Fun! And kind of difficult. I like the grpahics

Funny intro, had me guessing what the game would be but it turns out it's satanic laser pointers killing flies so that you can eat your sandwich! The gameplay takes a bit getting used to and could use a better explanation, it also sometimes only tells you the controls with a controller (e.g. to go back to menu it had the menu button on Xbox controllers, but not which key you should press on the keyboard). Otherwise fun game and it's interesting that you managed to add a whole translation system in a jam game!

Really funny game with nice gameplay too. Good controls and fun to play, good job.

It's an interesting idea but it gets a little boring because of its length. Besides, it's a bit weird to have an ingame tutorial on the controls but no explanation that the goal is to dodge things and survive.

Really fun gameplay. Very difficult too, but proud to say I won the first time around. Second time I used a controller which felt a fair bit better. Felt very arcady in a good way. Love the way the background zoomed around with the fly as he moved. Really felt like a sense of being stuck in this tiny room with a mad man hell bent on his sandwich.

Great all around honestly, my biggest issue honestly was that the music didn't quite fit towards the end. I felt like my little fly was fighting for his life after being battered around and I was only just making it out by the skin of my weird little fly teeth -- but the music wasn't growing the match the tension/excitement. The visuals and gameplay were each doing their part. Considering you're being ranked on the audio which I assume you made though I don't think this is that big of a deal -- especially since I didn't use my audio for my game!

Again, great gameplay. Some more few nits that came up: * Why is there a laser pointer? I feel like I'm controlling the fly and all the lore is about the fly buzzing around of his own volition -- to avoid the debrie. * Upgrade that I think increases max health doesn't make the bar bigger. The number may be going up but as a player I don't feel like it went up.

@timidger thank you for putting so much thought into your review! this is very valid feedback. you're right, we did have a music producer on board :) i'm glad you enjoyed the game's tension. we chose the control theme to reflect the somewhat erratic and unpredictable movements of flies, i'm sure it's hit or miss :)

It is a very unusual and atmospheric game, the visual is quite interesting, it looks stylish and funny! Good luck with your project, I would have played it more than once!!!

This was an interesting one to go through! I really like the visuals, they're very appealing to me. I do agree with @timidger about the laser pointer. I originally thought that you could control the fly with either the arrow keys, or the mouse (which would be the laser pointer). It's a bit difficult, I personally couldn't figure out what to do when the pentagrams showed up, but I couldn't really outrun them. Good game you got going on!

gumibear 2024-04-17 10:02

@gabrimer i think there's an issue with playing the game on >60FPS, making it way harder. As far as I'm aware, there should be game-logic to prevent that from happening. We're still figuring out what's going on. If you want to give it another shot, try and lock your display to 60FPS :)

what a difficult experience. the vibes i got from the audio were spot on.

jdeedubs 2024-04-18 04:49

What a fun and trippy experience! It reminded me a bit of a game I used to play as a kid called Mr. Mosquito. Really cool graphics and sounds. I loved trying to snap up the powerups before they got away, and having to dodge the beams of light was a nice mix-up to the random debris.

Cool game, thanks for sharing!

I like the overall idea of the game, the graphic are really consistent with the atmosphere you wanted to create! It a little bit challenging :)

pigeonic 2024-04-19 16:04

This was such a fun game! I managed to get to the sandwich in my second try. I did notice that in the beginning I'd get more add-ons than later in the game, I don't know if it was just random but It would have helped for it to be the other way around when the difficulty increases too. Good job!

dams333 2024-04-19 18:13

So cool, first the story is really cool, and what about the global graphic ambiance, really like it. Good job !

trevor-lentz 2024-04-23 21:17

I love how the graphics rotate as you fly. While playing full screen the amount of static effect is a bit much, but definitely still playable. The controls are very responsive. Music is on point for the main loop during gameplay, just the right mix of ominous and moving forward tonally. Awesome work, especially for a jam.

prismapunch 2024-04-27 18:43

Very fun premise for summoning, I really liked the eerie audio when characters were speaking along with the rotating 3D-background, definitely something I haven't seen much of in other games. The game itself seems to have some kind of noise filter over it, which is cool stylistically but makes it a little difficult to follow the fly since he kind of blends in with the background.

Daym the art in this is crazy! I love how the search lights show you when a hazard is on the edge of the screen, super smart approach that I’ve never seen before!

I won! I love bullet hell games, was a good time! The audio was surprisingly spooky. Someone went really really ham with the screenspace postprocessing effects haha, gave it a cool over the top look. The 2d/3dness was very interesting, I am not even sure if I played any games that did 2D this way.

nozomu57 2024-05-02 18:54

Agree on the eeriness of experience, good job with this game! Homing on those pentagrams was tuper cool, I always felt at the edge of avoiding them and it felt rewarding :)

Sandwitch obtained!
