LD28 — You Only Get One

The Poncho Duelers by midgard 2013-12-16T17:59:00

Haha.. The screaming was a little too loud, But it was funny, so I'll give you that.

I enjoyed the game, fun little concept, perhaps a little too easy early on, but I guess you have to teach people how it works too :)
Good job.

Diamond Warning by canary40 2013-12-16T19:44:00

Well. It was decent fun to play, but I can't really give you much for graphics :P
Good and responsive controls though, decent effects :)

Space Wreck by primaerfunktion 2013-12-16T00:17:00

Love it!
I really enjoyed the frantic back and forth gameplay, though the whole thing feels like as a player I only make things worse.

Where does "You only get one" come in here?

FowL Play by Sakuyan 2013-12-17T00:15:00

I felt a little bit of delay in how it played out, may have just been due to playing it in the web version..
But a cool game you've made here, I enjoyed your journals during the event.

Perfect Christmas by agmcleod 2013-12-16T23:59:00

The idea and sentiment are great, Not sure how it comes into the theme - But hey you got a finished product out in 48 hours :)
As someone mentions, the fact that you can sit in the middle lane all the way is perhaps a gameplay issue, try forcing some action out of the player next time ;)

One Pilot by alexis.pautrot 2013-12-16T12:19:00

Controls with an xbox pad, Unable to run it =/

Get or Avoid by KWL_TW 2013-12-16T13:52:00

I think my biggest gripe with games that have music is when it autoplays and loops without a mute or volume option, and sadly that draws this down.

I like the zoom on death, and the concept I suppose is quite sound at it's core. I also suspect you did some similar variety of score calculation as I did in one of my earliest flash games, what with the decimal points ;)

Tank Blast by asimilon 2013-12-16T17:44:00

It actually feels a lot like the games they made off the success of Scorched earth when they tried to make the 3d version. So I suppose in that sense you have created a tank game more or less like the way that the game makers did it back then.

It is a little clunky to play though, as you don't really know where the enemy is, and your camera angle feels awkward. But it's well executed, and plays without a hitch.

The Wizardry of Differentiation by mortus 2013-12-16T14:49:00

Quite liked it. Had some problems with lag that might have to do with optimizations, but it was very creative and really got my interest. Crafting spells is a great mechanic.

My one critique is the lack of a volume slider. Otherwise great.

alONE by Christopher Schulte 2013-12-17T00:21:00

Interesting. Glad people are making games like these aswell. I almost wish the topic of loneliness could be tackled in an event that was not so limiting in theme :)

YOLO, Obviously by carlsommer 2013-12-16T14:42:00

I feel like what you've tried to make here is interesting, a life-choices CYOA can be quite a good type of game.
On the other hand I feel like the game advances awfully fast, and the implied morality that was thrust upon me when I chose a non-religious path seemed a bit over the top.

Admittedly it made me giggle, because it just seemed so incredibly out of nowhere. I mean, Suddenly Jesus and quite a few very heteronormative choices along the way. The initial paths also didn't match up with anything I would've actually done as a person.
It's functional though, nothing broke, and completing the game took me back to the beginning as it should've.

Good job on getting the content in during the dare.

One Sky by Kep 2013-12-16T14:11:00

It reminds me a lot of Reus. Admittedly I didn't quite understand what I was supposed to do initially, and didn't realise there were buildings on the opposite side of the globe! But I made a nice little forest, made it grow quite big and then decided to see what happens when you lose.
Sadly nothing really happened :(

It's very interesting though, the idea of only getting one earth and not wasting it is also quite topical for our age.
Thanks for the experience.

One Eye by kcpunk666 2013-12-16T15:54:00

The graphics are neat, the music and the visuals work together to create a great mood. I did not like the platforming mechanics however. It feels a little too floaty, And I have always preferred responsive controls in these kinds of platformers.
It's a functional and very playable game though, good job :)

Leap of Faith by Lustdante 2013-12-16T13:04:00

I really like your sprite for the Boss thing, I think most of the "fight" mechanics are pretty good, But the "Jump off ladder and get back on" mechanic feels more like a "Well shit that kind of works" Than an actual action.. It's incredibly clumsy and just became frustrating when it didn't work for the fifth time.

Overall I am impressed though, you have music, you have a storyline and you have a generally good game concept - The only thing I would've liked would be some more polished mechanic to avoid the missile going right down the ladder.

Evosea by disdanes 2013-12-16T16:14:00

Well it made me laugh. It really made me laugh. I am an anime starfish, I must destroy the other fauna of my habitat to evolve into a turtle! I don't think evolution quite works like that, but fun concept.

The fighting mechanic could use some more player feedback, I wasn't sure if I was hitting them, or them me, so I just ran at them and span like a Ninja starfish.
Gave me a few good laughs, Thanks!

One Pixel Games by plancien 2013-12-16T13:23:00

Heh. The only drawback I can think of is the lack of a volume slider. Otherwise this was interesting.

One Click Headshot by voltorben 2013-12-16T19:18:00

I really liked it! Functional assassination game with simple instructions.
One issue is that when you say fourth floor, I think of your third floor. Because I count from 1.

The mouse controls feel a little too sluggish aswell, I guess it is implied "Looking through scope" sluggishness, but it just felt a little too inaccurate.

Still a very fun game.

The oil eater by xrm0 2013-12-16T19:00:00

Never before have I crammed so much oil down the throat of a child.

The one critique I have is that the viewport of the game feels a little slim, and it's not that it takes away from gameplay directly. But you lose a lot of the sensation of depth with the Kid always being a relative distance away.

Not sure how to fix that, But it might be something to keep in mind when doing diggy games.
Fun to play :)

One Earth, One Defender by Mental Atrophy 2013-12-16T13:49:00

I think the major drawback for me with this game is the audio, Even setting my mixer to 12% for it, it was still repetitive and painfull.

That said! The game is fun, genuinely fun. I like flying around shooting at asteroids and waiting for that money to tick up so I can buy more satelites. At some point my gun upgraded and I do not quite understand why - So my criticism there would be that perhaps some gun-shop or other way of informing the player would be good.

But it was fun, and it looks kind of gorgeous for what it is.

Ludum dare 48 by bufbot 2013-12-16T12:14:00

Got it running, but managed to pick up a letter laying on the ground, which instantly allowed me to clip through the entire level.. My companion also got stuck. I like the pathfinding for the companion though, It's clear you made some effort there; Though sadly it gets stuck a bit still on the corners of tiles.

One Minute To War by squibbons 2013-12-16T18:52:00

Well I got through a few levels. Though on one or two the code spawned inside of the text already on the paper, which added a readability difficulty to the game :P

I don't quite understand why you get more instructions as the game progresses though. I got consistently more papers that explained the things I had just had to work out in order to advance in levels..

But the game has potential, a sort of Nuclear Papers please :)

One Match by Tanner 2013-12-16T15:38:00

Nothing is loading for me, Will defer from rating due to that.

The ruling party by kristoffer zetterberg 2013-12-16T13:18:00

Hm. I am a little conflicted, in a way the opening made me pay less attention to the game, due to it's repetition, and this may have made me instinctively pay less attention to the rest of the game once it actually progressed the story.

I think I would've liked more choice, and I guess the whole point here is "Have your cake and eat it too" so choosing only one eventuality makes sense..
But it felt a little like a story that had more depth than I was allowed to understand through the text, though as I mentioned this may have been due to the beginning, which almost made it seem bugged :P
That might be a danger in a ludum dare, submitting something that could be construed as bugged..

Our Story by CarlsonAndPeeters 2013-12-16T23:51:00

Fun little game, mechanically very sound. I like your fire animation :)

Music gets a teensy bit repetitive, but by far the best repeating music I have come across.

Bounty hunting by vallde 2013-12-16T20:39:00

Fun little game. I didn't initially realise I could move, because I clicked through all the initial menus with one shot. which also shot my bullet.. So I sat static until my bullet got stuck, then learnt I could move!

Was interesting. has almost a bullet hell appeal.

Save Zoe by Lorenzo MaierĂº 2013-12-16T16:06:00

I actually like the story quite a lot. The ending scene was powerful in it's own little way for me. But I have always been the type to be sentimental about my teddybear.

Mechanically I think it is a very sound game. It doesn't have many mechanics of course, but what it has is very polished, the animations are nice, and the storyboard sequence in the beginning is a nice touch.
I would like a volume slider or a mute button though, as with many LD games the volume is default quite loud.

Handle with care by Cawrtz 2013-12-16T20:05:00

I quite like it, very difficult. I feel like the jump is a separate action to moving though Because the speed is different, it feels faster and more efficient to jump..
Completely playable of course, but that put my jumps off a few times as I didn't expect it.

Love the graphics, like the theme, But I didn't get any audio, the audio mute button leads me to think there should've been.

CROSSBORE by (Not) Ivano 2013-12-16T14:56:00

I think I may have had more problems with the game than others, going by the comments, It looked a little blurry, which may be due to the web version, and the sound was deafening when I fired the crossbow.
It looks like a neat little game though with consistent design and thematic gameplay.

GRAIL by pLaw 2013-12-16T16:27:00

Art is great for this, sounds get a little loud and repetitive, But it helps set the mood somewhat.
I think game mechanics wise, it gets annoying having to restart so far back every time, as it does require trial and error.
But it is a decent game, And honestly a great concept, brings me right back to the old Prince of persia games.

You Only Get One Minute to Find your Crew by Bardek 2013-12-16T12:25:00

The game runs quite well, I had some problems understanding that the red rays were lasers however, as the first time through they didn't kill me; and I assumed they were some control mechanism for the red doors..
I obviously died testing that theory. Other than that, I did not realise the large green objects were my crew, and the distance counter disappears after a little while.. Perhaps related with being close to the crew?

I liked it though, it's a functional game, even if the games systems are not inherently obvious. The procedurally generated nature of it also adds to the gameplay potential.

The TORPEDO by windwalkerranger 2013-12-16T13:34:00

I'm impressed by how complex you have attempted to make this, and by all accounts it seems to work as intended aswell, so good job!

I feel like the launch sequence is a little confusing though, it took me two launches to learn that I have to click next to issue the orders, and with little reference other than "winging it" it quickly became a little frustrating to have to go through the whole sequence in the tutorial again and again.

Other than that I think it's a great idea. And possibly the best take on the theme I have seen yet.

Seedling by Spacefarmer 2013-12-16T15:28:00

Hm. I think the issue with the game is a lack of feedback to the player. when I was doing the rain dance I didn't see any rain, so I thought it was broken.
Then suddenly the tree grew, and I figured it worked afterall, called on the sun to test that.
Sun did nothing, so again I called rain. And then I lost the game. :(

I love the idea, It's got a populous sort of appeal, god game trying to get your groove on and grow a world tree type deal. But Yeah, feedback to players is important.

Get One with Math by Lukasinho 2013-12-16T15:12:00

I like it. The controls definitely need tweaking though, I suspect the creator has an incredibly low mouse sensitivity. As I started the game I instantly died; After adjusting sensitivity to barely anything it was playable however!

And I learnt how shitty I am at math under pressure. But it worked just fine. Good game.

One Fall by lantto 2013-12-16T15:41:00

Looks like noone has rated, and yet so many scores on that board, for shame!
I love the game though, I actually passed over this idea in making my own (And decided I did not have the technical knowledge!)
So it's awesome to see someone implement it. You have made a game that might be "unfair", but it is redeemed entirely by the fact that you can watch others play in replays.
Thanks for that.

28' q7204k by q7204k 2013-12-16T15:17:00

I like the idea, But mechanically speaking I think it adds too much frustration to make for good gameplay. It becomes a game about remembering where you died last, rather than using the match tactically, and every level requires a few restarts.

Very well executed though, and it looks pretty.

Park King by Chris Mondok 2013-12-16T15:01:00

Um.. I can't get past the tutorial. I am not quite sure when you want me to have cars parked and when you want them to leave. This is in part due to not being used to AM/PM and clockfaces to tell time (24 hour clocks here)
But also because I can't quite understand game mechanically how to make it "Parked" and whether there is any penalty from just keeping it on the "leaving" part.
Even when it was on the "Leaving" part of the map though it still said "Car left in lot" and just stopped.

Papaya by Tsumei 2013-12-16T13:35:00

Haha, Mental Atrophy! Yeah, that's why the half eaten end is not as judgmental, It's just confused. I realised later that it was probably due to the similarities with the logo; But it is hard to represent a papaya without seeing it's insides!

Papaya by Tsumei 2013-12-16T18:55:00

Yes. I added a global variable that gives you some wiggle room. Aswell as Plums to give you more wiggleroom, as the goal of the game is to get you to the end :)

Papaya by Tsumei 2013-12-16T23:38:00

Thank you! And thanks to everyone who writes a little message, I really appreciate it as this is my first Ludum Dare^^

Can you hear me? by Jago 2013-12-16T19:58:00

Not loading for me at all sadly :( But I was trying to load it in Opera, so may be the reason.

One Life Only by Gear 2013-12-16T13:59:00

Great little game. Again though I come across the issue of my audio mixer being set to roughly 50% - and the people who live with me going "What the fuck is that?" Due to the loudness of everything.
I like the art, and the gameplay definitely comes together quite well.

WaterColor by fierysquirrel 2013-12-16T14:28:00

I like it. After a few failed jumps I could intuitively guess my way to the mechanics. It is also quite difficult, which is neat.
One big negative though is that while the music is nice, at 1% in my audio mixer it was still a tiny bit loud for me. Since I usually keep it at 50% It blew my ears out the first time I started the game.

Holiday Chopper Frenzy by mcgraw 2013-12-16T16:10:00

Audio is a little too repetitive, it sets the mood properly, but it gets too repetitious. I like the animation on the chain, but feel like the chain invites an expectation in the player; I thought the trees would fling as it does, and once you realise it doesn't I think the game becomes much easier.
Fun little functional game though.

One World by supremefist 2013-12-16T16:00:00

It's interesting that I have seen three takes on "You only get one earth" and that none of them have been the same at all. I was reminded briefly of Street fighter? Where you pick your opponents from various nations with their stats next to them. Europe is damn strong it turns out. They killed my arse.

You only get one COLOUR by soy_yuma 2013-12-16T20:27:00

Quite fun, could have benefited from a few frames of animation, but the level desing is clearly the focus here, and it is very neat. I also enjoyed the sounds it makes when you change levels :)

clic only by nicso 2013-12-16T15:22:00

I LOVE you for having an audio on/off Button. After approximately 17 critiques and plenty that tried to destroy my speakers. Just. So many hugs to you.

As for the game. I completely misunderstood the "click to change direction" and initially thought the game was bugged. Once I realised I had to click more times it worked great though, and is really polished and well made :)
