You naughty beast! by goerp 2012-12-18T14:33:00
Really had to laugh at the title screen haha.

Really had to laugh at the title screen haha.
Kept me playing for awhile, but the controls are really really hard. And sometimes if felt like the left and right arrow keys send me turning the opposite direction of what would seem logical to me.
That was just impossible :(
It looks good and the gameplay feels nice, but I wasn't too sure what to do at the bank at first and after I figured that out the game became a bit simple and it didn't seem to have a clear end to it.
There should be sound+music on mac, and there actually is an endboss, but due to lack of time I didn't get the conditions for his spawn right...
Thanks! I made the AI myself just using collision checking functions.
Basically what I did is if there is an enemy on the same height/y he moves away vertically and if the enemy gets to close he also backs away horizontally, then if there isnt an enemy too close to him and he is at the edge of the screen, he tries to go back to the center of the screen a little more.
I hope this clarifies it ;)
You can also contact me via tijmentio@hotmail.com if you have further questions!
Haha very funny and clever
Awesome effect! Looks amazing. And I thought the eerie theme was pretty cool.
Nice AI! And the taunts were really funny!
All that was said previously
Really solid game, the gameplay was good as well as the graphics. The theme fits well too.
I know that they're intentionally, but still i find myself confused about the last glitch( I suppose it's the last one as it appeared nothing after 5 minutes with me smashing random buttons on the keyboard). Anyhow I think the way of putting in glitches this way is kind of interesting!
Haha, that was really funny. Like the idea of shooting the bottles too.
This really kept me going for some time.
This is my favorite Jam entry so far! I have yet to 'win' the game, but I'm gonna try some more tomorrow. Absolutely amazing work!
Simple, yet so mesmerizing!
There is so much I like about this game, I wouldn't know where to start. I guess to put it simple it all fits so well together! Great job!
Unfortunately, even after trying for about 15 minutes, both me and my girlfriend couldn't figure out the (2nd) puzzle :(
And btw, cool you remembered me from the previous Ludum Dare ;)
I'm glad you also liked my second LD entry :D
Wow, the visuals are amazing and so is the audio! They create a really stunning mood, which is hard to do ;)
However the mechanics were a bit sloppy! For example, you can't jump while running down a slope...
But don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this game a lot :) Well done
I was really looking forward to this but I couldn't get it to run :(
Thanks for all the kind comments so far! They put a big smile on my face :)
@Alex Rose I had to make the font myself to get it to look nice on Mac haha
Quite challenging, but that's a good thing! Well done for your first time ;)
Shot them all down flew straight to the end, easy... Until you get in the car haha. You had me there.
I also really liked the artstyle!
Whaha so funny :)
Great job! Had a fun time playing it, and it all looks and feels fantastic :)
The graphics are really nice :)
But how do you play it!?
It has something to do with the time I'm sure, too bad I just couldn't figure it out :(
Love it, 5 stars :)
Still playing it, it goes so deep...
Uhm
I sank through the floor after "jumping" of the building :S
I got stuck, supposedly because the room generates randomly? Besides that I had a lot of fun with it :) I really liked the hexagonal style!
Really fits the theme well! I personally enjoyed the player's animation a lot too :)
Wow, really nice job! Found myself playing this for a long time ;)
It's short, simple and works great. A solid entry, ESPECIALLY for 4,8 hours!! We all know how impossible it is to finish a game in such a short amount of time.
Oh and I don't know if anyone else noticed or if it even was on purpose, but: 48hours / 10(sec) = 4,8hours
Brain exploded
Absolutely amazing what you did in such a short amount of time!
Hahaa, I think this might be my favorite so far in terms of overall, fun and innovation/theme ;)
WELL DONE
Nice game! Although the controls felt really floaty.
Graphics are stunning! The gameplay mechanics are original and work well. Overall a really good entry, great job!
How innovative! Might also have been great for Minimalism, ha!
Haha this was awesome and it just worked perfectly! 10 seconds are just enough to solve the mystery!
Victoly!(ending typo :p) Cool game, very addictive liked the mechanics. However the physics could use an upgrade as I did get stuck into the wall a few times...
That final level really got to me haha.
Lovely game :)
"Seriously, 10 seconds!?" HA!
Awesome game!
@Ossi Because I got tired of pumping whahaha
@Catmoo Wow! How did that happen huh!? I'm sorry, I'd have no idea how to fix that, as it shouldn't be (and for the rest of us, isn't) like that :(
@awppy If you want to skip the intro you can just press any key each dialogue to go to the next one! :)
@theholychicken wow yeah a shark would've been awesome!!!
@MuciojadPL Bahaha, yes I suppose winning is rather challenging.
@caranha wow thank you very much! Well I further developed my last LD game: "MyMiniCastle" for iOS and it's currently awaiting review from apple ^^
@TobiasW It was by design, but apprarently mot that good design :p
I tried to make the music go faster as the time runs out, but found myself limited by gamemaker :(
See you next LD!
Absolutely stunninnnngg, played till the end and it was worth it.
No idea what I just played, but it sure as fun whaha.
Really like the assumably gameboy zelda inspired music ;) + the graphics and great use of the theme!
However the controls were awful, try evaluating movement at the very end of the frame if you didn't already do that. And the collisions didn't seem to occur sometimes when they should :/ It feels like it's the game's fault for not making that jump instead of the player's fault.
But anyhow, like I said, theme/graphics/audio were done really well!
Can't stop laughing about him humming along with the theme song whaha
Nice game, was able to complete all levels. I have to say you could've tweaked the controls more, since it felt really floaty and slippery.
DREAM TEAM! Who became the third member?
Great fun game, well done!
Pretty fun!
Wish you were my dad!!! Haha, but really, this game might be just a simple shooter, it's super fun to play. Besides, bonus points for the hilarious intro, cracked me up!
Loved the humor, gameplay was fun and just overall a great entry, well done!
You just make games on a whole nother level
Wtffff that was AWESOME! Did you voice record the sound effects?
BZZZZZAP
Wow, this was amazing.
The use of the theme was very Majora's Mask-ish, but that was just wonderful, the only downside of it being that it became a little bit annoying getting teleported back each time.
Moreover the music, graphice and ESPECIALLY the mood were absolutely stunning.
Great job!!!
Hey great job on finishing something after just learning Unity! And just wanted to say that the description says right mouse button to shoot, but it is obviously the left mouse button!
Anyways well done
Fun, cute, awesome, HYPER, addictive, just aaaah it's GREAT!!!! Too bad I went HYPER just before the boss battle, so I didn't really get to see him. But that's okay, I felt special :)
Cool game, had some fun with it. Only thing I didn't get was the supposed special ability of the first ship? Otherwise nice entry, good use of theme!
Restaurants in my city can learn a lot from this game bwaha
Had so much fun, played with 8 people I think.
Tripleeee headshooot. Clever and gruesome use of the theme man whaha. I sadly have to admit that the triple headshot was quite satisfying.... hmm... Although now that I'm staring at the screenies, aren't those zombie kids?
Title was clever, 'murdertality' was funny, whole game was so much fun I just canNOT stop laughing bwahahhahaha..
So yeah, as you may have discovered, I'm really bad at these comment things. So cheers annnd have some stars.
(BTW I tried fixing my own game's fullscreen issue just for you!! *wink**wink*)
Well I FINALLY got around to playing it! As a matter of fact it's the first thing I did after getting back home from the holidays and I'm just in time to rate it too :)
This may sound stupid, but it reminded my of a Zelda dungeon haha. Not just having a new item and solving clever puzzles with it, but also the entire mood surrounding it. The puzzles were great, but not frustrating and the story was a really fantastic addition to it all, making it a beautiful, perfect little game :)
And before I quit typing I have to mention that the music was brilliant!!
I loved the concept and accidentaly sacrifing your friend was clever. Got a bit stuck at the end though: the most upper block didn't sparkle? And there were two other, but I only had one diamond and that didn't do a lot, so I was kind of lost.. Music was really nice!
Really liked it, nothing I can say that hasn't been said before. The voices were funny but fitted well. Maybe it some checkpoint would've been at place? ;)
Best idea of the month. You should elaborate on this!
@Pol randomly generated :) although I think it is possible to get a uncompletable level. But I'm not sure..
Use of theme was very eggcurate
HOT DAAAAMMN
This shit blew my GODDAMN MIND
THis is soooo cooooool
You guys are the Jam winners for sure.
This game is next gen gaming wassuuuup
5 STARS
Haha, that was really funny. And I liked that you spend more time on the audio!
I really like the diversity of the enemies. Like the penguin-airplane haha.
It's not very polished and it's just a basic tower defense game, but you still accomplished a lot and I think you did a great job nonetheless ;)
Nice, compact game! Didn't get really far, since it's a bit hard. Maybe starting a bit slower and gradually going faster would be better?
Pretty sweet. Could use some audio, juiciness and content. But what you have is solid!
Great adaption of the theme, so hilarious hahaha
I like that I couldn't just rush through it, because I would bump into an enemy. So I had to steadily move forward, which was nice.
Gameplaywise it could be a bit more versatile in my opinion.
The double hat was cool ;)
Holy fking crap this is hard on my laptop whaha
Okay, this is really amazing, like always. It is a tad hard and it's not always clear what to do/where to go. But that's your style and it reminds me so much of classic games on NES. When I play your games I feel like I'm exploring something and that feels GREAT. I'll be playing this some more later, definitely!
Awesomeeeeeeee
Really funny, clever; this isn't your everyday game. I really like how it is educational as it is fun. Too bad I'm a slow typer hehe :( Gotta practise some more.
Also, from reading just the title, I expected something veeeery different, which is hilarious to me ;)
This is reeaally hard on a trackpad. Besides that, amaaaaazing game. 5/5 !!!
sweet
Spent a lot of time on this; had a lot of fun ;)
Few things bothering me were that the physics are a bit clunky and that that there are too many waves in a level, making the game tedious at some point. I felt like I was grinding and grinding...
If you'd fix those and insert some sick music/sfx, this could be a really amazing game!
A lot of levels. Great little game. Ending was cool. Yeah basically what Dir3kt said: a solid entry ;) well done
Hahaha, so much fun man. pew pew pew
btw the concept art I saw on Twitter was SICK
Ahaaa the last titan ;) This is an amazing game. A winner in my book! It is as enjoyable as it is admirable.
Cool, but for some reason the walls and such don't load, won't appear. I can play the game with invisible walls though...
Wow can't believe this was made in just 2 days!
Nice work as always! Only the navigation was tedious, why didn't you make a camera following the mouse? And you could've made some more visual feedback. Because for example, I only found out after 10/15 minuten that the goblins were carrying gold back to the ladder as opposed to just wandering around haha. Anyhow I enjoyed it to the end of it :)
Haha this is awesome!
Whaha that ending had me. Mood is intriguing as always!
Hahaa this was really cool! Reminds a little bit about how I like to make games myself ^^
If you continue on this, revisit the physics! collisions with walls are kind of weird and the cargo got stuck in the wall a few times. I really liked the random generated music!
Visuals were cool. The pathfinding seemed inconsistent, so I couldn't really anticipate what path to create for the rats..
I also really liked the music, it was nice ^^
Great atmosphere/mood. Visually fantastic and that big ball feels real heavy 'cause of the effects. Which is nice. Good job, wonder what this will grow up to be.
Love the concept! Maybe it's just a tat too difficult, but great work!
This could easily become an awesome horror game! Love the mood. I only wonder why you didn't explain about the 'R' button. I only found out about it in the comments!
I'm gonna play this later with my friends! LOVE local multiplayer :D
This is truly great, only lacking in audio. Visually loved it and had fun playing it :)
Wow this is so good! Cannot believe you made this together in just three days! My only complaints are unexpected collision boxes and the ending, which in my opinion was a bit unsatisfying. But yeah great work! 5/5
I can't seem to compose my dishes even when i fried and boiled everything that needs to be fried and boiled and put it in the middle of the cutting board.. But nice graphics, cool game!
Love local multiplayer!!!!!
Feel so mellow now
You're welcome
Thanks for the great feedback y'all ^^
I quit playing because i couldn't figure out what to do after getting the lighter.. :(
I don't really see how the game corresponds to the theme, but maybe that's because i didn't finish it. Other than that i really loved playing it, it felt really nice and i really dig the mood!
Nice game and cool graphics, though a little unbalanced. Healthbars would also be helpful! Love to see a post compo version!
Loved bombing everything into oblivion until it crashed. Had a nice run though.
Super liked the music! But the game itself was a bit short. The death animation was cool too :p
I couldn't really get past the last level and I didn't really had the feeling I was getting any better or that was even a possibility to get better at it. And getting combo'ed by those machines shooting green fire also felt like it was the game's fault I died instead of having the feeling it was MY fault I got hit.. But aside from that, it is a nice polished game, great job on finishing it in just 48 hours, hope to see you joining the compo next time again :)
For 4 hours, this is pretty nice. Better than some I've seen made in the full timeframe ;) it's still a bit too minimalistic though, but I think you're aware of that.
The visuals are, despite being on the small side, super rad! And the concept is very nice as well!
This is sooo frickin' polished, hot damn nice work y'all. Llllloved it.
Such a clever concept!!! Though I bailed at level 3 (?) 'cause it was just too DAMN HARD, I'm sorry... I don't even much to add to what others have said, but you did a great job!
Like the concept! But daaaamn it was kind of difficult! Didn't finish the game because i got to frustrated with myself haha
Riiiiiight... didn't expect that from something called 'the last penguin' haha. But just a warning though; your game can come of as a little offensive to some people..;) maybe you should've added a warning or something haha
That last one was really clever ;) controls were a bit unfriendly, but this could potentially become something really cool.
Great concept, great mood :) i think i broke my keyboard haha
Really nice ambient! Didn't really get why he sunk at the end though haha.
GOT THE COOKIE!!! This is really difficult, but that shouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't just so unforgiving: Most of the time you don't see what will comes next when you leap of a ledge and if you land on it you spawn all the way back at square 1... The visuals were really interesting! I wonder if cockroaches see the world like that.
Hmm.. Looks like the pathfinding AI isn't working well.. which is a shame :(
Also i don't really get the feeling of progression and not all the unlockables became available. Overall it was fun to play cause i kept on playing for like half an hour haha, but i think you can make something more out of this game!
Great work, especially for your first time, but the physics are just terrible. Some jumps are occasionally higher than normal, but you need them to get through the lab. And a bunch of other things like shooting in front of a guard is void make the game feel very glitchy. That being said, for 48Hours you did a great job nonetheless ;) (And I'm bad at physics in unity too)
I couldn't heal for some reason? :( And the animations were weird (everyone walks on their toes? :p) the controls weren't favorable, I mean, why use 1 to get your pistol out. It's the only thing you've got. Seems like an unnecessary interaction. And the level design was super odd. Why do I have to go through this same path where I already killed all the enemies? Why is there no shortcut for when you finish the first part? Sometimes I had to jump into the unknown, hoping to land on something (small), you could've put in some indication of where to go. And then suddenly the enemy count jumps from 1 to 10 again and I have to go all the way back to the ammo and heal part again and then again through the part I already finished... There are a bunch of things you can work and improve on. But so far you did a nice job, keep making games and try to get better. Hope to see you next LD :)
Nice game! Theme was well applied. Although I think it's way too difficult. Most of the time you can't avoid getting hit.
By the way, I get an error when I try to open the Web version.
Harder than it looks! Nice game :)
Try working on your visual feedback next time! Took me some time to realize what I was doing. There also seems to be significant lag in the controls. Those two combined gave me the feeling that pressing "spacebar" wasn't doing anything at all! It thrives most in the audio part for sure.
Wow took me a while to figure it out, but once i did, it was fun to play!
Awesome concept and awesome game! I got really good at it, got 113651 points!!! Woohoo!
Love the visual style and the overall concept. The game is a bit repetitive and it wasn't always clear to me what I was doing or what was happening. For example, the humans raged at my feet with weapons, but I don't think I was getting hit right? So work on that and you can really get somewhere with this :) good luck!
Wow this is really well polished for a 72hour jam game :O Controls, physics, graphically, audio. Everything is just superb. You can even upgrade stuff! Definitely my favorite jam game so far! I really want to play this coop with controllers haha, would be so SICK, hah, get it, sick...
AAACK LEAVE ME ALOOOONE
Maybe if you'd had to type words, this could be a really nice learn-how-to-type game :)
I loooooove those visuals!!!! This could really turn into something great!
As of now, the gameplay does get somewhat stale after about 5 minutes. But I saw what you are planning in the how-to-play screen and it looks promising ;) Also, cool take on the theme and I really liked the music, but the mole sound effects did get a bit irritating after a while :p
Anyhow, great job, one of my favorite jam entries!
HO-LY FFFFFUCK. That was intense... Very impressive you can call out those emotions with so less!
Did somebody noticed that the rain washes away the blood from the tombstones? That shit's neat.
Wow this was really macabre and the open ending actually very fitting! It's a shame it has no sound though. I also liked the graphics a lot!
Nothing too outrageous, but really really solid, polished and balanced. I do miss that exceptional thing that some of your other games had, like duke dashington!
WICKEEEEED
This is really neat. It's such a shame you couldn't get the levels done in time. I tried both versions and it makes a HUUUUGE difference haha. The one without the new levels is so tedious to play I have no idea what to do. And the one WITH the good level design is really fun to play and keeps me wanting to explore more :) I also miss music a lot :( That's something that can really add a lot to these kind of little puzzle games.
I really don't know what I should write, because it's just so much. I mean, it all started with entering my name and it typed Rude Bear on its own and I couldn't stop laughing. I guess I want to point out a whole bunch of things that made me cry and laugh but you should just play the game to understand it. Yes it's that kind of thing: you have to experience it for yourself -.- And it's fking HARD on a trackpad so I haven't beaten the game YET. I love rude bear, don't be afraid Alex, its integrity is still very much present hehe. Cheers!
Best ending
More like an interactive short story, but a really really good one at that. Damn I was really stunned! Still am.
Holy fucking shit dude, how in the world did you do this in 72 hours. Played two games and the second time I understood what I was doing. Your games are always awesome and this is no exception. I am still flabbergasted...
The pace is maybe a bit slow, but otherwise this is a really cool game. I'll play some more against other people later!
Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare dude! Nice work.
The collisions were a bit off and the game is a bit too unforgiving for my taste, wrong jump? BOOM loud sfx DEAD.
But it does have that "just one more try" feeling. Flipping worlds is the best thing since it obviously helps without really changing anything.
The end cracked me up big time whaha.
Wow wow wow super sick spacecraft building mechanic!!! Maybe it could use more gameplay, but it's there. And that's all really impressive for a hand-burned first-timer. I miss more explosions and music. But dude nice work man cheers.
Congratulations on your first LD dude! ^^ For a first time this is really really good! I personally think that it's a bit too difficult. Especially the jump height bugged me out each time I fell into a little gap and got stuck. I can see you tried going for game feel but I think you can still learn a LOT on that part, here maybe this video helps if you haven't seen it yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg Because you know, in your game there isn't too much happening and it can get a bit stale. Add more different elements and exaggerate even more!
I just sent a solar panel adrift along with a doubtful friendly message. And I loved every part of it.
I'm stuck :( ...I think... the graphical style is really sweet though! Congratulations with your first LD :)
Super creative concept man! The faces are fucking hilarious. Nice mute button. But really, take on the theme is pretty clever!
Way to make a statement haha
YES this is looking great gonna play it now!
Alright, very solid game! love the curtains opening and closing. It all feels so polished since every aspect of the game fits in the theme (the theatre theme) and needless to say, you're pixel art is crisp as always :) I kinda missed a climax though and I felt like not all stages' level design were as good. Although there is a lot of content (which is great for48h), maybe less stages with better thought out level design would've made it better. I've seen you do great level design so you could've ;) Also, it reminded me a lot of Penarium, Know it? Anyways cheers, great entry as usual!
Cool idea, played it for like an hour hahaha. The pinball/space invaders mix is pretty nifty and worked out pretty well. I think the game could use a lot more visual feedback and I also think that the sumo guy was a bit too slow and seemed to kinda stick to much to walls sometimes if that makes any sense.. That tune is so awesome btw! can't believe you made that in such a short amount of time :o
Whahaha I was playing this alone and was almost constantly laughing out loud. What a blast!
Doing the wave if super fun whahaha
I'm Poopy Soldier the Snowman and I love every part of it. Short lifespan due to bad choices. I should've figured I shouldn't make a boat if I don't know how to do it. Stupid me.
OMIGOSH too cute dude
Man this is so hard! I think the sensitivity was too slow at slow speeds and too high at high speeds.
super good
Haha I love that you cab hijack the chopper (spoiler) overal great as always but i did miss a lot of sound effects :(
A lot of good effort went into the graphics, especially in the boo.. i mean interface :)
Getting send to another level upon dying is my favorite part, quite clever. The SFX are mostly nice n crunchy, but missed music a lot... controls are tight and the shooting feel pretty good for a low res game due to the muzzle flash and the kickback.
Kind of a shame that you made such nice models for the champions and that you only get to see them as really tiny figures in-game :(
Oh man this was insane. I had some trouble finding the last gem, but oh well that's metroidvanias I suppose. I guess the end was a bit of an anti-climax, but it doesn't matter because the road to it was so sick. It was the perfect use of the theme imo. I think you might win this LD!
Love the diversity of the game, like the changing lava spots and the two different soundtracks. Really adds up to the replay value as every run feels different!
Also liked the design of the blobs, which don't appear very dangerous at first, but will crowd the screen in no time and obstruct your bullets' reach.
Very nifty
Made me feel a bit scared. So that makes you score high on mood haha. Btw I like figuring out the puzzle, but the flight scene takes too long imo so bad choices are really punishing...
Wow there is so much to focus on. It's hectic, but also delivers a bunch of meaningful choices to be made. Although it might be a little too much at some points. Could also be me sucking at it... :p
So aesthetically pleasing! The mood is super mellow and along with the supposed story creates a feeling of melancholy which makes me fall in love with this beautiful dreamy experience.
Very charming :)
Whoop made it to insane highscores! This is very polished! simple idea, well executed. A bit Super Hexagon? ;)
Not the first to say this, but wow, powerpoint? Ididn't even know you could do interactive presentations with it! Very very original idea :D
Super cool, love that you have to anticipate on the different styles!
hah, nice interpretation of the theme
I feel like I'm missing some things. I pick up all these items but have no clue on how to use them. I saw in the screenshot that there should be an on/off button and a bag in the top right corner, but both or missing in the web version I played : / So I'm not gonna rate it since I think I didn't get to see the whole game.
Really nice visual story. Feels polished and coherent!
Like the use of colour. But yeah, agreeing with the previous comments.
This is best thing I've played so far. Every aspect seems executed so good and all fits together perfectly! I love the take on the theme and I think that you have to exit in order to win as opposed to just getting a certain amounts of hits is so clever as it feels like you can actually claim your win instead of just winning. Which adds a lot to the feel of it. Amazing!
Very well polished in every aspect, but it's so unforgiving D:
Okay so, first of all the music and sound effects are just fucking great. Love. It.
Then the thing is disliked the most what that the range of your guitar was so sooo short that I found it to be really really hard to hit the skellies. But oh well I did get the hang of out after some time. Another issue I had is a bit unfair, but there seem to be a lot of dev-related hotkeys i think :p for example pressing the right mouse button spawned more skellies O.o and at some point I think i accidentally pressen a button that respawned every monster... So I died a lot, which would be fine i suppose except that if you die - aside from the super cool end screen with the sublime guitar which I listened to for about 10 minutes lol - the game didn't restart for me. Even after a desperate attempt at effectively moving of my hand on the keyboard to hit all keys. So I had to shut down and restart.
So yeah of course this is all meta stuff, but it did became a bit tedious because I died a lot, sometimes due to accidentally pressing hotkeys, and then I had to shut down and restart, see the intro again.
So much for dislikes! Still want to make sure that you know I think the game is wonderful, audio superb, graphics super neat. Love the mechanic of transforming and gives a short-term reward for the main-mechanic (killing baddies) whichs adds up very well to the fun of it all!
I feel like the game is a bit too static. You could make some more feedback visually. And obviously some audio, but I don't wanna criticize on that. I did really like the animations, especially of the main character. And the main mechanic of throwing your limbs was clever and fun :)
So glad to see it finished :) It's amazing work, even if you think it's not what you wanted it to be. Dude you have some real talent!
Love the mechanics/use of the theme and i also love the graphics. Those little animations are so fucking coooool!
Suck on it Alex, I beat you and sheep. But for real, this is amazing! I love that you have basically made a new genre and keep iterating on it. This feels so new and fresh and it's also executed superbly. It's not just some gimmick, I mean you also have that you can't see how much health you have left, so have to make this choice between turning into a trap or continuing with the chance of dying and not being able to set a trap anymore. I love this choice it's so meaningful to me! The art and music obviously come well so together too, I don't have much to say on that part.
But then I'm not to fond of the level design. I feel like that there are some different paths you can choose from, but they will always come back to the same choke point. This way the game becomes a bit of a tug-of-war and leaves less room for tactics. There are still plenty of ways to outsmart your opponent(s), but I still fell like this is a missed opportunity.
Anyway, cheers, you made something awesome and I had a fun weekend listening to your accent on skype lol.
The type of game really suits your nickname hah. Although it's not really a game. But that's not a bad thing! It's more of an interactive experience and that's cool too. However I think that for an interactive experience you should amplify it more with visuals and sounds. The use of what I assume are shaders is great, but there is quite a lack of diversity in the graphics overall. I like the ambient sound, but in that too; I miss more audio. Sounds for shooting energy and moving would add so much to this.
Moving to the edge and looking back to see the whole system was breathtaking and I liked the movement pace. Not too slow, not too fast.
Alright, I finally managed to finish all of the levels. Holy shit there are a lot of levels. But tbh I feel like you would've been better off with less, better levels. The first 10-ish levels are all somewhat the same and the story kept me playing. After that the game finally gets harder, but eventually hits you in the nuts with it. Damn duude that last level was so freakishly hard. Now this shouldn't be a bad thing per se, but the somehow I wasn't blaming myself for my failures. The controls are kind of quirky because you accelerate fast horizontally but your gravity is really slow. Plus the friction is way different while holding the ball so you suddendly can't anticipate your jumps anymore. The thing I disliked the most was the ball throwing dynamics. Half of the time I was throwing it in a different direction than I was trying to. So that really felt like it was the games fault instead of my own.
Other thing I'd like to say is that I didn't really connected with the character. That may sound stupid, but what I mean to say is that in games it's really nice to feel intrinsically motivated to achieve a certain goal. But I never really had a purpose in the game other then trying to get to another super hard level, throwing the ball in the pit all the time. The "thingies" you have to gather had no meaning to me and so I wasn't motivated emotionally to gather them. The ball was just a tool to me and the ultimate goal was unclear to me. Where am I going? Why am I going there wherever "there" is.
I had trouble using Z/X/C to do stuff and I wonder if you could've made the controls more intuitive.
Okay thus far for the bad stuff, I hope I'm not being to harsh, because I still really like your stuff a lot.
I like that in a lot of levels there are more "thingies" you need to gather than the needed amount. This gives the player a meaningful choice to make of which route to take, to assess the situation and explore more as opposed to just linearly follow a level's design.
As always you have stunning innovative visuals everywhere. I must say I'm not too fond of the black/white low res art-style, but the gausian blur at the edges of the light and the light effect itself make up for it.
Took me a long time to write this, gonna stop now, I hope I was able to give some decent feedback. I love your stuff, keep it up!
Haha this is cool. Nice palette and plot twist. Way to use the theme to make a statement :P
Love ur style brooo, it's so unique <3
Hah, neat mechanic! Really makes shmups interesting again!
I think this one is really really interesting to talk about. I'm not sure where to begin. A few (small) things I wanna say are that I loved the music and what the heck, there is an ending mini-game!? hah".
I want to say a thing about the visuals too, 'cause I think it's very inconsistent. the demons, the head and the background/wavelines all seem to be of different styles.
But what's so interesting is that of all the rhythm games I've player the is the first one where I really felt like I was jamming with the music itself. As opposed to something like guitar hero, where it feels like you're just punching buttons on the right moment in the right order. Some might say that's the same, but it's not. There a huge barriere in there that's not there in this game. And that's what's so great. I don't know how you achieved it and it even might be a misconception of me for using headphones.
Another thing about this that is intersting is obviously the discussion of whether it should have following lines or something like that. I mean, maybe it does, because on my first try of the first song I got 30 mistakes and the second try had me making only 3 mistakes. But when you add the following lines I think it also breaks the immersion of you with the music, which I praised a few lines before. I think that there might be a solution somewhere in between. To guide the player in knowing when a note/demon will have to be pressed without using a cheap solution like following lines. Maybe if the demons that are slightly of rhythm should wobble/bounce in reverse, idk.
Great work!
The pixelart is really good. I think that is the most notable thing about the game. Although I didn't like the game itself. You get waaay to little EXP. Basically you're giving the player a reason to replay the same part for about 5-10 times so the dynamics get slightly better and then you can finally see the next part. This feels like a chore. Why would you hide game content until a very repeating and tedious job has been done by the player? Then there is the shooting. I like the idea that the shooting pattern is a bit odd. That adds depth to it. However I noticed that you have to hold Z or P to shoot. Tapping doesn't do anyting and not holding down the button AKA not shooting has value either. Why would you even make a button for it then? I don't get it.
I like the the pattern of the first mushroom enemy and the hand. Loved that hand. The other enemies had way too much health and not a very interesting movement pattern. The animations are good for as far as they are present. You could add a lot more visual feedback and the HUD felt a bit unpolished! Might sound a bit negative but I was hoping to give some constructive feedback.
Other than that, well done! It's not easy to make something in 48h :)
Love the vector art, it's really something else. Audio is crazy cool and the mood is intense! Tho I wished the goal would have been a bit more obvious!
My highscore was about 350. I think you might need a bit more time at the beginning to set things up. I also got fucked up at the very start by some laser firing douchebag because I saw him too late. Still Very enjoyed it a lot, played it for about an hour haha. That explosion sound is stuck in my head...
I think the maze is way too big, Gorgon could anyway where and a few times when I was almost there some fking beast would kill me. I did get the hang of wiping the floor with those blue bastards and eventually I figured that they add a good danger sense to the maze. They are easy to one-shot, but when you get hit you gotta starting searching all over again. So that's kind of a good thing. I think Gorgon itself was super neat. The way you had to battle her(/him?) was cool, the purple petrified rats created a little forecast and in that way added a lot of suspense to the battle, like "OOOH SHIT PURPLE RATS HERE IT COMES FFFFF" - and then you close your eyes. I think closes your eyes need more feedback. Itreally disconnects from the tension you had before. Maybe that's normal for closing your eyes, but I don't think so. As a matter of fact, the whole game could use more sound effects/music/ambient and tons of visual feedback.
Well, that's about it, enjoyed it, got to kill Gorgon, I'm happy :)
hahahahaha
Came in last haha. Had a lot of fun listening to all the songs :)
Great game with lots of cool content! Fights were interesting and daring. and I loved all the different animals.
Didn't like the sounds so much. And I felt like it needed a lot more balancing. Some enemies were waaay harder but seemed to have the same chance to spawn. And maybe it's just me, but I'd pick the speed/time upgrades over the carrot anytime :p And try adding some more (visual) feedback next time!
Btw your pixels seemed stretched sometimes. If you're using pixelart/low res, try scaling with equal round numbers! You can then just put black borders or whatever on the remaining areas.
Hey Will, your game looks fantastic and I didn't expect any less from you! However, I glitched a bit too often through floors and blocks making the gameplay a bit messy. There isn't really any reason to pick up all the coins (just a little end score thing when you finished the game would already help) and the timer didn't do much too I think? Why is it there? I was a bit confused by the amount of controls too, I know that sounds silly but let me explain. You use the arrow keys and Z and X and you can walk, jump, pick-up and throw stuff. Why did you choose to use 6 buttons for just 4 actions? I mean, you could've set jump on up arrow key and pick-up on down arrow key. Now throwing with down maybe would be a bit weird, maybe one other key then :p Anyways I only found out about picking-up/throwing after a few minutes because I read the controls here on the page to make sure. I didn't really felt intuitive to me.
Okay so, that was a bit of critique, but I still think you did a realy good job :)
Cutest game on Ludum Dare 33 period
Physics is super sick, The whole thing looks great and I particularly love the sound effects.
RIP ramen :(
Hey Daan thanks dat we je game mochten spelen tijdens IndieKings. "Super grote scope man voor zo'n game jam game!" > Emiel Kampen (Die met dat gekke staartje)
My girlfriend really likes the kittens! Your games keep getting better :)
Pretty solid game, especially for pico8, but the gameplay was a bit too straight forward to me. Although that might be my own incompetence..
So many particles! It became it bit chaotic at some point..
This is great! Especially the humor, art and awesome music. Only thing I disliked was that I had to do everything all over again when I retried. And I did that a lot because I wanted to see all the conversations :) But as a result the replayability is really bad.. Otherwise totally loved it!
The puzzle mechanics are great, especially the long jump adds quite a lot! I figured out using long jumps when jumpin down a level to reach certain enemies on the head way late haha.
Sick inverse kinematics
GG 10/10 Music is super awesome, love the typeface yo
.................................................................................................................................................................................
Great colors, gfx, cute sound effects and pretty fun base mechanics make this a really good game :) Really reminds me a lot of Snakebird, do you know it? Otherwise you should def try it out! Contentwise it's a bit short I suppose. That's my main critique. Especially because the game is relatively easy and straight forward. Maybe a good puzzle or interesting (boss)fight would've changed that? I also want to mention that, although unsignificant, the camera panning seemed very fitting to me. I noticed it at some point and thought that it's really good as it both lerps and advances in the direction you last pressed (I think).
Anyways, good work!
Could use some more visual effects! Btw you should always adjust to screen size, it's too large for my poor lil computer :(
I was more handsome as a wolf...
Liked the mechanics. The health being a Moon Life thing was cool, that made sense. Thought that the bosses were nice little action puzzles too! Also think that the level design is a bit easy and could've used some more depth to it and it also feel like you could have made more use of the fact that you're stronger when your moon bar is full. Maybe even better attacks when it's more full? I thought the idea was cool, but I never had a moment in which I felt more/less powerfull due to the state of my moon bar...
Anyways nice work
Obviously funny, I didn't get all of them tho. Found out that pressing <X> let's me fail anyways. Maybe because I'm not supposed to skip? So it mentions the fault in me cheating the game? That would be pretty cool haha.
Wowie interactive art :O It's beautiful <3
Killed nobody psshhh.
Fun, it's a bit slow and there isn't much happening in the background and stuff. Would change that. Btw Carewolf is a really funny take on the theme dude :P You should've made a theme song. He's a wolf, yet he cares ♫
588 points! This is really really good, in the 9 ludum dares I have participated in I have rarely seen something so original and well executed.
Best theme adaption if you ask me.
The gameplay is really overwhelming and hard to figure out. Also a bit too slow-paced (I get that you can set the pace yourself) because it took me so long to make a good connection, eventually actually not getting a good connection... Had a 100% one time though, but most of my sollutions only had less than 50%
Other than that the graphics are of absolutely outstanding quality, super fun take on the theme and the audio is really nice as well :)
Nice little game. Very polished, except for the audio (the sounds are annoying to me :S) and there isn't really anything that really stands out. Maybe the old retro tv screen shader, that's pretty cool.
Looks super good and loved the audio! Plus a really original take on the theme, had a lot of fun :)
That's a lovely totem. Game felt really adorable, however there isn't much to do, so I didn't play a lot of it! I think the game mostly thrives in graphics and audio.
Wow this must be the best theme implementation this time around! super well executed :) gameplay is a bit stale and gimmicky, but that's understandable looking at the polish.
Will!!! This is such a good game!! You captured Ojiro's style so well, yet the game has its own mechanic that works great. After I got the hang of it, it became a bit easy as there isn't a lot of content I think? But the polish is abundant and the soundtrack is absolutely stunninggg. (DOWN)WELL DONE YO hah~
oooooo very eerie!
Audio is supernice! Especially like the snowman voice :) The game itself is great, fun, nice intepretation of the theme(s) and neatly presented. Would've liked to see more combinations and I feel like I'm looking too much at the snowball-bar. Otherwise good job ^^
haha that naaasty sound! some cool platformer stuff you got there. Really liked that there are plenty of respawn points like ditto mentioned. And the mechanic works pretty good!
It... gets really hard after a short while! At some point a bit unfair maybe? The game is very adorable, only thing I mis is a penguin and better bunny sounds ^^
If you press 'Quit' it just starts the game again! :D
sick entry. Feels super complete. Thought at first the growing beard to be a bit of a gimmick but it turned into a clever mechanic later on!
Found the secret ending! This was really hard...
Gast ik heb het echt zo'n 10 keer geprobeerd maar ik ga de hele tijd dood in de eerste 5 minuten ofzo. Wat ik ook probeer D: het is fucking moeilijk!!
Yooo, this game is sweet af, the controls are so clever! Some sick level design with really cool jumps. It's basically a hard platformer, but really slow-paced, so you don't have to react as fast, which is nice. The only thing I really struggled with was figuring out the spider jumps. Audio was really suiting too, though the death sound is kinda cringing :p Should probably mention the boss fight too, since it suddendly made the controls a lot more interesting (more left/right)
cool game
sick
It's like mario, but better!
Check out this brand new game by Rubna, the boy genius behind classics such as Noodle Ramen and Lisa. The game feel is just soo.. THERE! It's almost like I can't believe you made it in just 48 hours!
And with the amazingly clever level design you put out there, this game will more than fill the gap on my desktop, that was once reserved a game called Boxfriends.
"A title worth comparing to Samurai Gunn but more child-friendly" - Some guy
Kore game "wamu wamu" to yobu wa honto ni subarashi datta ne! Yoku ganbattane!
lekker
kind sirr this is good very aoudio woow very well job, proc animations are like woow very well job as well!!!! pleased to meet dis gaem sir
SUGOI
Sumimasen! Anta no game wa suparu naisu~
Very moody. I like that the last door went to the website. Cool pictures on there. Bye.
Tried to fly op the cupboard. Got onto the ventilation hood thing.
amazing!
rip corgi :(
@aaaleee no sorry, kinda hard to do with gamemaker :/
Sorry will post the source asap!
Seems really cool, but I have no idea how/where to download it haha...
8m 34s! Beat that, other commenters.
Wow this looks really nice.
Nice take on the theme. Liked the screaming.
Really really good. Animations/gameplay/audio all on such a high level of quality and polish. Especially liked the audio. Eventually got past 30sec mark, but at that point the room became 2 tile high which was basically impossible. There were a few more moments that felt super unfair/impossible, but I can imagine it's hard to get that out.
Cool!
Wow super cool! I like systems.
Tried figuring out the best strategy, got around $2000 and thought that was good.
Then saw here in the comments this guy that got $6000.
That got me dedicated.
So I got....
$8774!!!!!
But it was by just making bread machines :( Which is such a shame.
Are the bread machines TOO good? What's your highscore?
Loved the graph at the end btw :) I think graphs make people happy.
Pretty old skool fun. Played multiple times, but it got really hard after pizza men started to spawn, so I didn't get a lot further each time. I think the enemies could use more interesting movement behaviour!
cool use of the theme, although i found myself just resetting the game -> pick a different level -> enabling all skills... Art is really good, i especially like the explosion fx, so niceee. The sound gets annoying FAST, I'd recommend randomly offsetting the pitch or make different iterations of the same sound. adding music would also help of course, but that's a lot more work.
I WANT TO UPGRADE MY CRITTER PLEASE D':
i tried to fix that factory a few times by i kept getting surprise bashed by assholes in cars that keep driving after committing a felony. the fuckers. some landmarks could help with the navigation, cus you know after getting hit i was so disorientated and stressed out - blood everywhere - i cried... found a white box ("nice!") and then the factory died. rip
very bare; the puzzles are either too simple or hard with nothing really that engages the player's intelligence. Maybe some more depth on top of the main mechanic could make it a lot more interesting?
Nice little game. I like that the timing is balanced in a very good way. You can tell you put effort in making that right. Surprised you didn't make the challenges differ game play-wise!
