LD55 — Summoning

Summoning Ritual by velvetlobster 2024-04-17T23:00:08Z

Hey! I think my computer does not like your game because it crashed twice while I was trying to play it (second time, it progressively got slower, and when I checked and my GPU was at 100%)

Which is sad because I’d really like to see the ending! The pixel art is great, the music really sets the mood and I got instantly hooked by the small "cutscenes" and the good doggo! I stopped twice at the moment the mage is reading his spellbook. I’ll try coming back later (maybe after a reboot or two my computer will cooperate more ^^’) to see it all!

Library Fighter II Turbo by JoeShanahan 2024-04-16T15:42:40Z

You had my interest with the title of the game, you won me over with "Don’t create the Torment Nexus" (with which I crushed romance novels! :))

Illusions of Grandeur by Koolruz 2024-04-23T09:03:29Z

I’m so bad at this. So, so, so bad :’)

Like, I watched the video above to try to help me figure out the solution to the third puzzle and I *still* failed to reproduce it :’)

But it’s a great game idea! I 100% understand it’s a "it’s not you, it’s me" situation

Spirit Edge by BadPiggy 2024-04-18T12:24:17Z

Happy to be, I think, the missing 20th rating!

I had great fun, the controls are super tight and feel great, the pixel art is simple but works well with the 3D area!

I do wish the enemies were a bit easier to avoid after they’ve started their attack animation, but that may just be me being bad at the game and wanting to keep going for longer :)

Incorporeal by rrsmtz 2024-04-23T09:46:21Z

Fun game! I liked trying out combinations, but the blood demon ended up being angry with me… :’)

Good job! :)

Parmigiano Rolliano by LiquidFunk 2024-04-23T09:39:32Z

Fellow cheese connoisseur 🧀 I had fun, and enough flavor! :)

Summorning Routine by FishMasterino 2024-04-17T23:43:22Z

The control scheme is super clever, it caused me to strategize about where I would let out my pent-up rage! Art and sounds are also cute :)

(But who puts their toothbrush so far from the sink? I lost precious seconds because of it! :))

Against the Titan by CodeRaurus 2024-04-16T22:47:27Z

I had fun! The graphics, music, and little feedbacks as keys are pressed convey a really great mood in your game.

I agree with the other comments here though, it starts too slow and does not build up quickly enough, I also went for the speed upgrade everytime and it felt like things did barely change when I did.

Still, great mood, it felt a bit like a meditative experience :)

Entity Summoner by Usenrame 2024-04-16T22:30:29Z

I managed to summon Einstein on my first try! \o/

Super fun game, I had a bit of trouble understanding what to do in the beginning but the feedbacks are well done and pointed me in the right direction! I only failed to finish the very last summon with 3 chances! :)

Death Death Resurrection by Lachlan James 2024-04-17T09:25:47Z

Fun idea, the prefixes are a great addition, it reminded me a bit of the days of playing Magicka and trying to summon big spells :)

I have to confess that I totally missed the fact that the hero had multiple modes and was affected differently by the enemies though (I’m only reading the full description after playing the game), I won by throwing everything I had at him in the end 😅

Exorcist Pianist by Aviv Levy 2024-04-23T09:30:46Z

Wow! This is so great!

Everything works so well together! The pixel art looks great, the mechanic is cool. I wonder if this could be used to make something a bit more melodic? But anyway, it’s a really really fun entry!

And having to freestyle to restart the game is like the cherry on top of everything! Great job! :)

Haunted Cartomancy by Norah 2024-04-16T23:02:41Z

Wow! The 3D art, the beautiful cards… You really nailed the mood!

The web version still bugs out for me after getting the very first item, and sadly I also got a blocking bug in the downloaded version too (after I got the key in the card, I couldn’t interact with the NPC anymore)

Still, it’s saying something that after getting blocked twice, I’d still like to be able to see the ending of your game’s story. I’ll try it again when it’s fixed!

Furriend: A Paw-some Summoning Odyssey by pralista 2024-04-18T11:50:02Z

Your game starts with its own theme song? How??? 🤯

It is so well polished, so cute, sounds great, and fun! Really, great job!

Pizza Lord : Slice to the beat ! by Mealky 2024-04-16T15:29:09Z

Capture d’écran 2024-04-16 172608.jpg

Had a bit of trouble undestanding how to play at the beginning, but in the end I gave the demon lots of pizzas and had fun, nice funny rhythm game!

(I think I got a few bugs though, voices sometimes not triggering on the 4th beat, and the beat only coming out of my left speaker / headphone)

No Tea Time for Slimes by HermitGamesmiths 2024-04-23T08:31:56Z

Cute little platformer!

I got stuck at one level where you have to… maybe do a tiny jump to get over a big chasm? Or grab a rock to be able to jump less high and go through it? I don’t know, tried both, still died!

But it’s cute, I liked the intro cutscene and the funny music (… though I have to admit that it kind of got on my nerves when I got stuck ^^’)

bergs by burnttoastdev 2024-04-18T00:18:44Z

What a great game! I love berging so much <3

Illegal Summonings by FFenril 2024-04-17T09:34:42Z

Thank you all for the kind comments! It may not be a direct continuation of this, but I do think I’ll try to build on this concept :)

@joeshanahan I will definitely add multiple choices in the future, or think of more complex ways to answer! And yes, I *did* hope you’d count every character in the level before finishing it :)

@rockers I’ve debated about letting players skip the intro, but 1- No time, didn’t want to slap a button on it and didn’t want to have people skipping it by mistake, because 2- I’m kinda proud of it and want everyone to see that intro! (but I understand it’s a bit long-winded, sorry :))

Illegal Summonings by FFenril 2024-04-18T13:34:20Z

@funnypumpkin Oh, sorry about that :disappointed_relieved: Does your setup have anything special I should know about to try and fix this? You’re the first one to report an issue with the controls like this, so I have no clue about how to reproduce it ^^’

Illegal Summonings by FFenril 2024-04-18T15:15:13Z

@funnypumpkin I’m also a Firefox user, but I can’t reproduce the bug for now, but I’ll keep an eye out if I can find anything!

In the meantime, thank you for playing! ^^

Illegal Summonings by FFenril 2024-04-22T08:36:20Z

@coderaurus Thank you for playing! If I do make more levels, I plan on adding logic to make it harder to bruteforce the answers :)

Illegal Summonings by FFenril 2024-04-23T09:59:18Z

Thank you all for the great feedback!

@aviv-levy There is currently no consequence for being wrong. If I were to develop this, I think I’ll explore more combinatory solutions (see also my next answer), to avoid having the player just be able to try them one by one. I’m not sure I want to punish player for failing to understand levels in future iterations, but I’d like to make sure they can’t just bruteforce it :)

@koolruz In a later version, I do believe I’d like to make use of both having the player noting small details (like the ghosts) and having to get a good understanding of the scene to build cool questions. Instead of just 1 choice, it’d be like 10 questions, and you’d have to answer all of them correctly to validate the level!

And I’m aware of the mouse sensibility issue (I’m not actually a FPS game player so yeah, I may have overdone it ^^’), I will fix it in a post-jam version of the game!

Scummoner by boba 2024-04-17T16:18:22Z

I had fun setting people on fire and dying when I realized I, for the third time, had set myself on fire too!

Impressive to have built a sandbox in such a short time!

I had a bit of trouble choosing a spell was a bit hard (my scrollwheel just went super fast through the options for some reason), but still it was fun! :)
