Great combination, I found it a bit difficult to match to the rythm

(Yeah the timing went to negative for some reason)
I liked how the three different levels had different music. I really like rhythm games, so I found it fun. The bar that kept pulsing at the bottom didn't mean much to me, I didn't understand what it tried to convey. When should I hit? when it gets full? Or if it gets full I miss? Something like the beats from Necrodancer works better I think. Sometimes I swear I pressed the button at the right time at the second level, but couldn't make it work. I also sometimes wondered if there was some type of cooldown to the laser, cause sometimes it would miss when I think it shouldn't (but maybe it's just that the sound it makes made me confused).
Overall quite cool game.
All the content by you? Even the music? The music is great! The first one is awesome, I love this style, what program did you use?
@sohakes thanks for the feedback and glad to see someone managed to clear a level i was worried it might be too difficult. yeah the time going to negative is some kind of bug i didn't have to time to sort out. The bar is full when you should hit, yeah I agree it doesn't work that well as a visualisation, especially at higher tempos. You should be able to shoot the lazer once per beat on the beat, if not thats another bug. Glad you liked the music, yes i made it all myself, although the melody of the first song is accidentally very similar to a dropkick murphy's song. I didn't notice I had been influenced by it till after I finished. I updated the description to list the tools. I can't recommend Reaper enough, for the cost its amazing, and Native Instruments Komplete bundle is also pretty good.
liked the idea, found the rhythms hard to match.
I dig it! Great mashup of genres! The music is excellent and I'm a fan of the pixel work. A bit of head bobbing got my timing on point and I was lighting em up haha great job!
good game (I love rithm games) I discovered that you could move multiple times on the same beat, maybe check this, and if you add some effects and a better UI for the HP and menu and stuff, is gonna be a great game! : )
@mrpenguin thanks for the feedback, moving multiple times on one beat is a bug I hadn't noticed, thanks for pointing it out, I'll fix it for a later version and probably improve the UI etc. for a post jam version too.
You managed to combine genres really well. Great music and graphics!
+1 for Reaper
actually pretty well done, but I have to say - having ctrl as the shoot button in HTML5 export sort of f'd with me with arrow keys as movement on a mac (apparently it's an alternate "view all windows" shortcut.)
It took me a while to realize that I was dying because I hit the left side of the screen, and that I had to occasionally step forwards. It's probably me being stupid, but I'd have found a note that it's harmful useful.
I thought that the visualization of the beat was easy to follow, and the "Beat Match" statistic in the bottom left corner is a great way to provide feedback to the player. Good job!
Fun!
@david-greene thanks for the feedback, sorry for your problems with the controls, no mac for testing I'm afraid. Left CTRL is a Unity default for fire, and arrow keys a default for movement, maybe less sensible defaults than I had assumed. You can actually also fire with mouse click, I updated the description just in case anyone else finds that more comfortable also.
Really fits the theme - my xbox one controller didn't work right on macos, but the keyboard controls were good. Fun game; the music could've had a bigger beat!
Interesting choice of genres and well executed. It felt really nice when you got into the rhythm, but also very frustrating whenever you lost it. Good job!
I loved the music - it made me want to keep playing the game. It was a bit hard to match the rhythm sometimes. Wasn't able to complete any level, but I'm not great at rhythm games. Overall I loved this game.
Took me some time to get into the groove, but you've got a really fun idea on your hands. Nicely done!
I'm just terrible at rhythm games, so I wasn't able to clear a single level. I got to about 1 minute remaining in each of the first two, and the final one just wrecked me. But I was happy that you included a menu at least letting me try all three!
This game has its own little charm, kind of a nice coherent feeling to the art, and the sound and music interplayed nicely. The controls felt good -- or at least they did when I was on the beat! The pressure to have to move forward as well as dodge and shoot was a nice design touch. I also liked how the game had kind of discrete rows/columns but yet it also had continuous space that the projectiles would move through. Made for some interesting dodging!
I was so bad that getting any "powerup" other than H usually killed me pretty quick, since it threw me off. ;)
But even with my bad skills this one was fun. Great job making the music, too. The second song was my favorite.
Quite an interesting game once you get a hang of it. You did a great job on the music. Producing 3 track in 72 hours, while doing all the graphics and programming too, is not an easy task to accomplish.
Great take on the theme! Cool music too. The tempo in level 3 was a bit too limiting for my taste, but I suppose that was the idea, to make it harder :) Another thing, maybe an audio feedback when the ship is moving would be cool, to really give a feeling for the rhythm as if you're playing along with the song. Overall a solid entry, keep it up!
Good game!
Hey !Good work!
Here is our game if you want to try it!https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/me-da-miedito-la-oscuridad-i-get-goosebumps-in-the-dark
Great game! It is fun even though I am not good at it (or any rhythm game). The art is simple but works really well. The game has a nice enemy variety. My only complain would be that the red bar is not very helpful, also that looking back and forth between the ship and the red bar is not easy. I would suggest to put a visual clue of the beat on the ship it self.
