LD28 — You Only Get One

Blue Harpoon by FrederickK 2013-12-19T04:11:00

Excellent use of the theme! It's gratifying to use the spear, kinda deadly to retrieve it. Awesome graphics, too! Congratulations :D

One Man Fire Brigade by bvanschooten 2013-12-18T19:24:00

Cool concept! I really liked the water spraying mechanic and the way the fire spreads. It's VERY hard though! Couldn't get past the first level :O I think there must be a simple way to beat it but I didn't get it. Maybe one or two "intro" levels could ease your way into the mechanics and tricks of the game, with less humans to be saved and less fire spots. Just a suggestion :) Great job, man! Very innovative game you got there :D

CUOP DO SACI by leparlon 2013-12-19T02:07:00

Hahahahahah, I couldn't beat 1m in this thing but god how I laughed xD Very cool how you subverted QWOP by making leg and arms be your tools. I can't stop laughing at the arm thing. Wish I could do better than 1m. Great job, guys!

One Coin by jpsierens 2013-12-18T19:17:00

Cool, kinda remembers me of Candy Box!

One Torch by ahnt 2013-12-18T01:28:00

Nice concept and mechanics, interesting puzzles, but a little slow.

YOGO RocketFist by _Rilem 2013-12-18T00:46:00

Great game! i loved everything about this game, even though I had problems with the WASD getting stuck, and having to reload the page once in a while.(maybe it was only my computer)

There Is Only One Traitor by LukuluK 2013-12-18T20:10:00

That's a promising idea, and a very innovative one! I loved the sub-mechanics like teams, sweating, panic bar and all the mexican standoff vibe. But I too think a post-LD version could have chain dialogues, and information you need to cross-check until you have a traitor. Or even the pieces of information leave you with 2 possible traitors, but there's a small detail which helps you find the right one.

Another thing: the panic bar fills up very quick, but once you lose, you just restart the level and you didn't lose anything. All information is fixed, so if you lost but now you already know who's the traitor, you just begin again and shoot him. That takes some of the tension away, it's like there's no actual lose condition. I think some randomness could add to it. Things like random pieces of info that could or could not appear in a level (some crucial, some just flavor), characters that change their place and face between restarts, or more than one piece of info per suspect. Like a procedural find-the-traitor standoff :D

Anyway, just ideas. Great concept you have there! One of the most innovative games I've seen in this LD ^^

Underbyte by unusualcadence 2013-12-17T20:31:00

Hahahah, great concept! The Underbyte, glitchburbia, where the fallen souls wander and try to keep the fun flowing. Weapon, deaths and explosions all provide great feedback. I had some trouble with the explosion cubes, sometimes they fall from a great height and won't explode what they were supposed to, sometimes it was hard to get them in the right place to shoot a way out. Apart from that, loved the quintuple jump and the upgraded gun :D Great job!

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2013-12-18T19:42:00

Really entertaining. I played it a lot, even being kinda laggy in my computer.

Babelita by Kuupu 2013-12-19T04:24:00

Wow, this game is BEAUTIFUL! You guys did an impressive work, Babelita is incredibly polished for a 72-hour game. The controls are responsive, the level design is excellent, everything is beautiful and well-thought. It is very, VERY hard, and a few checkpoints would be nice. But I guess it is part of its arcadey-mega-maney feel. Didn't manage to beat it yet, but I'll sure try again after a good night of sleep xD Oh yeah, the tune is VERY catchy and cute. Congratulations, Kuupu!

Akh by Midnight Creators 2013-12-18T00:50:00

beautiful game! and the sound was amazing too!
I just found quite annoying that much text when the level starts. And also, it was kinda less responsive than i would like a game like this to be.
But hey! for 72 hours! Good job!

Akh by Midnight Creators 2013-12-19T02:04:00

Lipedal here (the other Lipedal back there was my co-worker Cauã). Holy mother, you make BEAUTIFUL art! Loved the custscene and the general mood of the game :O Great soundtrack choice too. I only got a bit confused when red and blue started to negate each other. Other than that, you have a VERY solid entry there! It's really impressive that it was made in 72 hours. Congratulations, Midnight Creators! :D

Last Squadron by Chaoseiro 2013-12-19T02:34:00

That looks promising, man. Would love to see a fleshed-out version with sound and improved gameplay :)

Agent One by DanielSnd 2013-12-19T01:06:00

This game is beautiful! Great low-poly characters, and great visual overall. I liked the story too, haha. Movement is a bit slippery, that's my only complain. Very good for a 72h game though, grats guys!

One Shoot by frickajr 2013-12-19T01:55:00

Cool game! Found it hard at first but soon I couldn't stop playing. Until I found a very hard level (maybe 7 or 8) and quit :P Great concept, grats!

Crew: A Futuristic Detective Game by metkis 2013-12-19T04:38:00

Great game, five stars! Love the art style, and the sound design ^^ Flesh out the information system and you have an excellent product in hands :D

Choose One by igorfelga 2013-12-19T01:38:00

I tried and I tried and I tried but I couldn't get past the money bags :( Thanks for recording a playthrough, Dan!

ONE SHOT by João Kucera 2013-12-19T00:16:00

Hahahah, love the way they dance! I had some problems to play, though. Unity web player didn't let me play in full screen, so my mouse kept going all over the screen and I ended up clicking lots of things outside the game... Whenever I clicked again in the web player, I lost because I just used my only shot. Plus, I found my target on two plays and kinda "missed" them, even though I had them in front of me and clicked. Maybe an aim/reticle could help kill this ambiguity on where you're supposed to hit :) Apart from that, excelent mood, music and ambience! Left me wanting to have full screen just to take a walk through the club :D

ONE SHOT by João Kucera 2013-12-19T00:18:00

Downloading the Windows version now to play again ^^

YOGO Mom! by Coblynau 2013-12-18T22:36:00

Loved YOGO Mom! It's very addictive, and once I understood the items and what I shouldn't clean up, I couldn't stop laughing! Mom's feet and the sound she makes when she's walking are lovely. Plus, it's great that you get one extra second after you're finished. Don't know if that's on purpose or not, but it's very rewarding to get an extra coffee after your score is already on the screen, and you get more time to keep playing. More games should do that :D

A Precious Arrow by Benjamin 2013-12-18T22:44:00

Haaaaaard! Wow, I think I need more arrows to do that. Awesome graphics, awesome sound and great mood. Has kind of a NES feel to it :D

Tall Grass by Lipedal 2013-12-17T20:41:00

We loved making Tall Grass, and we plan on doing a "expansion pack" with a few more end-game levels. Glad you liked it, guys! Please spread the word :D

Tall Grass by Lipedal 2013-12-18T16:23:00

Symmeteer, remember you can push against a wall or against a monster to pass a turn. Try doing that, it makes things easier :)

Daniel, sad to hear Tall Grass didn't work on Firefox! Anybody else had the same problem?

Tall Grass by Lipedal 2013-12-20T16:03:00

Thanks for the feedback! Last level was a rushed idea, sorry for that. We had football levels, monster levels, and levels where you kick a ball into the goal while escaping from monsters.

We wanted to explore Teen Pewee in a fourth type of level though, where he must reach the 'ball' first (an item canister like those of Pokemon), and bring it back to the kid. It should be the most challenging kind of level, but you have the advantage of controlling only one character (harder to die that way), and after getting the ball you can use it to navigate through the monsters.

I think that idea should have been introduced earlier, in order to work well. We'll write a post mortem later, and put that as one of the things that we did wrong (:

ONE JUMP by tinyangrycrab 2013-12-17T20:12:00

Cool concept! Shooting feels very, very good, and this jump-jump-dash-jump-shoot-jump-dash-shoot chain idea is sure to make for some great moments. Found it very hard though, there's a section right on the second level that I don't really know how to get through. But difficulty is a beast, you can never be sure if what you're making will be too easy or too hard for the players. Great job, guys! Will try to beat it :D

Darwinism by wilsonl 2013-12-18T19:48:00

Cool game! Very interesting what you did with two types of fish (evo / time) and enemies (-evo / -time). Kinda remembers arcade race games like Cruis'n World, running against the clock and fighting for each second earned!

Mime Time by GrinCreative 2013-12-19T00:31:00

Great game! Loved the cow disguise, a mime sure wouldn't have problems pretending to be a cow xD Really nice graphics, fun animations and cute music! I wish I could walk diagonally, but I guess this is part of what makes the gameplay work. If I had to change one thing, I'd make the "caught" animation shorter, so you could start again in no time ;) Nice job, guys!!

The Initiate's Spell by Nut 2013-12-18T23:31:00

Awesome game! Really shows what you can do with PuzzleScript in the matter of little adventures. Incredible that you did this puzzle-world design in so little time, having to take care of at least 3 possible solutions for each of the 7 artifacts :o Plus, love the music! I stopped playing to have dinner and caught myself whistling the tune every once in a while. The music and the puzzle design build a really solid exploration mood, like you see in the first Zelda games. Grats!

FASTBACK by Opifex Ludus 2013-12-18T20:20:00

Wow, amazing game! Very good presentation too. This is one of those concepts where being hard is a crucial part of the experience, along with short levels and a fast restart ;) Remembers me of SuperHot from the 7 Day FPS jam, but the other way around. Love the simple graphics too, they leave space to the imagination. Would love to see a post-jam version with more levels :D Grats, guys!

Dr. Jekyll 2 by marquetgames 2013-12-19T02:14:00

Ooh I get the meta-game here! I almost turned into a monster trying to get over that first ledge xD

DISTANT WORLD FOR THE BOTH OF US by Cell 2013-12-18T19:11:00

I WON! i think.. and.. pretty laggy
Anyway, nice art style.

Projectile 1 by diegomachado 2013-12-22T05:28:00

Hahaha man, this is awesome! Wish I had this idea ;) It's such a simple concept, yet very innovative and well executed. Very good to play too. You managed to provide great feedback for everything, with sound effects and screen shake. It's probably the best "you only got one shot" game I've played, congratulations! :D

Two Options... by GFM 2013-12-18T22:24:00

Awesome entry!! You got a very solid game there! Loved the art, the levels, and the difficulty ramp was very fleshed out for a 72 hour game. Wait, you did it in 48? Holy shit!

Ballkeeper by cappelnord 2013-12-18T01:03:00

Easy to learn, easy to play, easy to like.
Awesome job! Really fluid game.

TITAN SOULS by Claw 2013-12-18T19:02:00

That game is as beautiful and engaging as tough!
Congratulations!

Fountain by Terry 2013-12-18T19:23:00

Ggreat exploration of the theme, and nice touch with the fountain gimmick.

Monocraft by MaTX 2013-12-18T22:10:00

Fantastic! I wish more games like this came out :D I'm the first pink kitten in the third tower ^^

Princess Kingdom by ncannasse 2013-12-23T17:04:00

Fantastic entry! I'm addicted to it, having only one of each item is simply genius. Grats!

13 jellyfish by Four Quarters 2016-12-14T15:43:00

Amazing take on the jam theme. Simple mechanics, a lot of fun. And the art is so cute and well animated!

Here is a link to our entry, i'd appreciate if you take a look. http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=29565

:)

Hikikomori by WarmLemon 2016-12-13T11:10:00

I failed at it :( I think my banker brother wouldn't let me play games, and I couldn't get him out of the room.

Nice that you got to put some of your personal experience in the game! Fits the theme like a glove.

Break The Trance by calcitherin 2016-12-13T11:19:00

Loved the graphics! Didn't manage to break the trance though, where are the items for me to pick up?

Break The Trance by calcitherin 2016-12-13T11:25:00

Oh, mine's here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=29565

Sorcerer's Room by hugofock 2016-12-13T11:16:00

Ooohhh, good concept! Turn-based fighting game. Took me some time to understand it, but I liked the way it works. Mindgames :)

Sorcerer's Room by hugofock 2016-12-13T11:24:00

By the way, mine is here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=29565

All-around awesome! Congrats on the amazing job :D

Humanity Walks Into a Bar by Lipedal 2016-12-15T11:25:00

Hey guys! For the ones having performance issues, we've published post-jam builds on GameJolt (gamejolt.com/games/humanity-walks-into-a-bar/217837) and Itch.io (https://luderia.itch.io/humanity-walks-into-a-bar), with some bug fixes and better balacing. We plan on adding a little bit of stuff that we didn't manage to put in during the jam, hope you guys like it :D

Thanks for all the feedback, it's been amazing for us to see what you think of Humanity!

@Cole Chittim Haha thanks! We have some ideas on how to give more control to the player. I'm writing a game design post mortem and touching on that subject a little more. As soon as it's published I'll link it here.

@JoeYoshi Thanks for your feedback! We've optimized the game's performance in the post-jam version, it's up on GameJolt and Itch.io.

@FellowPlayer Wow, thanks for the playthrough! Awesome video :D

@youngbrothers It's not random, haha. Only random things are the direction the little people move when not engaged, and which one dies when two of them fight. There are rules for them to like or dislike each other, and subtle ways of identifying who's "fertile", who's old and such. We wanted to leave it open to the community to figure it all out, but I'm detailing it a little bit in the post mortem later today.

@madlee It's great that you thought about the mutation! We actually have this implemented and commented in the code, haha. We liked it at first, but them it started looking like the player would score based on luck. The way we're understanding it now, you're screwed if you let one of the 3 initial colors die right off the bat. The best way I've seen so far is making all 3 have babies with each other, then have the second generation have babies with each other, those will be born with the same colors as their grandfathers. The actual "game" part of this quirky little toy gets to be saving colors from extinction (breeding them from parent colors), and trying not to let a single hue take over the world. We may put the mutation back though, we still like the concept ^^

Humanity Walks Into a Bar by Lipedal 2016-12-20T10:32:00

Hey guys! Thanks for all the feedback! We published a game design post-mortem here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/2016/12/19/humanity-walks-into-a-bar-asks-for-a-post-mortem/ It's big, but I hope there's some insight for fellow game devs out here :)

@JimmothySanchez There is, although it is very subtle. Each person lasts for about 100 seconds. You can see they're approaching their deaths when they start to lose color, getting dark and less saturated. The opposite of that — very saturated — is when they're more fertile. As a rule of thumb, people which have just stopped being kids, and people which are almost dying can't have babies. Two of those fight when they meet. If they're halfway through, they just repel each other. If they're both fertile (maybe between 10s and 85s into their adult lives?), they lay an egg.

We know there's no good feedback for all that. We were hoping people would figure out the rules and spread them, but the lack of feedback makes it just look random. We're thinking on how to improve that in the post-jam versions though. Again, thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing! :D

Room 007 by Lancelot Gao 2016-12-13T11:30:00

Awesome game! Reminds me of McPixel, but with nice physics and actual puzzle solving instead of only trial and error. Something that I think would add to the game is a shorter lose screen. The player loses so quickly that you almost spend more time looking at the bomb explode than actually trying to solve the puzzle, haha! I'd go for almost instant retry, like games such as Super Meat Boy, which are super based in trying and trying until you succeed. Congratulations on the amazing work! :D
