10 Seconds to Insanity by dagothig 2013-09-02T14:15:00
Great mood and fantastic graphics! The music and lighting really made a solid "insane" feel. The traps felt a bit dodgy at times and were hard to spot. Nice job on the random generation, too!

Great mood and fantastic graphics! The music and lighting really made a solid "insane" feel. The traps felt a bit dodgy at times and were hard to spot. Nice job on the random generation, too!
Great entry, well-rounded and polished. Nice gameplay idea and level design, and I love you graphics!
Ha, ingenious and clean implementation of a very small game!
Wonderful entry. Love the style, hand-drawn art, and the simple but challenging gameplay!
Amazing entry! Concept, gameplay, graphics (loved the little details), and music are all extremeley high quality. Great work!
Wow, amazing game. Love the wonderful mood, cute graphics and the puzzle design.
Cool-weird and fun!
Nice graphics, but very frantic gameplay. Feels like the game is running at twice the speed it should.
Great concept and execution. Love the clean graphic style and lighting!
Nice game mechanic and ideas! Loved the clean style, too!
Nice game to have completed in 48h! The delay is an interesting concept. In-game explanations of objects/ships and controls would have helped immensely, though!
"The parachute is safe now." Instant Humor 5/5 :D
Nice mood and graphics. Gameplay is a bit lacking, but some UI elements like a timer would have been great.
Impressive entry, great, complete game. The 10 second theme fit very well in the game scenarios. Awesome job!
Great concept! Reminds me a bit of Hundreds, with time instead of area as winning criteria. Great job!
Great concept, mechanics, and theme fitting! Great to see sommething innovative unlike just slapping a 10 second timer on any regular game!
Cute graphics, but not that interesting a concept. Powerups were kind of hard to make out.
Quite fun actually, nice to play around with ragdoll physics a bit. Graphics are fine and music is quite good. I seriously WTF'd when I read the intro text though...
Something very different! Great advice and nice visuals. Should be used in any game design 101 course instead of the first batch of slides!
Fun game, especially like how the gameplay evolves and strategies change for traversing the level. The shop could have used a bit more love, but hey, compo time is limited :)
Nice little game.
Beautiful visuals, and great way to integrate UI elements into the game!
Incredible work for 72 hours! Great graphics and gameplay. The music sounded great but was maybe a bit too calm for the game. Loved the environment-switch mechanic.
A small note: I found that the player-offset on the screen was too far from the center, so turning around felt strange as it made the screen scroll by almost its full width.
Wow, I can't even. Best game I've played this LD, hands down! The art/style, concept, controls, dialogues, cute sound effects, how it all ties together, and the ending :D
Full score!
Liked the idea of time passing slower as you move faster. The jump mechanic wouldn't really have needed a charge feature though :/ Also liked graphic style!
Great entry! Interesting concept, solid controls and tough but beatable level design! Took a bit to get used to the fast pace at first. Wouldn't really have needed the 10 second timer though.
I like the Snake-like concept of leaving trails and collecting items. Too bad you ran out of time for more!
Fun idea, and the throwing mechanic felt good!
Good fun, and I like the art and animations! Game would definitely look better even at 2x scale, like this it was almost too small.
@Calahagus The keys are randomly contained in the caches. The procedural generation should make sure that there's always a valid path through to the end, so there shouldn't be any missing keys. Oh and yeah, there's a typo in the tooltip. I have no way of fixing that till next week though :/
@dagothig I've experienced the same problem with the trackpad on a friend's laptop. It seemed to stem from the laptop being set up to ignore trackpad input while typing. Unfortunately with the game controls set up as they are, you'd have to disable this feature or use a mouse to play.
@DDRKirby yes, in hindsight that would have been better in every aspect. I spent I think 6 hours just on the proc gen code and ended up with something that still isn't very good or bug free. But at no point during programming could I bring myself to just throw the code away and design a fixed level :/
@wally2069 how exactly? Can you give any more details or hints on what bothered you?
@alts Yeah, it's a bit of both. The spacebar mechanic to let time flow is there to add the skill element of timing your moves to navigate the dungeon efficiently. However, what I had also planned was the addition of enemies that are able to home in on you and attack you when time flows, so that you'd have to lure them away from objects you wish to open with short flows of time. Unfortunately, I didn't have time for that, though.
Nice game. Would have loved powerups or ways to change the weapon other than waiting for it to get randomized. Good fun otherwise!
Fun puzzler! The time constraint was somewhat infuriating for the type, but still worked ok.
Nice surreal game. Felt a bit aimless, so my impatience got the better of me. An ambient background music would have kept me going for much longer.
Great game and concept! Loved the creepy little creatures, and the light/dark switch effect. The mechanics are solid and make for an interesting gameplay! I sometimes died with half of my character already in the light, which felt a bit unfair.
All in all, a great entry!
+1 for the title/interpretation of the theme :)
Great one. Love the mouse-mechanics and graphics!
Fun game! I actually really liked the music track, but I thought it didn't fit the speed and the type of the game at all...
Haha, very different and cool! Graphics look good and the mechanics/controls have a solid feel to them (nice use of screen shake!)
Great entry! Loved the graphic style, the intestinous feel to the world and the interesting weapon types.
Impressive entry, with unlockables, graphics, UI and solid feel to the gameplay!
Very great game, polished and runs smoothly. Fun idea, and good job an all the backend stuff, too!
Something completely different, love to play around with new concepts! Nice effects, and the sounds really helped set a creative weird/awesome mood. Great work!
Cool graphics! UI and feedback for actions/combat needs some work, but nice compo entry.
Wow, I absolutely loved this game. Gameplay is solid and the upgrades keep it interesting. And Graphics, story and overall visuals are terribly cute and make a full, well-rounded game. And the soundtrack is completely mind-blowing. Especially "Search the Ruins". Wow! For 72 hours alone that would have been amazing.
All in all, an incredibly polished and fun game!
Holy particle effects, batman! The jumping particle noise made the game unfairly difficult.
Apart from that it's a really well executed rage platformer. Love the graphics and sound, and difficult level design.
Really well done with lots of polish! One little nag: it felt unfair that one couldn't pick up power ups when invincible (ship special). Otherwise a great entry!
Good game, enjoyed playing it. Fun dialogues!
Great game! Loved the flashlight effect. I actually started looking backwards and getting creeped out being followed in the dark hallways. The only negative thing was that the map felt slightly too large for the number of items in it, but that might just be me being impatient.
Augh! Such a great concept and game, but having to restart and replay from the beginning was really infuriating!
Great entry, as always!
Gret idea, perfect execution, a good difficulty curve, and great polish! Loved it.
Cool concept! Game was quite fun, but got a bit boring relatively soon. Except for the usual smartphone game-control problems of your fingers occluding everything, it was really well executed! Graphics were great, especially the stars and their animation! Very nice job overall!
I liked the idea of travelling from world to world, and to see some writing and descriptions of the world included.
The controls for the gameplay were very unintuitive though (why burn duration as a mechanic, when a long hold of the button could have done the same?). All in all, a nice entry.
Great game idea! Loved the mood and the mechanics of the torch and digging/briding through the world. Finished it solo, but it's obvious how this would be even more fun with multiple persons. Great job, especially getting the complete multiplayer code together in a 48h entry!
Amazing graphics and great mood!
Great story! Such a great use of different media, colors and page-styles to create different settings and atmosphere! Enjoyed playing it very much!
Amazing graphics, but the gameplay lacks a bit and gets boring fast. Great polish though, and getting a complete shop/upgrade system in place in such short time!
Great idea! Pretty fun when you get used to the jump timing a bit. I like the concept of limiting the input to make the game about quick reactions. Towards the end it felt a bit too punishing, especially when you landed just before the border of the two worlds and had no time to re-jump again.
Great overall entry!
Great puzzlescript with cool graphics. The pushing planets mechanic felt weird but also powerful as it let you do things many other block pusher don't. Great job! :)
Really liked the concept, though the difficult controls added a rather strenuous element to a game that already takes most of your concentration. A simple WASD directional movement would have made the game so much more fun overall! Apart from that though, I liked it.
Also really liked the graphics, and the BG music is superb!
Very cute! :)
Very awesome idea. Simple, elegant idea, and yet it has so much potential! I'd very much like to see a couple different story seeds of this game get set after the jam and just let loose for a couple of months, gathering awesome and weird and stupid entries.
Well done!
Great concept and design. Did take to moment to fully understand what was going on, but was fun once I had gotten there. The map generation sometimes threw me off, in one game I got stuck in a 1-world corridor and could never really expand beyond that as the AI kept cutting of my foward base from the side...
But other than that, a really well polished entry! Kudos for including an AI in a 48h game!
Great entry for such a short time! Liked the concept of swapping, which felt intuitive for me. I felt the low-range tower was useless though. Great music track!
Great entry! I really really enjoyed the plot and setting of the story. At first the slow appearance of the dialogue messages annoyed me, but after a bit they really helped draw me into the mood of the story.
I liked a lot of ideas you used (the programs, the tangibility of thoughts for Maya) and the metaphors and pictorial writing.
I would have -loved- to see two or three more dialogue (monologue?) scenes after the successful ending!
An amazing entry. Thanks for the story!
Impressive game, especially for such a short time! Loved the dreamy atmosphere, the characters, particle effects, background music, level design, and wow, the sound effect of the orb-collect is amazing! Only the controls are a bit irksome. The dash feels so heavy and violent in that floaty dream world. If the raven had maybe fluttered, or something else soft, that would have fit so much better, in my opinion. All in all it's a wonderful entry though! Congrats :)
Very interesting style! Liked a lot of the imagery and uses of the dialoges as side-thoughts. I kind of lost the continuity of what was going on once, but other than that I enjoyed the game! Good job!
Wow, this is sooo big. I mean wow! I went clubbing and slapped people with a fish, and tried out doing the story in sync with the male/female versions to see the variations.
Then I (luckily) found the part where they meet themselves and the rabbit, and wow! The story just kept going! I really liked the idea of a synced him/her, and them being out and exploring. The reset-universes idea was pretty neat, too. (But as a side-note: hey, when a supernova bursts, planets don't just fly out of it immediately ^^)
I most liked the very-far happy-ending with the resonating thems feeling their presence.
All in all, am amazingly huge piece of work! Especially for 48 hours! Some of it a maybe bit far-fetched, some of it genius, and all maybe a tad unorded, making it hard to follow a central storyline. But overall, a great adventure I enjoyed immensely!
I played this with 3 friends, and the game really begins to shine when it gets competitive! A really cool brawler, especially for such a short time.
Also love the switching mechanic, it makes for a very cool effect!
I urge ever rater to take the time and try this game with a friend!
