Wow. You made me feel like a monster. Great game!

Wow. You made me feel like a monster. Great game!
That is one smooth experience! I can't even tell you how much I enjoyed the art style, animation and overall design. Great work!
Pretty much a perfect LD game. Enjoyed the hell out of it. It helps that I myself am a fan of screenshake.
It really needed some additional polishing. The movement feels very... sluggish, I guess?
It's pretty confusing. But the art style is nice.
Nice animations and a really solid concept! I really liked it.
Thanks for the feedback, guys! We're looking into adding some downtime, so that you wouldn't accidentally skip the ending. Can't promise anything right now but hopefully we'll get it up today.
Controls are pretty finicky, I needed time to get used to them. And I agree with Dalkor, you could have used one of the two buttons to restart instead of assigning a third button. Other than that, that's a nice concept and I enjoyed my time playing.
A really funny game, though I wish it was longer. The art is simple, but smooth animations totally sell it. Would play again.
It's surprisingly hard. The music is super good and the graphics are nice too.
Amazing graphics, especially considering the time restraints. A very worthwhile experience overall.
I really like this idea. It's neat, simple and immersive. Well done!
Nice presentation and I like the art style. Though I agree with seththefirst, BGM would indeed be good.
Flipping a sprite feels pretty awkward right now.
Very fun game, though controls could be better. Adding wookie was a nice touch.
I actually didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did!
A deceptively cute game. I liked it.
Very good for your first LD.
I would have liked a bit faster pace, but this is an ejoyable concept.
Nice concept, and the art style is pretty fun too.
That is disturbing. And awesome. Great idea, either way!
Liked it. Reminded me of my job.
The art is really well done. I liked it.
It would've been better if the stage looped. It's pretty frustrating to keep smashing into invisible walls. Other than that, I enjoyed my time.
One of the best entries I've seen in this LD! Funny, creative, well-made. The animations are so lovely and inspired.
A fine little game, though I wish there was more variety. Also, as others said, the music is really good.
Very happy to see people inspired by the ONE ROOM theme to create something like this! What a fun concept.
This game put a big smile on my face :)
Interesting concept, very minimalist. Dad's lines were a nice touch, though.
A nice entry, even if it's a bit short. Took me a while to understand how it works.
There are some typos here, but a fine concept nonetheless. Feels very oppressing :)
I've never played this game as a kid, so this is my first time :D Nice entry, really fun atmosphere!
Very interesting visuals. I'd like to play a longer version!
Interesting use of the theme.
Wish there was music :)
But still, a really fun concept.
As others said, you can really expand on this concept. For example, add reloading, special abilities, etc. But as it is now, it is a solid entry.
Hard but fun. A good example of what you can do with a simple concept.
Just when I thought I've already found my top pick, I see this game. Exceptional art and music. Gameplay is simple but nice. Great entry!
Simple but fun :)
Needs more polish, but an interesting idea nonetheless.
A very interesting concept.
I was truly blown away! Every aspect of this game works so well. Level design is just top notch.
It definitely needs polish, but it plays well.
Amazing entry! It's easy to win if you know what you're doing, but I still had so much fun playing.
Thanks for the comment, sn0uk! I've embedded the game now.
What an awesome concept! I really like seeing these offbeat ideas come to life.
Quite fun idea. I didn't expect to enjoy shipping things this much.
Short but fun :) I really enjoyed it.
Smooth animations. I would really like to see it finished one day.
Nice and relaxing, I liked it :)
You should tweak the music, though - I could barely hear the final monologue.
Enjoyed it a lot. Nice concept.
Looks very polished, I really enjoyed my time playing it!
Needs a tiny bit polish with the dialogue system (there are some typos + I would like faster text) but a great entry overall. Nice job!
Simple but effective gameplay. It felt a bit awkward to switch between brushes, but I got used to it quite fast.
Overall, a nice entry!
Hard to say if that was actually "fun" (that's the problem with this category), but I enjoyed how personal this game feels. Nice work.
Short but awesome. The presentation alone deserves high praises.
I felt like a World War I pilot :D
Awesome controls. I feel it needs just a bit more visual polish, but it's a solid entry nonetheless.
What a fun concept! And true to life, sadly :)
Really cute art and presentation. Perhaps a bit variety would be welcome (like a boss coming over to your desk), but I understand how hard it is to draw so much on such short notice.
I also agree with Chronosv2 about the stress level. Perhaps there could be a way of showing stress without explicitly stating the numbers: such as increasingly bigger bags under the girl's eyes or something like that.
But overall, I really dug this game. Nice job!
Damn, and you called MY game difficult! :D Can't decide if the ship looks beautiful or ugly, but it's unique and that's what matters. Controls are tough, sure, but it's satisfying when you get the hang of it. Nicely done!
Thanks for the feedback, guys! You're right, I may have gone too far in a few places. I've updated the game and made it slightly easier (and hopefully, more enjoyable).
Thanks @kbjwes77! As music was the last thing I added, the ability to mute it didn't even cross my mind :P But you're right, it seems like a sensible feature to have. Next time, I promise!
Two people have commented on the size of the indicator, and I don't disagree. The steam gauge should've looked a bit differently (more steampunky, at the very least) but I didn't have enough time or willpower to make it happen. If I'm to work on this game in the future, I'll definitely revise UI. Thanks for the feedback!
Good suggestions all around! @cerno-b, this is a very good video, I watched it three times already (more recently, about two weeks ago). I completely agree with Nijman's game philosophy, and I wish I had time to fine-tune game aesthetics.
@eldogg, there is actually a visual cue for overheating: your shots change color depending on the state of your engines. I wanted to include not only audio cues but also a text pop-up saying something like OVERHEAT! But, you know... deadline :D
Also, a disclaimer: I did NOT write this music, though I wish I had. That's why I didn't include the "Audio" category in the ratings. I can make sound effects, but I'm certainly no composer.
Thanks for the great feedback, @weeping-rupee! I agree that the mechanics are somewhat at odds, as this is the case where an idea sounded super great on paper but was hard to get executed right. Once I have more time, I'll give the gameplay more thought (as well as level and enemy design).
As for the theme, I went for "The more steam you’ve got built up in your engines, the worse it is" - which, I agree, is still kind of loose.
Anyway, thanks again for your critique, you really helped me out!
Just to reiterate: I didn't make this music, it belongs to Rolemusic (in particular, The Black Dot album). As far as I know, they use old video game consoles to create music. In this particular instance, it may have been a gameboy console, but don't take my word for it. Again, I was not the composer.
I don't have a good ear for music, but if I had to, I'd use http://www.beepbox.co to slap something together.
Oh, thanks for the heads up, @cerno-b! Changed my category to Jam. Should've read the rules more carefully, my bad.
Controls could be explained a bit better, I had hard time getting into it. Some tasks didn't want to complete for me, so perhaps I still missed something? Otherwise, an interesting game concept that makes you stressed out as hell.
I felt like such an asshole waiting for my date to shut up so I could play a card :D Very cool premise, I like dating games with a twist!
Neat concept, I had fun. Could have used some polish, though.
Oh man, kudos to this poor parent :D I've only finished 6 levels so I don't know how it plays after that, but one way to increase the difficulty would be to introduce finite milk which you need to replenish.
Anyway, nice job and thanks for rating my game, really appreciate it ;)
Not bad at all, but quite hard (which I like). The text and art could use some polish, but nice job regardless! Do you guys want to continue working on this game? Seems promising.
Not bad. An interesting twist on a classic premise, I liked it. I noticed a peculiar thing: if you right-click several times in a row, it's going to auto-reload the first few bullets you shoot.
Nice concept. Simple but enjoyable. One thing: once I died, I could still control now-invisible fat man (or what was left of him, anyway).
Hey, I survived the last wave! Takes some time to get used to these mechanics, but it's so satisfying to get through another wave. Nicely done!
Not bad at all! Could've used some polish, but it already feels fun enough. I agree with donvermo that it was hard to measure whether you're going to fit through something or not. I think there needs to be a clear indicator how many cavemen you need to eat to grow one size bigger. But nice job regardless!
Wow, that poor cat! A really enjoyable game concept, takes a second to figure it out but it feels satisfying. Congrats!
That was... oddly satisfying :D Really nice job. At first, I thought it was too simplistic, but I was surprised to be proven wrong.
What a fun little game! The premise is quite unique, I just wish it controlled a little bit better. But nice job, either way!
I'm gonna echo what everybody has already said, the controls are kind of difficult. Because of that, movements feel sluggish (perhaps such was your intention?) But not a bad concept overall.
It's only when I zoomed out that I saw your recommendation to zoom out :D I agree with Amy about clarity, but you've got visuals and presentation down pat already. I'd say keep working on it, it'd be cool to play it on mobile.
A very relaxing game. Especially satisfying to play it after the hectic atmosphere of the last 72 hours :D
Ah, this lying dog! No matter what I do, my home gets flooded with stuff. Not bad for something you did in only five hours, I just wish there was more. You could do some really weird puzzle rooms where you need to go through the labyrinth while avoiding the chairs and TVs coming after you.
Shame about the bugs. Don't be discouraged, though! Fix the errors and I'll gladly rate your game. At the very least, the animations look smooth.
Not bad, though as everyone else said, it's quite hard. I'd like there to be more animations, but I already enjoyed what I saw.
Easy to get into and kind of fun to play, but yeah, no real connection to the LD theme.
Took me a second to get the hang of it, but man, what a nice concept for a video game! Incredible job!
Aw, gosh darn it! I wrecked my fridge!
Nice idea and really fun execution, especially for a first game jam.
A cute little game with a surprising sense of escalation. I wish it controlled better, though. But nice job regardless!
Aww, look at this cutie :D
Sometimes camera kept bugging on me, and as Alex said, I'd like to see more functionality. But overall, really nice!
Wow, I really enjoyed this one! Such a simple but beautiful concept. Well done!
I enjoy the concept, but I think the game is too easy. There should be a clear incentive to level up (despite all the drawbacks), you need to reinforce that risk-reward balance. But overall, I liked your game. Good job!
What an unorganized farmer! Who keeps their watermelons so far apart?
Nice game, I enjoyed my time with it :)
Not bad, but I wish there was a little more depth to it (like if you hit two balls of the same color, they both disappear). But nice job, regardless!
There is actually only one level, I just randomize pieces every time. I didn't have time to make this randomizer fair, though :P Sometimes it screws players up.
Thanks for playing, guys and girls!
Game is made for replaying, it pisses you off just enough to try one more time :D Tough as nails, too. Guess I'm not cut to be an astronaut. Good game!
Enjoyable. It reminded me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors + Nuclear Throne. Not a bad combo.
The theme could be implemented better, as others have said. But still, really enjoyable.
Good polish, I really liked it!
These graphics, man!
The bouncy animations make it SO enjoyable. Great polish and attention to details, makes me wish I was as dedicated as you when developing games.
The first time, I died in like two seconds. I didn't expect enemy lasers to be THIS fast. Overall, I liked it. Neat concept, has levity and good controls. The space rocks are a bit comical, though :P
Love the idea, a very nice spin on the theme. Would've liked to see more polish, but I'm guilty of that myself :P Nice job!
Came across your game thanks to your post on the main page (marketing works? who would've thunk it!), so a couple of things.
1. This starts WAY too hard. The first level should be an introductory one and needs to be beaten on the second try, tops. I understand that for a developer who plays his own game for hours on end, it's hard to gauge what's difficult and what's not, but it's better to err on the side of easy. (I really enjoyed the concept for the second level, very creative.)
2. As many other people have said, collisions could be better. I died a few times because of that.
However, I think you've made an interesting game. Would like to see a post-jam version for sure.
A very enjoyable game! It gets a little tiring listening to bones rattling all the time :P Nevertheless, I think this is one of the more interesting concepts I've seen so far.
Cool idea. UI could use some polish, though :P
Saw your game on my friend's twitter feed and wanted to check it out myself. I really liked the art and the atmosphere. The ambient music really added to it. However, I couldn't beat the game. I guess there were some bugs in the code because I managed to pick garbage three times, wasting my inventory space. Also, the item cursors are way too small.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the game as a concept. Every LD, there are tons of text games, but yours is distinct and polished enough to stand apart.
I see you banked on the Humor category :P
A very nice submission, especially for the first time. If I had to offer some advice, it'd be to calibrate the collisions. They seem wonky and unreliable.
Also, sometimes because I kept clicking, my guy would keep fighting even at zero health. Now THAT is willpower!
Really polished, in fact incredibly so. Minor issues: I'm not a fan of how the character keeps jumping if I don't release the jump button. The layout is also very tight, not a lot of room for a mistake, especially in the beginning.
I would've liked more easing in, although I have to admit your approach does contribute to the atmosphere of "Holy crap, I've got to run the hell outta here!"
Yeah, unfortunately I was short on time and had to scrap the gamepad controls. I had to scrap a lot of things, come to think of it :D
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! :)
There is a final boss and an ending in this game, but both were quickly slapped together, so no hard feelings if you don't finish it.
I wish I had more time to polish things, but oh well. Such is the nature of Ludum Dare.
Simple but fun. Definitely needs polish, but hey, that's the standard issue for most LD entries (mine included :D)
Wow, pretty interesting stuff. The judge was by far the easiest enemy :) Jumping is a bit stiff, and there are some inconsistencies (if the hero wins while in the air, he automatically teleports to the center for his victory post).
Strangely, I liked your logo the best :D But the overall idea is really solid and humor is top notch.
Took me a second to get a hang of it, but I liked it. It's a bit strange how when you have more than 10,000 points, it shows as 10K 000.
Nice work!
@wrexialmt Oh yeah, I could tell that it was concession. And to be honest, it didn't bother me too much. The game's fun to play, and that's all that matters :)
Took me some time to get into the groove, but you've got a really fun idea on your hands. Nicely done!
"Machine Gun Magazine Seed" sold me on the game :D Not the first zombie/farming combo I've seen this LD, but nice execution. I really enjoyed it.
A super interesting entry, but it gets so hard so fast. I really dig the aesthetic, though. Nice work!
Out of all the entries I've played so far, this is probably the best one. It's so simple but doesn't lack polishing. I don't feel it fits the theme that much, but all the other aspects are top notch.
Very simple graphics, but still nicely stylized. The idea, though, is quite interesting. As others said, needs some balancing for sure, but still a good entry!
