great work with the artstyle but to difficult.

great work with the artstyle but to difficult.
genius.
awesome art! and that break room is just an amazing idea! had a problem with the weird controls at first, or maybe the whole way, but i figured i could just fire at all times and focus on the jumping and with that it worked fine. and sometimes it's hard to tell were the platforms are, so i thought at first that there was no way to get past that knight. otherwise, fun and polished game.
fantastic entry! the "introduction" was a little long but the learning curve was great, and i'm amazed at how much you've managed to make in such a short time. the music is fantastic also, played through the whole game and never got tired of it. very atmospheric.
very polished game with good gameplay. great art and level design. my only problem is that i have some difficulties timing the dashes with the jumping.
good idea, and nicely designed. gameplay works great most of the time! great graphics and music too!
such great music! excellent executed concept!
such a wonderful game.
masterfully done. the concept and execution makes this one of the finest puzzle games i've played in a long time.
those graphics and the art style is phenomenal! sound is also very good, and the gameplay has a very interesting concept. would love to see this game get expanded on.
so, most of you think it's too fast - for me it's too slow, but that's my computer's fault. it looks great though!
i knew you couldn't eat that cute puppy and get away with it! nice game.
everything is awesome. except maybe that i can't figure out what the logic behind the sumo wrestler case was.
interesting experience. the use of the timer is actually very good despite making you feel like you must hurry on with the reading, and not stop to think for a sec. and i think the random bonus time add to this, it makes you more alert of what's actually happening. good work.
a little overwhelming at first -- and always very hectic -- but that's part of the feeling, and it fits the theme nicely. interesting, good writing and atmosphere.
great graphics, and was that some danish i read there? "ja, en stige".
promising gameplay, i look forward to the 10 levels version.
amazing narrative! played it over and over and found the storytelling very well made. perhaps that the ending often felt like it was a little abrupt, and i wish the screen was wider, because i sometimes couldn't read all the text when i finished the sentences, but that's about all the criticism a have. great work!
such a cute and polished little gem.
love the colors, design, sounds and the almost bullet-hell like aesthetics towards the end. yeah the music too.
beautiful. especially like the music and atmosphere; the fading light and falling snow are very well made and match perfectly with each other. fitting title too.
it's a good concept and the way they evolve are sometimes really funny, though i don't really like the mechanics of not being able to control the "character" in any other way than jumping, especially when the screen randomly scrolls faster and the jumping isn't really precise.
really innovative and very polished! good looking too, and very challenging. that feeling of slowly memorising the whole stage is great, and the fact that you made so that all abilities comes in the order you used them when you restart is perfect, really helps a lot and prevents it from being frustrating. great work!
this is amazing, i really look forward to see more of this!
amazing and innovative puzzles, great graphics, and that gentle music in the background was really good for the atmosphere. good work!
solid gameplay, beautiful presentation!
stunning visuals and solid gameplay but to easy and repetitive.
good graphics, especially the lightning effects. very hard thought, and in a lot of cases that just has to do with the mechanics, for example: when you walk toward and reach a wall, and hold down the button, the "character" stops but time goes on ticking. and it's really difficult to get into narrow pathways, most of the time it seems like i may have missed it by a millimetre, and so tries to fix this but of course get hit by some dart instead.
i had fun though, it's a very good concept.
great work, very polished, and there's some very clever game design here; for example, i love it that when time runs out you just don't die, instead you can see the water coming after you as you run for the exit.
the music, graphic style and level design is also very good.
original and complex.
laughed so much! the ending is hilarious!
Couldn't play for long, for to reasons. 1. My computer gets overheated fast with a game this advanced. 2. The atmosphere, more so than the enemies, scare me so much a can barely open a door. This is of course a good thing.
Plus: great voice acting, opening and i love the games title.
promising. i like the graphic style.
great artstyle!
funny, cute and the ending is perfect!
great artistic style and music. really like the color palette. to bad i suck on these kind on games, would really like to see the game world get expanded in some game where i didn't have to worry about time-limit.
love the aesthetics, the setting and the way you made me feel small and vulnerable. good implemented writing too.
better cook in real life but whatever, had a fun time!
haha, nice. great ending, and i like the music.
wonderful story and artstyle! i'm having some problems with the controls and collisions like others have pointed out, and i think in was the third stage that was a lot harder then the ones that came after it, but otherwise good difficulty curve.
and i'm absolutely loving the atmosphere and music!
gripping, haunting, powerful. gameplay, visuals, sounds -- everything fits perfectly together. great game!
fantastic graphics, sound and concept, but it gets a little tedious having to restart the game over and over as this takes a while.
what an intense experience. impressive and highly innovative.
great atmosphere, very creepy. got stuck on the fourth night but you comment on the site helped me get to the end.
you could really expand on this, but there would be great to have some way of knowing what's up and down. so maybe something to help you distinguish the ground and sky.
the concept and execution is very well done; the graphics, sound, constant running and buying things along the way really makes this feel like a little journey -- you've managed to make it fit the theme and also made all the different components of the game fit well together. good work!
good writing and story, though i'm pretty worthless at text adventures of this kind and found it hard to figure out which verbs to use when. would have liked to have some kind of hint-system or something to help.
anyway, good work, and very creative solutions.
this was fun! i really enjoyed going from nothing to being able to survive almost anything.
great graphics and difficulty curve. clever puzzles. that last one with the invisible platforms got me though.
looks really good and seems interesting, but it's so hard to control.
great writing and visuals! really impressive, it's only the ending that i didn't quiet like, but overall a good story and interesting setting. nice use of the timer to, simple but effective.
funny game, and good work with the graphics, but my short fingers can't manage that stage with the Z and P. and it feels a little weird controlling with both the arrows and WASD, but maybe that's the point.
cool graphic design.
funny and confusing, but rewarding. think i got a hang of how it worked after a while of playing and checking out you description. great soundtrack, like the theme of some supervillain in a bond movie. also, the art!
very interesting and original. would love to see this get further development. the music and graphics are really something. highly entertaining even though it's a bit fuzzy.
AWESOME! perhaps the punching doesn't work really as well as it probably should, but it doesn't stop it from being very fun to play! also, the thing about pointing out were the other players are is great, it makes the game much more interesting and, for me, much more offensive and frantic. amazing job!
beautiful art. the gameplay works really well though i would like to be able to jump with the up-arrow instead of Z.
great fun, and really good writing and programming! it gets a little repetitive over time, but i still had a good time with all the duels.
i ran into an error, however. in Zee Charcutier's fight, when he either waves the sausages or attacks i choosed to attack but got the other one. it seems you've mixed up the links, because when i tried it again and choose the sausages i attacked.
<3
the simple mechanics, writing and soothing atmosphere works really well together. the game makes me calm, contemplating. i like it.
i laughed a lot at the dialogue! absurd story and great atmosphere, good job!
great atmosphere; the visuals and sound really sets the mood.
cute artstyle, but it's a little hard to read the text. also, how do you beat the boss?
humorous, and the way you deal and experiment with commandment and interactivity is really clever. great work!
awesome artstyle! the shooting works great too.
Like a rudimentary bullet hell shmup, not to hard, fun, and good although repetitive boss battles. The button-layout felt very natural, and controls were responsive. Took me a while to get used to the hit box, but i'm not sure if i really want it to be smaller. Managed to get to wave 80 and got a score of 12640; i like that the game continues with random waves, cause i didn't want it to spot after those three stages. Good work!
great design! i also like your take on linearity and the theme; to not be able to go back in time, i.e. left, made me more aware of my jumping. good controls, but the game could do with a little more variation, and i guess that's where the power-ups come in.
your character design is really good, so is the background, but maybe the level design could become a little more organic.
i like it! had to play and get all the endings, and one (you probably know which one) was fantastic! good fun.
your comment on gamejolt really helped me with the first level, and from that one on it was a blast. great game: clever, fantastic music and mood, good graphics and balanced difficulty curve.
once i figured out what i was supposed to do i just played it over and over. clever and fun.
This is a really good concept, simple but fun, and i feel like it's a lot more complex than it first seems like. For me though, it's a little bit to hard, and that's partly because that the game at times don't respond when i click, but it also feels like my mouse really can't move that fast. I should probably go borrow my brothers smartphone and play it on that.
Good job anyway, i enjoyed my time with it, played it over and over but i'm sad that i couldn't even finish that first level.
looks and sounds amazing, but it's just too hard. in that scooter-sequence, the fact that you're always in the centre of the screen makes it very hard to react in time when you speed up and has to avoid the stones. i also tried to open the safe but when i had done that once i couldn't click on it any more after that, which seemed strange. and i would actually like to be able to remember were all the things are instead of having to click randomly at the drawers, hoping to get the right one.
but, all these things aside, this is a fantastic entry.
guess this is a game i may come back to and play again just to try to understand and to achieve "victory". the gameplay is a little bit distracting with this in mind though, but it's also really interesting. very abstract, great visuals and i also like the introduction.
minimalistic and well executed in almost every way. not very challenging, but the difficulty curve was good so if you choose to extend the game it could get harder. i like that you have to be involved with the game all the way through, from planning to protecting. also, the music.
what a strange world you've created. i really had no idea what was happening in the beginning but as i continued playing i got into the whole atmosphere your writing has. the colours are distracting, and that fits very well with the rest of the game.
the gameplay isn't really fun but the concept is so amazing i don't care.
original idea, but i didn't understand much at all, would like some tutorial or the like.
p.s. basing my opinions on the jam version, haven't tried your latest yet.
okay, so i've played the latest version now. sorry but i still don't understand it.
woah, very original, inspiring and really well done. i've been to a couple of poetry readings so this resonated with me a lot. also, you're a great reader.
definitely remind me of rohrer's passage. it's a very interesting game, but i would like to be able to read trough the text two times before it dissolves (which is a fantastic thing for it to do actually; when time go by the world some into existence but then then disappear again, with the flow of time).
good use of the poem, but as i said, i would like to read it through and at least get a glimpse of what it's about, so i can contemplate on this when i play the next segment.
good game overall, very hectic and i liked all those little comments that flew by as you had to rush ahead.
can't figure out how the beat the 5th room before the treasure, but i really like everything with it and hope you'll expand on the game in the future.
i like your writing style, and all the different choices made me play it over and over. nice work, and the theme is easy to relate to.
great entry! fantastic visuals and good use of the theme for the story and gameplay. but i didn't like using ctrl and space, used space would have sufficed. also, the music stops every time i interact, which i found quite frustrating. the music is good though, sets the mood.
i enjoyed this a lot, the writing and artwork is great.
creative take on the theme, i like it!
fresh and interesting spin on the platforming formula. quite fun.
great idea, but i would have loved some way to control the camera, it's very hard to hit those annoying UFOs. if you even need those things, perhaps at later levels but the other gameplay is surely enough. would also like to play this without time constraints.
crazy difficult but very fun! and the artstyle is great!
looks really promising, the idea, perspective and visual style is great! please finish it!
such a meditative experience. well done!
cool mechanics. kinda fun once you get the hang of it.
lovely art style and good atmosphere. very challenging, still haven't finished it put i think i'm close; i've applied everything (?) to the brush and silver plate and think i only need to find out were to put it.
oh, and it's well written.
nice graphics, but as you said yourself, it's kinda buggy so it's hard to walk up or down up in the maze.
stunning artstyle, and good sound. nice difficulty curve, and some of the puzzles are really good.
thank you all for playing and commenting!
@Diptoman: screwed up? seems to me like you got quite the funny ending. but after all, it's up to you how you want to interpret the story.
thanks for playing!
the music and writing really fits the theme. it's not often you see these jonah twine games either, and this was very well done.
i little too hard, and the controls are bad, but the visuals are great and i like the idea. maybe if you could control the camera by holding down the right mouse click instead of it just changing to a different angle, as all the available angles where kinda frustrating to navigate through.
to bad it ended after the first day, i wanted to see what happened next. good use of music, you don't see that often in twine games. very ominous.
great atmosphere, very creepy. the .txt-file is a nice addition, too.
interesting game. striking visuals and atmosphere.
too freaking advanced for my computer, so i can only judge the sound and graphics, but these are great. the premise seems interesting, wish i could play it!
cute and gory and awesome. and good gameplay too.
minimalistic and fun. really nice work with the style and gameplay, like @Rabbits said: that you don't loose by clicking the wrong one was a good design choice. got to level 13, but i'll be sure to come back and play it again.
really nice design!
oh my, that music!
haha, impossible game. terrific music though.
fun little game, got four of the endings. a little frustrating that you had to listen to that explosion over and over though.
so cool. love the concept, the visuals, the music, the countdown -- everything except for the controls, that are kinda clunky, especially when you move sideways, and that hasn't really been fixed in the postcompo version either.
good visuals and gameplay.
scary and very hard toward the ending. with the graphics, sound and use of the theme you've created a really tense atmosphere. impressive!
confusing at first, then i had quite fun. good concept and execution.
very cool and original concept, and quite difficult. great visuals and audio.
wonderful story and art, and great mechanics. have to play you post-compo version too.
surrealistically crude and atmospherically haunting. a personal and cogent entry. nice work!
the gamplay really felt strange in slow-motion, would have been nice if you could switch between normal and slow-mo. or have it in normal speed to begin with, and then when the explosion draws near you switch to slow-mo. i understand why you want it the way it is; the graphics and physics are fantastic!
a little slow -- but of course, that fits the concept.
Fun game, simple, but it runs really smooth.
interesting and beautiful, but very hard later on.
haha, adorably awesome! love the music, visuals and story. a little repetitive gameplay, but definitely fun and polished.
good, polished game. challenging and fun.
it looks and sounds good, but is extremely hard to control.
interesting experiment.
"This seems less like indie game pitching and more like publisher game pitching"
i'll second that comment (pun intended).
very simple, but quite fun. the difficulty curve is great!
very well crafted. animations, gameplay, difficulty curve. i like that it isn't just random bullets flying around, but that you have to think ahead as much as you have to react fast. like a good bullet hell. great job!
nice artstyle and smooth gameplay.
great concept and use of the theme, and i kinda dig the music, but i would like for it to be more ways to beat it. and that thing with the black room is a little off-putting.
still though, it's a great concept and puzzle, and if you extend it or maybe make more ways to interact with the characters and possibly more endings, i'd love to play more!
genius intro. good, clever gameplay.
in only five hours this is good work. would like to see it finished.
strange, fun, and great art style.
great! now i can finally get the beard i want!
this one really got to me! beautiful use of interaction, dialogue and concept! great work!
oh. my. gaawd. hilarious!
impressive polish! and that music!
what a tense atmosphere. the sound design is really something. and great ending!
nice work, clever puzzles and good humor.
the perfect game for a day like this (i.e. hung-over).
nice design and concept, but the gameplay needs to be a little more dynamic.
oddly amusing, as @smash ball said, but also meditative. good job on the visuals and sound.
what...! i didn't even... oh well.
i agree with arrogant.gamer's comment on how to make that "women can't make games"-joke work better. though, as you can't progress if you don't stop being an ignorant dude i think you got the point across.
but, well, i liked this. seems like your protagonist and mine shared a similar experience.
i like the story. and you should definitely link to the guide you used, just to confuse us all the more. like, make it seem like meta-edutainment-game, or something.
nice twist at the end.
impressive, and vaguely disturbing, the way i wouldn't let my human get intelligent enough to see how i used it.
this was great, you used the theme to great effect. i mean, it's been done before in other games, but i was still very surprised when i wanted to try out the other storylines but couldn't.
the story is perhaps a bit short (took me about 5 minutes), and i don't really understand what the beginning had to do with anything, but i liked it nonetheless. good, sparse prose, just the way i want it.
hard, fun, great mechanics and great look!
amazing artwork!
the songs are really beautiful, the set the tone perfectly. and like chardish said, your use of Twine is very good.
the writing was perhaps a little on the slow part sometimes, but i liked it.
aww, i loved doing the back-flips. nice work!
nice puzzles, visuals and music! the collision detection is a little strange, and the controls a not very precise, even in the post-compo, but great job nonetheless!
nice, you really used the animations to great effect! interesting and good use of twine.
p.s. i enjoyed your dad vs. unicorn a lot too. and that restart-button in the left corner that you've used in both games is a great and subtle innovation.
p.p.s. thanks for checking out my game!
"so the soul can fly out", what a beautiful thing to say, though i imagine it can come of as insensitive to some.
i like your style and writing, how you're not overly sentimental or dwell on details or use too many descriptions, but instead let each page be a small picture and let me speculate on the other things. really touching story.
one thing though: the choice, it's not clear what it is that you're referring to with the yes/no-answer, "go or not go?" would perhaps work better.
walking through the crowd makes this kinda frustrating and hard, but in all other ways this is really impressive.
hi, thanks for checking out my game!
yeah, meta is all the rage right now! no, but seriously, my trend-o-meter is constantly off, so i guess it's a fun coincidence. or perhaps twine is suited for meta-stories.
and yes, we had. those sure were the days.
@theholychicken: hm, what do you mean by choke points?
and thanks for playing and commenting, all of you!
hm, seems like i accidentally changed the original version while making the postcompo. it's now back to the original state, and there should be no bugs left.
thanks for all your comments!
haha, yeah, i always like to pay tribute to the things and people that's been inspiring me at the moment of creation. i'm glad it had such an effect on you.
thanks for your kind words Christina! we should, and i would love to play more twine games in swedish too!
very well done. i've only been playing by myself so far, but i usually play chess by myself too, so yeah, i guess good games work with or without a partner. the sound is great, and i appreciate the cheat-mode, it makes it all the more accessible.
hard as hell, but fun. like @scoobyben i also kept teleporting into obstacles. maybe less randomness to the obstacles, and more easy ones in the beginning?
and btw, i fixed the bug in my game, so there shouldn't be any problem with it now. thanks for playing it!
yes, good controls and graphics, i hope you keep working on it and finish the story!
I like this. Keep working on it!
beautiful.
just lovely.
yay, i've been looking forward to playing your game since i played Garden!
i really like the style and feel of it all, but as some said: music please! and the controls gets real slow when it gets dark, for some reason (in the web-version).
nice work. runs very smooth and looks good.
impressive length, and your writing is very clean and smooth.
just too hard for me to get anywhere at all, even on the lowest setting, and not being able to skip to the "play" makes it kind of frustrating to read the same thing over and over. still, i like the humor and premise of it all.
the most important game i've played this ludum dare, and thanks for that well written post-mortem.
don't really know what else to say.
great first game! your graphical design and attention to detail is amazing, the game looks beautiful. gameplay-wise it's fun, but as i can't tell when i'm being shot at (i guess?) it's kind of frustrating when i die.
Amazing humour and drawings! Great use of twine!
hm... so the foodcourt actually IS a good place for kangaroos? but not so much for stupid pick-up lines?
i've been thinking it was the other way around this whole time. thanks for teaching me the way, rosa stegosaurus!
based on a dream you say?
what a great dream!
i had no problem at all with the jumping, it runs smooth and looks great!
fantastic music and graphics! gameplay reminded me of knytt. fun, good controls, oh -- and edge-grabbing! overall good design, but some of the back-tracking became kind of frustrating. did i mention how good the soundtrack is?
one of the best games i've played so far.
fantastic writing; powerful, poetic and minimalistic. you manage to create a foreboding and tense atmosphere with it, and use the visual style and passages to great effect.
i'm not very fond of the grey parts, mostly it looks kind of cheap, and it detracts from the story a bit, though i like what you do with that part, narrative-wise.
all in all, a well told and powerful story.
challenging and fun!
what a sweet and fun game! too bad there's no music to accompany one of the endings!
you manage to convey a lot of emotions and messages through very small means here. i especially "liked" the part where i wanted to move towards the blue one, but couldn't. powerful.
very cool and innovative use of twine, though i find the story a little confusing with all the characters and stuff that's happening.
really like the way you use that map, haven't seen that before.
fantastic job. had fun all the way through. really engaging and great gameplay.
nice work, very clever game.
thought-provoking and touching. your game connects to the theme on so many layers.
spoilers:
in the end i just stood there next to the fountain, wanting to collect all the things, but knowing that if i stepped away from the fountain i would soon die. forever young, but with no purpose.
amazing entry, but as some have said before: music please! and that collision detection that GarethIW pointed out can make it frustrating at times.
impressive work, great job!
fantastic sound! using those torches to light up the caves and simultaneously getting the sound and color effect created a really vibrant atmosphere! to bad they run out so quickly though! and the random generated nature of the game was a little so-so, my first try didn't include any more holes in the ground so i was stuck on the same level i fell down to.
oh, and great intro!
whoaaa, amazing graphics and atmosphere!
nicely written story. simple but effective. good job.
people have already pointed out things that you could work with, so i'll just go ahead and say that i really liked your art and story!
great game: amazing sound, graphics and puzzles!
nice work, feels very polished and looks great!
what a unique style! nice work!
hej PaperBlurt!
yeah, the game, like Tsai Ming-liang's short, is very slow. you're not doing anything wrong, you just have to be patient.
thanks for playing!
amazing! extremely unfair but fun nonetheless! and looks as well ass sounds superb! great work!
okay, this was a bit tricky, and hard, and i can't say i got very far, but it's an innovative runner/platformer.
lovely game boy-graphics. the gameplay is good and has a little strategy to it, but as others have pointed out: the collisions are a bit bad.
adding a death-animation for the enemies would be nice too. also, i was confused by having two hearts when i die after three hits.
oh, and what a great name!
this is probably the coolest game this LD! just amazing!
amazing game, great writing! so frustrating and fun!
nicely written, not just the prose but how you tell the story. spotted one typo at (one of?) the ending/s: "you never to me that". should be "told", i reckon.
great take on the theme! love it!
fantastic, often disturbing, atmosphere! your art style is unique and very powerful, and the music works great with it. interesting and thought-provoking entry.
and thanks again for playing and commenting!
good writing, i like your colorful prose. simple but good use of the theme too.
pros:
+ graphics!
+ those visual effects!!
+ super sweet!
+ design and concept!!
cons:
- tiring, stereotypical gender representations
- too hard for me!
- slippery controls
great work overall!
"To not being _be_ alone at the same time as you approach, nay stalk, with caution."
minns inte exakt vad det stod men:
"Space-Decibels" - borde det inte vara "Space-disciple" med tanke på kontexten, eller är det något skämt jag inte förstår?
oops, doesn't work att skriva vissa tecken tydligen. oh well, du fattar antar jag.
i can give you a clue: think about Nokia's old slogan...
tested on Windows Vista and Nexus 7, and though it may not work perfectly (the tilt-controls are hard, the game is a little bit confusing) it's really cool and innovative! great take on the theme!
amazing in every way, the best game i've played so far!
nice twist to the genre, and great graphics!
the only bad thing about this game is its lack of scoring system and that it gets a little monotonous after a while - the music, graphics and controls are simply amazing!
i like this a lot. very soothing and beautiful.
nice and short.
