What a fun game! The voiceovers are done very well! Is that your own voice with some filters spinkled in?
The beginning was a point / click adventure-like game. I like how you made lots of interactable objects. The real purpose of the game was a bidden yet. The personality test was fun to do, lots of little tasks to do. I was expecting a quiz-like experience, but this was more than that.
At the end I realized that the tiny critters that were scattered all around the book-store most likely were other nosy people who did the test? My personality: Smilecute :-)
~~Question: what game engine / editor did you use?~~ Nevermind, you put it on the titlescreen in the biggest font imaginealble

That was cool ! i like personality tests and found this one quite fun !! Also, the lady's voice was a bit.. weird ? And i think there is a mistake in the script ? oui..png

@wouter52 Thank you!! Yes, it's my voice with an audio filter to make it more creepy :D I am glad you liked it! And yes, these critters were humans :) I am glad I got the point across. Also - yes, I used RPG Maker MV to concentrate on the art and story, and because I am not that good at coding ^^'
@mitsukoy I am glad it was fun! And that's my voice, I kinda wanted it to be weird so I added a "robot" filter on it as it gave it more other-worldly feeling that I was going for :') Can you please elaborate on the mistake? I am not seeing it, but I am not a native English speaker so maybe I am missing something? EDIT: I was told directly about the mistake and gosh I was reading the whole word and didn't see that AT ALL. How embarrassing! ;_;

I think this would have some potential outside of ludum dare! Nice work!

@warflame thank you ^v^ I do have some ideas how I would polish & expand it a bit if I have time ^^
Nice work! And I really liked your voiceovers.
Here's my result:
Screenshot 2024-10-08 232441.png
And I think what @mitsukoy meant was that it was supposed to be "insect" ;)
Would have been cool if the last voiceover would also have been accompanied by subtitles.
All in all, a different take on the theme that I really enjoyed!
I thought it would be a straightforward text questions, but you made it a bit more interesting by adding some actual gameplay elements.
The visual parts of the game are good too, considering it was created by you. My game doesn't even have any music to begin with, so it's another plus points for managing to add some tunes to your game.
I think more "test" should be like this. Put the person into situations and consider their actions instead of just taking their responses as a source of truth.
In the very end, it looks like there is no subtitles for the final speech. All other parts of the game had the subtitles so I was caught off-guard. :D
Upd. I've read the comments and it's insane that those insects were humans. Makes me kinda sad. We've done nothing wrong. :'(

@sockenpuppe Oh no! Thank you for explaining the mistake, I didn't see it at all gosh it's so horrible xD I am glad you enjoyed, and yeah I probably should have added subtitles in the end, didn't think about it as it was nearing the end of the jam ^^' Maybe I should post the full poem here at least for reference. Also, you got one of my faves! Thank you for sharing your result <3
@quasilyte Thank you :) I hoped to make more mini-games (like treasure hunt instead of just choosing the chest) but art really did take such a huge chunk of time! The idea was exactly to "game-ify" personality tests :)
And really can recommend beepbox for making simple tunes pretty fast! (I spent more time recording voice over in the end than making my tunes ^^')
Sorry about no subtitles in the end... I was kinda in a rush already and didn't think about it at all ;v; I'll add them to the polished version >_<
And about the story: yeah the thing is the "villain" behind that, bookshop owner who made that book, sincerely believes that people would *want* to become magical insects and thinks they would love it; there is only 1 good ending for Mausu (Main Character) in this game that you can get with a chance of 1 out of 72 where (spoiler I suppose!) she stays human.
Also, you got a nice result! :) It makes me happy to see results shared <3
i had to refrain from doing it over and over because honestly that's crazy that you've done 72 creatures! i'm super happy with my second run creature:
Capture d’écran 2024-10-09 à 03.32.18.png
also i found it very cool that you took time to add many hidden infos on objects of the first "level", made me want to interact with every object, well done!

Well, that was an "experience". Has an really interesting vibe going for it with a good graphical style, the chanting in the bg sure helped to create a mood at the start, then the childrens rhyme theme and so on, jolly stuff! Never done this kind of a personality test beforehand haha, great work!
A strange but wonderful experience. I hadnt thought of using RPG Maker in this way, youre very creative!
I'm glad you put the text for the final poem on itch because I found that part hard to understand clearly.
A lovely jam entry and well made!
Edit: I got the shellshock (oh no ive forgotten the name already im so sorry! I know its something like that!)

@amarokczukay hehe I am kinda happy you wanted to play over and over :) maybe I'll make a separate file for itch with "encyclopedia" of all the creatures, like pokemon xD And aww I love your result! Were you unhappy with first one you got, I wonder? xD
@svenerik thank you, adding poetry was a spontaneous decision, glad it worked out ^v^
@balimaarthebassfish ohh you got one of the funny ones! I love it xD Shockshell - you got it pretty much right :)
@kanity an encyclopedia pdf would be a nice itch addition yes!
i was not unhappy with the first one, i just wanted to see more haha and the second one was so cool that i stopped there lol
here was the first one:

Cool game you have there! I enjoyed the initial two rooms the most, checking out every bookshelf. Reminded me a bit of Stardew Valley and the junimos. :) My only gripe was the tiny viewport - with a large screen, I had to lean pretty close to see. Perhaps a 2X scaling would have helped here. Anyway, nice job. :)
kanity
2024-10-09 13:39
@manabreak Thank you, and what a cute association with junimos ^v^ I agree it might look quite small, but not sure if I can do scaling in rpg maker... But I'll note it, thank you!

I love all these weird "buzzfeed" or however to call them personality tests, cool idea to make it into a game haha!
Snímek obrazovky 2024-10-09 210152.png
I also noticed one text box said incest instead of insect, oops. But that's just a tiny thing :D
I got the dustbug. Accurate. Very good job with this one, lovely creative writing with the poetry and well done for going the extra mile and voice acting too! So many little details in this that really flesh out this little adventure game, I can really see the passion that went into making this game.
Very nice and chill experience. I loved the voicework, especially on the poetry at the end. Everything really went so well together in this game. I played several games of yours by now, and I always enjoy your take on the theme :smile_cat:
Hand-drawn art is very cool and a great fit. 72 creatures is extremely impressive!
Screenshot_7.jpg
Ayy I am a flyberry!
I loved the fourth wall breaks and the breadcrumbs in the level that hinted at what was to come! Attention to detail is always fun.
The music also reminded me of this from Kings Quest 7! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Tq0y-PZkY If you play this at 1.25X speed, it sounds kinda similar :P Fun!

2024-10-10 00:10
@tygrak Ohh you got one of the rare creatures that are not as "organic"! And yeah I was told about incest already T_T Didn't see it myself at all. Made a 1.1 version today mostly to fix that mistake (and added subtitles in the end for the poem too) x)
@historymaker118 Ah I think you mentioned on stream you got Dustbug! It's one of my favs too, so cozy ^v^ And thank you for your sweet words <3
@fabula-rasa Your words made me really happy! Thank you for always playing my games and glad you enjoy my interpretation <3
Gosh, I just saw I didn't click "follow" on your page and I was wondering why I didn't get notification of your game published and had to look for it... I thought I was following already 3_3
Also, love your result! First green creature I see someone get, too! ^v^/
@langotriel Hehe you got a cutie as your creature ^v^ I didn't play Kings Quest 7 but I like this melody so I'll take it as a compliment >:) I suspect you reference music that plays in Main menu and some of the rooms. I wrote a super quick melody on the fly in BeepBox that has just 1 instrument and is quite short, but I was happy with it as music is the hardest part for me :3

@kanity your game reflect the energy and passion that you show all around. The amount of work, design, voice over, poem and talent you display is really amazing!
I had a lot o fun on stream watching @burchyn plays and then speed-running your game to find my own spirit-bug.
I also would like to thank you as part of the community, when writing my feedback on multiple games today, I saw that you posted a detailed feedback on many of them, if I could give you a gold-pin award I would!
Thanks a lot for making this quiz and being wholesome!

Really well done creepy vibes! I love personality tests, so I loved this especially having the 'questions' be interactive bits. The art is great and audio really fits. I saw you did it all which is super impressive. Great work!

@togis thank you for your kind words, that made me really happy! ^v^ and I had a lot of fun watching you two play the game, it was a blast :)
@andreia I am glad I got the creepy vibes across and that you liked the game, thank you! <3 I spent all three days working on it nonstop ^^

This game is a gem! I don't think I've played anything like it before. I found it very inspiring and fun. The concept was great, and it's amazing how much content you made. The work you put into the game really shows. It really elevates the experience to see everyone post their different creatures. I got the "Shellfident", and I'm happy with the result. Screenshot 2024-10-09 212832.png
Wow! I usually don’t play this genre of games, but I think after this experience, I’ll try them more often. Initially, it caught my attention with the graphics (I really like it; it’s very cute). Then, I stayed for the sound design and well-thought-out poetry. I later read that the voice is yours but changed—it really shows the effort put in. The game began to captivate me more and more, and I completed it. And, of course, I admire how polished the it is. A phenomenal experience!

Interesting game! I found the lack of dialogue-skip a little old-school, but the idea was interesting and the art was nice. Good job!

@vidarn Thank you, your comment is very inspirational to me ^^ I am glad my idea with making creatures for sharing the results worked out! And wow, you got a cool one! x)
@ecaterina Thank you for such a sweet review and for sharing your result <3 You got one of rare kitties! Tbh, I am not even sure *what* genre it is myself, to be honest... but I am glad you enjoyed it :)
@xparker Good result, hope you like to sing? x)
@vipaka Thanks :) If I understand you correctly: it's only unskippable in the intro and outro because I wanted audio to be synchronized and play out with text, then you can click through dialogue pretty fast. And if you mean "skip automatically" like in RenPy, I don't think it's needed here as it's not a visual novel and you are only meant to play through it once :)
I love the vibe of this game and the pixel art looks great

You did a really good job on the mood this time, the poems, voice acting and music+sound effects really gave off this eery vibe.

@burchyn I would >:) And ahh thank you I absolutely won't stop, I love the process so much and then people playing and enjoying the game I made makes me soooo happy! <3
@fupi yay thank you, I am glad you got an eerie vibe and love your result, I made most of the creatures cute but some are more "funny" or even "eerie" =P
@pearstar37 thank you, glad you liked the art ^^

Very cool! I love that you made so many tiny creatures; scrolling through the comments is very satisfying. I regret not screenshotting my Interitty. I did find the choices a bit confusing, though. I would have liked an "are you sure?" confirmation when choosing between boxes or desserts or such. Nice work on the voiceover. It's so rare to have that in Jams, and it's a really neat texture.
Great stuff. Looking forward to your next one!

@jdeedubs Thank you ^^ I think I see what you mean with confirmation feature... I'll note that :) Also, here is your Interitty :3 39.Interitty.png
**(You appreciate neutrality in everything, but don’t enjoy others invading your personal space. You always make sure to consider all the opportunities.)**
@itsboats Ohh you got a dragonfly creature! Lucky x) I kinda started making encyclopedia but at the same time I think it's kinda cool that you can see other creatures through looking at results of others x)
@samuli Wow that's cool that the result fits! x3
P.S. My favourite "retro platform" is MS-DOS ^v^

GAme VERY NICE!
Wow, 72 creatures and personality descriptions, and all the dessert graphics too, what an undertaking! Took me a moment to realise how I could use save files not to have to redo the whole thing every time but I still have a lot more creatures to see. Working on it!
I guess the main thing is seeing all the different creatures (funny to see a poké ball in one of the chests as a nod to that) but of course there's more here in terms of the story, with the intro, the background information, the poems, and whatever mystery is going on here… I feel silly for not realising before reading Wouter's comment that the creatures jumping around at the beginning must've been previous visitors. Pondering the poetry too, and whether there's a meaning beyond the game. Obviously there was some meta stuff referring to the jam, but… :p
Moody and creepy, has a similar vibe to your last game. Great work on the audio, my only complaint would be that the audio levels were a bit unbalanced (e.g. saving sound was quite loud).
Cool stuff. Once again you've left me thinking… 🤔 Will try to see more of the creatures.
Screenshot 2024-10-14 212114.png
anyone like mine?
I'm genuinely thrilled that I returned to find this game—it's truly something special.
You can definitely notice the personal touch, with the dialogues, the sounds, and the texts. It's all really well done.
By the way, it doesn't say at the beginning, but I think, like in every RPG Maker game, you can move by clicking on things with the left mouse button. This might actually be a faster way to interact with objects.
kanity
2024-10-15 19:13
@ava-skoog Oh I should've mentioned saving option! To be honest, completely forgot about it myself. I am happy you want to see more of the creatures, but I wonder which one you got first? Did you get to see a lot? :D
There *is* a story behind the game. I wonder if you have a theory? ;D
Thank you for the note about audio levels! I noticed myself that poetry seems quiet. I'll try work it out better next time, still new to audio design after all, so to say x)
Also, glad you found it creepy and it left you thinking as well. Thank you for such a sweet and detailed comment! <3 It makes me so happy when people genuienly enjoy the game ^v^

@velvetlobster Thank you <3 I think no one has shared this one yet! Yours is kinda rare too, as most of them are "cute" but this is more like "cool" ^v^
About the mouse - yeah, I think so, though there is a moment that for example, people would click on the book itself in the book shop and get no result as you need to interact with the lower "tile" and might get confused as what to do 3_3
oh yes I noticed that, some interactions for some reason do not work with the mouse

Here's my result.Sprite-0002.png . Super interesting concept for a game, it's great! And the fact that each set of choices is a different creature is very impressive. I really dig the style of your games, and look forward to more in the future!
Also based on the hint you gave on the twitch stream I was able to find the combination for the secret ending :). Even knowing the first 2 it still took me 3 tries to get it right. Very neat!

I love a good rhyme, and with that voice over effect -- superb! There's so much pretty art and all the desserts are making me hungry just looking at them. What a creative way to do a quiz :)

@t-c Oh nice! I hope you noticed his tiny face x) And it's so cool you got the secret ending +_+ Thank you for your sweet review :3
@jkyd Aw thank you! I had fun drawing all the desserts >:)
I got Spidesense, but I forgot to take a screenshot! This is a cool game. You don't see a lot of this type of game in ludum dare, so I appreciate the rpgmaker-horror-type representation here. And it's cool that you put actual voiceover lines into the game. Thanks for making this!
