Nice game, especially the visuals and the nice soundtrack that make a great ambience together :). I mean you can see that it isnt really finished but I think it has quite a bit potential.

guilhem 2018-04-27 10:27

Really nice mood! The music and the graphics are catchy! The controls or the overall rythm could be improved but it is really impressing for a game made in so little time. Well done!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 10:30

@Guilhem Cheers! I agree the controls were something I always felt were slightly off while I was making this and I'll experiment further with control schemes for future projects as well as this one :)

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 10:36

@Lodugh Thanks for the comment! I appreciate your comment regarding potential and I'll definitely be looking to get a more completed game experience made during the next game jam for a new project!

myrrysmiesi 2018-04-27 10:41

Gorgeous graphics, boring gameplay :) tower defense is nothing without strategy which doesn't exist with only one type of tower and enemy. It's really a show of skill with modelling and texturing and I find it unbelievable that one person did this in a weekend (I'm still a noob when it comes to 3d) but it's not really an enjoyable game yet.

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 10:58

@Myrrysmiesi Appreciate the kind comments and feedback! You're completely right that the game isn't particularly enjoyable since there is no depth beyond literally the basics (Single tower, crop, and enemy) and for next time I'll certainly focus more on the content side of things rather than spend most of my time on the visuals.

mathiouza 2018-04-27 11:43

Really nice athmospheric game ! I really like the graphism and the music too.The gameplay is simple but works well and the theme is respected. Cool game :)

Keep coding :)

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 11:46

@Mathiouza Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the game!

shaw 2018-04-27 11:46

Really enjoy the visuals of this game and can see the potential here. Some expanded gameplay and refinement would make this a seriously enjoyable game. The concept is there and the art is great. Good Job.

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 11:50

@shaw Hey, thanks for checking out the game! Glad you like the visuals and I certainly have more content in mind.

artiko 2018-04-27 12:48

Very good game. Nothing bad to say, so good work!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 12:49

@Artiko Thanks for the kind words!

markopolodev 2018-04-27 14:06

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but I can't find your linux or mac executables. Are they hidden on the itch page or something?

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 14:22

@MarkoPoloDev My apologies! The mac and linux versions should now be showing up!

markopolodev 2018-04-27 14:33

@popcorn-hat got it, thanks!

I am getting a "not optimized for your mac" warning that looks like it's a complaint about the lack of 64-bit: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436

I can still play the game, though  although my laptop doesn't seem to be able to handle it very well

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 14:42

@MarkoPoloDev Ah thanks for the heads-up, I've uploaded a 64-bit compatible version for mac now! As for the game performance I'm sorry to hear your laptop can't handle it well :frowning2: since I was quite pushed for time I couldn't really dedicate any time to optimizing the game to meet the deadline for the jam. Optimization will certainly be a priority once I continue working on the game!

kaytrill 2018-04-27 14:55

This is a good game that I easily get lost in. I absolutely love the audio. Furthermore it misses some content and tool-tips, and the basic movement and building is a bit awkward.

popcorn-hat 2018-04-27 15:08

@kaytrill Hello! Thanks for the comment, and I greatly appreciate your feedback! I'm currently looking at improving everything you have mentioned for future versions.

darkwing00duck 2018-04-27 15:15

Very lovely game! It makes me feel dellight. Ranch on Mars and defence against Marsians. Cute main character and a pleasant soundtrack. I Wish you further unwinding and improvement of the project.:) Good luck to you!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 01:31

@Darkwing00Duck Thanks so much!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-28 03:37

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

jimmothysanchez 2018-04-28 03:42

Great game. I found it oddly relaxing. Its a great basis if you ever feel like going back and adding more variety to the weapons, plants, or ,monsters

axe 2018-04-28 03:44

This is such a comfy game! I loved the way it was put together. The Gameplay is suuuper basic but a rock solid foundation. The art style is a bit directionless and could use a lot of unification. pixel gradient crops. Handpainted props. toony skeletons and just flat animationless turrets. all of those are a few hours a pop to make them really juiced. i hope you continue on this project!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 03:53

@cristiano.m.garcia Thanks for the comment!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 03:54

@jimmothysanchez Thanks! This is certainly just a prototype and I have much more content planned for if I continue working on it!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 03:57

@Axe Hello! I agree with you with regards to the art style, since a few of the assets I used were assets I had created prior to the game jam for different projects which had their own separate art styles, and other assets in this project I wanted to just get placeholders sorted so I could focus on getting the core mechanics down but didn't have the time to go back and remake them. Thanks for the feedback!

robowarrior1982 2018-04-28 10:21

A game really well done! The cartoon atmosphere makes good! The music is cool but it should change in the attack phase (I guess you have not had time to do it). The little explanation in cinematic mode is great!

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 10:43

@ROBOWARRIOR1982 Thanks for checking out the game and for the comment!

yancharkin 2018-04-28 12:38

Graphics is great. Gameplay and music too monotonous to my taste. But for a game made in such short amount of time, it still very impressive.

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 13:33

@yancharkin Thanks for playing and I appreciate the feedback!

saiodin 2018-04-28 13:59

Good atmosphere, cute graphics and nice combination of themes, but like you said yourself not much content and because of that it's all pretty stale. The gameplay is mostly waiting, the character moves very slowly. For something like this you have to figure out if it's supposed to be chill or hectic I think. I would probably give the player the ability to do something while the waves are coming. Like Sanctum either give the main character also a weapon to help defending or make him have to interact with the crops during the waves.

piller-yann 2018-04-28 14:03

A very beautiful game. The concept has potential. And the tutorial is very well done. We'd have to vary the turret/cereal/enemy types, that'd be cool. The player controls and camera are really laborious. To improve this, the player would have to move in the direction of the camera's view.

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 14:07

@saiodin Thanks for the feedback! I had originally planned to have more of the gameplay focus on the crop/farming part during waves and depending on how well your crops are in terms of health and value determined any powers or upgrades you could apply to the turrets. This could all be done during or after a wave (provided the crops have already grown since they will not grow unless a wave has already begun). However yeah, since there is little content available I couldn't really get this farming aspect across in a way that made too much of an impact on how the game would play out other than more crops = more turrets like it is currently. Again I appreciate your feedback and thanks for playing :)

popcorn-hat 2018-04-28 14:09

@Piller Yann Appreciate the kind words and feedback! I had a lot more content planned that I hadn't had time to implement during the jam and the controls and camera which I agree certainly agree need further working on.

manbeardgames 2018-04-28 15:23

**Graphics**

The graphics were really charming. I enjoyed the layout of the map, and the placements of environmental objects like the buildings and the barrels.

**Audio**

I know you removed audio from the ratings, but just wanted to say that the music you choose was a good fit. Sound effects were good to.

**Controls**

I usually dislike controls where W is just move forward and you rotate around with A and D, however, it didn't feel out of place here. Once I got the camera into a position i liked, i just locked it there by staying in Building mode and move around as I wanted.

**Gameplay**

For a prototype, you've got a really solid foundation for the gameplay. Overall, it wasn't challenging, but with some polish this could be really fun. At first, having to go back and forth between harvesting and worrying if I had enough cannon placements was a neat challenging, but around wave 5, it wasn't much of a challenge anymore. Even the bosses seemed to go down much quicker than I felt they should have. Maybe could have slightly increased their health or how much damage they take from a shot with each wave?

I say that, because by wave 20 (see pic below), nothing was even able to make it past the first small group of cannons.

**Small Bug**

One small bug I found was that if you press esc to bring up the pause menu while the ">>" is active on the screen from speeding up the game, the buttons on the pause menu can't be clicked. This was done in Unity, so my best guess is that the ">>" image on the UI is blocking the mouse raycast to the buttons preventing them from being click. Maybe move it behind the buttons on the canvas or disable it being shown when game is paused?

**Overall**

Like I said before, you have a solid foundation to build on now with this prototype. It was enjoyable to play and see what you've done with this, and I look forward to what you make of this in the future.

Also, I think this pic means I won right?

@ManBeardGames Hey thanks for checking out the game! I really appreciate your write-up for each category, and judging by that pic it definitely looks like you've won since I haven't added an actual win condition yet :)
