LD27 — 10 Seconds

Seconds of Light by kristof 2013-08-29T04:21:00

Great job, kristof! The lights were great (They reminded me a bit of Monaco. If you haven't played it I think you'd like it). I really liked how you healed automatically and there was no life bar.

I might have softened the item pickup sound, but that is a very, very minor complaint.

If you wanted to keep going with this, generated maps could work really well with what you have made. I would love if I could keep going and find more items and monsters.

GLITCH by TravisChen 2013-08-27T05:54:00

I don't really know which way I'm supposed to be going, but I hope I can figure it out because this style is super cool.

Pleading Rain by Brassawiking 2013-08-27T06:24:00

I really like the art and the concept! And it's a good fit for the theme.

I have an idea of what I'm supposed to do, but the connections between the elements are not revealing themselves to me. But it's a fun enough idea that I'm still trying

The Grassfires of Veldstar by Porpentine 2013-08-27T05:32:00

Wow, Nice Crystal! :D Love all the sounds and the deathlasers.

Inversion by mutuware 2013-08-26T19:30:00

I think you did a good job of using the theme as a core mechanic. The balancing between the two worlds is super fun.

Pube by magicdweedoo 2013-08-26T06:41:00

Really captures the scariness of public bathrooms. Thanks for making this. :)

LagBird by leparlon 2013-08-26T06:28:00

The controls felt nice, and the sounds were funny. When the lag was long, it made me feel a bit drunk and frustrated. Effective concept!

Scraith by lambomang 2013-08-26T06:17:00

Wow. I love the dreamlike feel. This is definitely my favorite so far.

Flicker by lalanl 2013-08-25T23:38:00

Here's my first LD submission, "Flicker"! (And cover art!)

Navigate to each puzzle's exit with buttons and telepads when every ten seconds, you flicker back to start.

Thanks for checking it out!

Flicker by lalanl 2013-08-26T05:23:00

It didn't work for me in Firefox either, but updating it to 23.0.1 fixed the problem.

Thank you!

Flicker by lalanl 2013-08-26T06:45:00

tangentstorm: That's too bad. If you want to pick up from there, you can paste javascript:Map.load(9); into the address bar to skip to level 9.

Flicker by lalanl 2013-08-26T06:53:00

Thanks for the suggestion. Right now the only indication is that the music loop is 10 seconds long and ends distinctly, so when it starts to sound weird, the teleport is about to happen. If you muted it, it would be much harder to anticipate.

Flicker by lalanl 2013-08-30T20:25:00

Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments, everyone!

Flicker by lalanl 2013-09-07T00:55:00

I just put up a link to a non-compo version with fixed controls. :)

The Devil That Comes by Zetsaika 2013-08-27T01:32:00

Loved the tension and dark feel. I think I would have liked a cutscene (of text), or maybe having the devil handle the red typing, just to break up the long chunks of typing as fast as I possibly can.

It was very artful and enjoyable. I feel like your ability to make such an engaging text game would perhaps make you someone who would also be interested in Twine games.

Well done, and thanks!

The Hero's Journey (or get the treasure and run) by Ludipe 2013-08-26T19:16:00

Difficult, but a great idea!

Tardis Robot Hospital by Binary Gambit 2013-09-06T02:59:00

I think the art in this entry is amazing. The controls are a bit hard to master, but figuring them out was fun in itself. I'm sure if you go on with this, you'll end up with a pretty sweet game. I see a lot of good things here and I bet you've got a lot more good ideas to offer. :)

Potato Lagoon by rezoner 2013-09-01T06:11:00

Excellent.

10 seconds to PLAY by evilDan 2013-09-01T02:54:00

The platforms felt a bit icy and I fell off a lot, so I might have liked a way to control run/walk, but I thought the randomly generated levels were super cool. :)

Direct Interval by Kerinova Studios 2013-08-26T05:49:00

The controls don't seem to work on a PC. I keep getting stuck on the You Lose screen without any way to get rid of it.

Chrono Blood Ninja by theholychicken 2013-09-06T03:43:00

I like the style and graphics a lot, and the controls are broad and leave a nice amount of room for mastery. I'll definitely be checking out the updates. Great work!

Hackfield by Katamori 2013-09-06T05:16:00

The wide caps text was kind of hard to read, and it was a little stressful to try to read the instructions with the timer beeping, but the concept was really interesting and the game was pretty.

I didn't understand if I was doing well or not at first, but I wanted to keep playing anyway.

AntiVirus by Kevlanche 2013-08-26T05:31:00

Terrific! This is really fun. Thank you!

Exploratite Mitae by Lubial 2013-09-12T07:33:00

I am awestruck. The feel of your game is sooo good. Thank you for making it!

Hunger Clock, Literally by Vaughn 2013-09-06T05:35:00

This game feels good to play and the art is excellent. I think this game would be irresistible with some music!

10 SEC TRAP by drawm 2013-08-28T01:13:00

You really know how to make feedback feel good! The synced music and flashing were exciting and made me want to keep playing.

I couldn't discern any way of predicting where a red shape might appear, so I don't feel like I could get better at surviving with practice.

I didn't like 'nj bro', but I thought the other messages were fun.

10 Seconds In 10 Seconds by Jishenaz 2013-08-26T05:43:00

I like the idea and wish I was better at using the controls. I like these kinds of games that have controls like this, but I'm not good at them.

Distraction by andwhatnot 2013-08-29T03:53:00

+∞ for tacos. :)

10 Second Thinking by dmastergames 2013-09-01T17:21:00

I think the music fits the pacing of the game really well, and the puzzles you made are a good challenge.

I did have a bit of a hard time registering where all the moving parts were immediately though—something to more obviously distinguish the blocks from the block destinations would be helpful.

Nice game!

Red/Blue by aaronj 2013-09-06T02:49:00

I love the graphics, especially the glow when you reach the star. The movement allowed for very little error, so I couldn't get very far into the game.

Notes on departure by kristoffer zetterberg 2013-09-16T14:15:00

I liked this a lot. At first I thought the end would depend on what I left, rather than whether I left anything.

When I failed to write something in time, I discovered what the game actually is—a challenge against yourself to not just write, but also to be satisfied with what may be the last words someone who loves you may ever read. And the more you let yourself be immersed in it, the more important that decision feels.

I think the people who are saying this is not or may not be a game or putting game in quotes are being silly. It is a short, one-turn RPG, and it's beautiful and undiluted.

Time well spent by T1 2013-08-28T00:21:00

I got stuck a few times trying to round a corner, and sometimes Death went faster after I'd rewind for a little bit and I didn't understand why.

BUT all the << || >> was well done, and I wish this had been longer so I could have more time to explore and develop time -related techniques. Great job!

Coin Rush by lectvs 2013-08-26T05:55:00

Energetic and fun! Landing in the right spot is pretty difficult, but I think that's good.

BECOME A GREAT ARTIST IN JUST 10 SECONDS by mcc 2013-08-27T05:19:00

I'm only stopping playing this because I don't have any sick days left.

Sacred Scarab by Tritax 2013-09-06T05:25:00

I kept thinking the doors would open if I walked into them with a key, but I couldn't figure out how to open them.

Dango Rush by ghRibacki 2013-09-06T03:58:00

I really liked the music and controls, but I think the enemies may have been too difficult for me to kill.

LD28 — You Only Get One

Doki Doggie by Husky 2013-12-24T08:08:00

Cute pixel doggie! Cool music, too. You've done a really good job with this game :) I'd be excited to play this again if you ever make any kind of changes to it.

SEINOU by Harsay 2013-12-24T00:30:00

I like the way you used the theme, and your level design works so well with the different abilities to make the same level feel interesting. Great job!

Sorry about forever by lalanl 2013-12-24T02:18:00

haha! That's the point. ;) It's a metaphor for life.

Only one Cookie by Linus Lindberg 2013-12-24T00:19:00

Gorgeous drawings, and I like the music. I liked to pretend to be waving at mom, because it made me feel sneaky. Good job!

John Power by Anoarith 2013-12-24T02:46:00

Good, difficult platformer. Great music!

Luduvikus by JALgames 2013-12-24T02:10:00

The way this game is played appeals to me a lot. Crafting reminds me of Settlers of Catan in a way that I like. I can tell you put a lot of care into it. I would be very excited to see it expanded! (Especially the NPC things you mentioned above)

If you decide to do that, here are some thoughts you can consider or disregard as you like :)
* Sound and music would be lovely, and would provide nice atmosphere to accentuate all your hard work on the rest of the world.
* I think the HUD and its shade obstruct view. Smaller HUD elements or different spacing might help.
* Adding on-screen HUD elements might be a good way to help players remember the controls.
* Whether or not you decide to add sound, a visual indication that the player is taking damage might be a good idea.
* Is there a way to drop, scroll, or stack items? I picked up a whole bunch of stuff and when I made an axe, I couldn't find it because it was off the screen.
* It's easy to lose the player against the green background, especially in trees. A more contrasting color would make it easier to keep track of my location.

* I really like the progress bar when digging/chopping.
* Your mob designs are creative. They remind me a bit of Faxanadu, which is one of my favorite games.

I hope to see another of your games soon!

The ruling party by kristoffer zetterberg 2013-12-18T17:05:00

Something about this made me feel sad. I like your writing.

Don't Lose It! by OneDee 2013-12-24T03:02:00

Interesting use of the theme, challenging, and polished. Excellent job!

1837 by fizzhog 2013-12-24T02:17:00

XD A charming game, like always.

DISTANT WORLD FOR THE BOTH OF US by Cell 2013-12-24T02:51:00

Very interesting controls, terrific feedback, and completely gorgeous graphics. Amazing!

You Only Get One Shot by embero 2013-12-24T00:36:00

It's addictive! It would be cool to make the play area bigger, too. :)

M'Lady and The Tramp by Pixelbear 2013-12-24T02:57:00

I'm speechless, but I laughed a lot. Well done. Very well done.
