LD55 — Summoning

Abyssal Ascent by Hadik 2024-04-25T00:50:30Z

Interesting game! The controls threw me off at first but I got used to them quickly. It was pretty fun to explore around and upgrade. Although I did wish there was more to find out there. The controls did feel jittery sometimes, like my tank would randomly stop going forward for a second. I also did get pretty laggy towards the end but luckily I found the exit shortly after that. Overall it was pretty fun, nice job!

Etsa Djavul by foolmoron 2024-04-20T21:31:49Z

Conceptually I think this is great, I love puzzle games that break the mold ...but in reality I didn't have the patience to finish this one. At the very least I finished the bottom row :smile_cat:

The etching sounds were also quite satisfying.

Great job on this!

Jiang Shifu by Sn4pi 2024-04-18T19:22:37Z

This game is easily my favorite of the jam so far! Everything is so on point, from the art, to the music/sfx, the character design, the animation, the mechanics. I love it all, and I would sink even more time into it if it were a full game.

I think if I have criticism, It's mostly about the hitboxes and teleports. Sometimes it's hard to tell EXACTLY where you'll teleport to, which is very important in precision platformers like this. There was also one time where my back was up against some spikes, and when I turned my character turned around, my hitbox shifted enough to kill me on the spikes. But these are more minor hinderances than anything.

jiang1.png There was also this spot in the last level. I think there's an invisible saw there? I don't know how else I would've died.

jiang2.png There was also this random safe spot lmao. Pretty minor but fun to share regardless.

jiang3.png

That last lantern will haunt me... but I loved every minute I played! Great job ya'll :smile_cat:

Nexus by denvil 2024-04-20T16:05:55Z

So it took a few tries and an adjustment in strategy, but the game becomes trivial once you have 3 heroes. I did enjoy figuring out how to game it though.

One aspect I liked was reading the quest descriptions, and the descriptions of our heroes actions. But at the same time it feels like there's this disconnect because im playing as a cute cat hovering over the world, and all the quests are very much fantasy themed. Not only that, it made me feel like the interesting adventures are happening elsewhere, and I'm stuck here as a manager :p (Not that I dont like the cute cat though!)

Overall, it was a nice game and I had fun with it, nice job!

Slay the Skull by Cambryx 2024-04-21T21:28:17Z

This was a lot of fun! The game is very well made. The art is appealing and the music/sfx all sound great. Bonus points for nice marketing with the thumbnail and challenging everyone with a time to beat :smile_cat:

slaytheskull.png

Only half evil. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Welcome to the Summoner's Shop by citsua 2024-04-20T18:22:59Z

Very well made! I was off to a rough start because I read in the book to just "follow the steps" for a summoning, but I didn't know where to find the steps... I thought the book only had 4 pages cause of the big tabs on the side, I didn't realize I could turn the pages :sob: I even saw the page that just said SUMMONS and thought "oh it's empty, I guess it'll fill out over time?" lmao

But after I figured that out, it was great! Such a chill vibe in the forest, was nice to walk around every day while looking for ingredients. I loved all the little storylines with all the customers and the shopkeeper. Summoning itself was also fun! I really liked that style of "do these normal actions but in a specific way".

I think my only other complaint is that, I sometimes had trouble knowing if I had the correct demon for someone or if I had to wait for a new demon. I mean it's part of the game, but it was also rough making an incorrect guess in the early game when money is low, then losing a lot of it on a failed summon... Thinking about it now, it was mostly the kids 2nd request that tripped me up, the others were pretty clear.

Minor issues aside, this is a great entry and a very fun game. Nice job!

Enforcement Bureau by wisstopher 2024-04-23T21:27:57Z

I was in the middle of playing and wanted to pause, but pressing ESC closed the game outright, oops.

I like the music and sfx, but I think the sfx are a little too loud in comparison.

The gameplay is fun, I enjoy a good management game, but the difficulty curve is pretty wild. Places get overrun insanely fast out of nowhere. Plus it feels like it doesn't matter how good you do since everything will automatically get overrun at the end, which is a little unsatisfying.

I did think the ending itself was pretty neat, nice job on that.

Overall it was a fun lil game, nice job!

Mori by fanatrick 2024-04-18T20:53:41Z

Fun as hell. Did a few runs to see how strong I could get...

mori1.png By this point, there is no strategy, it's all speed casting everything ahaha. Which is fun in it's own way but also ow my wrist.

mori2.png

Very well put together game and loads of fun, great job!

Franz Bardon's Practice of Magical Evocation by kr4ft3r 2024-04-20T20:10:21Z

Please give me something in the 3rd column PLEASE!

Pretty addicting lil game. Wish the blocks falling happened a little faster. Nice work!

Hellpet by Rayne 2024-04-17T23:08:42Z

Charming lil game. Fun slinging spells while keeping your doggo happy. Altho by the time I got used to the spells, it felt a bit easy. But overall, very nice work!

theGRIMOIRE_ by 0x0961h 2024-04-16T20:24:29Z

Great game! Loved the mood and chill music. The summoning mechanic was really interesting too. The third level is where i realized this game was gonna be harder than I anticipated lol, but 1-2 and 2-3 definitely took the longest for me. I did find it pretty difficult to think through puzzles since I would have to think about parts moving in opposite directions... sometimes i just had to try random things to come up with solutions. I had fun with it tho, good job!

Soul Dungeon by megalukes 2024-04-25T19:08:13Z

There's a handful of things I can nitpick but this is a very solid entry. The audio and art are really nice, the mechanics are good.

I think if I had to choose one thing to complain about, it's the length of the soul absorbing animation. When you're dealing with enemies and moving around a lot, it's nice when these kinds of animations are snappy, because players will be seeing it over and over again.

But overall, great job!

Stellar V by ahistyap 2024-04-18T19:57:06Z

Really adorable game, love the art! The gameplay leaves something to be desired though. When I tried to go chase down viruses, it seemed like my anti-viruses would trail off and be homing to random viruses. So I ended up hanging out in the middle of the map and spamming my skill and letting it do all the work until I collected enough plasma. But overall it's short and sweet, nice job!

Bean and Brew by RunicPixels 2024-04-26T22:26:51Z

Fun game, really solid on all fronts. Art direction is really good, the soundtrack is really good. The fact you have a leaderboard is great. The mechanics are fun and unique.

One thing that was a little annoying to me was how the main character (do they have a name?) would lose speed if they touch a wall or even when landing. Especially when trying to speedrun, it's a bit of a drag when you miss a jump cause you barely bumped a wall.

Another thing that was a little weird to me was the delay between summoning and getting boosted. I mean logically it makes sense, but in terms of gameplay it feels kinda unresponsive. It's especially frustrating in situations like... moving so fast that your frog spawns in a wall, or trying to dash while falling and seeing your goat fly past you over your head :sob:

Minor issues aside, this is a great game with plenty of replayability, awesome job!

Panpidech by Jeffez 2024-04-22T00:16:06Z

I'm in the same *boat* as other commenters, it's not bad just wish there was more to it!

Polarity by Avi 2024-04-22T23:46:49Z

Not bad! visually appealing and fun. Gameplay feels a little too easy for my tastes. I can just keep running thru asteroids and not worry about it since I heal at each satellite. The performance is a little rough too, explosions give me frame drops, and by the time I got to around 40 points, the entire game was running slower. Regardless, I had fun, good job!

Infinite Circuit Court by Rhoka 2024-04-17T15:44:54Z

This was a lot of fun! The visuals are great, from the 3d courtroom to the 2d jurors. It was a lot of fun reading through all the jurors profiles while deciding if I wanted them on my jury or not. Character design was really fun and that includes the giant eyeball judge with the curly hair lmao.

I think the part I had the most trouble with is knowing if I'm making good decisions or not. Like I got 4/5 cases to be innocent, but I dont know which jurors were actually good for my case. It's also stated that The Court is judging my actions, but I have no idea what that entails, or how to please them, or if I even need to worry about them? Having the ONLY feedback be "innocent" or "guilty" left me guessing a little bit. The performance report kinda helps with this but it's all the way at the end, and by then I don't know what I did to upset the jurors.

pr.png

I got this line which really left me wondering if the judge liked or disliked me in the end lmao

Also random thing, the elfs age is 0, I assume a mistake?

Despite all that, but I really enjoyed this one! It's very well made and a lot of fun to play. There's a lot to be proud of here, Great job!

Crystal Defense by Wieczny 2024-04-16T22:26:30Z

It's fun to play with the different elements to see what synergizes well, although in the end I just spammed everything on top of the crystal. The music is also preeeetty repetitive lol. But overall, nice work!

Fries&Bones by ArtoniX 2024-04-21T23:16:23Z

I was a little confused how to play at the start, but after some experimenting I managed to figure it out. It's pretty fun! I do enjoy a good management game. However I did have some issues.

I wish I could upgrade stations in different ways besides increasing storage. This could be things like, shortening cooking time, or auto storing cooked foods, or outputting multiple products at the same time.

I felt like the worker options weren't very good. For example, the fiend is awesome, but their mana cost is so high it doesn't feel worth it (unless theres some strong strategy involving buying mana refresh a lot while using them?). I also managed to summon a manager once, but they didn't output anything. Which is hilarious, but also a huge waste of money lmao.

I wish I could see exactly what was in my storage, ready to serve. It would help me make better decisions about placing my workers.

But overall I had fun with it, good job! :smile_cat:

Do the thing by Furtive Pygmy 2024-04-17T01:44:24Z

I had similar problems to other players. Got "softlocked" 2 times (i was generating fear very slowly but i didnt want to wait for that game over). Couldn't figure out how to start generating belief. Usually I would try to soldier through and try to beat the game anyway, but the fact that it's an idle game and alt-tabbing stops the game from advancing, I'm gonna leave it there for now. I also feel like free cam is a little odd, but understandable for a jam.

Problems aside it's a neat concept, with a bit more time I'm sure it'd be a good time. Nice work!

CrateCaster by Whismirk 2024-04-20T16:30:56Z

I was really hoping the music was original cause it was gooooood lol. But either way this game was great. I love the box summoning mechanic and the level design!

My most immediate issues were not being able to see EXACTLY where my cursor was. Sometimes this is fine, but the game doesn't lock my cursor to the window, so it's really easy to accidentally click out while playing. It's also just nice as a player to see where exactly I'm aiming.

Another thing that stuck out to me was the audio balance. The SFX are much louder than the music.

The story was really funny, but I feel bad for her in the ending lol. Let her summon crates!!

And just for fun, I found a little cheese strat in the last level

cratecaster.png

If you stack all your crates here, you can jump high enough to touch the ending :cat:

Anyway this was really fun! Great job on it!

No one makes the Grand Warlock wait! by Danga 2024-04-19T22:44:21Z

Super well done! The visual style is simple and effective. The music is good and the sfx are mixed really well. The gameplay is really fun and I love that theres multiple ways to deal with enemies. I started by just running up to them and hitting them, then I was reflecting projectiles, but in the end I figured out I could knock enemies off the ledge and had fun doing that.

grandwarlock.png

I also had this funny little mishap where I somehow picked up a live enemy. I think it happened while they where in knockback from another enemies projectile.

Overall I had a blast with this one, great job!

Hell of a job by boudoubouda 2024-04-17T19:19:40Z

This was a lot of fun, everything came together really nicely! Looks good, sounds good, and even replayed levels to get all As. Any complaints I do have would just be nitpicking. Well done!

Heart of the Cards by Profugo Barbatus 2024-04-22T00:01:24Z

**A BOOMER SHOOTER YOU SAY??**

This game is fun! I love the art style, both in the menus and in game. Those fluff balls are cute as heck.

However... I NEED TO TALK ABOUT GAMEPLAY!! The projectiles are SLOW, perhaps TOO SLOW? I can explode my own projectile by walking forward, so it's like a snails pace projectile to me.

Speaking of the projectiles... I can see that my projectile makes an EXPLOSION when it hits something. I was sad when I couldn't rocket jump lmao, but it's understandable, especially for a jam. Physics are no joke!

You could have INSTANT REPLAYABILITY VALUE by adding a run timer. Stuff like this is great for speedrunning! *Let me speedrun your game* :smiley_cat:

This is also just my OPINION, an opinion backed by THOUSANDS OF HOURS of fps gameplay, but an OPINION nonetheless: auto-jump and auto-shoot would be very nice please and thank you  Having to constantly hit these buttons doesn't do much for gameplay, and is taxing on fingers/wrists.

Overall I loved it, it's good, good job, you did good! I'LL PLAY YOUR GAME MORE JUST TELL ME WHEN YOU UPDATE IT!! :smile_cat:

Library Fighter II Turbo by JoeShanahan 2024-04-17T19:43:09Z

You had me at "These kind of arguments might stand on the internet, but not in a place as sacred as the library!"

Concept is 5/5, I love it lmao. Great twist on summoning. Great humor. Had a blast playing. Admittedly I was a little confused at first, because I thought I had to attack my opponent directly, and to be honest I kinda wish I had to attack my opponent rather than get units past my opponent. But otherwise I love this game, great job!

Trench Warfare by mlists 2024-04-26T21:16:53Z

It's pretty fun, strategy games like this are nice. I couldn't beat the 2nd stage lol. Between the cost of new units and getting sniped constantly, I could never seem to keep up, but maybe I just couldn't find the right strategy. It is a little annoying making a new unit only for them to die before you can use them.

The leader system is interesting and maybe the most intriguing part of this game, but it's also a little frustrating since you NEED to have them marching with your units, which makes it a huge hinderance if they get sniped.

Personally I think I would enjoy it more if units had more than 1 hp, or if sneaking was more viable. But overall it's pretty good, nice job!

Summon Get It! by Chrispy977 2024-04-18T04:01:39Z

Playing as a priest who transforms to beat up enemies is pretty hilarious. The gameplay is a little rough as it's sometimes hard to land hits while also trying to not get hit, especially with bigger swarms of enemies. I also wish that when you died, you could restart the stage instead of having to start from the beginning. But overall, nice work.

Cat Summoning Terminal by Patrick Pang 2024-04-17T22:24:46Z

Short and sweet lil game. UI is clean and pleasing to look at. Bonus points for nice cats. Well done!

Sorry, I can't come to the summoning today by Malte Hedenstrom 2024-04-19T18:27:51Z

Really well made and fun game! A nice twist on the theme as well. The art is great and so is the gameplay.

I did have a couple of issues though. There was a couple times where it seemed like I was being pulled even tho visually there was nothing attached to me. There was also one case in particular where I stood exactly where a portal spawned and lost instantly lmao.

But otherwise I had a lot of fun with this one, great job!

Spoonmaster by RumiaObsessed 2024-04-20T19:14:58Z

Hilarious concept. The music is really good, I love the use of silverwear samples haha.

The gameplay is a little straightforward, and it's pretty short overall, but it was fun regardless. Great job!

Also you can kill the boss before the fight starts :p

Pictomancer by RobLaro 2024-04-16T21:49:26Z

I really liked the concept but I had a lot of trouble drawing the glyphs fast enough. Any of the more complicated glyphs felt impossible, so I just had to use the easier ones and eventually boost my souls with 4 candles to beat the game. I think I also just had bad luck with items and had to wait a while to get the right ones. I'm with some balancing I would really love this game. Other than that, looks and sounds great! Nice job!

Aphantasia by Bitlytic 2024-04-19T18:46:15Z

This game is simply delightful. The art is very pretty and the music is lovely. I love the mechanics of combining the colors to summon things. I only wish there was more because it's so short! I was really hoping there would be trickier levels haha. It's fun when games are like "here's a bunch of tools/options, here's an obstacle, figure it out", and it feels like this game would be a good vehicle for that.

Great job, I loved this one :smile_cat:

Voiceborne by Blues 2024-04-17T16:07:01Z

I really wanted to play this but it seems like it wasn't getting my mic. Would be nice to have a little menu to choose audio devices, or do a mic check. I tried both the web version and downloaded version.

Side note, I died way faster in the downloaded version of the game, wonder what that's about. Side note x2, The audio and visuals are great! awesome presentation!

LAST MINUTE AWAKENING by ZombieWalrus 2024-04-20T22:00:27Z

This was pretty cool! The combination of rhythm and runner turned out to be quite fun. Feels like a nice challenge to split your focus between the two :smile_cat:

I also quite liked the music and art. Everything looked and sounded great!

Biggest issue I think I had was when a rock and hole spawned right next to each other, making it impossible to clear (or so i assume...)

But overall it was quite fun, great job!

Circle of Life by UniOwl 2024-04-17T19:02:02Z

I think that any criticism I have has already been said lol, but here's my 2 cents. It's a fun game with adorable art and nice replayability. Would be nice if the gem lines were more visible. Would also be nice if it was easier to tell if two gems can make a connection, I had a few times where it looks like they're generally pointing at each other, but the angle was wrong so i just put in 2 gems for no reason. It's fun trying to strike a balance between putting out monsters fast or taking the time to figure out how to make more connections, and thus a stronger monster.

SPELLBINDER by eugene-b 2024-04-18T17:13:42Z

I was a little confused on what to do at first. I was just enjoying flying around wondering what all the pretty structures were for lmao. Suddenly a battle! Which I promptly lost. But after that I caught on that I had to collect elements from the structures in order to make my warriors stronger.

I will say, the game is pretty grindy, which im not a big fan of. Like I spend all that time gathering resources to make a big warrior, but then they're gone after 1 battle even if they survived? And that's not to mention all the resources lost from failed battles. Which means most of the game im just sitting there spamming E to gather resources.

Another hinderance here is the timer. Sometimes I need more than a minute to gather what I need. So I would go gather, fail the battle on purpose, then gather more. Other times, I already had a ton of resources and wanted to get to the fight right away, but had to wait the full minute.

I think that the early levels were a little more interesting because you had to carefully balance your limited warriors. Something that would help a lot with this is health bars, because as is, it's hard to tell just how tanky your warriors are OR just how good their damage is. That sort of feedback is important to a player when they have to spend resources on defense or attack stats.

The later levels are kinda tedious because you have so many warriors to summon, which not only means gathering more resources, but also having to drag down resources for every single warrior during summoning.

Also, is there a final level? I got to level 11 before softlocking myself with a silly bug I found...

infiniteCatGlitch.png

I found out that spamming the "next warrior" button lets you summon A LOT of warriors lol. But yeah, unfortunately I softlocked there so that's where I stopped.

Overall it's a very well made game with appealing art and music, very well done on that! But I would say it needs work on the core gameplay loop.

Necrogirl by Constance 2024-04-16T23:47:19Z

Pretty nice game. It's fun to pick what you're summoning to try and make a nice composition of allies. I did have some troubles getting my summons to follow me around at times, and I did notice some enemies that wouldn't move. I also saw 1 enemy wandering around on the water lmao. But otherwise pretty fun, nice job!

fdg.png

Mindows Chess by foufoufou 2024-04-19T16:58:38Z

It's a fun concept, but there's some hurdles keeping me from beating the game.

For one, the performance is pretty bad. My framerate is pretty low as is, and it goes even lower during cutscenes. I even see console messages that the game is using too much graphics memory.

Secondly, the gameplay is very hard. It took me many tries to beat the first level. And it doesn't feel like I got better and was able to overcome the challenge, it felt like I got lucky spawns that were actually manageable.

Thirdly, it can be a bit buggy. If I get to the cutscene on the first level then lose, then I hit "try again", the next time the cutscene won't play anymore and I'll just lose instantly. So I have to quit every failed attempt. Also, the one time I got to level 2, I placed down a Knight to kill a row, except it didnt kill the enemy, and I lost because of it.

I really wanted to like the game because I think it's a fun concept, but as is, it's too frustrating. Regardless, I hope you had fun making it! There's definitely potential here :smile_cat:

Crimes Against Carrots by NonDev 2024-04-22T03:17:51Z

This is funnnnn, who know beating up carrots would be so fun lmao

At first the best score I could get was around 700~. I kept trying to do COOL JUGGLES off the side wall, but damn those are hard. Part of me wishes each wall bounce gave extra score haha. As a side note, I didnt realize I could punch upwards until I looked at the game page again and noticed it happening in the gifs.

But then I remembered there was a combo meter, and so...

begaydocrime.png

I know I could do better, but that's my best for now. I am curious what the best dev score is tho :smile_cat:

Anyway, game good! great job!

Eulerian Demons by ghettobastler 2024-04-17T00:18:44Z

This game is fun! Easy to understand the rules but very quickly becomes tricky when you gotta compensate for many parts. The demons are hilarious, but the 8 arm one is definitely my favorite. Great job!

eul.png

Damned Koi by Phillip Schulze 2024-04-17T14:46:35Z

Interesting concept, but I did have a few issues. -If I had enough to summon a certain fish, I could spam click and spawn a lot more than I could've bought. Bugs are expected, but this one was pretty notable, as it's easy to do, and makes the game way easier. -I was a little confused on what some spells did, and also what the green status effect on stage 2 and 3 did. -Was unsure what the win condition was. After playing I think it was to reach a certain number of Ghost Koi? But it would be nice if it was more clear during gameplay. -Whenever I got a game over or advanced to the next stage, the game state is paused. Summoned fish would just float in the air lol. But at least pausing and unpausing fixed it.

Regardless, I had fun with it, and I could definitely see it being more fun with a few tweaks. Nice job!

Squiggle Sorcery by LoongYi 2024-04-19T19:08:34Z

Quite a visually appealing game. The gameplay is somehow too complicated and too easy at the same time. I didn't fully understand how I should be combining cards, but I was able to make a strong enough god to defeat all the enemies with ease.

But regardless, it is an interesting concept. Well done!

FantasyFootball by ScurvyStevon 2024-04-19T18:01:24Z

Neat game! Although the computer kept getting me by sending the ball down the side. Even when I tried to place my summons to cover it, they would often run elsewhere to fight something. Luckily I could use the same strategy to score my own goals, but it also made the game feel like a dice roll. Also my framerate was kinda bad :(

But overall I had a good time with it, good job!

wow, demons by ColourArc 2024-04-24T00:55:02Z

My strategy of rushing the enemy base proved more effective than I expected and I beat all 3 levels doing that lol. Altho I did go back and beat the 3rd stage by spreading out my units and engaging the enemy where they were attacking. pretty fun! I also like the music too, great job!

Slaymore by Joshua Miller-Pio 2024-04-17T17:46:55Z

A fun little game with beautiful art. I do feel like the SFX could use a little balancing, and it would also be nice if the music was looping. As for the gameplay, I did enjoy running and swinging my sword around, but the summon mechanic didn't seem to work properly for me. I killed a variety of enemies, but I was only ever allowed to summon the slime. Also, some of the enemies with ranged attacks would send their projectiles through walls, so sometimes I would just get hit out of nowhere. But overall it's pretty fun, nice work!

Blood of the Altar by Hot Noggin Studios 2024-04-16T22:54:31Z

Had a lot of fun with this! Everything is very cohesive and well made. My best run was 1:53. Great work!

Welcoming the WORLD-EATER by coolasjake 2024-04-23T01:54:18Z

I really like the summoning mechanics here. Combining the runes to make new summons is a really nice twist for an idle game like this! The audio and mood was really nice too. Great job!

Grave Dogger by sekalo 2024-04-19T17:13:59Z

Short and sweet! I like the distinct visuals. The audio also gives a nice spooky feel to the game. The gameplay is a little straightforward, makes me wish there was some other element to it. Overall, nice work!

Code Summonary by Mantodea 2024-04-24T01:19:40Z

It's a pretty fun concept! I like the idea of being able to swap out different buffs, or even sacrificing movement to gain an extra buff in a fight. It allows for some interesting strategies for players!

Unfortunately there's not much enemy variety, but it's understandable for a game jam.

Great job!
