Cool game, but i think the sound is a bit fuzzy at times

scottal 2024-04-16 03:49

Took me a few tries to understand how to "summon" the abilities. Interesting ideas for sure!

naplz98 2024-04-16 03:49

I also have aphantasia! I think this is a great idea, love the art and the concept!

dubiousduck 2024-04-16 03:50

Love the concept and creativeness. It was so fun to play with!

mollusk 2024-04-16 03:52

The graphics are really nice, and the sound creates a great mood.

The controls to summon abilities seemed a little inconsistent, there seemed to be a wait time after using each ability that isn't indicated on screen. Waiting for the ability to recharge made it frustrating to get better at using the abilities.

delauraen 2024-04-16 04:01

It took me a second to realize how to activate the skills and combine the different abilities but once I figured it out it felt well designed. I like the different combination of obstacles.

The parallax is also super cool!

nathmate 2024-04-16 04:48

Cool zoom indeed.

Pretty art. The abilities need an in-game tutorial, their control scheme was a bit clunky.

poboy 2024-04-16 04:59

COOL ZOOM

Our game also had hyper-specific browser issues :) although yours ran fine for me in Brave. Love the concept, gives me a sort of Scribblenauts vibe. I played through the first levels again with all the ugprades to look for secrets but didn't look like there were any.

ruslana 2024-04-17 19:37

Nice game! Did I really have to jump while putting a box beneath me? :D that is the only way I found to go further.

bitlytic 2024-04-17 20:08

@ruslana The intended way was actually to use the rocket after jumping off the box, but midair box jumps works just as well

nomus 2024-04-18 01:21

Sweet and cute game, really liked the combination and the character design goes well with the idea, the music makes it peaceful and make the experience very relaxing.

The environment is really nice too, love the colors, and the game wasn't problematic for my colorblindness

I managed to go out of bounds since you restart the game with all the colors,by using a box and the glider to go to the left side

COOL ZOOM

jdeedubs 2024-04-18 04:37

Really lovely game!

The music, sprites and sound effects were a delight. I loved the use of the thought bubble to communicate which colours you had loaded up. All of the powers were enjoyable, felt unique and crucial in their own ways.

Superb submission, thanks for sharing!

dissonance-generator 2024-04-18 17:56

The music is delightfully serene, and the sfx fit perfectly with the old-school platformer vibe. The game gave the perfect amount of guidance and handholding. I want to do more with these abilities and come up with some creative ways to combo them, BotW style!

pandalk 2024-04-18 22:33

cool game overall, I wish the levels allowed for more combos and exploration of the usage of each combination of color, in other words, it was a bit short !

chrispy977 2024-04-18 22:33

Great package, wish it was a bit longer to get more experience with the different abilities. Also felt a little hand holdy at the end there. I would love to figure it out on my own a bit more.

courtneylapin 2024-04-19 18:46

This game is simply delightful. The art is very pretty and the music is lovely. I love the mechanics of combining the colors to summon things. I only wish there was more because it's so short! I was really hoping there would be trickier levels haha. It's fun when games are like "here's a bunch of tools/options, here's an obstacle, figure it out", and it feels like this game would be a good vehicle for that.

Great job, I loved this one :smile_cat:

smogen 2024-04-24 19:14

I was really excited to see someone make a game very similar to ours. However, I could not get the summoning to work so I didnt get past the first little cliff :( Would love to play it! Can you provide some expanation as to how the summons work? I clicked the blue colored square, the notepad and free space in the game world but nothing ever happened :/

bitlytic 2024-04-24 19:16

@smogen So those colors at the bottom are controlled by 1/2/3 on your keyboard. You pick two of them and it will let you use the drawing. So for example, pressing 1 + 1 will create a box which you can place by putting it down in the world. You start with just the box element, then as you progress you unlock the other two

jared-york 2024-04-24 20:22

What a lovely little game! Obviously with more time, more stages could be added harnessing each ability more and more. It was a little cumbersome using the 1, 2, 3 keys for the different abilities but I had it figured out more by the end of the game. Good job!

spica 2024-04-24 21:00

Love the time put into making each plant shake when walking nearby :)

farouchelark 2024-04-24 23:44

This was super cute and well done!

krummsakura 2024-04-25 00:51

It’s a really polished game. Art style and character design is gorgeous. Puzzles and the skills are well crafted. I wish there was more to play. Last but not least, cool zoom, as its name suggests, cool. Excellent job!

tucan 2024-04-26 16:38

Wow! I really liked your game! The idea, the different mechanics the graphics and the superb music! This is one of my favorites so far! I can see this turning into a full game with more time and polishing some things like the physics and control. Great job! Have a great jam!

smogen 2024-04-26 20:31

@bitlytic Ah, my bad! I read the 1-2-3 as inumerations instead of keys to press. Should have been obvious, brainfart on my end :D Real neat game! We had the same base idea. Guess great minds think alike! :D I really like the character design, especially in the thumbnail. The little signs give enough instructions for the player to explor the mechanics without getting frustrated and the abient music is nice and calm and fits well to the graphics. Although I do agree with the first comment that the jump sound is a bit "fuzzy" compared to the background music. Overall, really good polished game!

labcatgames 2024-04-27 17:19

I had a good time playing through the game. The level design as it relates to each ability was spot on, the tasks taught how to use your powers, and made experimentation quite enjoyable. Teaching mechanics without a tutorial or text is something I strive for personally, and you've absolutely nailed it! I liked the music and the overall vibes were extremely cozy and chill. Like some others I took the glider back and just flew off to the left; was a bit disappointed there weren't Metroidvania style secrets to revisit.

I do want to highlight some issues and provide some suggestions as well; the control scheme is extremely cumbersome. I cannot understand why anyone wants to make a sidescroller that isn't played with a gamepad. It's just so natural and also lends itself to couch play, which is where sidescrollers shine. Visually, it's a bit of a mess. If you want to scale pixel art, you can't do it all willy-nilly! Using the zoom fixes some of the artifacting on the main character, but then it's too far zoomed in, so pretty much just a novelty. It also becomes quite noticeable that the BG pixel size differs from the rest of the game. For a unified look, make sure every pixel is the same size no matter where it resides in your game. For instance the UI palette and notebook are relatively high res and look quite out of place.

It is an impressive feat for a game jam though! Smooth character controller and a bug-free experience is already a high bar that you've met, nice work!

runningopenloop 2024-04-27 22:29

Need more! BTW, I was really hoping to find a surprise when gliding far to the left when the game restarted you.... or maybe I just didn't glide far enough. :)

fun game! cute character!

(just randomly drew a vappy)

kallico 2024-04-28 08:55

I really love how the mechanics and level design really captures how it feels to draw without a strong visual image in your mind. Lily is literally having to leap before knowing where her feet will land. Placing that stroke on the paper before you know if it's going to capture your idea. I'm so touched, I might cry

bitlytic 2024-04-28 16:34

@thyoi OMG I love this art so much, we were so surprised to see this, it's so cute

newey 2024-04-28 20:23

@thyoi THIS IS SO CUTE OMG ;^;

beeb-gamecodecompany 2024-04-28 23:06

Really like the use of theme on this, summon stuff from the imagination. Controls weren't that intuitive at first but I really think a game like this has alot of potential, it reminds me of a Boy and His Blob. I probably am not saying anything other people haven't already said, but I just wanted to say I liked the theme use alot and more of this game would be fun I think...Music was great. And good atmosphere as well, not just magic like alot of others.

verti 2024-05-01 02:04

This is really nice. Would love to see it expanded into a fuller game if that ever happens

madness 2024-05-01 03:31

This game reminded me alot of the Scribblenauts games I used to play. Really loved how clean and polished the art looked, also a fantastic idea for the theme. Only critique I have is the summoning is a bit wonky but other than that great game!

leorean 2024-05-01 09:12

A nice short & sweet demo! The idea of the game has huge potential!

mibi88 2024-05-01 10:31

Impressive and good game, it's just a little bit too short I think, more levels would really improve it.

ava-skoog 2024-05-01 15:33

Very cool zoom indeed. And a good game! Graphics are cute, audio is sweet, and puzzles are fun :)

I like how the painterliness of the graphics match the mechanic with the palette, and the little details like bushes and other things on the ground moving. I guess it would've been nice if there was more of a connection between the colours and the stuff they enabled you to make to really lean into it.

Really relaxing music and nice sound effects. Good puzzles. Was fun exploring the combinations. I think all the signs made it a bit too easy. Getting a new colour leads to trying new combos out anyway so I feel like you don't need to hold the player's hand that much.

One thing that confused me or seemed inconsistent was how in the first level the correct solution was to put boxes on the floor spikes, but in the level that introduced the hourglass, landing on the box if placed the same way would hurt you?

Overall quite polished and nice! Could definitely do a lot more with this post-jam.

sleepystudios 2024-05-01 20:26

Really loved the graphics - as well as the animated elements and parallax, that came together really well. I really like the idea of the main mechanic but I will admit there was a decently big learning curve to go from it feeling clunky to working out the correct way to combine summons. Once you get it, I like that you can combine them together that's a really nice touch (and opens up the possibilities for more levels!) Nice work.

tomssuli 2024-05-02 11:43

Cool ideas and great graphics! I liked how the combining system was intuitive when you had tried it once. square and triangle form a rocket, line and square a hammer etc.

I liked the different abilities and even replayability in new game plus trying to get to new places. Too bad there wasn't more puzzles to solve. It felt like the game was just beginning when it already ended, but I understand that you can do only so much with a team of 2.

I could see this as a promising start for a longer game :)

shess 2024-05-03 14:13

Oh god I feel like a game journalist I had to browse through the comments in sheer panic until I found the 1-2-3 tip! The aforementioned sound issue I think I only experienced while trying to scroll the browser page up and down really fast, but that might just be me. ANYWAY Beautiful game with the chillest music ever and sweet graphics. Kinda reminds me of those pure and innocent times I could spend evenings playing flash games on Newgrounds and Kongregate T_T The world has become a much harsher place, eh.

n0va 2024-05-03 22:17

Very relaxing music and beautiful art
