It was sort of weird since I didn't understand how to win or lose but this game was fun!
Thank yo @king-kuijto, you loose if you stay behind, and you win if you reach the top :)
Interesting concept, the crane was a bit wild with the physics but overall it was pretty fun to mess around in.
The art was brilliant!
Nice graphics, I like it! By the way it has weird controls and I should replay several times to catch them - despite that physics are very nice! Congratulations!
I really liked the graphics, but I was also confused about how to win or lose the game. The crane physics are a bit weird... I think that only the elevator should bring pieces, right ? Cause I keep getting pieces falling from the sky, and the gplay quickly gets frustrating...
Missing a little intro to explain that the kid and his cat are getting surrounded by buildings and junk (pieces). They want to climb up, the only way out. Also the level should be designed to help the cat climbing. Too bad players can't get to the higher cranes scenario, the clouds and space... instead they are smashed by junk in early game. We had a lot of fun on this 1st LD jam, @binaryunit had to learn physics and other stuff on the fly, amazing how he manage to get something working. Next time will be way better.
what a cool idea i really loved the game! don't forget to check out my game too :)
Also had nu clue what the wincondition is exactly but loved to play around with the game non the less !
Love the art!
I liked how you have "two characters" you control. Physics were a little funky at times but that's fine, that's Unity :)
Btw we have cats in our game as well. They are not so obedient though ;)
Great art style! The physics can get kinda weird and glitchy, and also there is a way to cheese the game, you can put the cat on top of the crane and just do nothing and wait until you reach the top. maybe this can be avoided if the cat can't collide with the crane.
It's definitely a fun idea although I killed my cat. Sad times. Well done peeps!
Good graphics!
The graphics look great! The sound gets a bit monotonous after sone time, but it was fun to play nonetheless. However, I didn't really get, how to win or lose.
All in all great work!
Very cool idea, it is a sweet game. The physics are a bit glitchy.
@wakka2 indeed the physics are a mess :/
I see you in every stream i enter today!
Very good art and sound, like everyone said the physics are a bit messy but even so its fine
Beautiful! The physics was a bit on the crazy side but I can applaud you for fighting the never ending battle against that particular engine. Art, aesthetic were on point and it was fun to play even though I often felt out of control of the cats fate. A perfect jam game!
Wow, that poor cat! A really enjoyable game concept, takes a second to figure it out but it feels satisfying. Congrats!
cool physic, it's kind of nice to manipulate the crane, the part with the cat is a little bit less fun, the graphic are quite original and add fun, kudos for your first ludum guys :)
The graphics are really enjoyable and awesome, but I didn't get the gameplay through many times trying. It feels kinda messy and uncontrolable. The cran didn't really help my cat surviving, because I went to the top even without handling the machine. Maybe I didn't catch it well o_o All in all, the idea is sweet, fitting for the theme, but needs more improvements.
The idea of the game is awesome, I like it. But it was really hard to control. If things would snap into place it would be better, I think, also if the cat would have some amount of AI to climb to the highest place (I see the cat jumps on the video but she was mostly still in my case), that would be cool. Also I managed to get the cat on my crane and as long as she was there I couldn't lose...
Good job altogether!
Original idea and nice graphics. Never did make it to the top but my cat liked watching me play.
safe_kitty.png Don't worry little kitty, you will no more fall asleep on puddles of ketchup!
Thanks for letting me play this on stream! I really enjoyed the art, the cat, the direction of the game! I just feel that the unreliability of the physics detracted from the game play somewhat!
Really nice art, well done !
The physics are a bit jiggly and chaotic to feel like you are ever intentionally making progress, but the graphics are great and the overall aesthetic and concept are really cute. It might be better to have the pieces lock into place so you are building a sort of ad-hoc platformer that you have to navigate as you build it.
Pros: - nailed the mood. saving a cat by stacking up junk? perfect. - nailed the mood. cables and cranes in stack city? sign me up. - occasionally parts of the background were also physics objects; good way to incorporate the ambient art. - falling objects help keep things interesting, occasionally they disrupted my stacking plans and added some excitement. - The crane movement is quite good. I'm glad it doesn't swing wildly, but it does still feel like it's hanging by a cable. - The controls are very manageable. I never felt overwhelmed trying to control cat and crane at the same time.
Things that could be improved: - Lots of people have already said physics, here are the specific things I noticed: - It feels like all horizontal inertia is lost when the crane releases a box, so throwing things around like I want isn't possible. - Shapes that should fit into other shapes don't fit; consider making the physics objects smaller than the sprites so there's a bit of visual overlap when things are touching. - The music got a bit repetitive. I dig the crunchy 8 bit vibe, it's just a bit short for the length of the game. - You can't have too much parallax in these sort of scrolling 2d games :D - The player can't control the flow of the game to match their skill. In tetris, the player can hit a button to instantly place a block once it's in position. It would be nice if there was some sort of similar feature here - maybe a button to instantly spawn another block and raise the crane one increment or something? I'm just frustrated because I lost when I was just starting to see the bottom of the clouds and now I don't have the patience to play all the way back up there =(
On the whole, a great submission. Thanks for creating this game!
@markopolodev whoaaa what a great review man, thanks a whole lot, we are totally thinking of making a post LDJAM version and release it on itch with some major fixes and tune ups that we were not able to do in time for the jam. The game is indeed kind of boring so far, and it is totally understandable that there is no motivation for replay ability, the whole screen takes around 40min to get to the top :P, also the physics ohhhh the physics they haunt us
Again thanks a lot for the detailed review and btw your game is awesome ;)
Art is amazing, but physics realization made me really sad. You should definitely keep up the work.
I feel that I can kill kitty with this manipulator : ) The game is pretty chaotic at the beggining. I didn't clearly understood what to do as everything ruined fast and I don't like lot's of objects in the front ( crates ) as they obstruct the game view.
The mood and graphics/art where fantastic!
Cool game! Loving the favela-type buildings in the environment!
Loved this art style, is confused that the cat doesn't leap as the introduction shows, maybe I'm not playing in the right resolution? Can be a lot of fun if the junk had some uniqe functions, or something that can guide the cat now and then... Just my imagination, this may be bad because of the time limit.
The art in this is great, really liked the look of the game. As others have mentioned, the physics were a bit off and the objects felt like they had no real weight. But I liked the concept and thought having to control the cat and the crane at the same time was a nice unique touch.
I like the art style and the take on the Tetris-tiles for a nostaligia effect. The game has a lot of potential. I could manage to build up enough height to let the cat get to the top line. During playing I could see that you can push the tiles down with the crane. Maybe the tiles should feel more solid somehow. Anyway I had fun playing it and the theme is implemented very well :D Keep up the good work!
