Well executed idea, good job
Nice concept, the idea of being able to connect an instrument is very cool ! Well done !
Interesting idea, the black and white with the numbers in read works nicely. Bit disapointed about the combination of numbers, I got only : "6, 54, 987, 01987" after a lot demons. The combinations could be more random ( I used to play piano :) ) but great idea and good job !
A cool job, it would be nice to add points.and you can compete with friends who is better^^
I really like the presentation of this game. Though I didnt end up connecting a midi controller its awesome that you included support for that. I did miss the title screen because I was so excited to click buttons and hear noises. But thats nothing reopening the game couldnt have helped me with. I dont really get how the scoring works but I had fun and I felt I could do better each time.
@yoyoj I wanted to associate every demon with the same sequence, but I understand it gets repetitive. The game does select one of three random sequences-patterns at the beginning for all demons though. And thanks :D
@willby @darsor Currently the game is about surviving long enough to beat it. I wanted to implement proper scoring but I didn't enough time!
Great idea with good execution and a solid art style. It didn't feel as satisfying as I expected when I first saw the mechanic, not sure how that could be improved.
Really cool concept! Love the simplicity, yet the theme feels somewhat deep. Amazing entry!
Amazing game! Everything felt really polished and I loved the idea of freestyling to restart the game. Also the possibility of connecting a midi controller is super cool! Quick, easy to learn, and very fun. Really good entry!
nice game with nice graphics and mood. connection to the theme is a bit lacking but overall great job! can see a lot being done with this concept!
Awesome art, and loved when my notes would make a nice sounding little melody!
Cool and unique take on the theme! Like the graphics and mood in it!
Really liked this, had a lot of fun going mad (also driving anyone in hearing range mad). Fun, if a bit repetitive, has lot of potential to typing game some actual song/rhythm shenanigans.
Amazing visuals, great concept, cool execution.
I wish the keys we press made some melody, that'd make the game perfect, but it's very close to perfect the way it is :) (Maybe it does and I'm just bad)
Great job !
Really enjoyed the mood that was being set. I might've missed something but it seemed that if this might hit a spot where a tune gets to be played as part of a progression. That would be pretty neat, otherwise the idea is pretty solid. I love experimenting with sound like that. :) Screenshot 2024-04-16 202720.png
Nice game ! It's quite hard but satisfying, very innovative and well executed ! The "music" is a bit disturbing but i guess that contibutes to the mood !
Love the art style and the concept! Well done!
Nice game! I love the combination of music and summoning!
thats so nice, I really appreciate the intergrated feeling and would love to see more of it. It would be cool to link the sounds to form pleasing music pieces, if that was added I think it'd be absolutely amazing. but already you've made a lovely piece and I loved it, truely wonderfull
Man that was really challenging lol, I like your use of colors and shape. the game is simple yet engaging, nice work!

Was very fun! Really enjoyed!
I really enjoyed that game. nice visuals and well music depends on yourself :D it is a really nice take on the theme. Some what i was missing is a high score or something to competitive against others :) like how long you had survived.
Super innovative really liked it! I would have loved if the notes I was playing would have meshed more into a song altogether. Maybe there could have been less demons at a time but the sequence then makes a real song. This way I found myself almost mashing at times. The art style is super gorgeous and it creates a great atmosphere!
loooove love love the idea of a musical keyboard typing game. very cool that you can connect a midi controller. very fun game.
this might be some kind of notation standard i'm just not used to but both capital and lowercase letters being used in the same pattern really threw me off and most of the mistakes i made playing were from mixing up those pairs (my problem isn't with the patterns themselves, the large intervals are nicely challenging, just with the way the notes are written)
also, something i found really cool and think is something to be played around with more if you ever expand on the game is the way multiple different enemies' note patterns flow into each other if they share notes.
Very stylish and atmospheric game. I liked how the restart is implemented. Everything is top-notch, but the only thing is that it's very difficult for me. I wanted to complete the game, but I only made it to the five-key demons
I'm really sad I no longer have access to my old keyboard. Very unique in the approach, nice entry!
the atmosphere and the art style reminds me alot of the FAITH series, the gameplay is very simple and straight forward, really enjoyable to play
great entry, super fun -- kind of reminds me of the beginning of frog fractions for some reason -- loved the sequencing of numbers. one suggestion for audio might be to include a backing track, and have the notes you play work with the backing track, rather than just a single major scale-- that might make the game feel more musical. instantly engaging game, and clear objective just from the visual information alone, so great work there!!
Oh! Very well built atmosphere. the dark, the silence, and then 1, 2, 3 notes. That's a very innovative gameplay and I liked it!
That's an amazing idea! It's so cool that this game can be played with a MIDI keyboard, too.
Amazing use of colors! It sets an amazingly depressing mood. Too bad I don't have my MIDI keyboard here, I would really enjoy playing that through it, never played any game on the MIDI keyboard. I think the enemies could have more variety. That said, I really loved this one. And I beat my inner demons, that doesn't happen that often!

What a great twist on the classic typing game idea. The art direction really drives home this feeling of solitude and that's also reflected in the sound of the melancholy piano, simple yet excellent. I'll admit I actually disagree with some of the other comments regarding the number combinations, I think having them be consistent lent itself to sounding like I was playing an actual song, which I thought worked really well with the overall theme it was going for. Very polished as a whole, great work!
Design is really cool and consistent throughout the game. It's really fun to play and pretty difficult to go far. We did a rythm game for the jam. I feel like it would be so cool if you could beat your inner demons with a specific melody. Thank you for the game :)
Loved the theme and game idea! The art and animations were nice - we used the Midi Control which was fun - good job!
This was fun! It was pretty repetitive though - I kept being prompted to play the same sets of notes over again. Iβd love more diversity!
Wow, that's a lot of comments. π
Really appreciate everyone who played and commented! I'll do my best to play your games soon. π
I definitely think the game could be a bit more melodic and maybe even have an accompanying backing track. It should probably have a high score feature and maybe more varieties.
@jm2k I wanted to differentiate between a3 and a4 etc, but ended up using capital letters for the higher notes as a workaround because I didn't have enough time to properly implement the number next to the letter without making the number an actual part of the sequence. π
Cool game, I liked it!
Freestyle to restart is a really clever idea, just something minor that I wanted to bring up.
It was pretty fun for a couple of minutes and I really liked the atmosphere you made. Wish the note combinations were a bit more melodic and music sounding though! The art is astounding as well!
Made it to a minute, would love it if I could chord the notes easier...seems like it wasn't working if it was intentional to do. I'd also love for the numbers to be swapped with the letters of the notes as an option so I could use my typing skills!
Great visuals, great vibe, loved it!
so good game art style and mood, wish to have more content to play, hope I can play a song not only random keys
Typing game + music game is a very cool combination. Loved it!
You keep amazing me every f*ing time. LOVE IT!
really cool 1bit style, interesting gameplay idea, I almost felt like I was playing something for a second haha
Eh, I wish the demons dying would actually result in a decent music
Still, quite a nice entry!
Really liked the visuals and the music, you gave away the style ahahahahah The core mechanics are good, the only thing I think it lacked was melody. It would have been cool if when killing demons I unconsciously played a melody (maybe that was the intention, I just didn't get it right?). Anyway thanks, I had a good time playing the game!
Interesting concept. Music was so great!
Good visuals and mood. Nice call on the repeating patterns for the numbers as it makes it less of a hit random numbers thing. Freestyle to restart was the highlight for me.
This game was really well executed techinically. The graphics were nice and the gameplay all worked perfectly. However, the "patterns" being random was really jarring to listen to and it would have been so much better if it just followed a song instead of being the same patterns repeated, both for fun and audio.
That was fun. Simple and fun. Reminds me of games i used to play on the Apple II as a kid. One suggestion for a small easy improvement would be some background ambience... like even the rain
Such a refreshing idea... sure, there are things that could be bit better, but really who cares... You nailed it! Awesome job, had really good time with your game
I really like the concept of this game. Mixing typing with "rythm" seems almost obvious. However, I think there is a missed opportunity in making the player actually play music, not just random notes. Still, very nice.
Thanks for the comments and feedback, will definitely think about everything written here.
@themoonrise it was a challenge to mix this game with rhythm tbh. Typing games encourage the fastest action possible and rhythm games well obviously constrain you to a rhythm otherwise they wouldn't be one. But I think this could be something I experiment with in a possible post jam update. There is the easy solution of making each demon appear rhythmically, but it should probably still be balanced with some randomness for the added typing challenge. This is something I would've definitely done if I had more time haha
BTW, the game has three different seeds for the sequences, and there's one that sounds a lot nicer than the other two.
@p-man I actually added a rain background ambience but removed it at the last moment because it was too distracting. So I totally agree. Would love to add an accompanying track in the future too!
@thimmythimble that was the goal, but unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to polish this, as I was coding until the very last moment. IMO there should definitely be more varieties of demons with different sequences
Very cool idea, original idea executed cleanly, thats what jams are all about! I'm really curious what you would add, if you had more time to make the game. So I'm gona follow you on itch and hopefully see an update after the jam!
Neat graphics, I liked the game overall. I expected some sort of melody to arise out of the music I was playing - maybe the patterns could fit a piece of standard music in their order/timing and "keeping rhythm" would control the sanity? Thanks!
I really really liked it! Please update it!
Cool idea, great execution, but I'm confused.....
@iroroi would love to know what confused you :)
Very neat concept and execution. I like how the melodies make sense. I had a lot of fun playing.
Definitely very cool idea! My controller didn't work but you having support for that is a big thumbs up. I think it would be fun if there was a backing track and the melodies corresponding to the demons fit to the backing track's key. Other than that, congrats for such a unique idea!
@aviv-levy no big deal, it's just that my hands and brain weren't ready for it)))
@dimi-kaye Ough... thanks for letting me know! I didn't have a lot of time to test this feature unfortunately. It's probably not relevant, but:
- If other software is using the midi keyboard it won't work. - It only works on desktop.
@iroroi lol I get it. I'm wondering, did you use the numpad or 1-0? The game is a lot more playable with the numpad! Anyway thanks for playing!
@aviv-levy was using the top 1-0s, so it was a bit awkward, but again - not terrible :)
I like this black and white vibe artstyle. Nice idea!
Great moody style! Would be fun to sneak some famous melodies in the number orders as easter eggs. 3464887 for the final demon boss for example.
@paul-maaswinkel π
This was such a cool idea! I love that you included midi controller support. The rain and CRT effects worked really well with the simple color palette.
I did find the game pretty difficult - I played it through 4 times but couldn't get to the end.
Great job!
Very much enjoyed playing. I was glad to be able to beat my inner demons. As a pianist I was waiting for the short motifs to connect or form something musical but I'm satisficed with what was given. The game feels polish and fair . Some sfx may have been nice and the art was lovely. Nice job.
@lamp-p Unfortunately, I coded until the very last moment and had little to no time left to experiment with and hone the musical aspect of the game, as well as make the SFX, but I totally agree and see this as a missed opportunity. It's a shame because this game is about music! If I make a post-jam update, I'll definitely improve on this.
Btw, the game randomly selects one of three seeds for the sequences and there's one that sounds a lot nicer and makes more sense. In retrospect I should've removed the other two haha
Thanks for your feedback!
Neat game and cool concept. Great graphics! Extremely cool to have midi-support implemented!
Super cool and innovative integration of the theme! As a pianist I love it when pianos appear in different games and especially when they are playable in some form. I will typically stop whatever it is I am doing and futz around with it for quite a lot of time to find what I can play, and I certainly did the same thing here. I think that means you did an excellent job, so well done!
I liked the idea of a rhythm game without the rhythm. I wasn't really sure what was causing me to lose sanity at some point - I was repeating the same sequence, removing demons quickly after they appeared.
@chybby sanity loss is exponential until it reaches the maximum loss per frame, so it gradually becomes more difficult. But at the same time, tougher demons restore more sanity! Making mistakes also causes sanity loss, but only if you land on a note that is not on the board (to make it a bit fairer).
Ok, makes sense. For some reason I found some runs more forgiving in terms of sanity than others. I did eventually manage to reach the end :)
I used a MIDI keyboard (M-Audio Keystation 61) and had some issues at times with hitting the notes, for example when "ced" ghost was on the screen together with "da", I had to do ced first and couldn't switch order :) But I'm so happy I could use my keys to play a game for LD! Great job with graphics and the general atmosphere!
@outstar thanks π I'm not sure I understand. When "ced" ghost appears, if you do "c", then change your mind and do "d,a", the "ced" sequence that started is cancelled but the "da" is successful. I just tested it to make sure...
atmosphere, vibe, arts and everything are very polished and fine, love it! could play it infinite if it has more content, like levels, bosses maybe
@aviv-levy I tried to do "d, a" when "c, e, d" are on screen and nothing registered on them unless I played c, e, d first, on downloaded Windows build. Weird!
@outstar Ough, that's a new one then! Thanks for letting me know. Did that happen once, or was it like that throughout?
I love games where audio is the main mechanic. His game is very good and very polished. I even played "The Celebrate Chop Waltz" and it seems the ghosts liked it as they kept appearing. :)

Congratulations!
A very polished game with a very innovative concept. The 1-bit art style is very suitable for the game and the vibe is very nice. Just hope my fingers are more flexible or I've learned playing piano when I was young.
I like i~i~it! You are genius! It's a little idea and it's really very elegant! But, some big demons, which appears with a many little is hard - because I don't know whom I should bite first of all.
@iolis-lui Thank you! Glad you like it :D This leads me to think I should probably add (in a post jam update) an indicator of sanity being restored and how much of it. Because larger, tougher demons restore more sanity, so it can be wise to let them sit for a while until you need them.
We should combine our games into one :D
@deniskazantsev I just played your game, love the art. It feels like an ominous piano track would work well with it haha
Wow! This is so great!
Everything works so well together! The pixel art looks great, the mechanic is cool. I wonder if this could be used to make something a bit more melodic? But anyway, itβs a really really fun entry!
And having to freestyle to restart the game is like the cherry on top of everything! Great job! :)
I beat it, interesting idea, but the gameplay loop doesn't quite stay fun for the whole time. 3 min might have been a better length. Good art, good sound, innovative idea. Well done.
I really appreciated how the game was 'packaged.' From the colors, graphics, and gameplay, it was an excellent game developed touching on a very important theme with a certainly weighty meaning. I managed to defeat my inner demons... but how many of us can do that in reality? Well done
I really liked it .. It is a great idea .. and it works pretty well with the graphism
Congrats .. It make we want more of it :D
Stylish art! It would probably be even cooler to play with a MIDI keyboard!
I liked it.
I'm not good at playing piano, my maximum :mute:
photo_2024-04-24_00-08-27.jpg
I try my best to play any music related entry I find, and this was the first time I got to dig out my midi keyboard to play a game! I love that concept. Loved the vibe and atmosphere too, though I'm no expert pianist, I've had my evenings spent cathartically playing notes as if letting out my own demons. I love that. I think any CC I have is probably already mentioned either by the comments or in your post mortem, but my big ones are that yes, it would have been great had it been more melodic (indeed since they were all in a scale, I'm sure there's a good way to have a backing harmony help make it sound like everything you play is in context. I think the fact it's free-metred and not a rhythm game is totally fine personally, my other issue is just difficutly. Took me a while to realise the difference between big A and little a, embarrassingly, but constantly having to peek up and down was a bit tricky, never managed it.
Still, solid entry, be proud. Well done! Would love to see more games like this.
Wow! Impressive and original interpretation of the theme! Really cool graphics and atmosphere within it! The only thing I would add is the looped sound of the rain in the back maybe. Well done!
So cool, but very difficult! It would be good to add some easier mode for "musicians" like me :) very nice job
Really great concept, If you want to expand on it further in a postjam update, I would love for it to lean into the music part even more, perhaps make it more of a rytm/music game or something so it's less random.
Great work and nice idea!
I really like that idea. Plus the monochromatic art is giving a madness vibe that serve your theme. The small text lines add a bit of "The layer of fear" vibe.
Once again I say nice work !
It's very stylish and minimalistic, everything blends together so nicely - art, shader, sounds, mood, even the scope of the game. I love the fact that some of the weaker demons get destroyed when you're trying to kill the big ones. All the times that I lost the game ended very abruptly, I think making your sanity bar flash or make the screen go red would help a lot with letting the player know they are about to lose. And yeah, it would be so cool if you could play an actual song or even upload a song to play!
Hey! That's really cute and cool game!
I'm a pianist and I really like it. The piano key sounds are pretty good. The graphics is also excellent! Also, I would highlight the difficulty curve. It's really good too! Maybe a bit easier than I'd like to, but anyway its' good!
So, it seems like complete polished small game! If you'll want to continue your idea, you can look at speedtyping games. for example you can use all letters for piano too, or make an organ of it. And do the same, but a bit harder and usful for peaople how learn speedtyping.
Thank you for your game! I really enjoyed it!
image_2024-04-25_16-59-10.png
Love the monochrome pixel palette, grew up loving typing games so this was up my alley. Really liked the freestyle to restart feature! It would be super cool if the demons came in an order that made you play a song haha, great submission!
piano.png
Very cool game! Like many others I did feel like it would be really cool if I ended up playing a song instead of random sequences, but this was a great tech demo and really nice art!
Beautifully minimal graphics and concept. If I was teaching game design I'd use this as a prime example of a well scoped idea and solid follow through.
It hit me so hard "why we only do typing games when we can be doing number games instead?!" when I saw that game that I felt ashamed! Lovely play, sound and mood. Even the freestyling to restart feels just right - the stressed out player lashing out anything back at the piano. Amazing entry
Loved the mood and elegant design. Wonderful entry!
Great entry! Furthest I got was to 5 digits which really became too much to handle haha. I think you fit the theme well with the art style and mood. It's fun to crush enemies with music.
Could be a winner! I loved it, and imagine they midi version is even better(but i don't own one). From the audio perspective, I could imagine a more frail and reverby note might add to the creepiness. Fantastic work.
Really nice concept and there is a great weird vibe to the game, the monochrome and low-res art really adds to that vibe, and the music of course! I wasn't particularly good, so I never actually beat my inner demons! Gonna try with the midi controller, later, All Round, Great Work!
Very cool, especially that the same demons repeat, so that we can get a feel of the melody and then just vibe with the demons! I played a few times and got different experiences, in particular the third time many demons digits ended the same way as some other demons started (killing 354 would kill half of 41), which was a bit weird considering that the first two times I played it didnβt happen at all like this, not sure if it is on purpose?
@fractal Hi! thanks for playing and for the feedback. I did make sure each seed has "intertwining" sequences, but they are not always at the same sequence as the other seed, and the 354-41 seed does this best. Will definitely improve the seeds in a post jam update if I make one π
