I lost on the ninth wave, but wow, that was fun! Having to swap not just weapons but even movement is a rare sort of resource management, and one that I really enjoyed. The pixel art is excellent, the sound design - while basic - works well, and the energy of the guitar music lends itself well to the game's tone. Great stuff all around!
@aluminumfool Thanks for playing! @john-gabriel Glad you enjoyed it! @JDeeDubs and @TheDugnutt did an amazing job with the art and music -- huge props to them for it. Thanks for playing!
TUMBLEWEED!
Very solid art. The game idea is very interesting and I think there is a lot to explore here. The challenge with this is that it is so confusing to the player at first. All players have those movement controls imprinted to their genes it is feels very off when they are altered. Maybe for a jam setting it may be a bit too much since many players only play these games just a couple of minutes. I would maybe experiment with keeping the movement controls as normal and let the player to rewire other controls like shooting etc.
But besides that long comment, I still enjoyed the game and it really challenged my brain to think differently than usual. It was also a cool touch that you could stack same directions to gain more speed. Feels like something that could easily be a bug during development but ends up being a feature.
Overall, a solid (mind-bending) entry!
TUMBLEWEEEEED
Really cool and unique take on the jam theme. Dash to the cursor is the best ability. Lost on wave 5, but had a ton of fun.
lmao the tumbleweed caught me unexpectedly
Really nice and well polished game, there were a few minor things, like the revolver bullet didn't orient itself in the direction it was traveling, the impact hit effect was using bilinear filtering when everything else used point filtering, but only minor things. I loved the gameplay even though I hate inventory management. Took me a couple tries but I finally beat it, by the end I just had a dash and two revolvers equipped.
Classic dual-wield build, it can never go wrong :)
Cute and fun graphics, hectic gameplay by the end, this one's a winner methinks.
I'm really glad you added the directional arrows you need to get yourself unstuck in the corners of the map. That really saved me big time since I hadn't loaded those into my inventory.
Really good game! I loved the graphics, animation and the overall mood and music. The Mechanics is scuh a unique and cool idea for the Theme Limited Space. Really well done!
@nash Neat idea! We originally had WASD + space available, but during playtesting we dropped it to just WASD, and then immediately dropped it to ASD (and then reduced the number of enemies to accomodate). The big thing was that with five keys available, during playtesting no-one was swapping items at all. Anyhow, thanks for playing!
@technonugget Ooo good catch! I learned about Unity import presets very late into the project, so I was swapping everything to point filtering by hand and I'm not surprised that I missed one haha.
@pro4 Glad to see our last minute bandaid fix helped! We were considering just having a "warp back to center" thing, but I figured that this would work better.
@arti-dev @lespaul59 Thanks for playing!
Nice game I love the tumble weeds even though they are not too helpful compared to the other powerups. got to stage 10 then ran out of health. it seems like it is easy till you get hit once because of the bounce mechanic that happens when you get hit often you don't have the movement to recover and so I just would get hit again. the best run I did was to just scrap moving at all and just get all the guns and stockpiled them next to me so I could just swap lasers for new ones.
All in all I love the art and sound and the game is rather good, thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
@tristan-doell you havent lived until you run 3 tumbleweeds at once haha. But all joking aside, the tumbleweed becomes really strong late game when there are lots of enemies on screen at once. Same as the lightning rod!
Thanks for playing and the feedback :)
@thedugnutt I do kind of suspect that if you got three of the shield things, then you would be immortal, but I haven't managed it yet because then you have no other weapons. I like the idea and it was good for you to limit it down to 3 buttons. if you had more, I think an all the lasers run might be the meta. I actually found the tumble weed to be good in the earlier stages because it can hit behind you, in the later ones there are so many enemies that it is better to have lasers, at least in my plays it seems to be.
I loved this game!!! the art and animations are gorgeous, and that soundtrack is perfect. I love the character/enemy design so much!! I would play the heck out of a fully fleshed out roguelike with this aesthetic and these mechanics. it's sooo up my alley in both regards. wave 8 was the furthest I made it - I was having a blast trying a bunch of different builds though. the one that ended up taking me the furthest was two revolvers and a dash, but I was messing with the jetpack, the laser, the shield, and the TUMBLEWEEEEEEEEED for a bit as well, and also was swapping out movement keys in other builds, just to see what felt the best
I liked that there were additional keys in the corners of the map, and I felt like the fact that you can only have so many keys in your inventory, but you can still pick up any keys on the map, as long as they're in frame, felt pretty balanced (though once it starts getting hectic I was not swapping keys out at all hahaha)
I had such a blast with this game. super impressed by how much versatility and nuance was squeezed into a 2 day game jam game!!! I think this is a great example of a game that does one thing extremely well. Truly some top notch work, here!!
Great game! It was pretty hard to frantically swap out the various actions between waves or mid-round. I like that the limited space really shined through in your actions, we had ideas similar to this as well and I'm glad to see someone else actually going through with it.
The art and sound are great, with a bit more polish, especially a slightly smoother experience swapping actions is what I am thinking, would make this a great game I'd happily play again.
Well done!
Such a cool idea! Art and sound were great too!
Very fun game, I really enjoyed playing it. The gameplay idea is really cool it fit very well with the theme, and I also love your pixel art and animations. Great job! ;)
That was really fun experience! The art is amazing (especially the dash animation) and game is really true to the game jame theme.
I love your art and music.
Really interesting concept and everything is nicely implemented! I was able to pick it up and play immediately without even relying the tutorial. The pixel art and music is great, and the swapping mechanic is a great interpretation of the theme and a really interesting idea that could be expanded in all sorts of interesting ways. Great job on this one!
Very unique take, don't think I've ever seen a bullet hell game done this way! I did find it a bit difficult to manage at first, because movement is restricted. However, once I got the hang of it, it's really fun! I wonder though, if it'd be more satisfying to just restrict powerups, instead of movement.
This is such a strong game. The elements of strategy and playstyle are at the forefront of the experience. I love the different abilities that can all be strong if built correctly. Great work!
Amazing game! loved trying out the different combinations. Ending up beating level 10 with just damage keybinds (2x 6 bullets & lighting)! Wouldn't mind seeing what this could become given more than three days
This game is so good. The treatment of the theme is very ingenious !
I love the character models, the visual style is just my taste, the cowboy reminds of the one from Overwatch and that's a big plus for me personally xD I am not a pro at westerns or music, but in my opinion music here really fits the atmosphere. The main menu also looks fantastic, it's impressive you managed to include such a pretty and stylish main menu in the game that was made in such a short amount of time ^^ Mechanic of having to choose controls is original and REALLY fits the theme of limited space. It also adds natural difficulty to the game. Bullet hell is not really my genre but I liked the game :)
