LD55 — Summoning

Summoners Chess by Widerhold 2024-04-15T13:43:45Z

Very polished and addictive! Clever and original idea.

My only complaint would be that I didn't get any use out of the air boost and earth wall abilities, it always seemed preferable to either move or attack in a turn rather than using one of those.

Wow! I have no complaints about this one on any front, it's great. I got up to round 25 and then stopped playing because I realised I'd been going for like 40-50 minutes and I should probably stop lol. Very addictive game.

The art looks great, and the game is fun. I really liked the idea of balancing having your guys working and having them rest to generate more summoning power to get resources.

Samuel, The Summoning Squirrel by Flamboozle 2024-04-15T21:50:10Z

Nice visual style and fun to play. I know you said you ran out of time but I thought there was a good variety of different stuff to summon.

My only real complaint was that it felt to me like you should collect souls/graves by running into them rather than pressing a button to pick them up. That's how it is in many other games in this style I could think of, but I'm sure you had a reason for doing it differently.

City Frustration Beer by ZevsEHG 2024-04-15T16:30:49Z

Really liked all the funny/interesting characters you came up with, and the weirdly spooky environment.

Bendirat by Enad96 2024-04-15T15:16:01Z

The visuals and the music created such a good atmosphere that it actually made me wish it was a little less tongue in cheek. I liked the character writing.

Count me as one of the people who was too small brain to understand the puzzle and had to use the cheat though lol

Get well soon!

Mable’s Realm by yurgio 2024-04-16T22:28:00Z

Fun game with an awesome and original aesthetic. Cool take on a summoning mechanic by combining it with a matching colours game, with the different colours spawning different type of soldiers.

Only thing is, I think sometimes the enemies would get behind the place where my guys would spawn, and my guys wouldn't go back to defend my base. I also got caught a little off guard when losing pulled me straight back to the main menu, I think it would have been nice to have a simple 'you lose' screen.

@Shanzai I hope I didn't come across as too critical, I did think the game was great, one of my favourites so far actually, and obviously in a higher league than my little effort. Will definitely check out the updated game!

Cool concept! The layered sounds got a little maddening though, not gonna lie

It was a little fiddly and frustrating inputting the melodies by targeting the objects in the world, there were a couple of times when I knew the pattern but I kept clicking the wrong thing or not clicking in time or something.

Before You Summon by unkilledshadow135_Alex 2024-04-16T14:14:27Z

As others have said it took a little while to figure out what to do (I still don't know if the package screen matters at all or how to use the tape). Once I figured it out it was simple but fun.

The artwork and monster designs are great!

Frame Wizards by AlezJL 2024-04-17T14:30:53Z

Really neat and creative puzzle mechanic. Took me a minute or two to figure out the tutorial and what I should be doing, but once I got there I enjoyed the logic puzzles a lot, and the art was really good.

Imp Master by Owtuvammo 2024-04-15T08:50:29Z

The tutorial text in the first level didn't really help me that much, I had to figure out what to do through trial an error - in particular I wasn't aware I had a character that I could control with WASD. Once I realised that, it took a couple minutes of messing around to figure out what it meant to recall and call imps.

Once I got into the swing of things I really enjoyed the puzzles. I liked that there were new mechanics added each level, really kept me engaged even though my small brain usually gets impatient with puzzle games. Very inventive central mechanic inspired by the theme is the highlight of the game.

The Wickedness by IRoRoI 2024-04-15T09:21:24Z

Took some trial and error to figure out how to play, but once I got there this was really interesting. The battles were good brainteasers.

I love the way the game looks, very nice atmosphere. I especially enjoyed the clever framing of looking down at a map inside the house itself to control it.

Canoe Summoner: I Rose To The Top Despite Having a Garbage Skill by Sicosiber 2024-04-15T18:04:40Z

Fun original combat mechanic! I played until I unlocked the super jump and parkoured over the cliff outside of the map and couldn't get back - but that's my bad.

Overall I enjoyed it, though it would have been extra cool if there was a more specific objective to complete.

Summon Inc. by nemaberci 2024-04-15T16:14:09Z

That was fun! I like these creative/funny interpretations of the theme, so much more inventive than I could come up with.

The first level took me 4 attempts before I figured out what order I wanted to do the tasks in, but the second was far easier - maybe because I understood the game better by then, but also the timer felt a little more forgiving.

Chimera Combat by P3ngui 2024-04-16T17:15:04Z

A fun auto-battler. I like the wide variety of different parts you can use, and the game-loop is pretty addictive. I made it to round 44.

One possible improvement would be a way to see how the stats of the new part compare to the current part you have in that slot, like +3 or -1 etc.
