It's an very interesting and creative concept. I like the way I can change the environment to my needs.

Some puzzles are very challenging. The pulling in I can fully grasp. But I have a hard time wrapping my head around pushing out. Needs some practice.

otresnjak 2019-04-29 10:26

Very clever idea! Enjoyed this a lot, although I couldn't figure out some of the levels. :)

morg 2019-04-29 10:29

Really neat little game. I agree that the pulling is very intuitive but the pushing is really hard to execute properly. A lot of puzzles were a bit frustrating because they became trial and error hoping to get the right position for the right push.

Overall I enjoyed the charming mechanics a lot, great one!

aileron 2019-04-29 10:34

I had slight issues with pushing out as well but I loved the unique mechanic. Kept me playing through to the end even though I was in a bit of a hurry!

victorcrafty 2019-04-29 10:53

Very nice graphics. The idea is good and I enjoyed the mechanics. I didn't win the game but anyway i think is very cool. Good job!!

carlospidox 2019-04-29 11:36

This is pretty cool, I really like the idea! I wish pushing was more intuitive though, I spent all of the time trying to figure it out. But maybe that's the point of the game.

Regardless, got really far into it, nice job!

Miller, you have not let me down. This is such a cool concept! It would be nearly effortless to make a full game out of this, all you will need to do is make interesting block placements and see if they're possible to beat.

le-slo 2019-04-30 01:30

As always you find an interesting and hugely innovative concept.(The only thing I missed is some music or atmosphere). The lack of undo is frustrating, specially when the execution is one or two pixels away from the solution, and the mechanic itself is a bit unpredictable, so some levels (a lot of pulsations available) become hard work. Apart from that, classic Miller consistence.

stevenjmiller 2019-04-30 03:15

@le-slo Thanks for playing! I agree, the lack of undo was quite frustrating. I didn't have time to implement it during the jam (the large amount of potentially changing instances made things complicated), but I just uploaded a version that has it.

Super cool concept, albeit a bit difficult to learn. I really like the idea of creating puzzles around manipulating the environment. My biggest criticism is that there were levels where it felt like even though there were 2, maybe 3 parts, the all the first steps were trivial, but the last one was a brain-buster (suuuuper thankful you put in a skip level button). At times it got super frustrating because the game doesn't really give that much feedback to the player on what they're impacting and how. Regardless, it's a beautiful concept with great art and despite my periodic frustrations, I enjoyed it, well done!

I love the idea, classic pixel art is nice for this style of game.I think it's a good puzzle platformer, original and fit very well with the theme.Good job !

dannn 2019-04-30 11:31

Love the game.

fazz 2019-04-30 13:38

This is a really novel idea for a puzzle game, well worth exploring further!

raivk 2019-04-30 13:39

Really unique entry ! I had a hard time figuring how everything works, but when I did, it was alright. It's quite original and I like it :) congrats !

youpeoples 2019-04-30 18:25

This was linked to me by some random dude in chat. And boy am I glad they did. This was a treat to play. Terrain morphing puzzle platformer. yes pls. Difficult to learn really understand at first. But you eventually get there. Thanks for making this :)

mateusboga 2019-04-30 23:42

Very unique and well executed game that unfortunately doesn't really seem to have much of a link to the really specific theme that was chosen. Your games are always a treat, Steven, keep it up!

shulololo 2019-05-01 04:00

The game mechanic is pretty unique! I had trouble making it work to my favor for some puzzles. But most of the time it was pretty cool to experiment with the mechanic like in level 15 where I had to make multiple platforms moving towards the top platform with only the ground. Pretty cool game, I enjoyed it!

marcenat 2019-05-01 12:41

Awesome mechanic, I love puzzle games like this. It was very well executed, I play until the end :)

The concept is well introduced, the difficulty curve well crafted, and the the new mechanics were introduced gradually, so overral the level design is solid, and reminds me of Braid, in the way elements are placed juuuust in the right spot to annoy you :)

Graphics are minimal, but do the job, same for the audio, many games have annoying bip when you move/jump, here it is subtle enough. For the graphics I would like to point out that even if they are simple, they do convey all the information needed (the two cricles, the remaining pulse...) in a clear and consistent way, which is very rare in LD game. Moreover I love the little "destructive pulse" effect at the end of a level.

The theme is a not really used, but can't blame you it is a bit too restrictive.

So, cool game dude :)

jjjjason 2019-05-05 03:20

The impreciseness is very interesting. Since it leads to each puzzle having multiple solutions (even if the idea is generally the same), it encourages experimentation as opposed to punishing it as "brute-force". I did play the post-LD version though--I can imagine this iterative process being extremely frustrating without an undo button.

I actually do quite like how I never *fully* understood how the push and pull would affect things. Besides (again) rewarding experimentation, it made it become more innate rather than purely logical. I think cheesing is a generally satisfying thing, and the game mechanics do a good job at making us feel like we've cheated the system, even though I'm pretty sure you've meticulously planned out the move space

I was a big fan of the "moving platforms" move that a couple of the puzzles had us do in the middle, but I'm also doubly happy that you were able to find a way to move on from that and not end up having every puzzle essentially being the same but with a different layout.

Lastly, while I think there's a way to work some sort of ambient tune into this, the super bass-heavy sound effects work well with the graphical theme (as well as the LD theme tie with the heartbeat). Cool stuff!

mika-la-grand 2019-05-06 14:48

It's a very innovative idea, but it is too difficult at the moment. It seems like it is based a lot on trial and error, instead of understanding the mechanic.

machinescreen 2019-05-06 22:19

Top marks for innovation - I've never played anything quite like that before! It's quite a difficult concept to get your head around but it slowly becomes clearer. I wonder whether there's some way to telegraph to the player what effect the pulse will have before they commit as I think this would aid in the learning process. Perhaps some sort of 'live' view of how the terrain will be manipulated when you mouse over it so you can see how different positioning of the pulse will alter the effect. This might make the game too easy if it was always available but I guess it could be limited to the early levels.

yopox 2019-05-14 17:50

i loved it ! Great job overall.

drury 2019-05-18 11:12

Took me back to the times of playing Lemmings back in the day.

The main mechanic isn't very intuitive, but that's perfectly fine since it made me stop and think about each move and I had infinite time to do so, making it feel like a proper puzzle game despite the open-ended design. The latter levels actually gave a proper mind challenge, and I feel quite accomplished beating the game without skipping, however I think the final puzzle could be even a bit harder and stingier on resources.

Now, as fun as the game is, I don't see the theme or the humor. Everything else, high marks.
