LD55 — Summoning

ManaFest by johnnysix 2024-04-16T01:42:31Z

Hey! It looks nice! Though I can't get past the level with the white cat platform. I can spawn the first one fine, but not the second one. Is there something I am doing wrong?

ManaFest by johnnysix 2024-04-16T02:14:54Z

Ooh I had to be high up in the air, got it, thanks :)

Necrunmancer by Adam Martin 2024-04-16T12:09:25Z

Great game which shines with it's completeness. It has a lot of content, decent number of mechanics, a great difficulty ramp-up!

My only feedback would be to make the art a little bit more consistent, for example, some entities have a white outline, whilst others have none. (also I believe the hellhound is floating)

Great work overall though!

Split-Decision by ColeSlaughter 2024-04-16T02:03:59Z

Very slick art and neat mechanic. Took me a few minutes to figure it out but was fun after that :)

Blood From a Tome by GuitarBro 2024-04-19T21:51:00Z

Damn bro I am so stupid, I swear I don't know how to play half of these jam games :sob: I spent like 5 minutes figuring out you had to click on the card, then click on the slot. Thought it would automatically go when you click on the card or drag and drop. Though playing the game a bit more, I think it could do with a few small hints in places (like showing you have to pass the token to continue).

Apart from that, this seems like a very ambitious game with the amount of gameplay there is - I am impressed! This is probably one of the most sophisticated pieces of work I've seen this jam. It also has a really really great mood: the writing, the music, creature designs, and overall art style are perfectly in symphony - great work guys!

Soul Dungeon by megalukes 2024-04-17T22:55:42Z

It's nice to a see a different but clean art style from the other submissions! Also really polished game with some nice effects and ideas. Also a decent amount of content and cool puzzles :)

My only feedback would be as the others also mention, the controls are a bit awkward (mainly the z to jump, and maybe a space to cast spells?)

Deathless Sentinel by Fahim Faysal 2024-04-16T12:49:51Z

Amazing and unique art style, hard to believe it was made in Unity, the fidelity looks Unreal :) Also a really original and interesting take on the summoning theme. First game that actually took me a good chunk of time to complete thanks to the good puzzle design and story. Also, love the look and feel of the chain.

My only feedback would be to make the intro a little bit more user-friendly. I thought the game was at a broken resolution or something because of the empty white box. Maybe showing the first dialogue phrase and a button hint to progress.

No one makes the Grand Warlock wait! by Danga 2024-05-02T22:33:41Z

Haha this game has my favourite backstory from the whole jam :D Very nice and clean shader work too!

Library Fighter II Turbo by JoeShanahan 2024-04-17T22:38:11Z

This is definitely the most hilarious game I've played. And actually has really fun and interesting gameplay!

Decades And Dragons by Ein 2024-04-16T21:16:07Z

This game actually made me cry a little - the story was all too real and it's especially sad to see that the bar gets smaller every time.

Everything here is fantastic - the art, writing, and polish are especially incredible (I love the little scattered items, it fits the vibe so well). I found myself more interested in the story rather than the gameplay as time went on, and just enjoyed reading the different activities the old friends get up to and how their life is panning out (oh the irony). There's also probably enough content here to already warrant a small paid game, I spent at least 30 mins trying to figure out all the sessions and not let my friends down!

I usually try to find some improvement suggestion at the end, but this game is literally perfect - there's nothing I would change about it :)

Hyper Hydra by Goofte 2024-04-17T22:27:22Z

Wow, this is a really good fully-fledged game, definitely in the top few of all of the games I've seen so far!

The pixel art is for sure the best I've seen. The menu is so satisfying. Loove the text, colours, and stylisation overall! The gameplay idea is fantastic as well - original and well kept to the summoning theme. The card drawing and adding to the deck fully completes the game's loop which is awesome to see so cleanly developed.

Some suggestions: - Balancing the damage cards a little bit at the start, I died on level one twice (maybe I am just stupid though) - Maybe it could be more fun to make the card placement based on the lane hitboxes (they can then move to their usual position). It took me some time to get used to the placement.

Tower Of Madness by Chiara Sanviti 2024-05-02T22:50:17Z

I love the upbeat music and the art style. The main mechanic is really fun too! It's not too hard (but I still died instantly the first time) but provides a good degree of challenge with the occasional hints and combo memorisation. The monsters have so much character too :)

Delightfully Devilish by CORRUPTOR2037 2024-05-02T22:11:19Z

Fun game with some really nice art and an interesting theme! The style of the AI generated images fits into your chosen art style too. The only thing was that I found clicking the cancel button a bit challenging sometimes.

Horrors from Beyond - The Bayou by GameDevTraum 2024-04-16T01:44:59Z

It's stuck at 95% loading for me too

Tremblewood by Hawkin 2024-05-02T22:40:43Z

Lovely well-rounded game! This was probably one of the most fun to play games, it felt very satisfying to destroy the whole town with your minions in the end :D The core loop and mechanic is really solid!

Danger Zone! by Romulo_Developer 2024-04-19T21:31:05Z

Fun little game with a good and interestingtake on the theme. I like the sound effects and music! The art style is also really nice and simple, awesome work for one developer! :D

Some feedback would be to balance out the player attacks / power-ups with more enemy variety. I think it would double the fun if there was a yellow monster that was twice as fast for example :)

Monster Food Truck by AutumnL1 2024-04-16T11:57:24Z

Probably the best game I've seen in the jam so far! The art is fantastic, concept of the monster food truck is terrific, I love how everything revolves around the summoning theme, and it's all executed very well (excuse the pun). Plus it's just awesome to see another great pixel art game :D

The only feedback I'd have is like the other comments mention, some kind of helpful tutorial / advice. I was stuck on how I even summon something for a good while (maybe I'm just stupid though).

PS: Who would have thought I'd see a duck in hell?

Final Chants by chybby 2024-05-02T23:00:59Z

Phenomenal mood. I was pretty horrified the whole time. The art style is super super nice, love the combo of pixel art dungeon crawler, but creepy and mysterious.

Maybe the only thing is that it felt a bit challenging at times.

Also +1 because Godot :D

Midnight Cheese Quest by Archaeognathus 2024-04-19T22:12:56Z

Woah, this is one of the coolest and most under-rated games I've seen! I absolutely love the vibe; to me it feels like a chill game that's not trying to do too much, yet what it does it does perfectly. The mechanics are super interesting where you have to both do physics based puzzle solving AND resource management. The puzzle are well though through (and somewhat challenging). Plus the little torch sprites are cute. This is a great game I had a lot of fun playing! :)

My only feedback would to add some satisfying sound effects for castling spells :)

Faust by HellHound 2024-05-02T22:20:23Z

I love the art and music in this game! You've even got some environmental story telling with the background pieces, nice! The concept is really neat, and the game feels very much complete. Probably one of the only games with a decent tutorial too!

Spring Summoner by twist 2024-04-16T01:51:09Z

Pretty nice; a complete, fun, and challenging game with a cool concept :)

Slaymore by Joshua Miller-Pio 2024-05-02T22:26:45Z

Very nice and stylised art style, I love the little sound effects! The jump especially made me jump, but then smile :) My only feedback would be maybe polishing the movement and hitboxes a little bit.

No Heroes Belong Here by Shasaur 2024-04-16T02:06:35Z

Thanks! I wish I had more time to polish that; wanted to add screen-shake and some cool shaders :)

No Heroes Belong Here by Shasaur 2024-04-16T11:39:47Z

@jeremydi Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed making the cards, I might do some more of those in my free time going forwards :)

@sybert Thank you for the feedback! Indeed, the teleportation is both due to that rule, and the following rule "The hero will return to a previously unexplored room if he cannot progress". If I didn't waste so much time, I wanted to actually animate the movement of the hero (and gnoll) walking from room to room to make that more obvious. And yes, you got all of those monster special abilities correct! :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@drgcandle Thanks for such positive feedback! :D

No Heroes Belong Here by Shasaur 2024-04-17T22:09:29Z

Thank you for all the great feedback guys, I appreciate it! :D

@ruslana @zippry @coleslaughter @dywanix @goofte Great suggestions! It motivated me to do a small update with a couple of quality of life things (mouse camera movement and little card descriptions). Of course, I've uploaded that as a separate link, so players can still rate the original.

@coleslaughter No ending yet, the mass of 8 billion humans stands ready to replace their fallen comrades and take revenge :D Though if I do a bigger version of the game, it would be really fun to add a story :)

Castle Romantik by matt.vnr 2024-04-16T02:11:33Z

Love the little rock hexes, didn't see those in Dorfromantik but they look really nice here. My score was 2790

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Burning Bells - Lilleborg 1259 by xand 2024-10-21T23:06:08Z

Awesome art style with a fitting sound design. Seemed incredibly polished - great work! The text in particular looked really good, despite it being something so minor. Story was really interesting, we loved the historical context. Maybe less enemies / waves and an extra player attack + dash could have made gameplay a lot more fun, or more variation with enemy attacks.

Nibblers by kuggenhoffen 2024-10-09T20:50:07Z

Really cool idea and fluid animations as well as blob designs. The simple art style fits quite well.

It was just a little difficult to explore the game, maybe making it a little easier would help a lot.

Squeezlings by Rongo Matane 2024-10-22T00:42:11Z

Very impressive and intimate atmosphere, almost feeling like an up-close view into these creature's world. Graphics, lighting, ambience, and especially the audio captured a cosy, almost tribal aesthetic. The chopstick mechanics felt satisfying and well integrated into the theme of the game. Well explained tutorials helped ease new players into the gameplay loop. Encountered some bugs and freezing here and there when interacting with objects with the chopstick that could only be rectified by closing and restarting.

Snake Rolls by Mars 2024-10-14T18:12:41Z

It's pretty fun, great controls, lots of room for skill and speedrunning via the physics. Would have been nice to have the hitboxes a little bit bigger.

Recommended playing: mute game and play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA8buAHyZ4Y

RomAnts by Douwe_Ravers 2024-10-14T17:59:29Z

Really fun concept and actually challenging gameplay! A nice mix of micromanagement and resource macromanagement. The blend of RTS with tower defense is really interesting. Some SFX and maybe an isometric camera would have been perfect additions.

You Can Save The Rat by poboy 2024-10-15T00:07:35Z

Did not expect this to be as deep as it was. We ended up hooked to try and get the true ending. Totally worth it. Music was nice and fitting. Cat sfx were great. The shock and spooky ambience in some scenes contrast with the idyllic atmosphere of the house. Didn't think a good ending was possible at first but after some thing outside the box we were able to figure it out.

Zanymen: Tiny Town by Brainloaf Studio 2024-10-22T21:51:44Z

This game is the best one I've played in the jam so far! :D Incredibly polished, cute well-designed style, as well as witty writing and characters. Slay.

FLY HARD by Erlioniel 2024-10-14T22:59:20Z

Remembered you guys from the previous jam and wanted to see what you were up to for this one! :)

Really interesting concept and idea, we loved the chat and the adverts popping in. Somehow, we managed to beat it first time with a score of 68417.

With so little time to react, it was hard to have a strategy other than spamming jump and swerving around, maybe a bigger distance between the camera and the player could help.

Moldable Monster of Mine by She Wrote 2024-10-22T21:26:04Z

I LOVE the art style of this game - the light desaturated colours combined with vibrant colours for interactable elements is super neat! Also the actual text + web design of the page is fire. Gameplay is smooth and polished. Maybe some simple lo-fi procedural background track would have been the perfect fit here.

Cat-tastrophe by rsheepdv 2024-10-09T20:56:49Z

Cute little game with cute stylised graphics. I like the little outline shader and the warm colours give it a lot of charm :)

Only feedback would be to allow clicking multiple times when zoomed in (or hold down click to shoot multiple cats) X)

Slimeow Game by Quan Ran 2024-10-14T18:28:50Z

Really loved the art and aesthetic. Charming animations and sound effects. The gameplay seemed really balanced too; we tried greed economy but got wrecked. Maybe a better explanation of what each upgrade did would have helped a bit, but otherwise, it's a perfect little fun package!

Vortex of Life by Chenlola108 2024-10-22T00:06:05Z

This seems like a super fascinating concept and I would have loved to play the game thoroughly, understand the social commentary, and reach the true ending. Unfortunately, it was really difficult to understand the gameplay. I feel like the problem is the possibilities are too vast, so making any one decision in the game makes it hard to grasp the outcome / pattern immediately. Of course, maybe this could be changed by playing the game a lot (as you mentioned), but it feels like to actually make the gameplay fun, there needs to be incremental learning and obvious patterns to grasp from (almost) each action / decision. It felt a bit like stumbling in the dark, not knowing what or why something happened. But great effort, and the art is really awesome too! I'll keep an eye on this one and I'm really looking forward to playing your future games :)

Terrarium by Sabottage 2024-10-22T21:02:26Z

Nice pixel art and relaxing music. The vibe is very cozy. As others have mentioned, fixing the ant colony button would have gone a long way I think. Some other cool ideas: shadows for trees, animations for ants, and layering (you could just render stuff based on Y position).

Totally Accurate Beetle Simulator by BOO______J 2024-10-22T21:11:23Z

Wanted to play this because the idea we had for our game stemmed from the same point! We wanted to make an auto-battler based on TABS (turned out more like Age of War in reality), so I was wondering how you approached it differently :) And well, you have a lot more content! Great work on that, I always struggle to get more than 2-4 units per jam game because of the programming required - but you got 11! The icons are super nice and stylised too. Maybe being able to get set a direction and a small splash of SFX would have made it even better. Great work overall! :)

LD57 — Depths

Hooking Back by Stending 2025-04-25T14:19:04Z

Nice and satisfying gameplay loop! The music and chill vibe worked really well for this game :) Also a small thing, but I love how the colour of the water is the same as the Itch.io page, made it much more immersive. Totally agree with Wallted about the story, that would have made the game perfect!

Diving for Oxygen by Neon 2025-04-25T10:08:00Z

Very impressive game considering you built everything on top of SDL. I remember the times many many years ago where I did the same as I was just starting to learn game programming, using C++ and SDL (LazyFoo ftw!).

I think you captured the main elements on the colony sim genre quite well! I personally like this ant farm aspect quite a lot - am building a game in this genre full-time after all :)

The biggest small thing that could have gone a long way is adding some small SFX in places: on collection of resources, on re-filling, etc.. :)

Antmine by someone 2025-04-24T06:19:19Z

Really fun gameloop! Similar gritty vibes I was going for - sort of dark colours with a lot of black and low lighting. The animations were perfect xD Maybe it would have been cool to add rarer minerals in the later levels. There were a couple of bugs like sometimes the miner didn't mine what I wanted and using the middle mouse button caused movement to get stuck in the browser.

Downfall by CodeChomper 2025-04-23T12:41:08Z

Awesome game for only having 10 hours! Was addicting to try and get to "THE END" :) It was like a little memory game trying to memorise all the locations of the traps and monsters. Adding a little background music track would have been even more awesome.

How the Moon Got Its Colors by Carraka 2025-04-23T20:54:16Z

Amazing art and fun gameplay. It had a very beautiful idea and story, reminds me a little bit of The Little Prince :)

Somnium by Roitchie 2025-04-09T07:08:56Z

Very atmospheric and beautiful game with a lot of different soundtracks. I really like the designs of the scenes and the puzzle were interesting and challenging :) Thought I didn't get to the ending in time and woke up, so I played it again and then fell out the map xD My favourite 'liminal space' was when walking outside on the road between the houses - for me, it perfectly captured the feeling of waking up just before sunrise, and heading to work in a new job for the first time.

Riches From Below by negdo 2025-04-23T21:17:45Z

Very nice low poly stylised art style, love it! Also a very fun and unique mechanic, nice to see something different from all the cave games :) Just a small think, and maybe I missed it, but would be nice to click to re-show the tutorial to remind myself :)

Loon lagoon by geometer 2025-04-23T06:40:34Z

The differently coloured corals were a nice touch! Also, this is the only game I've played that has an automatic save - nice! :D Though it also worked against me because I feel like I messed up the start and wanted to restart 😆

Potato Planet Driller by Corbak 2025-04-23T06:50:54Z

This is awesome! I love the idea of being on a spaceship together with my mates, cruising through planets and cooking jacket potatoes 🥔 Definitely captured the panicky and mad vibe of overcooked, with a twist :) The music is nice and catchy!

Where is Jeremy Wattson? by Dock Frankenstein 2025-04-22T20:27:20Z

Challeging puzzles and very nice and unique art :) Would have loved some music too

Roam the Depths by Ty Victorson 2025-04-22T20:13:07Z

Wow this is really fun! Very atmospheric! Really simple and really good, great gameplay loop! The sounds are perfect for increasing the tension. Maybe could have been more satisfying to collect rocks and kill creatures (a little SfX and maybe some screenshake).

THE BORING PROJECT by LeoFireMage 2025-04-22T20:59:06Z

Fun gameplay loop, wanted to keep digging to see what kind of ores were even further down :) Half-expected a boss when I got to the end 😆

Squirrel swirl by rucksack 2025-04-22T20:45:49Z

Very very fun gameplay loop. Took some time to understand how to play, but then played for a long time :) Squirrels were very cute!

Void Plunder by Malte Hedenstrom 2025-04-25T14:47:57Z

The art is very nice, it has some great stylisation, colours, and sort of world-building through it. The voice at the beginning is a great setting too. Maybe the getting of the chests could be more satisfying, I just got one and it latched onto the balloon, or did I break something?

treasure.png

Abyss Prison by EpicGameFan 2025-04-23T06:28:38Z

Very nice music, art, and well-written story. The puzzles were definitely challenging in a great. It took me like an hour to come back to the left-most door lock and realise that the symbols are in order. It was a nice IQ test, very much made me introspect on how I think and how I missed the hidden puzzle structural details, nice :) I think I almost got to the end, but got stuck on decoding the map - felt like I could see several paths but wasn't sure where to start (or maybe I was doing it wrong).

Cave Hunter by GeoBlackrU 2025-04-25T14:04:44Z

The game loop was actually really nice! The idea of having to make a decision of when exactly to stop searching the caves to return back was great :) I managed to defeat the boss in the end but I think by accident, he might have got stuck on top of the platform and I railed the shotgun into him xD Maybe making the foreground lighter could have made a bit easier to distinguish what is what, and a little arrow always showing where the base is would have been perfect to not get lost :)

Also not sure if you've seen this, but I totally LOVE this video on 'juicing up' shooting and these kinds of platforms, you might enjoy it too (if you haven't seen it already): https://youtu.be/AJdEqssNZ-U?si=0oYmV2yk6P7bn4qY&t=498

A Squire Acquires by HexyVexy 2025-04-24T06:03:52Z

I downloaded SameBoy to try this :) I love the writing, like "Piles of ill-gotten wealth adorn the beast" and it was overall a really fun simple gameloop with a lot of replayability. I learnt which were the weak creatures, then spammed avoid on all other battles, and eventually got to 10 quests xD Also a very nice simple palette and art style, fits really well! Maybe a separate song for entering the 'delve' to the above ground would have improved the vibe even further.

Cutter of Grass by JonasO 2025-04-25T09:30:25Z

Damn that is some *nice* grass. Never knew bug grass cutting can be so satisfying and chill.

Overall, very nice art and animations. Controls actually feel really good and solid, dialogue was funny! Could see this being a very satisfying game folks over at r/cozygames would like - a sort of game in the genre of powerwash simulator :)

cutter of grass.png

Miner Complications by shamotte 2025-04-25T09:46:01Z

It took me a while to realise this is a puzzle game and not terraria lol. Art is superb, you even have parallax background - very nice touch! The timeout on the rocks is a nice idea, it means you can easily retry some situations. A top-right puzzle like system (like in Braid) for collecting hard to get gems could have been a nice touch :)

Darkest Depths by Shasaur 2025-04-25T06:49:13Z

@tokto @monogatari @0x-void-x0 @jtap @xen3x @vangrail @alexis-brochec @supersayafynn @imnotvegan @nrankin13

Thanks to everyone for playing the game and your feedback, I'll take that on-board and maybe try to release this as a small mobile game at some point :) I'm very pleasantly surprised people liked the music since it was my first time making tracks!

I've also added the highscore by @imnotvegan at the top of the game page - great dive 🫡

LD58 — Collector

John Highland and a Special Golden Crown by VladImperator 2025-10-11T22:06:51Z

Couldn't run for me, crash on start :(

Quit Stalin by Eugenik 2025-10-23T20:04:20Z

Amazing concept for a game and the dialogue was surprisingly really good, especially given the time you had to write it all. The realistic and dark art was also very fitting. Some extra in-game text could have helped me understand the gameplay a bit better (eg what the numbers mean, whether scores carry over between sessions, etc.)

30 Days in the Fog by NBumgardner 2025-10-23T18:49:25Z

very beautiful water colour art, and the music is very soothing! gameplay is simple and understable. maybe I would have added some flair / sfx / music to the events to give them a lil punch :)

Catch a Critter by mackelio 2025-10-11T22:32:36Z

Got to Jellydrop! :D Favourite bug was sand in my mouth :)

Very well aligned with the theme!

Planet Extraction by Aviv Levy 2025-10-23T19:17:56Z

Good game, awesome graphics, satisfying sounds, easy to understand. Bigger drones would have been cool :) Screenshot 2025-10-23 211648.png

PEPATE by Ueighti 2025-10-23T19:29:22Z

Very cute art and despite being simple, it was a very fun concept and funny to play too :) Some lo-fi or silly music would have been awesome!
