LD21 — Escape

Escape Imprisonment at the Satanic Mental Hospital by eli 2011-09-11T22:09:00

Fun! I was lucky and found my way out quickly, I guess I'd have struggled if I hadn't chosen the right path. I see you put a lot of work into the audio. :]

Mission: Earth Escape by Laksen 2011-08-22T21:44:00

Nice concept! You have to get insanely close to those planets to keep your money up.
The uppermost item on every menu is missing for some reason (maybe it's just me?), but the game was still perfectly playable. :]

Hello?? by Jhelle 2011-08-22T22:07:00

Fantastic, really original! One of my favourite entries. :D

A Crap Game by GreaseMonkey 2011-08-26T00:30:00

Really enjoyed this, you scored top marks for humour. :D
In the way of constructive criticism, I guess there might have been a better way to bring the game to a close.
This game certainly isn't crap though! Simple, fun and pretty original.

UpRunner by Flyboy 2011-08-23T22:01:00

Cool game! It's slightly buggy, but the rockets and lasers are pretty nice and I love the running animation. Makes me wish I'd added guns to my own entry.

End of file by FireSlash 2011-08-23T15:19:00

Wow, really enjoyed this! Especially liked the replicating bullet bosses. The ending was unexpected too.

Escape Artist by johnfn 2011-08-23T22:38:00

Woow, excellent! It started out pretty interesting, and just as it was starting to get boring you introduced new concepts which kept it fun the whole way through. :D
Loved the puzzles with the dead bodies!

Escape From Poorhood by tusongtupa 2011-08-22T22:29:00

Awesome! The gameplay itself could have been better, but the amazing graphics completely made up for it!

Aaah! Run! by norgas 2011-08-22T21:00:00

Nice! I like the switching mechanic, the graphics aren't too bad, and the music is simple but fitting.

Who let the robots out? by wallacoloo 2011-08-23T16:08:00

Wow, that's a neat and complex system you've made there! It's a shame there's not more to do, but you scored really high for innovation!

Something embarrassingly bad by madmaw 2011-08-26T00:49:00

Fantastic concept, I'd happily play a full game around this idea. :D

The Great Unescape by geckojsc 2011-08-23T23:09:00

Thanks for the feedback so far guys! I'm really not sure what's up with the music, I've played through several times and also tested with a Flash keyboard input app on an Android tablet, and I can't hear any audio hiccups. :S
Glad you're all enjoying it though, really encouraging!

The Great Unescape by geckojsc 2011-08-24T18:45:00

Okay, I put the game on a small web page now, and also created a standalone .exe version. I'm pretty sure the audio will work fine on the standalone download. :]

The Great Unescape by geckojsc 2011-08-24T22:06:00

@jhelle you're not trapped forever, you just have to wait a few seconds for the guard to come. ;]
Can't believe I missed out the left wall on the first level, I never thought about going left there, funny that people instantly went the wrong way on purpose.

.SHADOWS. by DPbrad 2011-08-22T21:58:00

Interesting! Level 8 is pretty tricky, but I really like the visuals. It would have been nice if the graphics were matched by some atmospheric background music.
Nice take on the theme. :)

Idol Run! by Vidd 2011-08-23T15:58:00

A simple concept, but very polished and challenging, and really nice music.

Escape The Void by NaturallyMade 2011-08-26T15:09:00

Wow, amazing! Really polished graphics, the music was pretty cool, although each song was a little short. I agree, the collision could have been a bit better, but everything else certainly makes up for it!

Extreme Beatboxing Bird Jailbreak by Cosine 2011-08-23T15:51:00

Nice, love music games! The final one was really tricky.

LD26 — Minimalism

Squares In Space by Mozzo 2013-05-06T15:45:00

Good effort, well done on finishing! Seemed quite short and unpolished, I'm sure you could take the idea a lot further given a little more time and practise. :)

My Dr Ian by maxking1234 2013-05-07T17:22:00

A nice effort, well done! However, it didn't seem very well tested, the collision was quite bad and some of the colours didn't blend well. I managed to skip the last level by dropping around the edge of the map.

Cube Colors by PabloAlexandre31 2013-05-03T20:16:00

Awesome, challenging, a great combination of puzzles, traps, exploration and plain manoeuvring skill! The music was pretty nice, the colour switching reminded me of the iOS game Chromixa.

The screen resolution was quite huge, I didn't even notice the counter and surrounding UI until after I finished the game, however the game was designed in such a way that it didn't matter. The only thing that really bugged me was the long distance between save points - when I died I seemed to respawn on the other side of the map.

Anyways, excellent job!

Tune Locks by Phased 2013-05-07T17:42:00

Very cool idea! It got a bit tiring after the first 10 levels or so, but I played the whole way through. When I started playing, I thought it would turn into a memory game where you have to remember whole sequences of notes, which could have been quite cool.

The background music was really quiet for me, I played though the whole game without even knowing it was there! (there's a lot of traffic outside my house, and the notes were at a suitable level). I gave it a listen afterwards and it was pretty nice. Well done!

Picture Frame by Herku 2013-05-04T22:35:00

Fun little puzzle game! Pretty clean design, the few sound effects were pleasant. I think it would make a cool mobile game!

Minimal Annihilation by Zener 2013-05-17T22:00:00

This is very well made! Simple, polished and with solid controls enemy AI. Maybe there could have been a way to stop the rate of income from growing so easily. I'd love to see the game extended further!

Nothing by mollymus 2013-05-08T20:04:00

Haha, this is so awesome! I thought the poetry, exaggerated movement, and exhausted panting over the movie-style soundtrack made the whole game really amusing. While the levels were very difficult, it didn't feel frustrating, because they were quite short and the game was overall quite charming.

Great job!

Buried by danielcmessias 2013-05-01T19:25:00

Awesome soundtrack, frantic and fun idea!

Was frustrating to get stuck in a gap, and the player hitbox made it very hard to jump around a falling block to get on top of it without taking damage. Also the game got slower after a few minutes of playing, I guess it could have done with some more optimisation. :)

Despite that, it's an enjoyable and quite polished game, makes me want to keep playing!

Is there a way to reset the game without closing/opening? There's times when I know I've lost, but I have to wait to be killed before I can try again.

Darkness by Liikeaturtle 2013-05-03T19:08:00

Nice idea! Congrats on finishing and releasing! I don't have much criticism aside from what has already been mentioned (annoying controls, bad collision, etc.) Maybe you could have kept the input simpler and just set the player velocity when a key is pressed, and reset it to 0 when a key is released?

I'm sure you're allowed to fix the music if you made it during the compo and it was supposed to be working, as long as you're not adding new features. If you fix it, just leave a note in a readme or the description or something, and re-upload the game. :)

Chaos! by dzebna 2013-05-04T20:27:00

That was amazing! Brilliant design, loved the choice of colour. The puzzles were well designed and were immensely satisfying to solve. I think it could only have been made better by a nice mellow soundtrack, but that would be quite a lot to ask for 3 days of work.

Favourite game so far!

Potato Dungeon by _Rilem 2013-05-06T19:38:00

This entry *has* to win the Jam, it's a masterpiece!

Simple Difficulties by Wet Heads 2013-05-05T19:24:00

Brilliant! Very fun, enjoyable and creative soundtrack. The graphics could maybe have been improved, but it didn't detract from the experience.

Echidna by Aerlynn 2013-05-04T21:01:00

Fantastic sound and atmosphere. I would have carried on and tried to hit every ball, but the movement speed put me off.

Would have been interesting to see where you'd have taken this game next, if you had more time.

Mingineer by sockfolder 2013-05-01T17:41:00

Neat, interesting concept, I like sandbox games and cellular automata.
It was fun trying to work out what each element was representing, maybe it would have been cool to see more interactions between blocks (e.g. water eliminating fire, fire engulfing the plants/organic blocks).

There was a little latency in the sound effects, but I got used to it. :)

grayscale square assassination Quest by Granor 2013-05-04T21:18:00

Simple, enjoyable, good storyline and a good amount of content. Eventually I fell into an endless void, I'm quite surprised that wasn't spotted during development. ;)

Milton by ZYXer 2013-05-06T12:12:00

Awesome concept, great design and execution! Was quite easy until I got to the final level and realised I only had one torch left. xD

You could take this game in so many exciting directions. Random maze generation, traps and monsters, treasure, cool music. I would totally play a post-compo version. :)

Barren Universe by Tom Gardiner 2013-05-05T23:44:00

Wow, really brilliant design, cool music and frantic gameplay. Felt pretty polished, I haven't seen many LD games with such well made menus and intros, pause menu, etc.

I managed to get stuck in the far left wall, but that wasn

Barren Universe by Tom Gardiner 2013-05-05T23:48:00

... but that wasn't a real problem, it didn't detract from the fun since I could just restart. (sorry, I accidentally submitted the form too early)

UFO Invaders Love Steak by ZombieRockParty 2013-05-10T23:22:00

Quite cool, well done on the procedural generation! I liked the chip sounds, it would be nice to see this go further.

Sky Tea by OysterKLAN 2013-05-06T22:43:00

Tea quality 98! Awesome, the whole game is really well designed and thought out. I love the variety of challenges you were able to make with just a few simple concepts. Very difficult, but didn't make me want to give up. ;)

Square Quest by duskpn 2013-05-10T23:36:00

Very cool world to explore! I liked the variety of enemies and environments, the sound effects, and the amount of detail you were able to convey with such simple graphics!

Tyro pretty much mentioned the only criticisms I could think of. Good job!

Sleepwalker LD by Yarek 2013-05-07T19:15:00

Those cheesy flash gradients ;)

Really though, nice work, the narration was cool and it all fit the theme well. Only problem was I felt the controls weren't quite responsive enough. I could spam the space bar and still not jump or climb in time, which was quite frustrating.

Unfalling Star by diegolh 2013-05-01T17:53:00

Really beautiful design work, but like others, I found the controls a little hard to work with (the only way to move horizontally in a straight line is to jitter up and down, which makes it very hard to stay alive).
Maybe some gentle acceleration/deceleration would have worked better.

Definitely 5/5 for graphics, and a pretty original idea, especially for a first game! Well done. :)

Be The Wind by dstozek 2013-05-06T15:33:00

Very pretty! Lovely mellow music. The seeds seemed to appear quite infrequently and randomly, maybe some mechanic that allowed the player to unlock new seeds through creativity or skill would have been interesting.
Excellent work!

Towers of Rage by robotality 2013-05-05T17:08:00

Wow, loved the whole design! Was really satisfying to play, though I didn't get the hang of the combo system, I won the whole thing just by mashing N/M. I kinda wish the guns had been more strategically placed (they felt quite useless in rooms where there were only 3 or 4 people).
I played the post-compo version too and I like the improvements you made. :D

Cube Run by crneumre 2013-05-01T18:20:00

I think the progression of upgrades was well chosen - each ability was useful in certain situations, keeping the game challenging instead of making it too easy.
I don't have any real criticisms except the slow pace, but that's just personal preference. :)

MiniCrawl by Elemnir 2013-05-04T22:14:00

Pretty difficult to stay alive! (well, it's a roguelike, so that makes sense xD)
It was interesting trying to figure out how to get around the enemies using the least amount of resources. I also like the focus on user generated content. Good job!

Square by Jonneh 2013-05-06T16:11:00

Very difficult! The graphics were clean (I liked the little particles, details around the score multiplier, etc.)

Cruxton by twelveplusplus 2013-05-08T20:13:00

Pretty cool game! Well done for making a 3D project. The music was nice too. I found that there's no cooldown after being hit by an enemy, so if you have 3 or 4 bullets firing towards you at once, you lose all your lives and the game ends.

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-04T20:31:00

Haha, it does get quite difficult quite fast, but bear in mind there's more than one way to grow that 2nd sunflower. Maybe you should check for secret passages further back. :)

Thanks for the feedback so far guys, it's nice to know people have enjoyed it!

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-04T20:49:00

SuperlevelSebastian: sorry you couldn't get it working, I don't have an XP environment to test it on. You don't have mingw/msys installed by any chance? If you did, you could maybe run it through gdb and see where the error occured.

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-04T21:52:00

There's more than one way out, check for secrets!

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-04T23:31:00

Yes! Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground were sources of inspiration for me when designing this - I'm a big Nifflas fan. :)

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-07T21:27:00

Thanks!

goerp:
ooc is a pretty young language compared to AS3 and Java, and has quite a small community behind it. In the last 2 years or so it's become quite usable for OpenGL or SDL-based game development, and it binds very nicely with existing C libraries, especially ones that are written in an object-oriented style already.

It's still rough around the edges, currently I find that its higher level features like closures and generics work very well in isolation, but may break if you try to mix them together (e.g. create a HashMap of Func objects). I'm happy to work around those issues though, I just love that I can use a clean/modern language and have the flexibility of C and C++ at the same time.

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-10T19:20:00

Yep, the ending is very minimal, partly because it suits the theme and atmosphere, but also because it was 3AM and I couldn't figure out why my 'end' text wouldn't appear on the screen. xD

Grasshopper by Puffi 2013-05-02T18:32:00

Nice little game. Fits in with the theme well, runs smoothly, and the graphics are decent (although the font seems to be scaled strangely) and the sound is nice too.
As was mentioned above, it got a bit repetitive - maybe it would have been cool to increase the difficulty and variety of challenges that appear as the player travels a further distance? Well done though! :)

Minimalism shooter by Gemberkoekje 2013-05-07T15:58:00

You got off to a promising start! Well done for writing a 3D game from scratch, that was an ambitious task for 48 hours. I wonder how the entry would have turned out if you'd built on a more high-level engine?

RogueOut by badlydrawnrod 2013-05-04T18:56:00

Haha, I never expected to see a genre crossover like this! Very cool idea, well executed, and a variety of events to keep the game interesting. Given more time, I think the music could have been improved (the 2 second loop got a little annoying), but that wasn't much of a problem. Great work!

Zmore by mrspeaker 2013-04-29T19:13:00

Really nice concept! I especially liked it when I noticed the unseen force, erasing away all my efforts to uncover the level. A shame it couldn't have been a bit longer or the concept explored more, but it's neat!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Visit by jsspiegel 2014-12-27T18:39:00

Creepy and touching at the same time. I think my reaction was 'aw, thats nice' and then some realisation 'wait, why am I a floating head?'

Seems like it deserves some cleaner, better graphics (though on the other hand, the crude pixels and clashing colours could be an intentional part of the aesthetic, this is what I hate about analysing art. xD)

Bad Television by bitslap 2014-12-15T16:56:00

Great to see such awesome chip and pixel artists working together! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Got stuck in the wall at the end though, because I was standing at the edge of the level when the room changed :)

Mash for Three by Threef 2014-12-08T06:33:00

first try: 1940 points
Very clean and aesthetically pleasing (only the tutorial finger looks slightly weird, maybe a cursor or something would have been better, but that's just my opinion). The sounds are satisfying and there's a fair amount of depth and strategy.

The difficulty curve is fantastic - once you get lots of mines on the screen it kind of changes the nature of the puzzle, because you have to start thinking about which mines you need to break first to free up that one trapped mine in the corner. It's here that being able to memorise the colours really helps (I'm not very good at it!)

I wonder if playing this game will improve my short term memory? ;)

Super Hide And Seek by ArthurMaker 2014-12-15T02:02:00

Nice idea! I noticed a few problems with the bullets - they are the same colour as the background so I can hardly see them, and they spawn from the centre of the gun (instead of the tip of the gun or the centre of the player), which makes it hard to aim and causes me to miss shots. I think the overall accuracy of the gun needs some work.

Maybe you could have made the gun rotate to point in the direction of the mouse? This would make aiming much easier.

REPROPULSOR by blackcode 2014-12-15T16:00:00

Pretty neat game with a nice variety of mechanics (the fields that push up/down felt particularly well-tuned as you could fly through them without losing control or falling). I like the neon pixel style. Nice to see a home-made engine too :)

I found the corners of the bouncy tiles to be a little unresponsive at times, which would cause me to fall when I was expecting to jump.

Toy workshop by StMatn 2014-12-09T18:17:00

A fairly nice base for a strategy game here. Unfortunately once you've got a few projects in place, it seems to just boil down to watching numbers get bigger and smaller (but the game is still fun if you leave it running in the background while doing something else)

On the user interface side, there seems to be a lack of consistency in the way dragging works. Sometimes it's click, move, and click again. Others I have to click, hold and drag.

This wouldn't really be a problem but sometimes the game freezes when you try to release a planned (20%) project in the wrong spot (and that happened a few times because I didn't realise I was supposed to drag).

Also there's a lot of extra screen space! I guess you were planning to put more stuff to the right, but ran out of time? Anyways, good work! What you have so far is pretty promising, and the progression is nice. :)

Mobile gamer simulator by skyr 2014-12-09T20:28:00

Best take on the theme I've seen so far! My one criticism is that even with the silly finger simulation controls, the games all seem a bit too easy, with no real difficulty curve.

Slime Ball by naali 2014-12-11T02:39:00

Nice idea! Fun, simple and difficult. I only have a couple of issues:

- I can't restart with the space bar? It just causes the ball to advance by one frame.

- Sometimes the ball shoots downwards when it hits the wall, even if it was traveling up at the time. Consequently, when the ball moves left you get an easier start than when the ball moves right (you can wait for a while without pressing the space bar for one, but not for the other)

Christmas Crusades by Tridecimal 2014-12-09T21:16:00

Loving the strategy in this one. It almost plays like a puzzle game, reminds me of peg solitaire for some reason :)

I found that if I cycle to the last elf in the list and then move him three times, it ends my turn even if I hadn't finished moving the other elves, which can kind of unexpectedly ruin your plan.

It would have been cool to have the strengths/weaknesses highlighted for the current selected character. The most time-consuming thing in the game is looking at the key at the top trying to figure out which class is good against which.

Also, good job with the piano music, it's pretty cool :D

HexaPong by fancypants 2014-12-09T17:10:00

Pretty cool entry, interesting idea/mechanic, and decent graphics/design.

I found the controls a little too responsive, making it hard to achieve any precision with my movements, which combined with the fast speed of the ball made it very difficult. Maybe some slight acceleration on the hexagon would have been good? Or maybe I just have terrible reflexes ;)

Music is nice, but very short and very quiet.

Snowball Tunning by dusho 2014-12-09T19:52:00

Cool stuff. I seem to have bad timing, because every time I change colour, the enemies happen to change to the opposite colour. xD

The mechanic is nice, I had a bit of trouble with the hitboxes and friction on the walls - made it easy to get stuck unintentionally, but I guess that also improved the challenge in a way.

Smash N Bash by 5k0d 2014-12-09T18:36:00

Cool ideas! I especially like how you can get rallies by hitting the same ball over and over (is there a reward for doing this? if not, there totally should be!), and I like how collecting coins with the cursor forces you to change your aim, so you can't sit there shooting at the same sweet-spot over and over. The bonus UFOs are a nice touch too :)

Is it just me or does the shop seem a little bit broken? I had noticeable bonuses for the first shot but they went away afterwards, and also I could keep investing points even after I had zero coins.

BREAK by someoneman 2014-12-11T02:24:00

I was hoping someone would make a game like this! Very nicely done, the controls and movement give lots of precision so that the game is not too frustrating. The map / progression is very nicely designed. It's a little weird not having realistic gravity, but it works well considering that jump height is important.

Kind of reminds me of VVVVVV :)

Ember by geckojsc 2014-12-09T19:13:00

Haha yes I was expecting this. I'd wanted to have lots of items and interactions so that people wouldn't get stuck, and everybody could discover different things and have their own experience. I spent too long on the engine and atmosphere, so I ran out of time to add all those things. So for now the game is more of a guessing game where you try to figure out how I intended each item to be used.

There's even some secret music in the game! It's sad to think that not many people will find it, but I guess that's the beauty in secrets :)

Ember by geckojsc 2014-12-09T19:16:00

OneMuppet: you put the thing on the thing and then combined it with the other thing? ;)

Thanks for playing though guys! I'm glad I succeeded with the sounds and graphics at least.

Ember by geckojsc 2014-12-09T19:43:00

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Frazzle Dazzle by hexdie 2015-04-24T18:04:00

Fun game! Nice colours and sprites, good music, cool multi-purpose weapon, funny take on the theme, I enjoyed it overall :)

As others have said, the controls seemed a little unresponsive at times, sometimes locking and forcing me to travel in a direction, other times making me miss a jump.

Brick Breaking Space Invading Actiony Game Awesome by Raxsus 2015-04-24T22:11:00

Very cool idea! You perfectly captured the arcade aesthetic, but as with the original breakout it feels like pot luck as to if/when you'll hit something.

Interestingly the addition of bullets means there's some situations where it's impossible to hit the ball without being shot.

It would be great to see this expanded further, with a proper soundtrack and pulsing visuals (something like Space Invaders Infinity Gene could really work here)

Playground Mayhem by explosiveninja 2015-04-20T15:02:00

Cool idea combining worms mechanics with a crafting system! I liked the whole scenario, it's a good interpretation of the theme. :)

The whole game feels pretty rough around the edges. Movement is quite difficult, players can struggle to walk even on a simple slope. The game crashed when I tried to use a tomato.

The interface is a little messy too, some simple labels / instructions for each weapon would be nice (e.g. I tried to use cola+mints and ended up damaging myself)

Space Enforcer by Suhvan4ik 2015-04-21T19:33:00

Fun game! The mechanics, graphics, music and sfx are all good. I like how the beam has a dual purpose. :)

I found the ship's movement to be a bit too sluggish which I think made the game way more difficult than it would otherwise be.

Detune by geckojsc 2015-04-21T21:32:00

Thanks!

Yeah, it only checks for correct presses, not mistakes. I decided to keep that in because the game was already quite difficult, and I didn't want to spend time potentially breaking the system that was already working. :)

Behind the Fence by fasterthanlime 2015-04-21T17:39:00

This is really clever, really well written! It's been a long time since I read any poetry so it took me a while to get into it.

I imagine the game would be a lot more accessible with some artwork scrolling in the background to match the mood and illustrate what's happening at each point.

You perfectly captured the atmosphere of war-time research and development, where everybody works on their small part in isolation and nobody gets to see the big picture besides a few important, high-ranking people.

The game asks some tough questions. I'd like to think I'd be able to 'do the right thing' in such a situation, but it's impossible to know for sure.

Escape From Twump Tower by 01010111 2015-08-26T19:20:00

Amazing gameplay, feel, mechanics, soundtrack, setting, humour, and everything!

The only issue (quite a significant one) is that the controls seem to get stuck all the time. At one point I found myself completely unable to move and had to mash keys for 20 seconds to free myself.

There were also a few physics bugs (people floating in the sky) but that's to be expected given the really flexible block sliding mechanics :)

Takodemon by Split82 2015-08-25T16:26:00

Beautiful! Amazing atmosphere, music, gameplay, everything. I enjoyed the puzzling controls.

The last level was quite a challenge, I ended up going too fast and falling out of the world! (no issue though thanks to the reset button, the game also has a great interface)

Mr. Goldberg by Esenti 2015-09-14T22:59:00

Pretty well made text based game! Instructions are clear, art is clean and meaningful, controls are intuitive.

Some interesting things I noticed:
- Playing with a smaller window size makes the game more challenging! Shops and offices are to be avoided at all cost.
- Boundary between buildings seems a bit iffy (sometimes it *looks* like there's space but I'm unable to place, but this might just be my font)
- Despite pollution constantly increasing, the population doesn't always move out? Is this related to my money?
- I would expect the game to always be winnable if you're willing to wait long enough, but maybe that's not the case because of the point above?

Next step I suppose would be to add key events such as gangs, rival corporation, news feed or whatever), plus more interesting character AI?

It would be hilarious if the events were things to make the public more happy, like a kitten shop, fairground etc.

Overall a nice entry! Has that candy box / cookie clicker vibe where you can just tab out and come back later to make more progress :)

Adam by elemel 2015-08-26T15:58:00

Not bad! I agree it's not really fair to criticise the game at this point, but it would be nice to see it expanded and finished :)

Adula by conormn 2015-08-25T16:40:00

Amazing style, solid concept! I agree that it needs to be longer and maybe the Jam would have been a better choice :)

Blenderman by NeanderG 2015-08-26T00:08:00

Very nice models, great music, vivid colours and great overall aesthetic.

The clicking/controls seemed a bit off, took me several tries to actually push the lever or the button. Aside from that the game didn't really seem to have much of an aim other than spawning objects and blending them, but it was cool anyways :)

Shark Swimulator by Karai17 2015-08-25T15:09:00

Nice take on the theme! Different languages gives the game a boost in replayability, the PHP CEO locale completely made my day x)

Museum City Boat by geckojsc 2015-08-25T20:48:00

Thanks! The audio was all recorded/synthesised/processed myself (I was literally in the kitchen at 1AM going 'rawr' and knocking glasses together).

My only regret is not being able or finding the time to make a 'glass smash' sound :)

LD 33 The monster and your city by 2011petia 2015-08-25T23:26:00

Nice work! I like the idea but it feels like the game needs some more polishing, for example:

- cooldown on the helicopter bombs (a single helicopter can kill you really quick if you run back and forward underneath it)
- better colour palette (e.g. green on grey is really hard to read)
- clean graphics (currently they are blurry, have compression artifacts, or have white borders around them)

That said, there are some nice touches, like the shaking camera movement, the parallax, and the puffs of smoke when you destroy a building.

Jerkawocky by mrdude1228 2015-08-26T17:37:00

Awesome entry! I love the range of moves and statuses, it feels like the battle system has just the right amount of depth :)

I also think the endgame is really cool, where it's up to you to decide between retiring vs. battling more foes knowing that you risk losing half your gold.

Monster Doodle Battle! by superjai 2015-08-26T20:27:00

Awesome entry! I liked the aesthetic, and the concept of a charades-style fighting game is really cool.

I found it quite difficult to control the characters due to the key layout (using both sets of fingers and a thumb at the same time was awkward), and it felt like the combat needed a little adjustment (sometimes it's possible to beat him just by standing in the corner and mashing G/H)

That said, the bot has very accurate and believable AI and was usually quite a challenge to beat :)

Utterly not by uthamon 2015-08-26T00:41:00

My goodness, this game is brutal! The ending was fantastic, made me laugh out loud. x)

The part with the 3 moving blocks was a nightmare even after I figured out what to do. Also I managed to completely miss the breakable wall so got stuck for quite a while backtracking aimlessly.

The deaths were very harsh on the eyes/ears, but fitting for the hardcore nature of the game :)

As for HC mode.... *turns and flees*

Lifes Decisions by squarepug 2015-08-26T14:50:00

A solid entry! Personally I couldn't relate much to the story or characters, but I still found the game quite thought provoking, and you managed to achieve a nice atmosphere :)

In some cases it felt like I needed more information to make a good decision (for example, I could donate money at the start but I have no idea what else I might need that money for later, because the game didn't tell me enough about my character)

Btw, I noticed it's possible to farm coins by dying on the first stage over and over, or by jumping over the exit warp.

QM Snake by Thepattybeast 2016-01-02T02:50:00

Haha, I'm quite amazed that this control scheme works, I never thought about it before!

The variety of levels and extra touches e.g. scoreboard make this a solid entry. :)

Thrust by Lo-X 2016-01-04T23:40:00

Simple concept but a really well polished entry! I found the neon graphics to be quite pleasant, maybe a bit too much glow in some places but if that's what you intended with the design then I can't complain :)

The online leaderboards certainly add an extra dimension of competitiveness to the game. Nice work!

ZZXXX the Gremlin by Thingo Studios 2016-01-05T00:42:00

One of the best games I've ever played in a Ludum Dare! The music and graphics are excellent, the scenario and dialogue had me in stitches, and the way you intertwined story and mechanics is genius. I loved it!

Parse The Sky by dustyroom 2015-12-17T12:58:00

Absolutely amazing! Stunning visuals and incredible music, I'm going to check out Polygrim's album right now :)

Didn't have too many issues with the controls, but then I've had some practise before with games like Air Brawl.

Anyways, you guys did a great job, really great experience.

Trees - 60 lines of code - 60 minutes time... by Tosic 2016-01-01T21:55:00

Interesting concept, but quite poorly balanced as 1 tree can be harvested forever, and it's impossible to keep two trees alive and harvest them at the same time. (so 2+ trees = game over) unless I'm misunderstanding something?

Nice effort anyways :)

A-W-E-S-O-M-E by Cosmic5 2016-01-01T22:21:00

Yep, I found the bonk ;)

Nice level design, beautiful low-poly trees, enjoyed the parkour and button puzzles. You could definitely expand on those with more variety of buttons/puzzles and more challenging platforming.

Fairy Rush by dimesto 2015-12-16T03:58:00

Unfortunately I can't run this, it seems like you're missing a data folder.

I get this:

Error
Data folder not found
There should be 'fairyRush_Data'
folder next to the executable

I & the sun by n0m1s 2015-12-16T05:50:00

Nice concept and pleasant music! I had fun jumping around and setting things on fire.

That said, there's a handful of issues I want to mention. Please don't take this too harsh, I appreciate that you made a custom engine and as a result it took a lot more effort compared to a tool like game maker or unity :)

Installers are annoying (for a game jam at least), most users don't want a link in their start menu, a simple .zip file would do just fine. Furthermore, the installed application doesn't actually launch the game, it just gives you a welcome message. You have to navigate to the installation folder to actually play it.

Very slow controls (how about some acceleration when you hold a button for a long time?)

Misleading graphics - I thought I was stuck in the first room, because the door and wall look identical.

Burnt objects seem to persist between the two floors, which is strange. There was nothing to do on the second floor. Maybe you were planning to add more content here but ran out of time?

Game crashes when closed, instead of exiting gracefully.

Still, solid effort all around, congrats on the entry!

AsteroidRush by MountainRanger 2015-12-17T02:22:00

Nice work! You took a simple concept and executed it well! I was surprised when I lasted for such a long time yet the music was still fresh and interesting!

Fixing the score bug is technically not adding polish or new features to the game, so you should definitely fix it if you have time :)
