LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Dangled by ansoneh 2020-10-06T04:15:29Z

This music is my JAM! Struggled quite a bit to get past the first level, but had a fun time trying! Nice game.

Break The Loop by paulhocker 2020-10-06T03:33:31Z

Well, colour me impressed!

This is everything a Ludum Dare game wants to be: snappy, clean, effective and polished. Great use of theme, and a really fun time. As others have said before, SFX is delightful, and visuals read really well.

Fantastic stuff.

Faithless Land by Swynfel 2020-10-06T03:03:16Z

This is such a genuinely exciting concept!

The gameplay is really fun, and the elemental cards have really great interplay between them. The game design is really clear, and its simplicity is very impressive.

The theme is wonderful, and the card design is elegant. I like the art style a lot, but I agree with above posters about audio. Some sfx would add much needed impact to gameplay.

Really, really nicely done; this is the kind of game design that sticks with you for a while.

Loop Bulb by ZOMBIEBUST3R 2020-10-06T04:31:58Z

"This game makes you really feel like a dad" - IGN

Joking aside, this is some very impressive work on visuals and sound design. The details and aesthetic you've cultivated is quite transporting. I don't really understand the gameplay however. Are you supposed to complete the sequence of tasks before dinner is called? Great stuff!

SPACE ORBIT by Guldfisk 2020-10-05T21:41:25Z

This is an incredible game!

It feels very fluid and fun to glide around and explore the solar system. The camera action is really satisfying, and you've established a great sense of scale. The gravity and momentum are very well implemented-- It feels scary to get close to the larger planets.

I love the attention to detail, too. Things like the navigation lights on the ship, the orientation arrow, the little pull of fuel towards your ship, and the in-game start screen all add a very nice polish to a very strong game.

Maybe I'm a potato, but the game is very hard; that's my only criticism really. Maybe it's the zero tolerance for crashing, but after about a dozen playthroughs, I haven't collected more than 20 resources.

Regardless, this is really impressive. Really well done!

GUNRAIL by Sisyphean Games 2020-10-06T02:24:17Z

I really love the concept here; it feels like it has a ton of potential! The balance felt really nice, too. It felt like there was a constant threat to the hearts, but not an insurmountable one. I would have loved tooltips and more information when clicking on things (what level my train cars were, some damage/RoF numbers, what boosters did, etc). Overall a nice game.

Bjorn to Dance by Tomh 2020-10-06T03:42:10Z

Can't go wrong with viking puns. Nice art style!

Spoonful by Ryuk47 2020-10-06T04:38:09Z

I like the push your luck mechanic you've implemented in eating your own life-raft, haha. Very catchy tune, fun gameplay!

Escaping the Void. by Oulsen 2020-10-06T03:57:19Z

The mood is really nice here. Love the lighting, and the music really draws you into the urgency. If anything, it didn't really feel like you were in a ship: more like a series of rooms with stars in between. Really nice game! Looking forward to your next one!

Parallel Spin by perpetuaReality 2020-10-06T04:48:05Z

I really like the conservation-of-energy mechanic in a dodgeball game. It's a really nice innovation that makes gameplay feel meaningful.

The graphic design is sooo satisfying.

If anything, I think the SFX is a bit loud. I jumped out of my seat when I first lost, haha.

Nice work! Looking forward to your next entry!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Rabbit Hole Herald by Sam_ONella 2021-04-27T00:18:54Z

I love this take on the theme! It is conveyed nicely and has a really great charm to it. I had a couple good chuckles, and liked that I could combine headlines for a laugh or to try to optimize the subtypes; I think that adds a good amount of replayability. I'm a sucker for market-buy games, and really enjoyed adding my own topics or enabling deeper intrigue. If anything, I would have appreciated being able to tab back to my "inventory" while at the shop, so I wouldn't have to buy colours blindly.

Great stuff, thanks for the fun!

RUN FROM STUFF (2D Chase Game) by PookiPoot 2021-04-27T00:03:32Z

This game is sleek as hell. I loved the NPC movement; it felt like they were a pack of predators waiting to strike when you were cornered. The jumping motion is really satisfying, and I felt like I had a good amount of control while in the air. The scale of what you jump over is suitably epic. There were a few times where I squeaked through a certain death scenario and felt like a total badass.

10/10 - would get chased by scary sperm again

Cavebop by LukeTobin 2021-04-26T23:47:19Z

I really enjoyed this game! It has such a clear goal, concise graphics, and a great level of polish. It was genuinely a joy to play.

The SFX for breaking rocks is JUICY. I found myself spamming directions just to listen to it. The music is really soothing, and is simultaneously unobtrusive and engrossing.

I got to about level 18, I think. Most of my strategy was doing probing runs until I deduced the routes by error. I agree with an above comment in maybe having a bit more of a set goal to motivate the player. What if the cavern exit was revealed? Or instead, what if you put a small directional arrow between the player and the exit?

Anyways, this has been my favourite so far. Thank you for making this!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Hole In No by Sapazu 2022-04-04T20:58:47Z

This is such a lovely game! I think it perfectly captures "delay the inevitable" for me. It's clean, simple, and very elegant. The WASD tutorial was satisfying, the difficulty was spot on, and I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to beat your score of 20, haha. Very well done!

Nighty Night, Nosferatu by Shawn Moore 2022-04-04T21:49:30Z

This is a really solid game! I love the animation when lil' Nosferatu explodes. I died quite a lot, and I liked it. I felt like the difficulty was fair. I'm really impressed with the shadows, and the way you have to predict/react to how the sun affects all of the pieces on the map. This is some deep gameplay, and I think you can get a lot of mileage out of it if you feel like making this into a bigger game. I would have loved if the scenery was a bit more...vampire themed? Like gargoyles and mausoleums, gothic things that would evoke the Stoker aesthetic. Anyways, top notch work!

The Fall of Mezentople by vgel 2022-04-04T21:35:27Z

This is such an incredibly cool game. I loved the narrative of an empire crumbling, and the cadence of its decline felt really tasteful; it gave me the space and enough choices to feel like I really was delaying the inevitable. The map is gorgeous, and the valences/colour parameters are such a great way to display the effects that the player has. I would have loved some music or SFX, but golly the writing more than makes up for it. Very well done!

LD53 — Delivery

Holding Out by Jeremy Ryan 2023-05-02T23:40:23Z

Gosh this game is such a joy to play. Everything feels so polished and considered. Absolutely adorable art and animation work. Gary made me laugh out loud many times, and the gameplay loop of trying to make enough space to speedread dialogue is genius. Covering a jazz standard is a really slick way to get great music into your game quickly. Games like this are what I aspire to create in these LD jams.

Bulkheads by OrdiNeu 2023-05-03T04:24:02Z

@ethernal-tech @shiiigear @uncleporkchop Thanks for playing!

@christian-zommerfelds Thank you! Yeah, visual readability was something we were struggling with in pico-8, given such strict colour and space. Will definitely readjust next time!

@bmanstudio Good point about resetting dialogue. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

The Pigeon Post Principle by cassowary 2023-05-02T21:15:07Z

This is easily my favourite game I've played in this ludum dare. Everything just lines up so nicely for me. I love the colour palette, the tone, the music, the sprites and the floating clouds in the background. The gameplay is challenging and satisfying, and the difficulty scaled really nicely.

Some of the small details I really enjoyed: - That all of the sound effects were sonorous to the music - That the soundtrack continued after the "level complete" screen - That Anne-Marie would try to fly against the headwind - The fluttering animation as she landed - the dopamine hit of a good mail delivery

I found myself unconsciously moving the pigeon to the music like it was a Necrodancer game, haha.

Juggle Mail by kuviman 2023-05-03T15:39:51Z

"When I was your age, I used to play Juggle Mail on a trackpad"

Really great game. Got a high score of 5927 on me laptop.

Chain Mail by AdamCYounis 2023-05-03T15:12:00Z

Really incredible music. I certainly wasn't expecting strings and brass when I loaded the game! Engaging gameplay, beautiful art. I found myself quickly getting attached to the characters; forming groups based on their personalities lends itself well to that. Very nice. I would have liked some more missions near the end of the game, as most of my couriers were waiting in the barracks, and the characters I sent on the final mission were woefully underleveled.

Once again, fantastic game. Really wowed by the music.

30 Minutes Or Your Potion's Free by Rustywolf 2023-05-02T20:48:47Z

I'm a sucker for a good deckbuilder, and this really hooked me. Great design, lots of interesting a fun styles of decks to be made. Concise visual and gameplay loops. Very well done!

Crystallium by MikoziQ 2023-05-02T20:34:48Z

Really sleek game! The Sfx were really wonderful, and the generated levels really kept me replaying it. Great work. I was a bit confused at the start, and kept trying to pick up the blue doodad crystals on the edges, haha.

Parcels, Please by Mat Stevenson 2023-05-03T14:44:18Z

Cute game! The vibes are great, especially the buildings; you really hit the retro game nostalgia right on the head with those. Expanding the map as you play is nice. I would have liked to hire couriers at my own pace (with some drawback) because it felt like I was drowned in deliveries right after I hired the 3rd guy. Anyways, lovely game. Thanks for publishing it!

No Matter the Cost by Jaco van Hemert 2023-05-03T16:16:00Z

I really liked this game! It reminded me of the traveling in Banner Saga, with Warcraft 3 musical vibes. The story was nice, and had a good cadence to it. I enjoyed being able to open the map often. It helped me while I was making my choices and trying to predict how much time I had left, or how many resources I could spare. Having hidden costs would definitely increase the storytelling, but I had a very good time nonetheless.

Very nice work!

Return to sender by Katya Pavlenko 2023-05-02T20:08:17Z

The backgrounds are immaculate. There's so much detail, and they're all steeped in character. I found it particularly nice that the things you had to click on blended in so well, giving me the chance to enjoy them for that much longer. The music really helps the ominous contemplative vibe you're going for.

The loop back to the beginning is slick. Some of the dialogue really cuts to the chase, and I think I would have liked a bit more exposition about a few things. Who was the ghost? Why was the boy sent away? What is the special event, and why is the boy's liver being eaten?

Overall, really great work. I hope to one day make backgrounds and settings like this.

Space Express LTD by JamesW 2023-05-03T16:26:51Z

Really great little game! The interface is snappy, the music is compelling (reminds me of stellaris), and the gameplay feels gratifying.

Good stuff.

Magical Domain by kanity 2023-05-03T17:01:15Z

This game is a gem. I really liked that each creature had their own musical theme. My favourites were the witches theme and the bakery. The character designs were very nice, and the world really matched the story.

I should have checked the options at first, but I was sad to see that I could have been running the whole game rather than walking. A little controls tutorial, or a smaller map would be nice in a simple fetch quest loop.

The writing was very good. Profoundly sad at parts, but I think it really carried the game for me. It had vibes of old children's fairytales. (Did the baker cook his family?)

I'm glad I landed here, in this transportive glade of a game.

Boxed Out by freakyzelga 2023-05-03T15:57:27Z

Great little demo. I loved the smooth movement; it would be cool to path along the roads instead of flying, but I get the time constraints. Nice use of the traveling salesman problem, and the use of MidJourney. It's really pretty to look at.

Cool stuff. Looking forward to your next jam.

Equilibrium. Delivery of emotions by abi.code16 2023-05-02T19:52:49Z

Really pretty game! I love the hand-drawn background and the mushrooms. Holding the emotions in a bottle underneath the broomstick is very cute too.

The music is such a treat. Is the flute recorded? Adding the forest sounds was a great choice.

I couldn't help but find the gameplay a little thin. Maybe a few more slimes to deliver to, or a few more colours of emotions. Being able to carry different types would also mix things up a bit.

Overall, fantastic vibes. I'm glad the algorithm sent me here.

LD54 — Limited Space

Hope Falters by Jeremy Ryan 2023-10-02T19:12:16Z

Absolutely beautiful game, once again. Genius really is found in simple elegance.

This game is like peering into a deep well of wisdom and beauty. It's hard enough to create a good game that fits well within the confines of the LD prompt, but it's more remarkable still to make something that *creates meaning* within those confines. Such a simple concept like "freeing hope from obstruction" is profoundly beautiful, and using other words to do so is a perfect match.

I'm very happy to be able to contribute to puzzle making. It really highlights what these Jams are about, so thank you. Here's my level:

``` Assembling Truths Truth,Brash .............B. BELI.TLE....... ....T.IMAGE..L. ....E.E....M.I. ..L.A.A....O.E. ..I.R.N....T.F* ..F.SR.SH..I... ..E.B......VP|. .F.AA.....R.... ....R.|...U.T.. ....E.....T.H.. ```
P.s. I still play Holding Out sometimes.
Flicker of Lumina by Nash 2023-10-02T20:06:29Z
This is a really fantastic game. It really shows that simple twists on a classic idea work so well in Jams. Brutally difficult, but very compelling to replay. The furthest I managed to get was 4:12.
I really like having to bounce your weapon away from you as a design concept; it creates great tension between being powerful and vulnerable. The bounces and player speeds feel very finely tuned, and I think that's a great deal of what keeps me playing. The graphics, music and vibe are cohesive and beautiful, and the upgrade cadence feels good. I had a bit of trouble with the hitboxes of the enemies. They're a bit bigger than the sprites, I think, which can lead to a bit of a surprise when you pass by a smaller shadow. Furthermore, while I absolutely love the fact that you can't see enemies in the darkness, it can be a bit frustrating to run into one that you hadn't anticipated. Making the eyes of the shadows occasionally flicker in the darkness might help you track them without knowing where they are at all times.
Really great work. Thank you for making it!
Floodwater by John Gabriel 2023-10-02T16:41:30Z
Really fantastic game!
The level design is very well thought out. I love the "show, don't tell" that you've implemented throughout the levels, and the difficulty strikes a perfect balance of struggle and success. The music is an absolute bop, and the graphics are wonderfully nostalgic.
Thanks for making this; I had a great deal of fun.
LD55 — Summoning
Voir Dire by danman9914 2024-04-17T18:12:48Z
Splendid game! Really loved the laser-focus on theme. 10/10, would have necromancers vouch for my innocence again.
Clone fest by Tori 2024-04-17T19:10:48Z
This game is adorable! I love the animations and the art style. The forest reminds me of Eiyvind Earle's work. Nice! The introduction was really perfect.
I like having multiple kinds of summons, and really really enjoy the gameplay of using them to platform with. I wish they always summoned below me though, so my jump wouldn't get interrupted if I pressed it outside of the perfect timing window. I also think that the player should be stronger than the persistent chasing enemies, so you're not locked in a gridlock so often. It felt fun to run away from a pack of them, but not so fun to spam jump in order to clip yourself out of a corner. The clown is a 10/10.
Really fun and funny game, thanks for sharing it with us!
Tiny Summons by Jeremy Ryan 2024-04-17T20:52:45Z
Once again, I'm in awe of your creativity in these game jams.
Really incredible art, super cute music, and simple, clean design. This is such a clean way to implement an auto-battler. As mentioned above, having each side gain more resources as people used the !join command would be a really neat way to scale based on viewership (though maybe not linearly haha), and having crazy round modifiers would probably keep people playing multiple times. But this is just wishlisting, really.
Truly fantastic game, and immaculate executions. Thanks for sharing!
Elemental Surge by Foursay 2024-04-17T19:33:21Z
surge score.png
Such a cool game!
Aside from the top notch music and great animations (the portals especially), I think the thing that impressed me the most is the 'push your luck' mechanic of mob management. Kicking the problem just a couple of seconds down the road, while making it a little more problematic is genius. The tension of trying to hold enemies at bay just long enough to turn them into turrets is really coy, and genuinely fun. Things got a bit chaotic down the line, and I found myself spamming portals rather than being strategic, but there was a pocket in there where I was dodging a bullet hell while trying to line up the perfect combo.
Really, really cool design, thanks for sharing!
Footlong Flight by YellowKamel 2024-04-18T04:49:56Z
What a fun and trippy experience! It reminded me a bit of a game I used to play as a kid called Mr. Mosquito. Really cool graphics and sounds. I loved trying to snap up the powerups before they got away, and having to dodge the beams of light was a nice mix-up to the random debris.
Cool game, thanks for sharing!
Realm Rumble! by JDeeDubs 2024-04-16T18:00:05Z
@thatfirey @helviett Thank you!
Realm Rumble! by JDeeDubs 2024-04-17T19:36:52Z
@joriska Thanks for playing it! :D
@barce Dads were easily my favourite to animate XD Thanks for playing!
Realm Rumble! by JDeeDubs 2024-04-18T04:57:12Z
@nardandas Haha, yeah, the Whaleman movespeed was an unintended consequence of trying to implement knockback resistance. Whoops! Thanks for playing!
Realm Rumble! by JDeeDubs 2024-04-18T16:38:59Z
@breadley @dave-septian Very valid points about the scroll features. We're going to focus on UX earlier next time. Our scope was maybe a bit too large for this one, and some UI features suffered for it. Thanks for playing! <3
@kanity Glad our game could evoke some nostalgia for you. Good feedback about the map assets. I was hoping to animate it a bit, but alas, so much to do, so little time. Thanks for playing!
@m-kusy Haha yeah the music gets me good, too. Thanks for playing!
Realm Rumble! by JDeeDubs 2024-04-18T16:39:34Z
@liniux Thank you! We had a great time making them. :)
Mystery in Greensand Shore by barce 2024-04-18T04:21:49Z
Whoa this game is such a lovely little adventure.
The spritework is fantastic; there's so much character, smooth animations, great details, and really refined colour palette choices. The game really tugs at GBA nostalgia for me (cute throwback to Team Rocket vibes at the end). And hot damn is the music a bop.
I kind of wish there was more depth to the combat. The branching paths between rooms is such a neat idea, but I felt like it kind of just boiled down to smushing numbers together, and the winner was just who had more/better stats. It would be lovely to have an XP or stat progression, or maybe some kind of cooldown abilities to use for each character. Like if Bullseye could escape from a room, or Cherrybomb could push everyone in a room out, or Goldenboy could taunt everyone in the room. They all fit such lovely niches already, I just needed a bit more to chew on strategically.
Overall, though, I had a really great time. Very impressive game, and wonderfully polished. Thanks for making it!
Aphantasia by Bitlytic 2024-04-18T04:37:56Z
Really lovely game!
The music, sprites and sound effects were a delight. I loved the use of the thought bubble to communicate which colours you had loaded up. All of the powers were enjoyable, felt unique and crucial in their own ways.
Superb submission, thanks for sharing!
Demon Speedrunning! by BlackCat508 2024-04-17T17:23:11Z
Wow! This is a great interpretation of the theme. It's clean, elegant, and really well executed. All of the sprites, vfx and sfx are exceptionally well done. I really enjoyed the cadence of the game, and the match-striking minigame was very satisfying. I wish the house was a bit more well lit, or had the option to light torches in the rooms, as I lost paint buckets fairly frequently to the dark. Painting a circle was almost impossible, and like above posters, I resorted to tapping right click. The cadence of the game was superb, and the escalation of rubble and banging on the barricades really helped build tension. Great submission, I really enjoyed it!
Game of the Name by kaliuresis 2024-04-17T21:20:59Z
Really inspired design!
I like how robust the system you designed is; it's a very cool sandbox to experiment in. it is a familiar but unexpected take on the theme, and makes for a wicked smart game. All of the UI is clean and effective, and really helps to express how much work you've put in beneath the hood. That being said, I never came remotely close to beating the eldritch being. I found myself hoping for a bit more guidance on the player's part: Maybe a sum of power, or some sort of feedback for coordinating damage types?
Very cool ideas in this game. Thanks for sharing them!
MEOWTERSPACE by Tetracold 2024-04-16T18:31:19Z
Wow! This is such a zany and fun game!
The amount of attention to small details is really remarkable; it makes the game feel so smooth. The art is wicked and full of character. The music absolutely slaps.
Tiny things I loved: the subtle animation in the start screen, the cats floating off into space if you miss the ship, the bubbles getting bigger as you try to pop them, the variety of enemies, pickups and cats. Gosh there's just so much to like.
That being said, the new player experience is really tough. It wasn't clear or intuitive that I could right click cats to recharge them, and I couldn't tell which things flying at me were hostile or pickups. I couldn't tell how much a new UFO costed, or what some of the cats did. Most of this was all figured out on second playthrough, though, and all of this can be solved with a couple of follow-along click tutorials, so these are small nitpicks. I really enjoyed the drag-and-drop component of the tower defense gameplay. Constantly adapting to oncoming waves felt really enjoyable.
Truly charming and fun game. Thanks for making it!
Baphocat by onqdll 2024-04-17T20:03:12Z
I can't believe how well put together this game is!
I'm completely smitten with how polished and complete this feels. The core gameplay loop is very addicting: I've had a couple of really powerful builds, and a few real stinkers, haha. Everything feels so sleek, but I would have loved being able to hover my stickers to remind me what they did, or maybe even peel them off if I found they weren't working so well. Also, can I equip an infinite amount of relics? I couldn't find much info after I purchased them. Where do I see the ones I bought?
Truly an awesome submission, thanks for sharing it with us!
The Rise of Copil by rainbeau 2024-04-17T20:20:05Z
Really cool take on the Summoning theme!
The game was fun; I really liked the upgrade paths, and the different builds you could take. The VO component was great, and really helped with immersion. The graphics of ascending the tower was awesome, especially the perspective shifting as you flew away from the spire; very, very inspiring stuff in a pixel art game.
Enemies aggro-ing you immediately felt a bit unfair at times: especially the bigger scarab enemies charging at you. It would be nice to have a few seconds to get your bearings before combat started each level.
Overall, I enjoyed this game, and am enamored by the theme you chose. Thanks for sharing this with us!
The Checkout by Mizuto 2024-04-17T18:54:43Z
This is such a charming game! The animation style is top-notch. The oblivious cashier, and unobtrusive shopping music really sells the comedy for me. I love how short and sweet this game is; it really makes hunting for all the endings enjoyable. Great entry!
Cat Wizard by Lily Hubbard 2024-04-18T05:06:14Z
Cool game! Very satisfying animations. i found myself just walking around on all fours more than platforming. I had to pan down the page to refer to the WASD combinations a lot. Maybe having a spellbook in game would be helpful to refer to? It would be nice to have a couple of hints for copying boss motions as well. I really liked the sprites. Thanks for the submission, it was fun!
NECRO RUSH by helviett 2024-04-16T16:11:36Z
This is a really cool game!
The sprites and animations are exceptionally well made, and very charming. They're what drew me here, and they really sell the game for me.
The gameplay reminds me of Boneraiser Minions. I like that you can resurrect enemy necromancers, and it feels good to find a patch of new graves. Potions are a nice buff, and often feel like a worthy treasure to find. I like the tension of straying too far from your pack of minions to find more graves. Like someone said above, kiting is a very strong strategy, and leashing the enemy necromancer away from their zombies is a fairly simple way to cheese the game.
I couldn't help but feel like the game lacked a bit of player agency, though. The gameplay loop felt like "walk around->find graves->avoid death", without much choice in between. What if you had an inventory for potions, and could save them for a crucial moment? Maybe a potion that turns you into a Golem? Another option would be to break the necromancer spawns into separate waves, and give the players some upgrade options for their troops when a wave is done.
Anyways, I hope the constructive criticism proves that this is a great game, and has very good bones to build upon. Again, the polish on it is very impressive. Fantastic submission!
Hey, this is a cool game! I love the ingenuity in concept. It really uses the theme well, and each of the monsters you summon fit such a valuable niche in platforming. The spiders were my favourite. Nice work!
LD56 — Tiny Creatures
My Keyboard is Full of Ants! by Jeremy Ryan 2024-10-09T00:24:42Z
This is genuinely so much fun. It's charming, infinitely replayable, unbelievably polished, and has such clever design. The intermission recaps are hilarious every time, and the upgrades scratch such an itch in my lizard brain.
Really awesome work once again. I look forward to your submissions every Jam, and you knock it out of the park every time.
Whiskerbrink by OrdiNeu 2024-10-08T18:02:59Z
@raymond-bourke Thanks! Yeah, sometimes the snap-to is a bit janky. We pivoted mid-weekend, and ran out of time to smooth it over. Such is the game jam, though! :)
@sofimei Thanks for playing! We ran out of time to do a ton of bug squashing, sorry it made it unplayable for you. Were you playing in fullscreen? Some of the assets get mushed together in the browser window mode.
@damien-black Thanks for playing! It's a bit scrunched in the web browser version, unfortunately. Did fullscreen work for you?
@jesse-ray Thanks! The one of every animal type was a strange bug, and we couldn't really figure out why it doesn't work, so congratulations on finding it!
@hakusai We would have loved to add more cards and strategy, but ended up short on time. Thanks for playing!
@tavox Thank you! Good luck on your next try!
Whiskerbrink by OrdiNeu 2024-10-11T19:07:03Z
@eranot Yeah, we're still refining UI with every jam, haha. Thanks for playing!
@stames Thank you! We designed the cards first, then tried to jam them into the sprite, which didn't really help with readability unfortunately.
@kazzter Thank you! We were pretty happy with the card playing sounds.
@runningopenloop Payoffs for leveling cards got pushed past the deadline, but we were hoping for more clear rewards and incentives. Thanks for playing!
@aripize Thank you!
@lucy-z Thanks! I'm glad it brought you in. Took me a hell of a long time, haha.
@kanity Thanks for stopping by again! We've been trying to focus more and more on first- play experience, and this is great feedback. Thanks for catching the missing art category. That would have been tragic, considering it was most of my weekend, haha.
@enad96 Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!
@vyffea Thanks! We were planning on having a cute "end the day" animation, but ran out of time. I was thinking of adding a rooster sound, but it got very annoying, haha.
@pachino55 Thanks for playing!
@joshua-reumann Thank you!
@nemuikoda Sorry it wasn't to your tastes, but thanks for playing!
Squizzard by JammedGame 2024-10-08T19:42:17Z
Hey! Good stuff! Love the art and vibes. The effects were very cool, and the spells very satisfying to use (especially lightning). I would have loved to see some damage numbers to really reinforce what things were doing. I couldn't help but feel that the gameplay loop was kind of "press all of your buttons as fast as possible". I think a few more restrictions on what the player can do would help the gameplay a bit. If the gameplay were a little slower, you could dial up the tension of cooldowns being longer, or maybe even a mana system.
I had a good deal of fun playing. Great submission to LD!
Ant Simulation by Suchista 2024-10-11T20:26:00Z
I'm really into this. Watching the ants gradually chip away at the apples is incredibly satisfying. It would be cool to have a way to remove pheromone trails to experiment with pathing, or have them expire over time. That being said, this is nice vibes. Great submission!
Hardened Chitin by Stames 2024-10-08T19:32:53Z
The holofoil effect on cards is very cool. I liked the game. The sprites were nice, and the sounds and music were good. I was a little confused as to what to do with some of the cards, as it looked like positioning didn't really matter, and none of my bugs had any DEX. I would have loved to see enemy intents, as blocking seemed like a gamble. Some cool ideas here. Nice submission!
TerrariumSim by Eranot 2024-10-08T18:51:08Z
Cute game! The sprites and animations were great. I particularly liked the flies rubbing their hands together. The mute/unmute music was also slick. I would have liked a little more to do; maybe some objectives or win/lose state? Cool stuff!
Small hope for a tiny sea creature by Enad96 2024-10-11T20:43:34Z
Untitled.jpg
This was really cool, and surprisingly addictive once you got a hang of the controls. I like how considered some of the levels are. The timings on getting away from the hazards are very tight, and it feels good to evade death by the fin of your teeth. It took me way too long to realize I needed to avoid the leeches.
The perspective shifts were a very nice addition, too. A little janky and jarring at times, but they added a lot of character and made the shark pretty scary. The soundtrack was great at building tension as well.
Great submission, lots of fun!
Wink and the Fae by Pious 2024-10-08T18:26:53Z
Wow this is so charming! I really liked the aesthetic. The art is beautiful! I kind of wished it was zoomed in a bit more, so I could see the friends i was rescuing. The gameplay loop was very solid. I liked the quick runs, and corralling your sprites back to the glade was very nice feedback that you're doing well. The tutorial was very sleek, and the haptics on shooting was a nice touch. I did notice that you could walk off the map around the center-right wall, did you have other locations planned?
Great game!
Cheese Chase by Raymond Bourke 2024-10-08T18:16:24Z
Cute game! Simple, and effective graphics and sounds.
The gameplay was pretty fun. Took a little while to get used to the inertia when moving, but it gave a neat feel to the game. Drifting through a pack of spiders to snatch up the last cheese was a pretty good feeling too. Its easy to take menus for granted, but they were very nicely executed here. Maybe the UI could have been a bit bigger? I didn't notice the hearts until the second level. I also couldn't help but feel like the game lacked a bit of player agency and choice. It's fun to kite mobs, but what if there were pickups that altered the way the mouse moved, or the spiders chased you?
Overall, nice entry! Sorry to hear you missed the Compo deadline, but this is a solid Jam!
Beetle Battle by unkilledshadow135_Alex 2024-10-11T21:41:13Z
I loved the intro comic, and the art style is truly great. The jumping cutout in the stone wall was particularly funny.
I think the game needs a bit of a ramp in difficulty, though. The game is very hard with only one life, and having to dodge or hit so many projectiles so early can be a bit frustrating. If the player only had to face the cute hopping enemies for a little while, they could get more familiar with the controls, or get more invested in a good run.
Nice submission, thanks for sharing!
Personality test by kanity 2024-10-11T21:18:00Z
Very cool! I love that you made so many tiny creatures; scrolling through the comments is very satisfying. I regret not screenshotting my Interitty. I did find the choices a bit confusing, though. I would have liked an "are you sure?" confirmation when choosing between boxes or desserts or such. Nice work on the voiceover. It's so rare to have that in Jams, and it's a really neat texture.
Great stuff. Looking forward to your next one!
Squirrel Insulation Thieves by runningopenloop 2024-10-11T21:50:27Z
Love a good Pico8 game!
This is really nicely designed. I liked the opportunistic gameplay pattern it puts you in, watching the current roll towards you, and trying to nibble off a bit more insulation before having to retreat. The sprites are clear and effective, which can be hard in such a confined palette.
Really well done!
The Little Life by Lucy Z 2024-10-11T21:31:44Z
Really incredible idea here. The theme of cyclical balance plays nicely into tiny creatures, and the art is really beautiful.
It took me a little bit to figure out exactly what was going on, but I had a good deal of fun once I understood. I liked finding out that there were more and more bones I could put the types on, and adding the balance slider at 2 years is a great touch. I would have liked to know ahead of time that the game ended after 3 years, but not a big deal.
Very creative submission. Thanks for sharing!
Quantum Swarm by Damien Black 2024-10-08T18:44:11Z
Wow this is a really cool concept!
I liked how sassy Bob was, and was impressed by the amount of worldbuilding you established in a couple of speech bubbles. Entering my username, then having it dismissed as unimportant was very funny. Gameplay-wise, designing the logic for the bots was very satisfying, particularly dragging the wires around. Setting up dominoes and watching them fall is always a good core for gameplay, especially when you can accidentally make your dominoes walk into walls over and over.
Very fun concept. Cool entry!
Escape from the Eco-bottle by Stardust_Z 2024-10-11T22:03:41Z
Whoa the art style is charming! I loved the creature design, and the background added such a great depth to the game. I had a bit of readability issues with the spikes on the ground, though. When I died at first, I thought it was a bug, and only after returning to that spot did I realize it was a hazard.
Super cool game, though. I particularly liked the little creatures. Great submission, can't wait to play your next one.
Critter Gang by lastsecondgames 2024-10-08T19:07:11Z
Hey! Cool game! The music was really top notch. I liked the character designs, and the menu navigation was very sleek. The boss fight designs were very neat and nicely considered. I think Immortal Phoenix was my favourite.
I think the game is a bit too hard, though. While the I-frames were generous, I think there wasn't enough telegraphing for me to feel like I could do much about some of the attacks, especially in the coyote fight. I was constantly wishing I had a dash move, or some way to correct my positioning at the last second. I also found not being able to attack upwards pretty hindering during the first phase of the peacock fight.
Really cool designs here, tough gameplay, and a great submission to this LD. Thanks for sharing!
Parasite Revolution by Hakusai 2024-10-08T19:16:34Z
Incredible animations, and really cool tutorial screen. It's pretty surreal to control a flock of units that are locked in position like that, and a neat take on a dodge-game where you are controlling more and more hitboxes.
I had a bit of trouble starting the game, but your solution to press begin before fullscreen worked. I was a bit confused about what happened to the sheep after they were spotted by the sentrybot things, but had a pretty good time playing. I would have like a bit more feedback in the gameplay loop, as mentioned above. Just a little something more to tell me that I was gaining or losing sheep.
Very cool entry, looking forward to more. Thanks for sharing!
LD57 — Depths
Pack by Jeremy Ryan 2025-04-09T19:59:12Z
I loved this game. It's so peaceful and thoughtful. The puzzles are cute, the easter eggs are genuinely funny, and the art and vfx are effective and pretty.
Very impressive, as always!
A Leap in the Dark by mmemim 2025-04-09T19:18:28Z
This is truly inspired! Simplicity is key in LD, and you really nailed the execution of such a seemingly basic premise. I particularly appreciate the slow-roll of mechanics as you progress through the levels (level 3 especially). The music really helped increase the tension in particular jumps, and lent itself really well to captivating gameplay. I think I encountered a bug where if you are standing on an apple while holding an apple, you can consume both at once.
I dread the feeling of falling in videogames, so this game really shook me. Very impressive jam entry! Thanks for sharing!
Submeowrine by duckmaniac 2025-04-09T19:42:36Z
Really cute game! I love a good picture collector. The art and vibes were really well done, and very cleanly articulated. The descriptions were a nice touch, and I enjoyed having upgrades being tied to photographing specific fish. I also really enjoyed how the music developed as you progressed deeper. I was a bit confused with taking the photos sometimes. It seemed counter-intuitive that I was right up in the face of a fish, but the camera wouldn't often recognize it. I ended up just spamming space bar while trying to sidle up next to as many fish as I could. The reveal at the end was very endearing. Great game!
