Hi! Just wanted to let you know the current link leads to your "EDit Game" page (inaccessible to us) rather than your actual page :)

sirlich 2024-04-15 18:00

For passers by (and @kepsert) I think I found it with some digging: https://noskill-games.itch.io/do-the-thing

sirlich 2024-04-15 18:01

Bro why does your game want 999$ to download lmao. Probably better to set that to zero, or something very low for a jam game.

sirlich 2024-04-15 18:11

Nice entry! I got soft-locked quite early on, sadly.

I just couldn't figure out the stone placement. I got one by accident, buy could never replicate it. Didn't have enough mana to place more ground blocks to keep growing.

The end-game looked really cool (temples and towers and such), but I couldn't reach it.

furtive-pygmy 2024-04-15 20:57

@sirlich hey man, thanks for that. I have updated the link. The money was a joke, can just skip to go to download

@kepsert thanks, have updated the link

I wanted to get everything written up here before anyone played but was rushed for time.

RE: Mana, water blocks at the start give you some mana to play with, and then pyramids for mana. Sorry there wasn't more guidance earlier

olddog 2024-04-17 00:45

very cool game !!! love this one so much, wish for more detail of this game or other content to play

telo-philippe 2024-04-17 00:50

Interesting concept, and cool execution ! I liked the mood of the game, with the eery music, it's like you are a celestial being building a little world. It's pretty hard to figure out what does everything do, I'm sure tooltips on the different blocks would help. What I like about this game is that you can add a lot of things from this basic concept! More blocks, more constructions, animals roaming around (edit: I just noticed the little guys X) ), blocks on blocks, etc.. Keep up the good work!

furtive-pygmy 2024-04-17 00:57

@olddog Thanks for the feedback and playing the game! Would loved to have got more in, I feel like I might expand on the concept when I get some time. @telo-philippe Thanks for playing and the feedback! I agree, there was a lot that I wanted to get in there that just had to be cut QOL stuff would have been a great addition. Thanks again!

radjax 2024-04-17 00:57

Cool concept working your way up and combining different resources to get to the end game. Mana is a bit prohibitive and slow to gain. Didn't figure out how to get belief going, but great work!

ry-kil 2024-04-17 00:59

Hi there,

Cool lil game! I really enjoyed the minions running around on the map as I was expanding it. Cool idea for block placement and building outward.

Found a couple of bugs that soft-locked me, such as the expense of placing new blocks and not realizing what water blocks did. Also, it looked like I was occasionally generating belief but it was being added to the total amount needed to win? (started at 0/666 belief, ended at 0/686 after softlock, 20 mins or so). Overall was a fun time however!

mrwarranty 2024-04-17 00:59

Ayyy, I did the thing!

Very cool design and impressive that you got this put together in the short frame! The music is great and the visuals are really neat. Controls can be a bit disorienting (I figured them out with some experimentation but there wasn't a ton of guidance in-game) and the fact that you can totally screw yourself by not placing water early and therefore being short on mana is a bummer. But I love the design of the menus and that you were able to put so many systems in here. Well done!

partkyle 2024-04-17 01:00

I had a hard time progressing. Being able to remove something you placed would be really helpful.

pretty unique idea though. I think it was fun, but I would like to be able to progress a little faster. Trying again after getting locked on tiles took a little long, so after the 3rd time of that I didn't continue.

googlefrog 2024-04-17 01:05

Screenshot 2024-04-17 105818.png I like the feel of summoning blocks into the void and the 3D aspect really adds to the mood. I got locked early on my first attempt because I naturally went for ground rather than water. On my second one I have a bit of an economy, but my gold goes up very slowly, and everything I haven't build costs belief, but I generate no belief.

I don't even know if I could generate enough belief since my town is almost dead. At this point the blocks almost cost more than my maximum storage of them, and things I could build to expand my storage fail to pay for the block they would need to be built on. So the economy needs some work. It was also a bit opaque as to how my houses etc drain my food.

Making the terrain itself for a city builder is a neat idea though.

Notes from playing: - The description of what all the structures generate needs to be in game of course :D - Instead of first person controls, drag + rotate controls would probably be more suited for this type of game. - Some highlighting for resources required for building something vs what you already have of those resources. - I liked the the ominous music, the background of the cosmos, and the overall aesthetics of the game. - If this is not supposed to be an "idle game", a way to fast-forward time would be good. - Definitely needs more balancing, got soft-locked when I had no space left and not enough mana to build any new ground.

Overall I enjoyed my time with the game, I like the idea of a short game where you're racing against the clock to accomplish something.

courtneylapin 2024-04-17 01:44

I had similar problems to other players. Got "softlocked" 2 times (i was generating fear very slowly but i didnt want to wait for that game over). Couldn't figure out how to start generating belief. Usually I would try to soldier through and try to beat the game anyway, but the fact that it's an idle game and alt-tabbing stops the game from advancing, I'm gonna leave it there for now. I also feel like free cam is a little odd, but understandable for a jam.

Problems aside it's a neat concept, with a bit more time I'm sure it'd be a good time. Nice work!

velvetlobster 2024-04-17 13:33

I wish you had a "play it fullscreen" here, the interface is currently being cropped in the sides makes it a bit hard to work with.

but it works, camera feels smooth and the overall ominous vibe makes you wanna expand and get more lore.

furtive-pygmy 2024-04-28 01:04

@velvetlobster Thanks for playing, yeah my webgl template has that turned off by default. Have re-added a fullscreen option, thanks for the suggestion. @courtneylapin Thanks for playing and the feedback, yeah I wish I had more time to polish everything including the resources. @litterattus Thanks for the suggestions, I agree with all of them and thanks for playing. @googlefrog Thanks for playing, yeah the main consensus is that people got softlocked a lot ingame and no real descriptions for how to get resources. I wish I had more time to playtest the game and tweak the values, but that is the nature of LDJam unfortunately :( @partkyle Thanks for playing and the feedback, yeah I was aiming to get some way to remove blocks and make it a bit less punishing to progress. @mrwarranty Thanks for playing and the feedback, the playtesting and difficulty was something I wish I had more time to refine. I also wish I could have gotten more detailed instructions into the game. @ry-kil thanks for playing and the feedback, yeah time flew this jam and I had essentially no time to make the player experience more streamlined and adjust the values to a less punishing amount. @radjax thanks for playing, yeah I feel like it almost came together but ran out of time to create something truly unique and fun to play :(

exofrenon 2024-04-29 16:45

Wow, I played this for much longer than I intended to, so I guess this means I liked it  !

A simple implementation of a very addictive core gameplay loop. There are some balancing issues of course, but these can be overlooked since you had to make a game from scratch in only 3 days on your own and I can truly empathize with that.

I loved the music choice too, it created a very imposing tone, along with the vast emptiness of space around the stage. The graphics were nice too, especially the water block.

Overall, I would say it was quite polished as a software, a few bugs here and there, but fully functional from start to finish, which is admirable.

That said, I couldn't really understand how the belief system worked. I kept playing and building everything I could build, but I never had enough belief to build the Altar, which is the only thing that I could see would generate belief. Here is what my map looked like: Screenshot_7.png (also a small bug report: notice on the pointer how there is both a house a tower on the same block, i clicked on the block next to it to build it but quickly moved my mouse and it built it on the other block)

mitjmcc 2024-04-30 02:43

Neat game! Only things I noticed was 1. sometimes it felt like the raycast(?) to place the tile placement blue block was blocked by the buildings so I'd have to rotate the camera to place something 2. and like others have said, not knowing how to generate belief and the only structure that generates belief, the altar, needs 60 belief to build!

Like you said at the end of your game description, the basic structure is there, and it's a real solid base. Just needs some balance tweaks!

furtive-pygmy 2024-05-01 03:49

@exofrenon Thanks for the feedback and playing. Yeah, I think the belief was something I had in my head but didn't actually implement all that well (people generate it at a slow slow rate). Yeah, I noticed some weird placement bugs every now and then, but felt that it didn't really ruin the experience so just ignored them  @mitjmcc Thanks for playing and the feedback. 1. Yeah, I think that was something I wanted to look into but fell short on time (and subsequently forgot about until now). 2. Yep, I swear I had plans in my head on how it was going to work but just couldn't get it all in  Thanks again for playing!
