A simple screenshot doesn't do justice to how nice the graphics and effects look in-game. The readability and controls of the game are very crisp.

I like how important strategy is in this, and how balanced it feels. Making turns reminds me of playing chess.

Usually i can think of multiple suggestions on what to improve in a game, but this game is just so well thought-out and executed that i wouldn't change a thing!

Haven't finished the game yet, but for those that did, some extra challenges:
• Beat a room using melee only.
• Leave a clean room.

P.S. Had a level generated without the "@" once, crashed on trying to target a spell to figure out where i am!

Hello! Really nice that the game seems finished and has all the components you would expect from it. :)

Great sound and interesting graphics style, though at times it feels more blurry and less pixel-art. Though the blur makes it rather unique. Also it's sometimes difficult to tell which way your character is facing.

Gameplay is quite fun, unrestricted angle movement is a nice touch.

The bomb does damage through walls though, and can sometimes be illegally placed to crash the game. (Not 100% sure the two are related!)

One thing that is missing though, is the motive of the character. What is he trying to do? Even if the storyline is just one sentence, it really adds a lot for me personally, because then i can project what to expect in the future levels, or upon beating the game. It keeps players motivated. (Sorry, if the storyline is implied or revealed later, haven't finished the game yet!)

Can't stress enough that the game has a real nice finished feeling, lot's of detail and content. Great work!

I really like the happy mood this game creates :) The movement and dash mechanics are unique and fun.

I wonder if you tried making the regular or dash trails persistent at low opacity or have the explosions generate some persistent graphics for the duration of the level? So that the player not only generates unique composition of music while playing, but an abstract visual background as well, sort of like painting strokes.

The game is quite fun, though the slipperiness took a while to get used to before i could score a goal.

The only issue i have with this is the screen-shake effect. It adds a nice feel to impacts when done correctly, but here it's way over the top in my opinion. :)

The premise is great though :D I can't help imagining a full scale game where two teams of monster trucks completely obliterate the grass field while playing football, meanwhile the drivers honk horns and yell at each other :D

Streaker 2013 by ashdnazg 2013-09-12T16:57:00

Funny and brilliant idea :) I really like that there are multiple types of people in the field, and that they react to you differently :D

Some minor issues (i was trying the original, so sorry if they were fixed later):
Running horizontally or vertically works fine, but if you hold down multiple keys, the diagonal running is slower and jittery. I'm guessing it wasn't intended? Should be easy to fix or disable it though :)

And the other thing is, sometimes at game over, the black screen is not properly aligned over the field.

Overall: Simple yet fun idea that was executed really well! Nice graphics and funny sounds on top of that. Definitely worth the time to try out :)

Oops!!! v0.5alpha by Blue Steel 2013-08-26T07:54:00

Hello! Personally, I find it quite hard to come up with simple and minimalistic game mechanics that don't require shooting bad guys, so it's always nice to see a game that pulls off a simple concept. Good idea randomizing the background colors, keeps it easy on the eyes. :) Also, it's a nice touch, that you can't place the same color on the top background, it stops the player from randomly pressing. Wanted to say it's a bit hard and could use guidelines for block landing location, but after playing for a while i see that eventually you get used to the speed and can predict the blocks quite nicely so it's ok.

Biggest issue is the program closing on game end, it's not that time consuming to launch it again from cmd, but somehow the screen closing and opening again repeatedly, hurts the mood and immersion a bit.

Bonus points because i guess this game helps improve coordination and reflexes! :D

10TEN SECOND2NDs by stepvhen 2013-08-26T08:10:00

Hello! The game was missing two dlls for me:
msvcp110.dll
msvcr110.dll
I found them on the internet though to try out the game anyway.

Since the game is unfinished i won't mention all the bugs and focus on what i did like about it: The mspaint graphics are nice and funny :D Also i laughed as soon as i read swiping accross the keyboard to row, so points for that. Also nice idea on having to finish second.

If you ever plan to revisit this game, i think it really has potential to be fun if finished, i.e. more events, some funny sounds and maybe have the mob interfere with the events. Keep up the humor style, i personally like it.

Caves of Caladria by Joxno 2013-09-12T17:17:00

Procedural maps, platformer mechanics, firing aim, enemies, inventory system, stuff falling from the ceilings.. the amount of content and detail is really impressive considering this was your first jam. :) You must be really good at managing time!)

The game has really nice atmosphere, somehow the music and the blueish colors are very relaxing. :)

It was fun to use the gun as a jetpack by holding down the fire key, though i don't think that was intended.

I couldn't figure out what the items do though, all it says is i'm feeling a strange sensation lol.

P.S. Help, the character is on fire, what do? :D

CHRGNG PLS W8 by bonsairobo 2013-08-26T08:36:00

Hello! The idea sounds nice, but i can't get the game to work. I installed the redistributable you provided, but when i run the program the following happens:
Windowed mode: the screen opens for a split second and immediately closes.
Fullscreen mode: the screen turns black and flickers a few times between the desktop and the black screen,then program closes.

Super Zang IV by itidus21 2013-08-26T09:39:00

Hello! First of all, nice character designs! :D The graphics and sounds set up an interesting atmosphere.

The gameplay idea with the phases sounds really interesting, however the current phase is a bit hard to read, the game is quite fast-paced, and you really have to focus on the middle, no time to glance to the corner.

I would recommend to make the phases last a bit longer and perhaps try different cues. Changing the character look/stance based on the phase would be ideal, but other things like different music cues, or changing the grey background to red/blue depending on state would work as well.

If you made the phases longer, it would make the fighting more strategic, now by the time you check the phase and look back to your position the phase might as well have changed and that results in your clicks being random instead of what you want to do.

Also now you can win by click-spamming in the center of the screen most of the time :D

Sorry for the wall of the text, but i wouldn't have written so much if i didn't think the idea has great potential ;)

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm happy to hear people like it :)

@lalanl
The idea was that death should always reach you at the 10th second. So if you increase the distance, it's speed will adjust accordingly, so that it can catch up to you in time.

@manabreak
I had plans for sound, but in the end i didn't have enough time to add any. The .dll is there just in case some leftover code might be including something.

@nicotr014

Yes, all levels are beatable :) If you're having trouble in the second level, I'm guessing the mechanics might be a bit unintuitive and hard to figure out. The idea in most levels is that you don't have enough time to get all the items in one go, so you must rewind to get the other items (you don't lose items you already picked up during the rewind). Also use the fact that death doesn't move during the rewind to your advantage. Basically most of the levels can be beat this way, apart from a few which use a bit different mechanics.

@jomomomo

:C

Since it's opengl I guess i could try rewriting the main file that handles window creation and user input specifically for linux and try compiling something. Can't promise anything though, me no sudo long time.
If you're on a mac however, i can't do anything at the moment :D

Last Second Hero by ghostonline 2013-08-26T10:57:00

Hello! The game is very well done. It feels finished, the minimalistic pixel art has that retro vibe and the sounds compliment it nicely. I love the attention you've given to detail with the moving bomb eyes and the small particle effects together with screen shaking. It gives the robot impact a really nice feel to it.

Not being an avid puzzle player i find the levels challenging enough to be interesting too :)
