Absolutely love this! The concept is fantastic! When the first two little people popped out a baby, I audibly exclaimed, "Oh my god, this is perfect! XD". The art is fantastic with a great subtle design. I love how you worked the world map on to the design of the floor and how the rainbow bar on the side of the bar (woah, bar on bar action) fills in as you create a variety of multicolored tiny people. My only gripes with this game is that I wish I could do more with the little weirdos XD and I wish there was a slightly better way to control them rather than creating an explosion and hoping for the best. Great submission!
Amazing game!Very very very love the art!http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=3035
Look at me :)
Fantastic.

I like the idea quite a bit, but it's awfully boring. Despite being a unique concept, the gameplay is very limited, and feels overly reliant on RNG as to whether people you knock into each other decided to like each other or not. It's dull and rather tedious to play.
I also encountered severe framerate issues when having a lot of people in the bar.
Oh boy was it laggy at the end! XD
Not complaining, this concept is great, I love how my first run ended in one teal color because I let the first folk die off! Wonderful :D

I really like the art. No lag problems with me(i5 4690k hd 7770)
I did not expect humanity to be laying eggs haha! Was fun but hard to slaughter everyone

Yes that was very interesting, just saw this and I thought it would make a great gameplay. I think I did average though with my colors :)

This is genuinely one of the most interesting LD games we've played!

Very impressive game. I had a lot of fun playing- met the theme wonderfully. Nothing but good things to say from me
Well at the start,good+
Very funny entry. I especially like the name. Although it is not much of a game since there is little for the player to do, I liked to run this in the background, and check what colors humanity had obtained in the meanwhile.
Nice graphics also. It was not clear to me when two humans would like eachother. Is this random?

Very neat little game! Great graphics and music. I felt a little weird when two of my original folks died and all the offspring started looking identical - maybe you could add a chance for children to have some variation from their parents' colors? (or maybe there is and i just didn't play enough).
A very interesting concept.

Cool concept and very addicting! Parabéns
Really enjoyed this! Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you and check this out. Very interesting concept!
You've managed to accurately portray my life. Well done.

Hey guys! For the ones having performance issues, we've published post-jam builds on GameJolt (gamejolt.com/games/humanity-walks-into-a-bar/217837) and Itch.io (https://luderia.itch.io/humanity-walks-into-a-bar), with some bug fixes and better balacing. We plan on adding a little bit of stuff that we didn't manage to put in during the jam, hope you guys like it :D
Thanks for all the feedback, it's been amazing for us to see what you think of Humanity!
@Cole Chittim Haha thanks! We have some ideas on how to give more control to the player. I'm writing a game design post mortem and touching on that subject a little more. As soon as it's published I'll link it here.
@JoeYoshi Thanks for your feedback! We've optimized the game's performance in the post-jam version, it's up on GameJolt and Itch.io.
@FellowPlayer Wow, thanks for the playthrough! Awesome video :D
@youngbrothers It's not random, haha. Only random things are the direction the little people move when not engaged, and which one dies when two of them fight. There are rules for them to like or dislike each other, and subtle ways of identifying who's "fertile", who's old and such. We wanted to leave it open to the community to figure it all out, but I'm detailing it a little bit in the post mortem later today.
@madlee It's great that you thought about the mutation! We actually have this implemented and commented in the code, haha. We liked it at first, but them it started looking like the player would score based on luck. The way we're understanding it now, you're screwed if you let one of the 3 initial colors die right off the bat. The best way I've seen so far is making all 3 have babies with each other, then have the second generation have babies with each other, those will be born with the same colors as their grandfathers. The actual "game" part of this quirky little toy gets to be saving colors from extinction (breeding them from parent colors), and trying not to let a single hue take over the world. We may put the mutation back though, we still like the concept ^^
Damn, it's quite tough to generate diversity! My highest so far is 23 colours. Good game, I like it! I think I will play it again in fact...

Great.
Very cool game. Is there a way to tell if people will like each other?
Very cool concept! Interactive with generative stuff is always fun imo!
Although it doesn't feel like the player has much control over everything that happens.
Still quite fun! Super nice music and graphics too!
Not a whole lot you can do other than look at them so it's a bit boring. Really pretty graphics for sure though.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the feedback! We published a game design post-mortem here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/2016/12/19/humanity-walks-into-a-bar-asks-for-a-post-mortem/ It's big, but I hope there's some insight for fellow game devs out here :)
@JimmothySanchez There is, although it is very subtle. Each person lasts for about 100 seconds. You can see they're approaching their deaths when they start to lose color, getting dark and less saturated. The opposite of that — very saturated — is when they're more fertile. As a rule of thumb, people which have just stopped being kids, and people which are almost dying can't have babies. Two of those fight when they meet. If they're halfway through, they just repel each other. If they're both fertile (maybe between 10s and 85s into their adult lives?), they lay an egg.
We know there's no good feedback for all that. We were hoping people would figure out the rules and spread them, but the lack of feedback makes it just look random. We're thinking on how to improve that in the post-jam versions though. Again, thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing! :D

Lovely art and mood, also a great take on the theme. I wasn't bothered by the lack of things to do and I was kept interested trying to figure out the rules which governed their interactions. A great entry - very polished and enjoyable!

I have enjoyed the idea and the concept. Audio has really cool chilling tune. I feel like my interactin could have done more - I felt while trying to seperate some guys I was killing them :(
Like the eggs and that my tiny humans grow.
This was a really interesting game. I really enjoyed it. It was nice to sit back and watch humanity sort itself out after the 20 people mark.
I laughed at using gunshots to make people get close to each other.

Fascinating little game, such a simple mechanic but a lot of fun learning when (and when not) to interfere with Humanity's development.
I had performance issues with the embedded one too, and couldn't finish the game because of it. Humanity was sitting at 147-148, but I couldn't react fast enough to clouds because of lag :(
Adorable. I like that the boy and girl humans can have... eggs together too.

I really like when games use colors as part of their mechanics! =D
The concept is pretty neat and funny, and it worked really well as the game's title! The graphics are great (nice touch with all the references!) and the song worked great alongside the graphics to create the game's mood.
However, I feel like it's too difficult to control everything... Pushing two people together doesn't guarantee they will mate, and there's no indication of how long any given person will live. In fact, I still don't know if people die after some predefined time or if there's a way to prolong their lifespan...
I usually end up raising the population to around 40 and then I leave them do their stuff...
Anyway, most of my complaints are because I'm bad at this game. Even so, it's quite fun to play! Well done! =D
P.S.: I just read your comments on this game. I'll later play it again trying to pay attention to all that. (I did notice one person getting desaturated once, though... now I know why XD)
nice. took me a bit to figure out my involvement (breaking up fights mostly). At first with the SFX I thought clicking on them was an attempt to kill them :)

one of my favorites in this jam. So incredibly cute! And represents humanity pretty well! So far my best was 25 colours :D
Lovely graphics, fun game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/anJNAp7E9kc

its a simulation, so I guess it is doing what is expected. it is just not very fun. I did like destroying the eggs tho. nice entry.
Fun entry with a clever concept and mechanic. Liked the way it all played out and by the time I finished, humanity had 51 colours :)

Hahaha simply great! I got 39 colors. Pretty funny(and realistic?) how fights started happening more often! Congrats guys! Great graphics, audio and all! Very nice entry!!
I found that just letting the little critters carry on with their own lives seemed to work out just fine.
So.. The mechanic is the message?

This is pretty dumb, but in a great way!
The art is fantastic, the music really cool, and blowing up stuff to make babies is... wait, what?
I really like this, it's super weird but it's interesting to watch the little community grow.
