Loved the idea and the overall vibe :) The concept seems strong and its nice that you can play with different deck/characters. I also laughed at the music. Would have loved a little tutorial to simply show the move mechanic, and more "Juiceness" with particles and so on, but anyway very nice game !
This looks to be a very good game. Maybe not for a Jam. We usually only spend 5 mins between DL, playing, and commenting. This game needs more time than that.
I clicked on this game because it was thematically very different than the other games I was looking at, and it was a lot of fun! It had very "megaman battle network" combat which I always love, My only thought with the game is that I wish that summoning an ally costed a turn instead of just being able to summon one whenever, I ended up playing less defensively and spamming allies until I quickly won. Super fun game and it made me laugh quite a bit! keep up the good work!
Great idea, wonderful execution. Pretty mind boggling that you achieved this level of polish in a jam, the game feels complete, even if it's pretty quick to go through all the genres and try them out.
@herka yeah the Miro board is full of "add polish, add animation, add particles" and we just ran out of time. It's a miracle the game is even playable honestly, but would've love to have a bit more time for the juice.
@sicosiber YES! I forgot about Battle Network but you're totally right! My main inspiration was an old game called Magic the Gathering - Battlegrounds, but I played so much battle network back in the day...
@jnur Thanks! My dream is to be able to take part in a gamejam where I can just focus on polish and UI but it's hard to get a big enough team together - so usually I'm needed in other places too. But glad that it still felt polished to you!
Haha, this game was hilarious! An amazing amount of content in such a short time. Well done! Are frog facts a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference? :D
@fredrik-andersson nope, that one isn't a reference, but it should've been! mostly we were just trying to imagine going to a library, and all these people reading completely different books, and then imagining what the most ridiculous match ups might be. Someone just being obsessed with a book about frogs seemed like a fun thing to mix in with all the fictional characters.
*(...oh and once I found that dance music with frogs in the background, the deal was sealed)*
Interesting game! I like it!
This is fantastic! The graphics and sound were exactly right for the kind of feel it was going for, and the gameplay felt smooth and crisp. Our game was sort of similar in mechanics, but presents completely differently - I love seeing the contrast!
Also, love the subject matter - libraries are great, and it's always good to see their virtues being celebrated in everyday ways like this. It's also nice to have something that's a little different from the typical content/style/sense of place that game devs tend to gravitate towards in jams like this.
Really appreciated the vibe and execution that you were able to cultivate with such a focused, contained game experience - extremely well done!
The concept is hilarious, loved the idea and the attention to detail. It was fun to send mr. Darcy to battle some robots and Peruvian fighting frogs :D I did feel that the abilities of the summons didn't matter very much though. Also, the art style is cute and funny. Overall it was an enjoyable experience!
A new take on chess, not bad
Loved it, good writing, great humor. Cute enough in a sort Pepe kind of way. Overall it played pretty smooth and it was satisfying to take down all three enemies. I liked the variety of units too, impressive for a jam!
I liked the idea and the presentation was great, but I think the gameplay needs some refinement. I thought it was going to be a tactical experience where you could plan out your moves to counter your opponents actions, but I ended up just spamming fighters across the board making sure they dont kill each other. It didn't even matter what each fighter did, just send them out and hope the enemy randomly steps in their path.
I think the problem is that both you and the enemy have too much freedom to move and place fighters. There is nothing to force you to think about what your doing. If you're out of fighters, just pick up a new page. If there's an enemy in your way, just jump around and wait for them to pass. There's no risk in just waiting for an opening.
I think it would've been better if you had to protect like a base or something at the end of the board. That way you can't just wait for a strong enemy to pass, you have to counter them and put yourself at risk by stepping in their line of fire to send a fighter out. This would make the game a lot slower paced and more tactical but I think you could keep the pace close to what it is now depending on how you implement it. Maybe you could have strong fighters and weak fighters and the players can only summon a strong one after a few rounds or something. That way the small fighters can keep the pace high by forcing the player to dodge and intercept while the game slows down and becomes more tactical when the strong fighters are summoned.
You had me at "These kind of arguments might stand on the internet, but not in a place as sacred as the library!"
Concept is 5/5, I love it lmao. Great twist on summoning. Great humor. Had a blast playing. Admittedly I was a little confused at first, because I thought I had to attack my opponent directly, and to be honest I kinda wish I had to attack my opponent rather than get units past my opponent. But otherwise I love this game, great job!
@skleembof @courtneylapin Thanks for your feedback! The gameplay is definitely not particularly refined, and the balance totally broken, we changed our mind on what the objective should be about five hours before the deadline - originally it was going to be the case where you lost if you ran out of book pages. You could also run anywhere on the board, we changed that last minute too
None of us had made anything like this before so we used the jam as a chance to get some experience in something new. It didn't come together as a cohesive game experience, but I'm glad to hear people are still getting enjoyment out of what is there!
The graphics are nice and the gameplay is interesting, I like the combination of chess and playing cards

Nice game! I like the design and the sounds too. It was really fun, thank you for this game :)
This is definitely the most hilarious game I've played. And actually has really fun and interesting gameplay!
very nice visual style, it would be cool to add some sfx on summoning and abilities
"Think twice about having a different opinion next time" XD
It took some time to understand game mechanics, but eventually, I figured it out and the game become fun.
Brilliant game & concept, and hilarious! It took me a couple tries to understand the mechanics, but then it was great. I chose the classic sci-fi novel Don't Create the Torment Nexus first, which seemed pretty OP! The mixture of card & turn-based movement works well, and it's very fluid. I'd love to see more of this, especially with different types of movement & abilities for the summons.
Amazing job! Very cool idea and incredibly polished for a jam game.
Brilliant gameplay! The turn-based global movement, the march of the summoned, and to pick up cards under the pressure of enemies approaching, all together successfully created an expressive experience! The difference of the cards is also admirable.
Hah, Nice fun game with simple graphic! Great job!
I didn't *really* understand what was going on but hopping about and spawning whenever I had cards in my hand seemed to get me a win. The friendly fire, though... I rarely had two spawns out at the same time for more than a round or two before one of my spawns ate the other. Cute art, great sounds.
Managed to win all the arguments! Love the art work, especially the UI animations, and the music was great too. I think I managed to cheese some of the fights by spamming charge-bot lol. Also lots of funny card descriptions. Great work!
Really fun once I got a rhythm for how the game works, looking forward to a post jam release with more challenging fights? The enemy AI seems a little too easy but it was still fun nevertheless, Frog deck is really fun to play.
I like it, the art is cute and the gameplay not too difficult to learn. I liked that I could body block the opponent's summons. The music choices were... choices. :cat: I ran into some weird glitches when trying to select cards, sometimes they just wouldn't trigger until I moved my mouse around a bit.
That's a fun one! There's a few mechanics I didn't quite feel like I understood, like how to intercept enemies right before they moved, or what special abilities each card was supposed to have.
This was fun, although I wasn't thinking too hard to avoid enemies. You might want to force the player to think through their moves more. Also, the graphics was very good and polished (for example, the transition animations).
I love these graphics! Even though it's 'programmer art', everything is put together in a way that makes it so cohesive and nice. Also, it's epic how each fighter has their own theme song!! I noticed this while battling the frog facts guy
The gameplay is pretty unbalanced as it is right now - which is completely understandable since you mad lads steered the game in a completely different direction in the last minutes of the jam XD - but this has the potential to have the complexity of Chess with it's own tactics and strategies as well!
Epic entry :sunglasses:
Congrats on a cute funny game with a lot of content! I'm not sure what is the best strategy except for spawning the characters close to the enemy and mostly just avoiding the enemy's spawns. The character movements feels a little "floaty", maybe giving them drop shadows helps.
The summoning theme is perfectly executed with engaging gameplay loops. Cute and interesting art with cohesive sound. Great entry!
