LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

MARBULL by rik 2010-08-23T17:00:00

OK, I seem unable to die here... here we go.

This is a Flash game!

Seems to run alright on this desktop (firefox 3 under wine) although maybe a BIT sluggish... meh.

Graphics are amazing.

Music is quite fitting. Would be nice to have a sound effect here and there but y'know.

Crustacean Cannon by Hellfang 2010-08-22T20:39:00

vacuum cannons for the win, it's a good, simple concept, although from what i played, i think that's about as far as it goes, although what the hell crabs don't walk on the roof... yeah i think that's innovation

you interpreted the theme the same way i did: pick up and throw - good job

the fact that you can't restart from the same level takes a dip in your fun rating, as it would get incredibly tedious playing the same level over and over again

graphics are quite ms-paint-like but quite good, although that title screen gets you that fifth star

audio is there and it works, that's all that needs to be said

didn't really spot humour in this, so N/A

overall i'd recommend this to anyone provided that it were on a different platform

although there were essentially no alphas / betas you did more screenshots than me, i'd have to say this is about par - i like how you explain how the game works

HAckBotz by recursor 2010-08-22T22:02:00

man, hacking a bot this way is actually quite fun

although you lose a star in the fun department due to the fact that you can't restart from the same level once you run out of lives (and you don't have many)... perhaps some continues would help

this is a very good application of the theme

graphics are pretty good, not sure how many stars i should give them

audio is pretty good, i like the voices though it's a LITTLE irritating, could do with some more ambience

humour is there and it works, yay, first game i've rated which has this

overall, i would recommend you learn a real platform with respect to this type of game, i find the concept behind flixel an abomination as it's really not flash... but this is a brilliant game if you ignore its one or two flaws

the community feedback is essentially non-existant following your journal. considering that you got this done with 30 minutes to spare, i find this understandable.

Zombie Fisticuff Quarrel by deps 2010-08-24T22:15:00

this game makes me want to get gosu and code my next LD48 entry in sweet sweet ruby... although i think i'll have to settle for C

alright let's get into this

yes, fighting games are an invention but it's nice to pick them up and throw them at others... especially considering that they're all the same person

it gets a little repetitive but i didn't actually get bored whilist playing it, as i thought it wasn't going to get much harder i died... point for improvement would be multiple fighting moves, but seeing as you can throw barrels of explosive stuff i think i'll have to give you that 5th star

i can see where you're coming from wrt the theme, it's standard but it works

graphics are really quite gnarly and quite complete

audio... it has music, and the sounds are quite fitting, and i love the method you've used

this game is dripping with humour

overall... guess

not many screenshots but plenty of game-related updates and a food diary so i would classify this as a very good community effort

Attack of the Jartos by Vieko Franetovic 2010-08-24T02:57:00

the music in this is the best out of all the entries of this compo and nothing comes close

...only joking, i'm not the right sort of person to comment on it

i like the "defection" interpretation of the theme, it's kinda like the "hacking" interpretation of recursor's compo entry

it seems a shame that the enemies up the top tend to somehow destroy themselves, otherwise this game could actually be *quite* good

the concept appears to be quite flexible and with a few more enemy types (possibly including conversionproof enemies) or maybe a recharge meter, this could actually prove to be a really fun way to kill time

Attack of the Jartos by Vieko Franetovic 2010-08-24T03:04:00

in case you're wondering about the music, vieko just popped up on IRC with a bit over 3 hours 'till the deadline wanting some 8-bit style music so i managed to somehow produce something in roughly 40 minutes

the 8-bit console is, of course, the sega master system, and i managed to produce what i think is a valid .vgm file as well (although it's in flash so i had to make an .mp3 file, as you can't really do your own mixing in flash, i know about that xm player and it's absolutely awful on linux)

if you want the .vgm file i spewed out, here it is: http://pubacc.wilcox-tech.com/~greaser/mods/weedeater.vgm

and here's the .mp3 file: http://pubacc.wilcox-tech.com/~greaser/audios/weedeater.mp3

Attack of the Jartos by Vieko Franetovic 2010-08-24T16:46:00

actually, just tried this game on linux with its native flash player, it runs at a reasonable rate, scrub what i said about it being slow

The South and the North suck yorkshire puddings! I'm from the Midlands me! by cptalbertwesker 2010-08-22T22:46:00

This is a perfect example of why Game Maker sucks SO HORRIBLY under Wine.

The South and the North suck yorkshire puddings! I'm from the Midlands me! by cptalbertwesker 2010-08-23T15:10:00

Actually, scrub what I said, it runs a lot better in Wine 1.2-rc3 compared to 1.1.32.

This is the game in 1.1.32: http://i34.tinypic.com/b4vnfd.jpg

Is this complete? I tried doing a sentence, it announces it fine, but nothing seems to happen.

This End Up by JamesGecko 2010-08-22T19:46:00

Uh, where's the source?

Fromulus by brandoncash 2010-08-22T22:13:00

ok, keybindings are arse and what's with this flixel/flashpunk fad it's really flippin' wrong, if you're going to make a pixelly game use something else, flash is for ads which use vector art and suck the utter crap out of your bandwidth

also the keys are backwards GRR

i like how you have multiple spells, that is *quite* a nice touch

it would be much more fun if it were faster

i didn't really see the theme being played clearly in this, but apparently it exists, i'm reading your journal so i'll just have to take your word for it

graphics are fantastic

audio is nonexistant so N/A

humour is nonexistant so N/A

overall, quite promising, but as it stands it's kinda drab with respect to gameplay, next time don't spend so much damn time on the graphics

community effort is pretty lacking, which is usually quite understandable due to not having enough effort left, but a couple of screenshots and jotting down notes is something i would consider reasonable.

Ennameez by Martoon 2010-08-22T22:39:00

innovation... yep, there's something i haven't seen before... done quite well actually

fun-wise, it's pretty run-of-the-mill, but it works somehow

theme is a very interesting interpretation, and i'm giving you 5 stars for uniqueness

audio is there and it works

humour is there and while it's an amusing concept you totally cocked up the fact that the fish is a christian symbol as well as the cross, plus i find the reference not that amusing

overall, i recommend looking into this game for general interest

community effort... quite extensive, you've gone so far as to show what food you ate so i think you basically went all the way (other than a time lapse) so 5 stars for you

Squibble Attack by Jamin 2010-08-22T20:54:00

builds fine on linux, also untitled is a really weird binary name, but i'm quite happy to see another C programmer

the AI in this is quite nice, and this game seems quite AI centric, dunno about giving a 5th star but this really could do with 4

it's kinda blandish with respect to fun... if only the player moved faster, then it would have at least 3 stars

theme isn't done incredibly well but at least you can pick up and throw which is how i interpreted it

ah yes, graphics. fairly minimalistic but i love the way they bounce and i love that pop so much that i'm going to give you a fourth star, if only i could give you 4.5

no audio so N/A

doesn't look like you've attempted humour so also N/A

overall the game is interesting but slow, i'll give you 3 stars anyway

community bean-spilling is quite extensive, i'm not sure if you did a time lapse or a livestream but you have done a very good job without it, so here's 4 stars for that

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-22T19:34:00

TARBOMB

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-22T19:39:00

It's INCREDIBLY slow on both firefox and opera.

Basketball girl by JDruid 2010-08-24T20:40:00

ok, i know you're in #mod_shrine and i know that you managed to beat coda so i'm going to give this one a crack

first thing i have to say is split your code into logic and graphics, that way your game can run at a good speed on pretty much any platform, you're working with python so it's not incredibly fast

ok, now playing at what i think is full rate, took a while but i eventually fixed up all but a few things

righty, let's get this show on the road

i am definitely aware that there's more that can be done with respect to innovation, such as switches & stuff, but having said that it's an interesting and unexpected concept, so here, have 5 stars

quite fun, pity it's a bit slow even at full speed BUT simply speeding it up might not be a good idea as it's still quite tricky

fairly nonstandard standard implementation of the theme and that's a good thing

graphics looks like an ms paint job BUT they're used quite well and quite frankly i really don't care too much about graphics

music sucks

...just kidding, it's brilliant, just needs a bit more sound to give it that extra oomph

humour can be felt throughout the game so have a few stars

overall, recommended for people who don't have such weak necks

journal not found so 1 star for community

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-08-23T01:02:00

Only non-compo framework is Swing, really. I made an (albeit not quite complete) emulation of two parts of the Sega Master System, the VDP (video) and the PSG (sound). Yes, I even implemented the I/O ports for each.

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-08-23T18:52:00

It shouldn't run "too fast" on your system, it's supposed to run at 50 frames per second and there's something to scale it - however, if it goes faster than that, then please let me know.

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-08-26T14:33:00

Currently the site is a little buggered at the moment, so unless you happen to have an SSH account with them and are able to rip directly from my home directory, you'll probably want this mirror, generously donated by Grieve.

Head Trauma by GreaseMonkey 2010-09-15T06:04:00

HybridMind: I used SchismTracker to write the tunes, and then converted them to .vgm using it2vgm.py (which was originally made for this competition tbqh but I think I have a version on my web space - a version should be available in the non-memoryimagesource jar file, as well as smspack.it, although the periodic noise is an octave too high).

If you have the normal .jar file you can take a peek at the source .it files, they're quite big uncompressed to work around a limitation in the .it format wrt "Amiga" slides.

And yes, I write other tunes, there's a stash of them in /~greaser/mods/ although I can't guarantee that I've moved all the other stuff out to the "others" dir or something. .it files are best played in SchismTracker, .xm files best played in XMPlay or MilkyTracker (if I have any in there), .mod files should also work in XMPlay or MilkyTracker, .s3m files should be fine in Schism although I have an s3m player coded in Python, .rad files are done in Reality ADlib Tracker (in DOSBox) and can be played with adplug, .a2m files are done in Adlib Tracker 2 (using FreeDOS) and will probably require that you emulate ADT2 in DOSBox or something like that (adplug only plays the older formats). .vgm files can be played with the in_vgm plugin for WinAMP, also Audio Overload does the format too, although if you're using a unixy system with OSS then /~greaser/stuff/vgmplay.py.txt could do, or maybe audacious (which i THINK uses VERY similar code to in_vgm).

Hopefully I didn't make a too large wall of text.

Birds of Prey by Ricket 2010-08-22T21:32:00

I don't think you intended to make me load org.inh.JavaError.

Birds of Prey by Ricket 2010-08-22T21:36:00

Also, how big is this wrt filesize?

DIE ALIEN DIE by Mr. Scruffs 2010-08-22T23:04:00

ok i'm horrendously stuck on the boss where you have to bash out the eyes so i'm going to stop now

this is what i believe is the second non flixel/flashpunk flash game i've encountered. this is how you make a flash game, and any use of those two libraries should be banned and those intending on using them should retrain because this is how you do flash and those are not.

apparently the music wasn't done within the time period but i'm going to vote as if it was in the hope that this gets points dropped if it wasn't

yes, there is such thing as boss rush but nobody really pulls it off, this does it quite well

far out this game is fun and for like the first flippin' time you don't have to restart from the start every time you die

the interpretation of the theme isn't exotic but it works and it works well

nothing needs to be said on the graphics

audio... the music is quite fitting and there are sound effects

didn't pick up on any humour so N/A

overall, play this game if you've got flash (if you haven't then go pay adobe lots of money because lots of users isn't enough for them to port flash, just look at solaris vs freebsd), and this is the only flash game i've come across which is this flippin' appropriate for flash

community... well, i couldn't see your journal, it would be nice if you posted at least SOMETHING but y'know

Smores Attack by devinmoore 2010-08-22T23:49:00

ok this REALLY doesn't play well, it takes FAR TOO LONG to initialise, what the hell are you using which is making it so slow dammit... good job for shoving it all into one file though

i'm really not feeling your innovation here, it seems so conceptually limited

because this game takes so damn long to initialise, i really can't play it for long and you die so flippin' early and stuff, ugh

this plays the theme quite straight so 3 stars for that

graphics are OK, but it's not very smooth

audio is hardly there

humour appears nonexistant so N/A

sorry, but overall this game sucks

however, having said that, you've done a decent job with your journal and you have a time lapse video so 5 stars in that department

Smores Attack by devinmoore 2010-08-23T05:30:00

Sorry about the harshness of the "overall" comment. I'm just incredibly confused as to what you're actually doing in the init phase. I think it's got something to do with the downloading of those .wav files.

May I suggest having a loading screen, and only downloading what you need once?

Rotate by Jonneh 2010-08-24T21:20:00

OK, there's two games here called "Rotate" and this one I'm more likely to be able to play...

I'm not judging this (yet) but I have to say this:

Congratulations for making a javascript game which runs at a good framerate.

HelgasWorldDomination by glethien 2010-08-25T16:16:00

This could be quite a cool game to whip out.

Unfortunately, no matter how I click, I always send out all my units.

HelgasWorldDomination by glethien 2010-08-25T16:17:00

Nevertheless, quite fun.

HelgasWorldDomination by glethien 2010-08-25T16:18:00

Oh wait, never mind.

Clinging to Life by Myx 2010-08-22T19:43:00

Uh, where's the source?

Robot Maze of Doom by MetroDriver 2010-08-22T21:37:00

Where's the entry?

Prot by eugeneius 2010-08-22T23:23:00

i like how you have the flying things, that gives it quite a bit of variety

yes, this is actually quite a fun game

graphics are quite nice, with a bit more shading it'd get a 5th star

the music is awful, so 1 star for audio, lrn2drums

humour doesn't appear to be here so N/A

overall, i highly recommend that you STOP USING THESE STUPID "PIXELLATED FLASH" LIBRARIES and make your next game in something else because this is actually a pretty cool game

journal appears nonexistant

Flinger by Switchbreak 2010-08-22T21:20:00

ok, 74500 points (100 after dying), forgot what wave i was on but nevertheless

5 stars for innovation with respect to how the ship is formed and the way that you fling everything in

if this had powerups then you'd get 5 stars for fun, seeing as it doesn't, you don't, also it's kinda tricky to play strategically but simple enough to play without thinking much

good job with the theme, you did an interesting take on it (i did the ol' faithful pick-up-and-throw)

graphics are 5 stars, they work so flippin' well

now, audio... there's too much silence and not enough variance, but what's there works... that click is irritating though, but i'm not going to mark you down for it

haven't spotted any attempts at humour so N/A for that

overall... if you're familiar with Allegro and can code in C then you should hurry up and port it because this is the exact type of game that'd be just so appropriate done with Allegro

community effort is kinda bad (i just check journals as i can't really stay in touch) though i like how you posted a sketch so this gets you more than 1 star, i wonder how much effort you put into this as if you weren't working your butt off then i don't think it's really that excusable, otherwise i'm fine

Tactics Lasso! by Kayamon 2010-08-22T23:25:00

Error compiling shader

Fib by Sophie Houlden 2010-08-22T19:28:00

Runs well. Good job :D

Metagun by Notch 2010-08-23T01:26:00

I like how you can run it as a standalone (I built from source).

Metagun by Notch 2010-08-23T15:19:00

OK, in before dock telling everyone that apparently i'm a troll (the word is critic, dammit), and no this isn't my complete commentary thing so, uh:

Here's what I struggle with: The glass shooter parts are a pain in the butt, and the final boss appears to make its difficulty from making you lag enough that it doesn't realise you've pressed the X key. Got that out of the way.

I like the concept of shooting enemies out of your gun, and the recoil you get from the machine-gun-gun is quite nifty, although the gameplay appears to shift once you do that.

I also like the interaction with the hats, and that you can be countably awesome by wearing more than one at the same time.

LOL TNT

From what I gather, this was an experiment which was done quite extensively, although some of it is a bit weird.

Also, L's comment (I haven't voted on this yet).

Doors and some other stuff by Hempuli 2010-08-24T22:55:00

Got it. This is a brilliant puzzle.

Mines and Bobbleheads by rale 2010-08-23T01:05:00

ok this worked twice and then broke (i used wine because the C++ wouldn't build - that's why you don't use microsoft vizzel C++), but what i played was quite cool so here we go

oh wait it's working now

this is pretty nifty, i think it's been done before but not with big inflated bubbleheads so it's pretty good for innovation

the smallest bobblehead size is a pain in the arse to sling a mine into - if you'd dropped that, i wouldn't have wasted so much time on level 4 (i gave up) and would have awarded you another star

theme is existant and it works

graphics are fantastic, it looks like a flash game but it's even better because it isn't

audio works really well, especially those ambientish sounds you get when you win or lose, also kickdrums are fun

not sure if there's humour so i'll say N/A

overall this is a good game if you feel like wasting time

no journal so 1 star for community

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-22T19:32:00

This was more like "Enemies throwing weapons".

Killer Knife-Robots from Knife Planet K by Jerm 2010-08-22T23:32:00

right, i played this thing before judging started, i couldn't compile the damn thing so i decided to use the windows binary in wine

i like the concept of the knives being picked up and throwing and this has a lot of potential especially if you add more powerups

it's too damn slow so kinda lacking in the fun department, it would place higher if it were faster

you actually have enemies throwing weapons at you so you've actually failed to follow the theme properly, sadly

graphics are existant and they work

audio is existant and it works

humour really only goes as far as the title, but it's not bad, i reserve the fabled one-star position for stuff which is truly cringe-worthy

overall worth looking at the knives being picked up and thrown but really needs to be faster

alphas/betas and screenshots are great to have, not a heck of a lot of timeline so it gets 3 stars instead of 4 in the community section

Psychic Prison Break by superflat 2010-08-22T23:15:00

ugh, i'm really not a fan of "lots of text" games, and not only that, this really doesn't execute it well, so double whammy for innovation and fun

graphics are excellent but UGH I'M SICK OF FLIXEL/FLASHPUNK WHY OH WHY DON'T PEOPLE JUST LEARN A REAL LANGUAGE (this coming from the guy who made a first person shooter in megazeux)

there's a hint of the theme but it really doesn't seem to come through, plus from what i've played they're not actually weapons, sorry

audio is there and it works

not sure if this really has humour, maybe it's a bit dry, so N/A (1 star is for really awful humour)

overall, this game isn't dreadful, but it's not really that great either

you posted a few screenshots so i can give you that for community, at least you have posts (other than just "i'm starting" and "yay i've finished")

LD19 — Discovery

Robots Among Us by Arne 2010-12-20T03:11:00

I get an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION running this under Wine.

I might try compiling a recent version of Wine as this build is not only old but it's also an Ubuntu edition.

Orbs of Sound by Sakar 2010-12-20T04:28:00

I'm having issues playing this under Wine, will probably try again once I've finished building 1.3.something.

Rememberance... by AClockWorkLemon 2010-12-20T05:06:00

A side note: I suggest you release some beta tests closer to the "finished" product - the spelling wasn't so great and it was quite boring.

Take just about any game, strip away just about everything, and you're left with this. The lock-and-key with 50 keys and a lock that opens at the end of the game.

Which really isn't fun. I fell 4 thoughts short of completing this game before giving up.

I'm going to give you more than one star for theme because it's not just about exploration. You fulfilled the theme in the sense that you're discovering who/what you are, but that's about it.

Graphics are there and they work.

Audio is there and it works.

Couldn't find any humour, so N/A.

In short: you flopped. Better luck next time.

Community-wise, you provided a time-lapse AND a beta. It seems you speedcoded in the last hours or something. The most unfortunate thing was that the beta was more fun to play than the "finished" product.

Rememberance... by AClockWorkLemon 2010-12-22T07:33:00

@ACWO: Probably the fact that you could see a lot of dots at a time and that it didn't feel so... huge. It may also have something to do with the fact that I'm a bit of a sucker for platformers (well, you DO have to work out how to jump from one place to another).

Stripes by littlehacksaw 2010-12-20T07:07:00

OK, this really wasn't that great.

Innovation. This comes close to being a subset of just about every game ever. Doesn't seem to have a win condition. Fortunately there is a variety of items and you can die.

It's not very fun. Fortunately the world isn't very big either.

The theme is Discovery. You basically did Exploration. You find stuff, but... ugh, sorry, I just can't rate this well at all.

Graphics are a little sloppy, but the variation helps to balance it out.

Audio is there and it works. Good job for playing for so long.

Didn't notice any humour, so N/A.

Overall... this game is quite empty.

Communitywise, you have an extensive blog with a bunch of food snaps as well as screenshots. A beta or two would have been good, though.

Disco? Very! by Tom 7 2010-12-20T06:13:00

Oh yay, I get to review this one...

Metroidvania but you get to dance. I approve :)

It's creatively lock-and-key but I actually enjoyed it, just got a bit confusing at the end.

BLATANT THEME VIOLATION... I approve ;D AND you managed to somehow follow the theme, too. Good job!

Graphics are pretty neat, actually.

Audio... music doesn't quite gel with the game theme. The music itself is alright, though.

Doesn't seem to be riddled with humour, but it's there.

Overall, we have a somewhat short game.

You have ONE blog post, apparently. So not so crash hot with respect to community involvement. This does not say anything about respect, though.

Disco? Very! by Tom 7 2010-12-20T06:14:00

Whoops, that last line may have had a negative sentiment wrt respect. It should not. I just advise that you post more often, possibly with some screenies + betas.

1492 by wlovas 2010-12-23T04:46:00

Affecting your ratings by OS / architecture isn't a good idea. If I penalised each game which wouldn't run on here, very few would get a good score.

Having said that, stuff that doesn't run properly is very very annoying. I blew 8MB on Spacebrick only to discover that Unutty stuff doesn't work with wine-1.3.9 (whereas Game Maker for some weird reason works a lot better... the tables have turned o_O).

By the way, there is a Very Good Reason™ why the source code is posted, and that's for hopes of cross-platformness.

Oh yeah. This isn't OSX-only from what I gather. Note that one of the files are "makefile.linux". Also, "makefile.mingw" which is WINDOWS. So ramon, FIX YOUR DAMN SCORE.

1492 by wlovas 2010-12-23T04:47:00

Same goes for you, refrag. Also, Macs suck*.

*only joking, but iPads/iPhones/iPods suck by political design.

Disco?Very! by Martoon 2010-12-20T06:44:00

Kinda like Simon but it plays a lot differently, so you've done well in the innovation section.

Seems to be a bit slow at some points so I've taken one off for fun, but other than that... wow.

BLATANT THEME VIOLATION and I'm not really sure if you've done it as what was SUPPOSED to be expected but here's 5 stars.

Graphics could possibly do with some effects or... no, screw that, there's no point.

I LOVE THE MUSIC

The whole game is a joke driven to its logical extreme. No point inserting jokes into it (unless they're silly disco moves).

Overall, this is a very unique game, and quite well polished. If there were a level editor for this, it'd basically iron out every kink that you could iron out.

Communitywise, not much in the blog post department but you had a beta and you kept it up to date from what I gather.

Fate of Mankind by LegacyCrono 2010-12-22T07:23:00

OH YES OH YES OH YES THIS GAME IS AWESOME

Innovation... I don't need to say anything about this... well actually I do because some people may have older versions of Wine and be unable to play it (Game Maker @[email protected]). You start without being able to see and then you discover how to see and stuff like that.

Fun... This game has just inspired me to make more puzzle-platformers. I really, really liked this game.

Theme. You've hit this one on the nail.

Graphics are there and they work... and they work quite well. There's still room for improvement, but they're pretty good for what they are.

I liked the music, though it could possibly be a bit fuller. I have not penalised you for the fact that it doesn't loop properly under Wine, because that is a bug in Wine and not your game.

Humour is there, and it's fairly light-hearted. It made me smile.

But yeah, THIS GAME IS AWESOME GO PLAY IT (and if you can't, I'd be very keen to port this to or extend the idea on not-windows)

Community... Screenshots, beta tests, and even a timelapse. 5 stars.

This Is Digger by txa-ea 2010-12-20T05:33:00

WOW CRAP 27MB WHAT THE HELL - *seriously*, compress your sound files!!!

It's as easy as: for A in *.wav; do oggenc $A; done

Alternatively, you could use a tracker which handles mod/s3m/xm/it files, just make sure you can deal with the player's quirks.

On second thoughts, please just don't add music, or just use AutoTracker-C (which produces .it files, which Löve should be able to handle) for the time being. You still need to improve on some aspects of your compositional skills, most notably "sticking instruments together".

Seriously, if you're using Musagi, watch that dissonance meter. It should NOT go above 1, and I advice that you make sure it doesn't even go above 0.

Also, instructions.png is missing.

1024x768 probably isn't a good resolution when your game is THIS pixellated. I'd

NOW ONTO ACTUAL JUDGING.

For innovation... Dig stuff, discover stuff, dodge stuff. It's all been done before. Fortunately I haven't played any games which bring them together in this way.

It's not very fun. But at least you have to dodge stuff.

The theme was played quite straight. I think.

Graphics were a bit iffy although I see you thrashed them around, which is quite fun.

Audio... once again, I released AutoTracker-C for a reason.

Humour... meh. Didn't make me laugh, didn't even make me smile, but didn't make me cringe either. Wasn't bad, just wasn't effective. Don't give up on trying to make it funny, though.

Overall... it's a bit sloppy, and not particularly fun, but I have to say you actually haven't flopped it.

Couldn't find your journal so N/A for community.

Cauldron of Doom! by Artix 2010-12-20T04:19:00

A bit of advice before what I've said: get someone to beta test - the spelling's a bit sloppy. That I haven't marked down for.

Innovation... it's been done before but not very often.

It's heaps of fun... until you get stuck and then try permutations without any success trying to work out how to make a damn "Army of the Dead". Once again, get people to beta test. Usually at least one person is watching IRC so you can usually get a tester (the blog isn't that well watched).

Niiiiiice job with the graphics. Even had some really nice touches with the animation and stuff.

I approve of this guitaring. And this toileting. Good job with the audio.

Monkey scientist :D

Overall a very good effort with pretty much just one really irritating bottleneck.

Apparently you've done some live update thingy which is good for community effort; however, a beta test or two would have been a very good idea - I suggest you make project dumps and release them while you're going through.

Tile Walker by angusi 2010-12-20T06:02:00

Oops, I found a bug. And got stuck. And then I won the next level.

Personally I would have done the whole thing in Javascript, as it's a bit slow... but I think you've got a solution for the "cross-platform" issue once and for all.

This is a classic lock-and-key maze game, but it's done in a mix of Javascript and PHP. The nice thing about the classic lock-and-key maze is that you can push it very, very far.

I definitely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I don't see myself playing this repeatedly. It also brings back memories of invisomazes in ZZT.

Graphics are there and they work. Nice stone, by the way.

Audio is nonexistant, so N/A.

I don't think there was an attempt at humour, so N/A.

Overall, nice game, even if it's a bit buggy.

Communitywise, you kept us updated even if we weren't watching. A beta or something like that would have given you a fair bit more in this field.

Prelude of the Chambered by Notch 2011-08-22T22:44:00

Innovation... kudos for doing lock 'n' key.

Fun... I didn't get lost! Yay! I'm not here to play Super Bat Puncher though (it's a real game and it's better than it sounds)... thanks for reverting to the version which didn't spawn a crapton of bats. Having said that, the lock 'n' key aspect DID drive me to continue playing, though.

Theme... you pretty much nailed it.

Graphics... how do you do floor/ceiling mapping? This is one thing I suck at when doing this sort of engine. Having said that, apart from lacking y-shearing, you've really thrashed the hell out of the classic 2d grid caster. The actual assets look quite nice, too.

Audio... plenty of noises. Could do with more atmosphere tbqh.

Humour... well, pretty meh. Not bad, but not much.

Overall... 4 stars.

Community... doing a stream is pretty damn good. It would be nice if you were listening to suggestions on e.g. Twitter, though.

Duke Ludum Forever by Apogee 2011-08-22T22:18:00

No.

Nice graphics, though.

TREASURES by pythong 2011-08-22T22:15:00

This is the part where I go through every category.

Innovation... well, you have a somewhat clever boss fight, which automatically gets you an extra star from the base 2 stars of doing a platformer. It would be nice if you could use the treasure to kill enemies but oh well.

Fun... it helps that this game is short. The (somewhat thin but likable) plot keeps this game intact.

Theme... par for the course.

Graphics... nice job. Stuff's animated, and I'm not trying to rip my eyes out.

Audio... I must say, it definitely works, and the music's actually alright. The noise in level 2 could gradually get louder (it tends to drown stuff out), but other than that, just about everything makes noise. It could be good having the ghosts booing / bats flapping, but those sounds are a bit risky (they could sound quite annoying).

Humour... not much but there's a humourous ring in the plot. It's not bad, too.

Overall, there are a few rough edges (protip: try not to make the player start at level 1), but there's a game, it's got a nice thin plot, and it actually looks and sounds good.

Community... well, you've given us quite a few details of your progress. That's good. I suggest giving out alphas/betas if possible, they can help.

LD22 — Alone

Cave Wanderer by GreaseMonkey 2011-12-19T08:39:00

Ah yes, that point about XNA.

The thing I hate about it so much is that it does not run on anything that isn't Windows or Xbox at all (read: I can't just grab Wine or Mono and run it in there).

This is why I tell people who are tempted to use it, to use OpenTK or Tao instead.

Holdout by K4Orta 2011-12-19T06:27:00

Best Friend by TestSubject06 2011-12-19T05:08:00

Ok, this is the first game I get to rank. Goody!

There's not much here that I haven't seen before, but this reminds me that I should resort to the "multiple endings" thing some time.

I quite like how the theme wasn't played completely straight, as that could potentially result in something *quite* boring.

Speaking of boring, those corridors could be a bit shorter.

The graphics look quite good and I've gone and given you 5 stars even though there's a few sloppy things you've done (that dirt sure stands out as a bunch of individual tiles, doesn't it? something to note for next time).

Audiowise, that second piece of music was a bit short to be quite honest. But the music sounded fairly good and you definitely made sound happen when it should have.

Humourwise, I was quite amused at the dog ending :D

On the other hand, you did capture the mood fairly well in terms of endings.

Communitywise, I would suggest more screenshots + beta posts, but yeah.

Descension by bigbadwofl 2011-12-19T06:59:00

Unfortunately, because of your choice to use MSVC++ and your neglect to ensure it would compile on something that isn't MSVC++, your game is not cross-platform at the moment.

This means I will have to try this in Wine. (Just quickly tested it, it seems to work.)

In future, PLEASE get mingw32 or something, and every now and then test-compile your code with that. It should help with making your game more portable, considering that g++ is spewing errors about abs() not being "declared in this scope".

I am thankful that you used OpenGL rather than DirectX though, but I hate C++ and don't want to be dealing with errors.

Descension by bigbadwofl 2011-12-19T07:28:00

And now I get to rate this. Goody!

Admittedly this game did get kinda old after about 3 levels. It wasn't particularly fun, and it wasn't particularly innovative.

As for the rest of it...

The voxel graphics were very effective. I'm not sure if I want to give you 4 or 5 stars; I've decided on 5.

Audiowise, the music was quite fitting. A few more sound effects would have been good (I kinda forgot that you had bullet sounds, but hit sounds would have helped).

I didn't pick up on humour, so N/A for that.

In terms of theme and mood, I think you did well. The general mood was that of hopelessness, and was amplified by those grumpy old gits you shoved in there, for lack of a better term.

Overall, not particularly fun to play, but still somewhat interesting.

Communitywise, I could see a lot of screenshots. A few betas would have been nice, though - source + binary dumps are the way to go.

My advice: spend more time on enhancing the gameplay. You seem to have no trouble with creating thematics, though.

Minotaurus by lesterpig 2011-12-19T06:21:00

Righty-ho, let's go through each category.

Starting with fun. Unfortunately, due to the general clunkiness of movement, this game was very boring. I would suggest you spend a bit more time working with whatever.style.left and whatever.style.top.

Moving onto innovation. I do like seeing multiplayer games crop up, and I even saw a dead body. Unfortunately there was a lack of innovation involving actually moving around, not even bothering with the keyboard. Aside from that the UI was fairly good.

I felt alone in this game in the context of people who aren't trying to kill me.

Graphically speeaking, it was polished cheap stuff. However, I didn't want to scream at the graphics, so that was good. (I reserve the 1 star category for stuff that makes me want to fork my eyes out)

I didn't hear any audio, so N/A for that.

I don't recall there being any humour, so N/A too.

Moodwise... this game was hard to get into at all. But if I were into that, it would be pretty much par for the course.

Overall, this was a very boring game, and, in my eyes, was a flop. However, I encourage you to explore HTML5 as there's a LOT you can do, and you don't have to worry *too* much about cross-platform issues.

Furever Alone by Waynetron 2011-12-19T08:33:00

60 friends, woo!

Funwise... I actually enjoyed this. A lot. It's not a complicated game but damn.

Themewise, you pertained to not one but two themes, which is excellent.

As for audio, those meows are music to my ears.

I think I'll stop my usual approach here. The graphics and humour worked quite well. Moodwise it wasn't particularly hardcore but that's where the humourous tone comes in. Overall I give this 5 stars primarily because it's excellently silly and sillilly excellent.

Communitywise... I suggest you post more often. Post screenshots, and post betas where appropriate.

My advice: keep doing this sort of stuff. You could think of extras to do, like for instance you could have more levels where you have more tools and stuff could be more points or could lose you points. But there's really not much to say, to be quite honest.

LD24 — Evolution

On the Origin the Species the Game by richy486 2012-09-16T22:24:00

Out of all the platforms you could pick to screw your chances up of anyone actually being able to PLAY your game, this'd have to take the cake.

Someone managed to make an Atari 2600 game. As it turns out, there are quite a few emulators for that, so just about anyone can actually play it despite not having the real hardware.

Android might be a better bet. At least they have an emulator for not-Mac.

All I can do is ponder how great this game would be if it were possible for me to play it. Because quite frankly, it's not.

Kitten Evolution by triplefox 2012-09-16T22:06:00

LOL SHAREWARE MESSAGE

Anyhow...

Seeing as virtually nobody can be bothered rating this because they're all a bunch of pussies (no pun intented) who don't know how to use DOSBox, I have to rate this.

Innovationwise... it's not a stock standard genre so this gets something.

Fun... I played it to the end.

Theme... yes, you evolve!

Graphics... I suggest learning how to make doors. Or just use Kevedit's object library for that. With that said, this was 100% yellow-border free and wasn't too grating on the eyes so you get more than 1 star.

Audio gets a 1 star for being all the default ZZT sounds. Seriously, these are horrible. (Personally if I did an LD in ZZT I'd probably get this too.)

Humourous. Not amazingly, but it was alright.

Mood was pretty flat.

Overall, not completely crap.

Species by mappum 2012-08-29T09:28:00

OK, first time I can be bothered rating something this LD. I don't know why, but there we go.

I'm going to rank this highly for graphics, primarily because you actually bothered to put lighting in. More games need that sort of lighting :/

Another place this ranks highly is mood. It's bad enough without sound D: D: D:

Which brings me to sound. I eventually turned it on... Basically, it works. It'd be nice to have a bit more variety, though.

I wouldn't exactly call this game "fun"; I'd rather call it "interesting". But seeing as there's no "interesting" category, I'm going to rank it in the "fun" category... Virtually no replay value, but definitely kept me playing to the end.

Innovation... I would say that the level design was actually quite boring. I usually suck at ranking this category, though.

Didn't spot much in the way of humour, so marking it N/A.

If there were a technical score, I would probably give it 4 stars: it seems to run in suprisingly smooth bursts on a single-core IA32 on Firefox 13, but the physics just feel wrong.

Definitely worth playing once.

Tested with wine 1.5.18-git, appears to run fine.

Anyhow, for starters this isn't a game, it's a story with a "hold to advance" key.

There was quite a bit of effort on the graphics and it all LOOKS nice (considering the black-and-white-ness), but it could definitely do with some more animation in places AND THE PLAYER DOESN'T GO UP STEPS WHAT THE HELL

Didn't hear any audio, so N/A for that.

First entry I've managed to give a score for humour for. It's got a fairly nice and mildly amusing tone to it.

Moodwise... it tends to lose momentum at the end. So much more could be done here.

Overall... 2 stars. Make a game next time.

I dig this. I really do.

It's not exactly the most replayable game, but boy did I enjoy every minute of it. It's such a simple concept. Tnstead of falling into the art not-game category, it manages to also be a puzzle.

The music works so well here.

The only real critique here is that the graphics feel a bit amateurish. But that's OK, because they work well.

EVERYONE PLAY THIS, PLEASE it's quite touching really

Skware by tankete 2013-04-29T08:15:00

Best time: 36.1. YES \o/

This is my favourite entry so far.

It's a simple mechanic and yet it takes a while to nail how to actually fill that box. (I was gutted when I overflowed it the first time.)

I actually enjoyed playing this game for the 5 or so minutes I spent on it, and it's reasonably challenging. I guess it's like Snake in that sense (although it's definitely not the same game!).

I might as well just jump into the critiques.

Graphically, it's a bit of a mess. Making the squares easier to distinguish, plus choosing your colours more wisely, and MAYBE a bit of animation would help.

Soundwise, fairly solid, could do with some "yay you win" and "onoze ;_;" sounds when you win and lose respectively.

A critique that I haven't incorporated into your score: Having a "Press Space to start" message might help, I was a bit confused at first.

Overall, a solid game that I might remember to play in my spare time :)

Leaves - Feel free to modify the assets. Graphics must be bottom-left-origin 32bpp uncompressed .tga files, and any replacements must be of the same dimensions as the originals.

Alright, voting.

I got bored during this. But I pushed on and... well, it has a nice story. It DEFINITELY has a story, a nice, simple story. You just need to give it a bit more... drive, I guess.

5 stars for theme... because you went with an obvious lock-and-key puzzle, so this also takes a bit off your innovation score.

The graphics are quite nice, and it DOES look pretty good considering the "minimalism" you've decided on (coloured polys are superiour to black and white boxes).

There's no audio. Perhaps you could add some nice sounding sounds? You don't even need to do music if you're not good at that, just do ambient sounds. The plus side of that is it'd make the game feel a little less empty.

The plus side of NOT doing that is you're not likely to make the mistake of having a 20MB wav in a 200KB game. To avoid this schoolboy error, either use vorbis-tools and apply oggenc to everything, or use VLC, open the .wav, right click and then click "Stream" (then stream to a file with the Audio / Ogg Vorbis profile).

Overall, a somewhat boring but nicely polished art game.

The Windows build works fine in Wine.

Cyborg Computing Jet Fighting by lulzfish_4 2013-04-29T09:12:00

Woo, another bullet hell shooter!

Except this game really doesn't feel that good. The player hitcircle is a LOT larger than I expected, and... P to unpause, R to restart anyone?

It's also too short, and not particularly challenging. Come on, you had Lua by your side, you could have easily crammed more crap into it.

Graphically... meh. Stills look good and the bullets move nicely, but the transitioning is a bit flat, and you really could use the space better.

Overall... I'd love to see you try this one again, but this time do more stuff and make it gel better, and PLEASE, implement a lives system!

Cyborg Computing Jet Fighting by lulzfish_4 2013-05-21T09:16:00

The fact this scored so awfully just makes me want to punch a kid. Not a kitten. They don't deserve it.

If you want a higher score, make something like this in Unity using the built in collision detection stuff and use random angles all the time and make no damn sense and joing the masses of people who tend to use and like i'm using it here and so on.

If you want a better game, do something like what you did this time around, but pack more in. You get 48 hours. I believe you used 8.

I had the feeling that I'd eventually sussed it all out.

I was wrong.

And so we start with a high mark for fun.

Graphically, very solid.

Musicwise, I'm really hoping this was done during the compo, because I really like it.

...yeah stuff it, there's not much to say, really.

Although there's a bug (not included in the marking): when you click "Reset Level" and you're flipping stuff, it continues flipping on the reset level which results in an unwinnable puzzle, requiring you to reset the level again.

But yeah, very nice work.

Nesting by DomNomNom 2013-04-29T03:25:00

Works fine. Hoping to vote on this soon.

Welcome to Tree Simulator 2013!

Every now and then I like a good puzzle game. This is one of them! It's a bit short, and because of that, not that replayable, but it does have a lot of potential (i.e. adding more levels and constraints and whatnot).

It's also not a lock and key puzzle.

It also fits the theme quite well, and it actually works. Graphically and audibly it's pretty solid. A few extra sound effects might be good for when you e.g. win, but yeah.

Humourwise... you said "Have a potato" but I don't see one on my screen >:( In all seriousness, not much effort was in this department.

Moodwise, it feels like a puzzle game should.

Overall, you've done very well. It just needs more levels, really.

LD28 — You Only Get One

Runs fine on FreeBSD :) I should remind myself to give this a bit more of a thorough playthrough before I start voting.

Could you please produce a Windows binary? Unity Web player is almost definitely NOT going to work on this computer - I'm using an OS you probably haven't even heard of.

Sixteen in One by zatyka 2013-12-24T03:52:00

I enjoyed the shit out of this game.

Didn't notice any audio so N/A for that, but that might be because I built a version of Firefox which needs PulseAudio, and PulseAudio isn't properly set up, so it didn't come through. Oh well. Was there any sound? If so, prod me on the #ludumdare IRC and I'll see what I can do to get it working.

Rube by euske 2013-12-25T22:43:00

Hey, could you please produce a Windows build? I'm pretty sure the Windows version will run notably better on here than the Linux version, and the Web version will not work at all. Thanks.

Handy Capped by Crusable 2013-12-24T05:35:00

If you release the source code, I can at least try to compile this for my platform.

Wine's msvcp110.dll doesn't work, and Microsoft's msvcp110.dll doesn't work either.

YOGO - The Detective Story by psc1997 2013-12-24T03:05:00

Can you please get rid of the adfly links and just give us direct downloads? It's not in the spirit of Ludum Dare.

Teleport Hopper by MrBlade 2013-12-24T04:06:00

...I should probably give you a tutorial on how to do physics properly, because these are really clunky.

But on second thoughts, maybe I shouldn't. It might inhibit your creativity.

Audio worked fine. Graphics were pretty meh but didn't make me want to tear my eyes out so I'll give you that - plus they were fairly clear. It wasn't amazingly fun but it wasn't tedious either.

The theme didn't come through particularly heavily (perhaps you could have added, say, conveyor belts?), but it was a nice idea - just needed some expansion. And yeah, it was a bit of a push-over.

Overall, nothing spectacular, but nice work - and congratulations on making a game that doesn't crash.

One Trick Pony by GreaseMonkey 2013-12-25T22:42:00

@euske Unfortunately, because I have no solution for this problem, hating on Windows is the only thing I can do right now.

At least it runs.

Mr.Rect by Mindtricks 2013-12-24T03:41:00

Very nice work for a first game, even though it's really short.

The music is quite "meh" but it wasn't particularly grating either. Perhaps I should write an autotracker for that kind of music.

Also, using 64-bit FreeBSD here, and the Windows version runs without issues. With a little bit of tinkering, I managed to get this to build natively and run without issues.

Three things you need to note in future (no, you won't be "marked down" for these, it just makes your game easier to port):
1. Please, if you use SDL 2.0, say SDL2. "SDL" on its own refers to SDL 1.2 in most peoples' minds, which then makes people like me
2. If you need to #include something in a subdirectory, use e.g. "SDL/SDL_image.h", NOT "SDL\SDL_image.h" - the latter ONLY works on Windows, while the former works absolutely everywhere and is the ONLY standard path separator.
3. As far as I'm concerned, this isn't valid C++:
SDL_RenderFillRect(ren,&rm.getRect());
Use this instead:
SDL_Rect r = rm.getRect();
SDL_RenderFillRect(ren,&r);

Lazyman Makes a Sub Sandwich by alexc 2013-12-24T05:25:00

Not sure what to actually say about this game.

I've backported it to Love 0.8.0, but the port's a bit dodgy (your mouse doesn't properly match where you want to click), and I only did it out of necessity. However, if you really badly need it I can give you the diffs.

Imposter by Korwegian 2013-12-18T06:47:00

Hey, sorry about the lack of Linux testing, I volunteered myself for making music, did two WIPs, then got a migraine and couldn't continue.

The button text doesn't seem to be showing up. I could possibly help you get a bugfix working somehow.

Imposter by Korwegian 2013-12-24T03:01:00

Hard drive went read-only on me, so I had to back it up and get a new hard drive. Decided to install FreeBSD. The Linux version doesn't work, but the Windows version does... except I get the same problem with there being absolutely no text in the push buttons.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Switchboard Connection by Scott Baker 2014-08-27T02:08:00

@Scott Baker: From what I gather it's completely fine to upload the Windows build.

Please, fix the Windows build. Us Wine users rely on a standalone .exe that actually works, as the Web Player is the biggest pain in the arse to actually get working.

Switchboard Connection by Scott Baker 2014-08-27T02:08:00

Gah, I mean update, not upload.

Dream Epoch (adventure / rpg) by Adam Thompson 2014-08-26T10:20:00

Hey, mind doing an .exe build? Not all not-Windows/Mac users are Linux users, and the .exe files run through Wine tend to be more likely to work than the Linux binaries (and in my case the Linux binaries don't work due to an outdated glibc).

Linked Planets by Crazy-Goat-Media 2014-08-26T08:12:00

Hey, a note, can you please make Windows .exe builds and not just web builds? .exe builds are fine for those of us who use Wine, but the Web Player is a royal pain in the arse to get working under Wine. Thanks.

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

I was about to use this interpretation but for 16-bit x86 + VGA. Kinda burnt out before I had the chance to implement gameplay, though, so no entry from me this time.

I love the concept already. If I haven't tried this, prod me on #ludumdare (nick: greaser - I use a shell).

@DomNomNom thanks for voting, I'd just like to reply to one comment:
The reason there is no game over screen after you kill the boss is so you can see your score and lives - I didn't really have much time to add any "nice" functionality for that.

Musicians of the world, unite!

Anyway, pretty solid prototype, would be good to refine the controls a bit to make it work betterer... but DAMN this music makes a nice change from most of the other entries I've tried so far.

Jar of Rainbows by CrefossusJam 2015-04-21T02:12:00

Crashed Chrome, so had to review in Firefox, thus no audio unless I bring up the scrapings of a latrine known as PulseAudio... which seems to be broken anyway. (I have a weird setup.)

I suspect this was a 1-hour-or-less job. If this is the case, then that's a very respectable effort.

Gameplaywise it felt very mediocre, but was well-explained.

Despite the lack of artwork it was fairly well utilised (dem angles), and I really want to give you exactly 2 and a half stars for it. I've decided to round up.

Overall, 2 stars. I hope you get more time next time, so I can watch you scream "THIS IS MY TRUE FORM" and kick everyone's arses.

Fish Slap by LadyEnigma 2015-04-21T02:37:00

(Sorry if there's a double-post, the site died as I was posting this)

High score 190.

WebGL export works on FreeBSD \:D/

Well, I don't have sound working, but you opted out of that, so I guess that helps.
Nice gra- oh wait, you opted out of that as well.
Remember when people actually made their own assets for Ludum Dare? PEPPERIDGE FARM REMEMBERS
(but then again Unity WebGL export didn't exist back then, so I guess there's a plus this time)

----

With that rant aside, let's begin the actual stuff and things. Get your doodads and whatsits out.

The strongest point for this game that I'm left to vote for is the theme interepretation and its resulting mechanics, and this is where the game innovates.

Gameplaywise, while there's replayability, it doesn't really scale up very well in terms of player strength or enemy strength, thus it becomes a grind. I also feel that the enemies are a little bit too hard to sneak behind. The fact that you can get surrounded, however, does add gameplay value... although if you're near a fish-comatose enemy, you're basically invincible.

If you make a post-compo version of this, you could tweak those categories and end up with a pretty good game.

Make It Rain by musasabi333 2015-04-22T00:23:00

For some reason the robot didn't render for me.

Anyway, I like the idea, but I really can't rate this high as there's actually nothing to do other than run around and press X.

You have GOT to streamline your game making process.

The Amazing Fart-Man by fixedgerald 2015-04-21T03:18:00

NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL A GAME.

0xFFFF/10 would fart again.

BulletRain by iapc 2015-04-21T04:50:00

Runs on FreeBSD w/ native Love 0.9.1, although I downloaded the Windows version and applied unzip to it... and then rebound the keys because my keyboard doesn't like it when I hold space, left and up at the same time.

You may want to produce a cleaned up .love file, there's an extraneous "jam.zip" file as well as a bunch of rather large sources.

Anyway, this probably has the deepest gameplay out of any of the entries I've reviewed so far, even though I prefer to play it rather "vanilla".

For someone who apparently "isn't good at bullet hell shooters" you've actually done a pretty good job with your patterns and whatnot.

Highly recommended.

YOU are the monster... not ME! by leddkire 2015-08-25T04:20:00

It's a nice idea. Very short though. Also, sometimes things can get stuck.

I'd love to see more levels for this.

Sunset Monster by dregamr 2015-09-01T22:39:00

Didn't quite crack the end.

Main complaint is that the first wave is a bit too long and tends to drag. Other than that, pretty solid effort.

Graphics while minimalistic work *really* well.

Music's actually pretty good even if it's not really my style. Suggestion to improve would be to make it longer before it loops.

bloody tentacles by zuurr 2015-08-25T04:06:00

Let's just get the worst bit out of the way: The music doesn't grow on you, it just gets up your nerves. It's coherent, but the samples (especially the bass) really should be changed. Rest of the sound was solid.

In a single sentence, this game is a very well-made cliche game-jam maze survival game. Ultimately the innovation is the sheer spam of tentacles everywhere which you can (but don't have to) guide with the mouse, which adds a star to the innovation score, bringing it up to 2.

The level design is good and you don't often find yourself getting stuck in all the dead ends trying to find the last enemy, but that can happen on the last level. It's actually a quite enjoyable game, if albeit not very memorable, and is actually a reasonable challenge. (The lives system makes it a lot easier to complete.)

And of course, the graphics are top-notch.

I don't care much about mood but with audio or without you are definitely a big scary monster, which also helps with the theme score.

Overall, 4 stars.
