LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Gather the Darkness by Jeremy Wolf 2017-12-07T12:02:04Z

Nice concept! The game is fun to play (most of the time).

Things I don't like: - Controls. In bullet hell games strafing is essential. - Sound. It's very basic. - No music. Music can help to set the mood.

EPIC Racing by MrChippy 2017-12-09T12:16:42Z

I quit the game after I collect 5 or 6 disks, music became absolutely unbearable! Which means I'll give you 5 stars in 'Theme' . On the other hand, for me it wasn't fun at all, it was annoying :(

Addicted! by Orspectral 2017-12-09T20:43:25Z

The game looks nice. And that's it. It's too incomplete to rate it in other categories.

Woods and Wolverines by Juhani Koskinen 2017-12-07T15:27:52Z

+Nice music

+OK sounds and graphics

-Enemies are stupid

-Shooting is PITA

Lux Portable by teekeks 2017-12-07T13:38:38Z

+Solid puzzle game

+Graphics and music are nice

+1 for using Godot

-1 for providing only Windows build :(

Lux Portable by teekeks 2017-12-07T17:39:41Z

@teekeks Because source code available it wasn't a big problem, just launching game took a little more time.

テッ球 T E K K Y U by simonhutchinson 2017-12-09T15:58:12Z

Music and graphics are great! Gameplay is fun. And make Pong game fun is not an easy task! But controls... not great, to say the least.

Dungeon Dealer by ponywolf 2017-12-23T19:45:39Z

Well-made game, especially considering that it was made in less then 72 hours. One thing that I find not cool is that you enabled payment option on itch. Maybe that's the reason why you have so few ratings. I personally thing it's a good idea to disable this option during jam / rate period and if you really want to, enable it when it's over.

Team or Greed? by Poller 2017-12-07T14:08:40Z

+Nice idea. The game has potential

+Split sceen multiplayer! That's impressive!

+Graphics is OK

+/-Sound effects are funny, but too few

-As already mentioned lack of feedback makes this game much less fun to play

-As you said movement and colisions are bad. No music

-For me the game crashes at some point (Linux)

Surplus Snakes by juicy_vegetable 2017-12-08T09:58:05Z

It's a very solid game (considering it was done in less than 72 hours). No particular weaknesses. Gameplay, graphics, sound - everything done well. I agree with @sbarrio, gameplay is not innovative enough and that's the game's biggest problem.

Sunken by Tay 2017-12-08T17:21:31Z

Overall it's a very well executed game. Music, sounds and graphics are great. Gameplaywise it's a bit monotonous, but that's understandable for a game made in such a short time. My only real complain is that it's hard to keep an eye on a flood level.

RQ5: backup-dancer rampage! by Adrien Dittrick 2017-12-07T12:57:03Z

Fun and challenging game. Nice tribute to Michael Jackson's Thriller :)

Things I don't like: - Controls in UPDATED version. While in the original version movement a bit slow and makes game harder, updated version ruined the idea of the game (in my opinion). - Audio clipping (background track in particular)

Money Talks by Kyoute 2017-12-09T16:56:39Z

I agree with @bart-huylebroeck that story was a bit too cliche. But why not? It fits the the theme nicely. Not a big fan of using photos as backgrounds (but that's understandable when you have only 72 hours). Characters looks great. Overall it's a solid jam entry.

Outnumbered by thebillington 2017-12-10T15:45:26Z

+Graphics is simple, but visually pleasing (nice colors) +Very responsive controls +Fun to play -Lack of sound and music

Overall, good job!

Life of Chuckles by slashie 2017-12-08T21:16:16Z

I like the idea. The story was interesting enough and I was interested to see how it ends, but the game way too hard (or I just suck at juggling?)

HP Bar by yancharkin 2017-12-07T17:44:10Z

@slashie You can't beat him :(

I used heavily modified RPG Maker MV.

HP Bar by yancharkin 2017-12-07T18:11:59Z

@juicy-vegetable Well, there is no gameplay in this "game" :) And it was a deliberate decision, I focused on creating assets this time. Hopefully I'll create real game for next Ludum Dare.

@tay I made this "game" to challenge myself. And I'm proud that I managed to finish it. But it just not a game, it's a bunch of assets put together. Also I never expected that people will play it. That's a pleasant surprise!

@tulipekoni @eidovolta Thank you for your kind words!

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Mini Running Ant by drludos 2024-10-16T18:55:17Z

You nailed the theme! My only complaint is that it seems in some situations it’s impossible (or nearly impossible) to survive.

Lily Adventuresses! Episode 2: Rise of the Arcritters [Prologue] by moonlightbomber 2024-10-15T17:28:19Z

Nothing groundbreaking, but it's a nice story-oriented game. Well done!

fishbone by NotExplosive 2024-10-12T19:19:47Z

Very technically impressive! And way more interesting than I thought it would be.

Fly's Revengeria by jward 2024-10-12T20:44:57Z

Ha-ha-ha! It’s fun but also sad :( Maybe it’s a bit too easy, but otherwise it’s good. I think you should expand on the idea.

Fastigrades by Kyrio 2024-10-19T14:27:14Z

Simple but much more addictive gameplay than it appears at first. Great job!

Forest Tower Defense by shared 2024-10-21T20:01:56Z

At the moment, it's a pretty standard tower defense game, but it’s well-implemented. You could definitely build something more interesting upon it, maybe add some kind of twist? The graphics are cute.

My Homie the Gnomie by kazuo256 2024-10-13T20:48:44Z

The game looks cute! I didn’t understand what to do either. I think it would be a good idea to create a tutorial level. Are there sounds and music, or is there a problem on my end?

Crazy Critters by freso 2024-10-20T15:37:00Z

Great concept for a game! Right now, there is absolutely no challenge; it’s too easy. However, it’s a good foundation on which you can build something truly amazing.

Juicy rollers by smiley 2024-10-08T22:46:53Z

It’s very impressive that you managed to create this kind of game in such a short time. The music is catchy

Fifty Six LilyPads by dhim 2024-10-08T21:53:36Z

Nice!

Skyward Soar by Hybitous 2024-10-22T19:52:17Z

The game is promising but in a rough state right now. For me, the mouse sensitivity was crazy. Still, for a jam game, it’s a very good job!

Sprite Containment by epb9000 2024-10-15T18:15:10Z

Great audio and graphics! Fun gameplay, I really like it

Twisted Pairs by yancharkin 2024-10-07T23:13:01Z

@ayamari I never tried to hide it. It should be obvious to most, shouldn’t it? Still, I did a lot more work than just using these images as they are. I don't think it's necessarily true that if you're using AI-generated images, you haven't done any work on the graphics. However, it’s probably a good idea to add a disclaimer to the description.

Twisted Pairs by yancharkin 2024-10-22T07:49:23Z

@skleembof Thanks for the feedback! Actually, I expected nothing from the cockroach mechanic; it was pure improvisation. :) But it sort of works, as every round the cockroaches' speed increases, making it much more likely to splat one (you probably didn't play long enough, which is understandable). Also, I added one more mechanic to the post-jam version. The game is already difficult enough, I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to reach round 10. BUT your idea is great, and since I'm planning to make at least one more post-jam release, it’s likely I’ll use it. Thanks again!

Survive The Night by Dan Davis 2024-10-11T17:09:32Z

Visually, the game looks mostly good. The gameplay isn’t as impressive, but with a few improvements, it could be much better.

SolarFactory by LarrySeinfeld 2024-10-15T17:43:23Z

Certainly not a bad game; with a little more work, it could be really good.

Three Tiny Toblins by NightmaresDev 2024-10-21T21:30:54Z

Cool graphics and sound, solid game mechanics! I think you should definitely make a full game out of this: add more levels and music. And, of course, fix glitches and bugs; during my short play session, the poor toblins got stuck inside walls more than once.

Shadow of the itty-bitties by Kaish 2024-10-15T17:59:43Z

I love the aesthetics, sound design, and music. The gameplay, while simple, is also enjoyable. I'm very impressed!

Sorcerer's Tower by MaxDrago 2024-10-22T20:13:48Z

The game looks interesting (and impressive for a solo developer). Sadly, I can’t play it since I’m on Linux (and a potato PC ), and it won’t launch. I assume it’s too much hassle to make a Linux version, right?

Sorcerer's Tower by MaxDrago 2024-10-23T08:19:52Z

I managed to launch the game using DXVK — it's hit and miss on my potato laptop, and more often miss, but in this case, it actually works.

So here is my review:

You made a 3D RPG that is somewhat functional as a solo developer during a weekend jam. It's an achievement in itself. Congratulations! You are crazy (in a good way)! Obviously, the game is rough around the edges but looks promising. For me, the showstopper was the very long attack recharge. The graphics are charming and have an early PC 3D games vibe, which makes it stand apart from retro pixel art or PSX-style graphics. Overall, good job!

Mini Monster Market by mira 2024-10-21T15:48:39Z

I don't know if it's broken just for me, but the order of the creatures appearing in the crates matches the customers' requests. This leaves very little reason to use the chests — maybe just the 2 to 4 closest ones to save a few seconds. Otherwise, it’s a solid entry: good graphics and sound. With a few tweaks, the gameplay could be improved as well.

Dino Island Safari by Skleembof 2024-10-22T08:34:35Z

Very cool game! Especially the updated version (though the jam version was a great foundation). It’s good for what it is. I can only imagine how fun it is with a light gun. A bit of polish, more levels, bug fixes, and maybe some original music are all it needs right now (oops, that’s actually a lot of work :face_palm:).

P.S. The voice acting was indeed Hollywood quality! :smirk:

tiny little league by hulien22 2024-10-21T14:36:34Z

Pure madness. Like it!

Corgis Heaven by Astoeth 2024-10-21T20:46:15Z

Very impressive pixel art for non-artists! As for the gameplay, I went bankrupt quite quickly... Apparently, breeding corgis is not what I should be doing in life! :smile_cat:

Tardi In SPACE by zappablamma 2024-10-17T07:44:43Z

Cool! And actually fun to play!

g.png

Magical Girl Danmaku Dandelina by alpacalypse 2024-10-09T21:36:18Z

I like it! Too bad I’m not very good at this kind of game, so I didn’t get too far :(

Bee Hold by Defrag 2024-10-10T16:46:08Z

The graphics are cute, and the gameplay is good enough to play at least a few rounds. For a game made during the jam, it’s not bad at all.

Autopsy Center Simulator by Roroto Sic 2024-10-19T14:09:29Z

Gameplay is not my cup of tea, but I can tell that it is a well-made game. I like the graphics and audio.

P.S. In case you don't know, the Godot Threads HTML5 export works much better (on Itch you have to enable 'SharedArrayBuffer').

Swarmaggeddon by Do3naut 2024-10-21T21:55:27Z

Good music and interesting, polished gameplay. It's quite challenging!

AFTER HOURS by seltzerfish 2024-10-16T17:50:26Z

Right now, it's my favorite game of this jam.

Five Feet Under by Saumon 2024-10-09T21:17:02Z

A decent game. Congratulations! However, if you are cautious and move slowly, it is possible to avoid any danger completely. This is probably not what you planned.

Farmer Friendly Ladybug by Tharinda Kodikara 2024-10-08T22:58:47Z

I agree with @jesse-martin; the spider's random movement will make the game way more interesting. Also, maybe make the leaf a bit more leafy in shape? Otherwise, good job — congrats!

ORK SANTA BRING GIFT by Mayple 2024-10-08T22:18:52Z

Sounds are funny! Why did you opt out of the 'Audio' category? It includes more than just music.

Bactoria by GiomomoGiovanna 2024-10-17T19:54:29Z

Great graphics and audio! Right now, the game is very simple, but it has a lot of potential if you decide to develop it further.

Ants! by Emilija Marija 2024-10-24T19:34:41Z

It's a simple but surprisingly fun game! Congratulations! If you have any ideas for developing this game further, please do — it would be a waste to abandon it.

Turdvivor by Fork on the Table Studios 2024-10-21T16:17:00Z

Ha-ha-ha! Unexpected interpretation of the theme. A breath of not-so-fresh air

Tiny Dirty Tricks by Pimping 2024-10-24T06:44:39Z

The game looks really cool! The sound design is spot on, too. The gameplay is okay, but there are quite a few little things that make it less enjoyable: - Controls: Often, you drop a person in the wrong cauldron not because of your mistake, but because you have to fight against the controls. - Feedback: There’s little feedback on your actions, making it hard to understand what’s going on. - Cauldron Distinction: It’s not easy to distinguish between cauldrons since the colors are very similar. Apart from changing the colors, you might consider adding colored steam above the cauldrons or at least replacing the numbers with the actual names of the sins. I think this would greatly improve the experience.

Critter Gang by lastsecondgames 2024-10-10T15:59:24Z

A very well-made game; there isn’t much to add.

Ink Rebels by perka 2024-10-08T22:30:43Z

Nice! But hard... But nice

Tiny Bug by holzez 2024-10-21T16:00:54Z

Simple yet stylish graphics

Alice's Tiny Adventure by Weird Orb 2024-10-21T15:05:15Z

Your interpretation of the theme was original (unlike most entries), and you used music in a creative way — I like that. The graphics are a bit inconsistent, but Alice and the cat are cute. The gameplay isn't amazing, but it's okay for a jam game. Overall, good job and congratulations!

Rat Chase by jaken007 2024-10-10T16:15:04Z

I agree with @oxropy; it's a bit annoying that you need to use the mouse to restart the game. Otherwise, it's a nice little time-killer.

LD57 — Depths

Descendant by silkworm_sweatshop 2025-04-13T13:25:12Z

Awesome game! I didn’t really spot any flaws. It might be a bit too hard — but hey, maybe that’s a plus for genre lovers.

Deepest Canyon by muriel 2025-04-13T21:30:16Z

Sometimes I failed to grapple when it looked like I should - not sure if it’s just me or if there’s a small issue. Also, having some music would be a nice addition. Otherwise, it’s a pretty fun game!

Tidehold by outstar 2025-04-15T14:33:46Z

Super chill and meditative. The gameplay, art, music and sound all work together really nicely.

SpeleoloGraph by Bismark 2025-04-09T14:27:18Z

I agree with @roxxorxx - the pace is a bit too slow. Otherwise, it’s quite an enjoyable game! It could benefit from adding some sounds and music. The graphics are kind of cool, though maybe something a bit less abstract could work better - but I’m not entirely sure about that.

Focus Hunt by dhim 2025-04-13T21:56:36Z

Not really my kind of game, but it’s technically impressive and cute. The fact that you made it for your daughter is extra cool!

Down Wheel by neowhoru 2025-04-11T21:08:41Z

So hard! But a cool game! It somehow gave me 'LISA: The Painful' vibes.

Money Maker 2025 by yancharkin 2025-04-08T16:05:25Z

@bismark Good old gold. Maybe we’ll be using it again soon enough 😄

@duckmaniac I was planning to add it - just didn’t have the time. I’ll likely include it in the post-jam version.

Money Maker 2025 by yancharkin 2025-04-09T00:29:22Z

@batthecat Heck yeah, amigo! 😄

Money Maker 2025 by yancharkin 2025-04-11T20:53:09Z

@neowhoru Yeah, that was the plan — just didn’t have enough time to get it in.

Money Maker 2025 by yancharkin 2025-04-19T10:12:35Z

@mod-wiz Ha-ha-ha, nice one! I confirm that everything you said is 100% correct.

A Soggy Situation by SvenErik 2025-04-13T21:16:19Z

Ha-ha-ha! I had a feeling it would end that way. Lucky no one was around while I was playing - I probably looked hilarious!

Depths of Hell by GabrielGameDev 2025-04-09T00:27:27Z

Very impressive feature set for a jam game. Nice visuals and music! One issue I had was that after dying (and I died a lot), you’re sent back to the menu and have to go through quite a few clicks to get back into the game. Otherwise - bom trabalho!

AsterVoid by GameDevTraum 2025-04-10T11:27:03Z

Everything is cool — the graphics, audio, music, and atmosphere are all great. But the controls definitely need fixing; for me, it was almost unplayable.

Enigmarine by Willby 2025-04-08T16:42:01Z

I ended up spending more time on this game than I expected :) Really impressed by the visuals and sound design — great work!

The Depths of Gitche Gumee by Deruitda 2025-04-08T23:46:09Z

Such a chill atmosphere. Absolutely love the vibe!

Goblin Quest by rickylee 2025-04-21T23:32:12Z

The game’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s cool overall. With some polish, it could turn into a pretty solid time killer.

Fifty Floors of Flavor by Hulya 2025-04-08T16:18:04Z

Didn’t expect that level of depth!:thumbsup:

Johnny Depths by Aeoncl 2025-04-09T00:05:55Z

Congrats on your first LD! You packed in a lot of gameplay elements - great job!

Ad Light by jtap 2025-04-13T20:38:55Z

Simple, yet fulfilling gameplay. Nice art style - it made me smile.

Game and Physics: Water Cat by MoD_Wiz 2025-04-19T10:30:20Z

Super solid and polished game - especially impressive for a jam! The cat’s animation is absolutely charming.

Echo Dive by Ricesteam 2025-04-09T22:21:53Z

Even though you didn’t create the assets yourself, you clearly know how to use them — not everyone can pull that off. The visuals and sound are really well done. The gameplay is a bit repetitive and could use more variety, but that’s totally understandable given that it was made during a jam (and I’m sure you’re already aware of that). I think if you implement everything you originally intended, it’ll turn into a solid game.

West Coast '96: CIBUS DAEMONUM by rbbhn 2025-04-23T16:02:47Z

Not exactly a game, but the aesthetics are cool. I like it.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Shuttle Launch by Tero Pulkkinen 2018-04-29T19:09:10Z

Your game has some strange charm. But I'll be honest - I don't get it. :-) I collected and transferred 100 points, but shuttle crashed anyway.

Rogue Party by kippllo 2018-04-25T12:14:37Z

Sorry, can't play your game - I'm using Linux. I tried to download source and build the game for Linux, but that build was unplayable.

TETRITION by Cody1712 2018-04-24T14:54:16Z

Really fun game! One problem I had is that key for rotating block wasn't obvious (at least for me): I expected "Space".

TETRITION by Cody1712 2018-04-24T15:21:03Z

I think it's a good idea to include info about controls somewhere (maybe in the description?) for those of us who last time played tetris using something like this:

tetris.jpg

Click Click Clutch - an idle clicker racing game by SupremeKurt 2018-04-24T16:35:17Z

The game is OK and fits the theme nicely. But progress is REALLY slow, after first upgrade I quit playing, because it looks like it will take a lot of time to complete even first challenge.

Graveyard dates by Adrien Dittrick 2018-04-24T21:17:56Z

Interesting concept. You totally nailed the theme!

Brilliant idea! My highest score was ~77

Text Royale: The Ultimate Type or Death Fight by Rob White 2018-05-07T09:04:12Z

Very cool! One of my favourite entries of the jam.

Point-defense Hell by PolyHatSteve 2018-04-28T10:21:03Z

I'm not a big fan of bullet-hell games, but I enjoyed this game quite a bit! "Tower Defense" element makes the game much more interesting.

Fellow Campers by alignright 2018-04-27T10:00:52Z

Very cool! Good humor. I have no one to play with, but I can imagine how fun this game can be.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-24T14:46:03Z

@yinyin Different timbres make the game harder than it looks at first glance. Also I was in a hurry and didn't tuned my ukulele the way I should (some notes wrong up to 10 percents), that doesn't help in battles as well. If I'll continue developing this game, I'll fix this issues.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-24T16:10:12Z

@antoniomm The game is made in Godot and in my experience web export is not this engine's strongest side. I published it hoping that it will work at least for some people, but I really recommend to use desktop builds.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-24T16:28:51Z

@le-slo Yes, some strings a bit out of tune (~10 percents), but it should not ruin experience completely. And tiny trees is in fact bushes, so it's OK for them to be tiny :) I'm aware of the bugs you encountered, but I have no idea what causes them - I'm new to Godot engine and to gamedev in general.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-25T14:58:43Z

@quijipixel Thanks for the idea, I'll think about it.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-28T08:35:36Z

@polyhatsteve @automatonvx Thanks for the ideas! There is a good chance that I'll continue developing this game, in that case this ideas may become useful.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-28T17:23:58Z

@pogo @roka-josh Yeah, I know in its current state the game is not very entertaining (and buggy!), hopefully I'll fix it in the future. Thanks for the feedback.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-04-30T09:02:10Z

@amazura I think I have a clue why sound gets distorted, I'll try to fix that in the future releases.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-05-01T09:27:58Z

@niterich I'd like to remake the game from the scratch in the future. I'll take your idea into consideration.

Shattered Melodies by yancharkin 2018-05-06T08:47:14Z

@erikkire Yeah, it's probably a good idea.

@guckstift Thanks for the ideas! I'd like to improve the game (but not sure I'd have a time for it).

@rob-white I'll think of a way to make the game playable for people of all music skills. Ideally it should be able to help them to improve their skills. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I like the concept a lot. Right now implementation not perfect, but that's understandable for a jam game.

Pros: + Dialogs are good written + SFX are funny

Cons: - Gameplay a bit too repetitive - No music

Nice idea, implementation a bit lacking, but if you'll work on it more, it can become a great game.

Game looks great (especially for a game created in such short amount of time)! Gameplay too basic, but that can (and will?) be fixed, right?

Game looks really good! It becomes a bit too easy when you understand that every enemy type has only one type of attack, but other than that, good job!

Cool! Simple, but addictive gameplay.

Holding Aces: The Card Game Shoot-em-Up! by NerdyTea 2018-04-24T15:44:48Z

Nice little game. Good job!

Some remarks: - Small fancy font used in the intro a bit hard to read - I can't see how your game related to the theme

Red Rock Harvest by popcorn_hat 2018-04-28T12:38:16Z

Graphics is great. Gameplay and music too monotonous to my taste. But for a game made in such short amount of time, it still very impressive.

Rythmic Shooter LD41 by Zicman 2018-04-24T17:29:53Z

Both graphics and sound are good. The game is difficult, but that's not a bad thing, right? With some improvement it can become a really good game.

Simply amazingly well done game!

Soccer Zombie Shootout by drikdrok 2018-04-26T22:00:26Z

Fun game, I enjoyed it. For me there is only one serious flaw: opposing team's AI not great, it's really easy to score a goal.

Cool art!

Problem I encountered (blurry text):

Problem disappear if game window switches to/from fullscreen mode.

Graphics looks decent. Jumping is a bit annoying, but bearable. I don't get what's the game objective, am I missing something?

@victrola-sage Good to know that I'm not stupid :)
