and I made some mistakes because I wasn't sure what I was doing. Overall a very cool game.

Dead Deliverance by JimmyMcGinger 2023-05-02T20:29:23Z

Cool, classic platformer. Super awesome art - I love the limited colour palette.
