Really polished game. A Challenging and funny boss fight. The enemies have great movepool, it feels great to learn their pattern. The character and music are top notch. Congratulation !
Very impressed by how crisp controls felt on gamepad--facing while jumping, canceling jumps, etc. The moving cloud scene was the hardest to platform while dodging the projectiles with how high the top clouds are. I was able to beat the other two bosses. I love the personality and vibes.
Really cool art style. well done!
Incredible art work and functional gameplay! Good JoB!
I don't know why, but the controls don't work for me, unfortunately. I have an Xbox One controller, a classic one. I rebooted the computer just in case, but it didn't help. Any advice?
Love the menu music tho ;)
Challenging!
Love the vibe and art style ! The music trully sets the vibe too ! I love the variety of bosses, they're all really great :D It lacks a bit of options (dash, def...), of balancing (too many HP on bosses in my opinion) and of signs/feedbacks (patterns are sometimes hard to read / damage feedback is not very clear) But the amout of content on the other hand is pretty impressive :o Thanks for your game, take care :D
The bear and coyote were interesting I found a couple of bugs, but they are not critical. the idea and mechanics of the game are great, a very dynamic game I didn't really like the bird, but the second phase was epic, lol By the way, thanks for the gamepad support. It was really convenient
Great job! Fun game and very good boss design. Being able to tell what attack the boss is going to do is essential in this kind of game and I think you did a great job at that
Amazing art style!
The fights are nice but they get a bit repetitive. I also find them a bit difficult but it remind me of Cuphead, I like it.
The hero's control is well-tuned, you can feel the inspiration from "Cuphead," the boss battles are interesting but seem a bit prolonged(?)
It would also be nice to see a regular level with enemies and traps instead of just a boss level.
The artistic style and musical accompaniment are top-notch!
It really made me feel like a game journalist playing Cuphead tutorial, and that says something by itself Art rally sells the game, would love if this whole 20-s/30-s America vibe would be even more pronounced in the game. Without a doubt it could be made into something great!
Fun game, the music was great!
Great game! 🎮 I really liked the unique art style and the atmosphere that the music creates. 🎶 The bosses are very interesting and well designed, each with their own character! Although the game is difficult in places, this only adds interest! 💪 The controls are clear and responsive, which makes it easy to cope with fights. 👍 A little more variety in mechanics and levels would not hurt, but overall this is a great project! 🌟 Congratulations to the team on such a high-quality result!
I am not sure I have the patients to defeat all the bosses but after sometime I got the first two. The overall design of the bosses is good and interesting. The art is really nice and the theme is fit strongly by the game.
The animations are great and I really like the design of the characters and feel of their animations.
Overall I really liked this entry but my nitpicks with this game are: * The damage indication feels slightly weak. Hard to tell when you have taken damage unless looking at the HP indicator. * The Wolf attacks were not as well choreographed as the others. The two slash moves for example was not obvious from a little glance if it was high or low. * Controls felt a little floaty like sometime I would feel like the movement was not precised enough for the platforming. * Hit boxes for our character seemed a little big or maybe just the attack hit boxes are too large. Undersizing them always feels nicer to play even if not true to the attacks. * First phase of the second boss dragged on a little. If the wind pull move was slightly less strong you could get more damage in that phase. * Difficulty was a little high for my liking when you consider it was a game jam game. Not sure everyone is going to want to put the time in to understand the fights well enough to finish the game. * I have an ultra-wide and the controls screen got cut off due to the scaling. Forcing a 16:9 aspect ration would have been better for me.
Really well designed and I really like the animation on the bosses. Great job
Thanks a ton for the feedback everyone! Working to patch up some of the consistent issues we are seeing.
Cool idea! Super!
Hey! Cool game! The music was really top notch. I liked the character designs, and the menu navigation was very sleek. The boss fight designs were very neat and nicely considered. I think Immortal Phoenix was my favourite.
I think the game is a bit too hard, though. While the I-frames were generous, I think there wasn't enough telegraphing for me to feel like I could do much about some of the attacks, especially in the coyote fight. I was constantly wishing I had a dash move, or some way to correct my positioning at the last second. I also found not being able to attack upwards pretty hindering during the first phase of the peacock fight.
Really cool designs here, tough gameplay, and a great submission to this LD. Thanks for sharing!
THE SPRITES are adorable!! The theming is on point and the creatures have so much flair
Amazing game! A lot like cuphead and difficult. Graphics and Music are top notch.
I have to say, I really enjoyed all the boss fights in your game, especially the second phase of the bird. The gameplay was amazing overall. Interestingly, our game is quite similar to yours—it's also a boss-rush and even has a similar name, Critter Conflict. It was fascinating to see the parallels. Keep up the great work!
Amazing pixel art!
This game is really polished and has a nice art style. I found some of the fights get repetitive, but overall, I really liked it. Great entry!
I really like the art style. The music is so good, really
I didn't do too well, but I had fun nevertheless! I would have LOVED to see a full Noir, Art-Deco flavor through the entire game. CRITTER GANG FOR LYFE.
the graphic looks really professional, i like the cover, great work!
The boss design was really good and the controls felt tight. I don't think I'm good enough to beat the 2nd phase of the Peacock level. Great game.
The balance between difficulty and reward is just right, ensuring that players never feel overwhelmed or underchallenged.
Impressive to have this kind of balance in such a short amount of time. That's always difficult to get right :) Loved the art style, game-play with good variety and great sounds, super good work :)
Beautiful drawings and a cool fighting game. Well done! Keep up the good work. Everything is top notch, both graphics and gameplay, there is even a tutorial. The game is holistic enough for ludum)
As everyone else has said, this game is well-balanced, especially after you know the boss patterns. The art and music played very well into the mafia theme. Unfortunately, I was playing with touchpad because I didn't have a mouse x_X, so it was tough to beat the bird phase 1. Evidently, I died in phase 2, but it was really cool to see what attacks it had. Overall, a really well-made game for LD.
Not sure if it was a bug or intended, but I kept pressing W to jump but only space worked. Also wish there was a key i could press to fire... or I could just get a mouse
Great stuff! Game played well, was decently challenging, and had great art and sound. Some sound effects carried over a bit too long, or into other tries, but not a huge deal. The fights were varied and fun. Nice work!
Really cool and challenging game. Gives me Cuphead style vibes with the boss battles. Good sound, UI, and art style. Well executed and challenging!
This is awesome! It really feels like a fully fleshed out experience!
Controls are tight and it feels good to be jumping around and weaving through danger. and the artwork is great!
Oddly enough I had the least amount of trouble with the final boss. But I also feel like it was the best designed battle. When you first enter his level it feels much better because his attacks are better telegraphed, making his attack patterns much more digestible compared to the other two.
Really great work, and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!
THE BIRD IS THE WORST (compliment) I think others might've said it but some noise on getting hit or making the character flash white makes it easier to tell a heart has been lost in the chaos of projectiles. Some more stuff like minor sound bugs and are you supposed to use the ult twice before it starts recharging? Because on my end using it once turns it to look empty and I get to use it again before it starts the cooldown.
Most enjoyable boss, Bear. Most ~~annoying~~ difficult boss, Peanix. (its a certified wall, gg)
The bird boss was definitely the hardest for me, but in a good way! I think clearer damage feedback, like a sound or flash, would help since it’s easy to miss losing a heart with all the projectiles. Also noticed a bug with the ultimate—looks empty after one use, but I could use it again before it recharged. Loved the bear fight the most; super fun and challenging!
Thank you guys for all of the feedback, I would like to mention a couple things, the bird has been nerfed for our postjam version we are working on, the special refresh bug that has been mentioned a few times has been fixed, and we are working on mastering the sound better so you don't lose your ears to those one or two really loud attacks(sorry)
A very well-made game; there isn’t much to add.
Cuphead is a great game to take inspiration from, and this game does a good job of capturing a similar charm. The animation is really well done, and all the enemies are unique in both gameplay and design. The gangsters are easy to hate, and the battles feel well-thought-out. In other words, it's a solid game! Well done!
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH the music touches my soooooooooooooul
Feels quite Cuphead adjacent in tone and style, I like the woodland creature mafia a lot, great personality in Critter Gang. I wish there was just a little more feedback when getting hit, not a full knockback thing of course, but perhaps some little visual blip when I get walloped and clawed. It's tough, but doesn't feel super unfair as each boss has a decent amount of lead time into their attacks. I like how they change it up every now and again, gave the characters a little extra personality.
The character designs are among my favorite in the jam!
Nice art :). I found the game a bit too difficult for the current amount of feedback.
Coopl implementation of boss battles! The first phase of the peacock fight felt rather long, so it would probably be good to give the player a savepoint after that
Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to watch it again in the future heres the vod of the stream (timestamped to your game)

Also Wanted to ask if youre fine with me using gameplay + music from the game in this LDs [score chasers tournament](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/$405421/ludum-dare-score-chasers-qualification-begins) intermission video. (Would play in the breaks of the tournament on my stream). Last year for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuddhZScWxo
Wow, really tight and complete for a game jam. Obviously hard as nails, but when you're celebrating Cuphead that feels kind of par for the course.
Although it looks like it wasn't in-house, I loved the music selection in terms of reinforcing the overall aesthetic. Art was obviously a big plus, and controls were tight, though it felt difficult at times to marry up shooting in the right direction with maneuvering my character, though I wish I was playing on keyboard so maybe didn't quite get the optimal experience.
Bosses were really developed with really different level aesthetics and designs. Really thorough stuff... well done all!
nice art style!
@ategon Go for it, thanks!
Nice game,very interesting plot!!!!Nice job!!!!
Hey just a heads up that you should opt out of audio since you didnt make the music used during the event (also probably credit it somewhere, only noticed cause of youtube content id) Screenshot 2024-10-19 133150.png
@ategon Thanks for bringing that up, we will do this. We used music that was a part of a commercial stock license that we own. Sorry that youtube content ID was triggered!
Its good I dont monetize things on youtube so it doesnt affect me at all, just lets me know the song
i will wait for a new MK from u guys))
