I absolutely love the graphics and audio for this game, they both fit perfectly with each other! The mechanics were really cool too, I wasn't expecting a turn based fighting game at all but it was really well designed, I love the sprites for the enemies too you guys took a lot of time making sure this game would turn out just right! Good Job!

Artstyle is really nice, I like the story, didn't expect to see any narrative driven rpg's so its a welcome surprise. Love the music as well, the 16 bit retro aesthetic is really rocked well.

I feel torn, on one hand the game looks absolutely wonderful! The graphics are so pretty and the characters look so nice. The audio is also very solid. But on the other hand the gameplay itself doesn't feel very rewarding. The fact that actions are automatic leads to you not knowing who your guys will attack, or why, which can turn a fight you _could_ win into one that you don't. The overworld movement feels a bit odd, somehow both stiff and slippery at the same time. I'm still glad that I played it through and thank you for making it!

Interesting combat system, could make for an interesting game. You can find yourself unable to win very easily and it's slow to get through each fight, would be nice to be able to click to speed up each action or reset the fight. The music seems very loud on the overworld. The controls for the overworld are very floaty. Quite well fleshed out.

The combat was really unique, and I enjoyed the problem solving in trying to survive. Perhaps I'm missing something, or maybe the post-jam-brain is numbing my critical thinking skills, but I reached a section where there were 3 available fights, and I was unable to come close to beating any of them. Even still, it was fun to figure out the strategies to get as close as possible, but I was certified 100% stumped, and decided to give up. I have the entire session recorded, so hopefully you'll be able to see what I was doing wrong. This is definitely the most important feedback I could provide here, and I want to make sure this isn't coming off in a negative "game is bad" light. The game is great, I'm just not great at it.

In other areas, the music slaps (though after failing a battle, there was some bugs in the music engine), the writing is delightful, and the artwork is amazing as always. It's a treat every time to play your games, and I'm wishing this game the best of luck in the play and rate.

Here's the recording. Hopefully it highlights the knowledge gap I had, and what your team can do to fix it. Cheers!

Good game overall but the biggest issue for me is a really slow combat.

Great job! Combat was a little underwhelming but art is absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you everyone for the nice comments!

We really were aiming to try and make a unique combat, with all that it entails, making it interesting, explaining it without being annoying, keeping it fun and allowing player agency. I can see it might get slow specially when there are many enemies, but as usual we were too ambitious on the scope and time for balancing was scarce

Thank you for making that video @100th-coin, after watching it I can see the balance of those combats is way too hard, but I am glad you could enjoy it nonetheless!

I absolutely love the character design the long haired girl is my favorite.

I see this combat system you guys created is very interesting, its good when you see new turn based systems being born, this one could evolve into a more tatical one, but it needs some feedback with hovers and perhaps some options to speed them up so it does not get too grindy and slow... I also imagine this with movement options, having movement being a big part of the strategy perhaps, idk, I know I would love to see that, big fan of turn based combat and my favorite systems I found in valkyria chronicles and also in child of light in the clever use of interruptions and attack order.

the beachy vibe is lovely btw.

The combat mechanics were interesting but slow. I also loved the atmosphere of the exploration phases.

Whoa this game is such a lovely little adventure.

The spritework is fantastic; there's so much character, smooth animations, great details, and really refined colour palette choices. The game really tugs at GBA nostalgia for me (cute throwback to Team Rocket vibes at the end). And hot damn is the music a bop.

I kind of wish there was more depth to the combat. The branching paths between rooms is such a neat idea, but I felt like it kind of just boiled down to smushing numbers together, and the winner was just who had more/better stats. It would be lovely to have an XP or stat progression, or maybe some kind of cooldown abilities to use for each character. Like if Bullseye could escape from a room, or Cherrybomb could push everyone in a room out, or Goldenboy could taunt everyone in the room. They all fit such lovely niches already, I just needed a bit more to chew on strategically.

Overall, though, I had a really great time. Very impressive game, and wonderfully polished. Thanks for making it!

I really love idea with zones in combat. This could potentially grow into something new in turn-based combat!

chiara-sanviti 2024-04-18 20:31

The mechanics of moving the characters is interesting, I've never seen it done!

simon-rahnasto 2024-04-18 21:01

This was a very cool entry! You managed to create such a cohesive "retro"-vibe, with both the story graphics and audio :sunglasses:

The moving based on number advantage or "zone control" reminds me of a board game that I like a lot called "Root".

All in all, a phenomenal entry, great job!

Stunning entry ! I love the mechanics of your game, and the art is gorgeous ! Great job 👏

So cute graphics! Solid gameplay, nice entry! Good work!

The art is insane good scoring a 7 out of 5 for me! its impressive the amount of detailed, you managed to create will being pixel art. Additionally, the soundtrack is a real banger.

A speed-up option for combat animations would be a great addition, the pacing can be a bit slow. the camera during ranged attacks could be better placed. placing the camera between the target and the attacker would make a more clearer view of the action.

That said I enjoyed the game a lot, great work

life-lich 2024-04-22 16:25

ps: I have been looking for the music online and haven't been able to find it, if it is not to much to ask could you provide links

barce 2024-04-23 13:26

@life-lich thank you for your words! We are so glad you enjoyed our game. You are totally right about the speed-up feature, in fact, we discussed about it but we didn't have the time to implement it. Regarding the artists, these are their profiles: https://soundcloud.com/user-979340571-49422510 and https://pixabay.com/users/sinneschl%C3%B6sen-1888724/

Cute game graphics with pixel characters, but in the second part of game battles are too long. Id like to add speed feature.

filgru 2024-04-30 21:56

Woow!! Such an amazing idea for the game! I love the graphics and the gameplay. It's a bit too slow during the fights maybe but the music makes up for it. Overall great job everyone involved in this!!
