LD35 — Shapeshift

I Have Brig Plans by reheated 2016-04-20T02:33:00

Great. A nice thinker. Clever design.

You Have to Shift the Shapes by RGB Games 2016-04-29T12:11:00

Fun and the basic mechanics feel solid. Love the little particle effects.

Splitter Critters by GertJohnny 2016-04-20T02:42:00

Never seen this mechanic before. Great design and executed perfectly.

Sub Dragon by deepnight 2016-04-20T02:20:00

Nice graphics. Fun.

Pacifist Hill by wavertron 2016-04-20T16:13:00

Super awesome sound effects. Fun too.

Shifty Shape Challenge by howardcs 2016-04-19T03:22:00

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately there was only 3 minutes remaining when I uploaded it. With a little more time, it could have started easy and got more difficult later.

Shifty Shape Challenge by howardcs 2016-05-09T15:19:00

Thanks for all the feedback and good luck to you!

Regarding the various bugs, the main excuse is time. During development I found a fundamental problem with the engine that would prevent it from working for the original, more complex idea. At 5pm on the last day, the game was in a hopeless state so I shifted (see what I did there?) focus to a simpler idea using the existing code. This is my third attempt at LD and only the first one that I've managed to finish on time so I'm happy just to get something entered.

There's a whiteboard full of additional mazes and puzzles waiting to be played. If everything goes as planned, this will become a full game.

The Mining of Life by StaNov 2016-04-19T03:58:00

Very clever. Love it.

William's Dilemma by thunderklaus 2016-04-29T12:46:00

Great brain buster. Fun concept. The levels are put together well, each one becoming more difficult. Well done.

Edge Shift - Blackhole by Danoli3 2016-04-29T11:59:00

Love the graphics.

LD38 — A Small World

The Seesaw Redemption by Headmade 2017-05-11T08:38:40Z

Free at last! Love the idea and the character. Physics made it fun.

420 Planets by Kakureta 2017-05-05T16:59:14Z

I won! Fun game. The controls and movement work surprisingly well even with the rotation.

(Un)Happy by pcmaster 2017-05-10T15:59:22Z

Nice game. I made everyone happy!

Thruster Pack by jonnopon 2017-05-02T05:56:20Z

Very difficult. Even my Asteroids experience couldn't help much. I suggest ramping up the difficulty more slowly.

Where is mommy? by jQnas 2017-05-16T13:58:36Z

Great job capturing the feel of a scared little kid. First time I've rated a Ludum Dare game 5 stars for mood.

Carefulzilla by glimaleite 2017-05-09T16:52:01Z

"Please be really careful this time." They know me well. Sadly, I wrecked the place. Sorry to the dead and their surviving family members.

Bad Panda 2 by Pandakipu 2017-05-11T07:41:21Z

Maybe the sword should be to the right of the player at the start. At first I thought the E key wasn't working but I just didn't notice the doorway where the sword is.

Aircraft Carrier Simulator by superchihuahua 2017-05-02T19:10:39Z

Fun for a while then got repetitive. Great graphics for such short development time. This would be a good time/resource management game if there were more tasks to do.

littleBLASTplanet by gamepopper 2017-05-03T10:05:25Z

Nice fast-paced shooter. Frustrating to be doing well and then have an enemy land on my head though. Overall a good game.

Space Migrator by jackyjjc 2017-05-04T18:38:37Z

It was all going so well until my stacks collapsed like a row of dominoes. It's going to be a long day filling out all that paperwork.

Here Be Fish by Diedickegg 2017-05-11T14:22:35Z

Very confusing at first. Definitely original though.

Fixville by vladik-plays 2017-05-09T17:16:30Z

It's pretty amazing the amount of work you finished in 48 hours. It could be improved with some puzzles beyond finding the parts. Otherwise an excellent entry.

Digital Backwater by Max Cahill 2017-05-01T08:10:08Z

Interesting idea. I wandered around and left a message for other players. Fun.

The World of Zolcraft 🌎 by nervous-composers 2017-05-11T14:38:34Z

The first part looked so good I didn't think there'd be more to it. Nice work.

River Flow by slowian 2017-05-01T22:40:02Z

Good game. One suggestion is to grab pieces on the button down event rather than waiting until button up. I kept leaving the pieces behind by leaving too soon.

Flerth by parahunter 2017-05-03T08:36:03Z

Me like. Me smash. Game good.

The Z Axis by Meaty McLazerPantz 2017-05-08T16:35:58Z

@max-cahill Disable your adblocker if you have one installed. Ran fine for me after I did that.

"It's a small world!" by szczebel1995 2017-05-10T16:12:05Z

Great looking characters. I love the style and animation. Also a clever idea.

Retro Rabbit by wtoa 2017-05-04T13:35:21Z

Oh, a rock. I'll just let go of the W key and.,. Oh crap it moves on it's own. Ok. I got this now. Oh crap the world is shrinking!

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-01T21:33:55Z

@dagegen Yeah, if I continue to develop this it should definitely do more to reward skill and reduce the luck required. Thanks for the feedback.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-02T04:11:06Z

@richard-michael-smith Thanks.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-02T15:58:27Z

@slowian Great ideas. Thanks!

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-03T07:19:13Z

@khorm Thanks. Glad you liked it! Much of the gameplay came together in the final two hours.

@gamepopper Good ideas. Glad you liked the planets. I found a tutorial on how to make them in Paint.Net. Only problem was making and saving 36 frames each.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-04T14:12:54Z

@fiote Great. Glad you liked it!

@zorg Good ideas. I'm thinking of maybe adding walls for bounces and maybe putting a blackhole in some levels to influence the trajectory.

@daisy Thanks! It was an intentional design choice to make the background bright blue to represent the sky because the mini planets are invading Earth and are not in space.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-08T14:50:50Z

@merrak Good idea. Thanks.

@jackyjjc Yes, that's a confirmed bug. It tests for collision in the wrong order. When the planet is going fast, it can overlap more than one target and sometimes the farthest collision is detected before the nearest. I wanted to fix that but didn't realize the problem until after the submission period had ended. :(

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-09T14:56:36Z

@bunnery Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-11T16:12:26Z

@fixedgerald Personally I only care about getting to higher levels in this type of game but I now see people want a score too. Thanks for the feedback.

@namrog84 True.

@pcmaster Thanks!

@unidaystudio Thanks. I'm thinking maybe some sort of bonus or power up will do that in a future version.

@blaster391 Thanks. Good suggestion.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-14T10:12:43Z

@ajayajayaj, @conrad123, @wati888

Thanks. I'm planning to adjust the planet selection or add walls or both to help with lack of reachable targets -- possibly some sort of power ups as well to help focus more on skill than luck.

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-15T16:33:51Z

@pandakipu Thanks!

Small World Smasher by howardcs 2017-05-16T07:44:10Z

@garethjenkins Thanks! I've always dreamed of making things people could click on and now that dream has come true.

LD-38 SUPER SMALL WORLDS by elZach 2017-05-11T08:17:04Z

Reminds me of the custom platformer maps people made for Team Fortress Classic. Good times. Fun. Excellent graphics too.

Tiny Ranger by Crimid 2017-05-02T15:56:34Z

Fun game. Had to dust off my 2D platformer skills. If you continue with the game, maybe add more of a theme to the map.

Cartography by Zorg 2017-05-03T08:23:35Z

Great work, especially for the time allowed and your inexperience with the tools! You have skills! I got all the colors and finished. One little glitch. If you enter and then exit full screen mode, the mouse cursor appears and you can no longer spin in a full 360.

It's square to be a cube by Khorm 2017-05-02T16:21:53Z

Nice game with a retro feel.

This is the End: Small World by namrog84 2017-05-12T19:56:24Z

Excellent sound effects. :)

Sling Ship 🌏 by Quoclon 2017-05-11T09:34:23Z

Great job on your first game. The tractor beam energy limit makes it challenging while keeping it fun.

Exhaust of Earth by Lipsch 2017-05-11T07:34:35Z

Fun. I had trouble getting any kind of momentum going but it's a good idea. Maybe we could get water back when the UFOs are shot down?

A Couple of Questions, Volume II: Small Business, Small World by stoogebag 2017-05-04T13:09:20Z

Help! How do you ask someone about a clue? Hovering over a clue brings up the same information no matter who you're speaking to. Is that what's supposed to happen or is there supposed to be a different pop-up for each person? Clicking the clue does nothing. Trying to drag to the conversation doesn't do anything either. I'm playing the web version.

Antnator by sachos345 2017-05-10T16:25:52Z

Great platformer, especially considering it's a compo. Controls feel good. Love the backgrounds and the graphics in general. Well made.

Escape from Tiny World by KyTn 2017-05-17T14:15:47Z

I escaped! Weird and interesting mechanic but it worked. Good game.

The Curious Adventures of Ant, the Inebriated Ant by tdennist 2017-05-10T16:36:46Z

Kind of difficult to control, although I guess that's the point. Otherwise a good game and fun physics.

You Are An Elevator by Pixel Maniacs 2017-05-11T08:45:51Z

Everyone died. Sad story. :(

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Gather the Darkness by Jeremy Wolf 2017-12-05T21:12:48Z

Great use of lighting, both for gameplay and the look of the game. The controls are similar to an fps, which was a little awkward at first but became comfortable very quickly. Only downside is it crashed right after I died when the score window came up:

Gather the Darkness by Jeremy Wolf 2017-12-06T02:28:26Z

@jeremy-wolf web build in Chrome.

Drones Gone Mad by MossGames 2017-12-05T22:54:48Z

Fun but it's a little unfair when the 2 packages drop at exactly the same angle. You can't see one of them.

eatMoreBurgers(); by Luther 2017-12-05T16:03:42Z

Much like life - eat, get fat, die. Fun looking design and graphics. The tumbling is a nice touch.

Petrucio, the gem stealer by Thiago Ferraro 2017-12-06T14:42:55Z

Original and surprisingly fun. There's something satisfying about throwing the pickaxe at the cart and causing it to release the gems. A few times I had to make a snap decision to sacrifice the pickaxe to avoid being hit by a stalactite, which added more pressure to the game. Well done overall.

Spitty Space Faces by howardcs 2017-12-07T13:28:50Z

@azure2s @jeremy-wolf @andreas-ragen-ayal To slow down, you rotate to the opposite direction and press forward. I probably should have put that in the instructions. The original asteroids had Rotate Left, Rotate Right, Thrust, Fire and Hyperspace buttons. Yes, controlling the speed is part of the challenge although it's not intended to be frustrating. A light touch definitely helps.

@azure2s There was supposed to be music playing on each level, not just 5. Don't know what happened there. Were you playing on a Mac?

Dish Rush by WirkilichKeinBaum 2017-12-06T14:20:33Z

The manager sure does get angry. One suggestion is the up/down arrows should continue going up/down the steps instead of having to switch to left and right.

Clutter Bug by Abilean 2017-12-06T02:09:57Z

A very original idea. Fits the theme perfectly. I gave up on level 5 when my hand fell off. Only criticism is many times items at the bottom of the pile move instead of those at the top.

StackUp by BinaryUnit 2017-12-06T15:21:14Z

Original idea and nice graphics. Never did make it to the top but my cat liked watching me play.

SnakeBall by TomDev 2017-12-05T13:24:42Z

Clever puzzle designs and the progression from easy to difficult built up perfectly.

KissaGame by azuredraco 2017-12-06T15:03:26Z

Great idea, love the graphics and it looks fun. Needs more instructions though. Why do the cats die even when there's food on the floor?

It's raining tennis balls! by SraBatata 2017-12-06T15:48:23Z

I was playing perfectly and then it all went horribly wrong! 720 points. Simple yet fun game. Great job.

ParanoWeed by Eraleis 2017-12-06T16:34:25Z

The lose sound made me jump out of my seat! Love the reversal too.

Loot Grabber by AndreB 2017-12-05T16:21:13Z

More fast paced than games I usually play but fun.

Robin Loot by zanzavar 2017-12-06T15:41:39Z

This is really well done. I'm a huge fan of stealth games so it's great to see something like this in Ludum Dare. There's a lot going on with the weight limit, $$ requirement and platforming and it opens up many possibilities for tricky puzzles even in 2D. Great game.
