RIP in peace yo. I like the added run for your life element later on, makes it a bit more than a simple platformer. Music doesn't seem to fit all too well, but it's not bad. Collision seems a bit off here and there. I like the giant panda.

vivoubos 2017-05-01 18:13

Funny game!! Agree with the comment upthere. Collision are too hard. The game is beautiful and the music is so coooool!

apostate-games 2017-05-03 02:32

Good humor - bit of issues with collisions but other then that pretty interesting Here is ours: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/plutus

fueelin 2017-05-03 03:46

Collision issues are especially noticeable when approaching an enemy from above, which is - unfortunately - pretty common in this game. Could use checkpoints (maybe it has them but I didn't get to one) and a couple other nitpicks, but mostly I'm just sad that I couldn't make it to the end. I liked the music and especially the art - the main sprites were great! Charming game but the mechanics could be polished up a lot. Nice work, though!

cosine 2017-05-03 14:51

The collisions seemed wonky - the enemies' hitboxes were too big. When the game kills you even though you shouldn't have died - the satisfaction of knowing you'll do better next time that keeps us playing is gone. It's replaced with frustration and anger. So that's the most critical problem in my opinion.

I played the web version so I don't know if this worked in the download, but: have you considered scaling nearest-neighbor? It seems your graphics are mostly supposed to be pixel art (though not quite committed - some seem to be much larger assets). I know it's a mess on web - I don't know how you exported to web but I just think it'd look better.

askania-m 2017-05-03 16:12

I found it hard to play, may be because I am not a cool player :D anyway bad panda died way too often :( in spite of the fact that I tried so many times to make things turn well for it. However, the music is very nice and I liked graphics. Thank you for creating it and wish you to improve all little imperfections asap! It would be even more exciting to play :)

pandakipu 2017-05-03 20:25

Thank you all for your comments, the collision problem is just that all sprites have a 32*32 square hitboxe, I didn't have the time to modify this in the last minutes. It will be change after the judging :)

gamechoy 2017-05-03 22:29

Interesting idea, the platforming aspects of the game are good, my only gripe is the delay on swinging your weapon. You have to wait until the perfect moment because its range is so short and there is a delay on the weapon. I couldn't get very far without being frustrated, but if you fix this I'm sure the it will be much improved. I'll definitely give it another spin if you fix this.

pandakipu 2017-05-04 00:26

@gamechoy Thanks for your comment, I know the hitbox problem :( It's fixed, but not online. But the range is not that short, you can swing one block before the ant ^^

occultone 2017-05-04 05:09

I Played this on Livestream a bit ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwY1-PtcDqs

The attack button didn't work, and I had some specific tips for possibly making the game better. The hitbox size of the player needs to be adjusted, and perhaps the level design looked at. I had more tips in the video.

gris 2017-05-04 10:34

I had some trouble since the E key was not working for me properly. I guess explorer browser sucks as usual. The mood with the graphics and the music y cool though! Good job!

vivoubos 2017-05-04 12:39

@occultone @gris Did you try to go to the left? ;) When i look at the screenshot, i see a bamboo sword. Maybe it's linked ;) I'd like to try a post jam version :)

shiitman 2017-05-04 14:41

I like the idea, music is also good. Graphics are nice, but some death-animations or effects are missing. Movement is a little bit discontinuous, it should be fixed. Some saving or multiple lifes would be necessary, it is frustrating to start from the beginning after ants town.

Looking forward to post-jam version!

fatpenguin 2017-05-06 06:50

48h no time for sidequests :D Very funny game and cool boss fight. The hitboxes sometimes feel ridiculous but besides that a truly enjoyable experience. Good job :)

x1212 2017-05-07 12:32

Funny game, the physics could use some polishing though. I think it's probably just the hitboxes being to big, I often wondered why I had to start all over when I had not seen anything hitting me ...

Other than that, I think the sounds and graphics fit to the game very well.

nekoballs 2017-05-07 14:01

Good game! The hitboxes and the range of the sword felt a bit weird at first but was ok when you got hang of it. Loved the panda boss!

refreshgames 2017-05-07 14:34

Nice little game, as many others have mentioned, about the hit boxes being rather oddly sized, that ws a lil issue at first for me, then the rest of the game played out fairly nicely. Great effort for your second LD and congrats on making music for the game in time also! That's something I always struggle with myself.

xenosns 2017-05-07 18:52

Nice solid platformer, loved how you didn't just hand the weapon over at first, let players find it.

geck0 2017-05-07 20:33

Hey! I thought 'E' button doesn't work for me, but it happens because I didn't know there were weapons here ^^U. As some people said before, I think collisions are a bit big.

Good job for your second LD !

kyrv19 2017-05-07 21:06

I feel like collisions are off for some reason.

multiplexor 2017-05-07 22:01

The game has supergreat potential! The music and the gameplay style make it quite engaging, but as mentioned by others, the hitboxes are hard to predict and you end up dying unnecessarily a lot of times. Taking into consideration that everytime you die the game restarts, that makes it quite frustrating...

Still, I enjoyed it! Some dialogues are great and the music sounds awesome!

Keep up with the hard work! :)

doomshmuck 2017-05-08 02:47

I wasn't a big fan of the music, it got very repetitive very fast. As others said, the hit boxes were pretty hard to get used to. I also didn't realize I had to go backwards to get the weapon... reading the sign seemed to indicate that I could just attack straight away, so it took awhile before I noticed that. The boss battle featured some things I am also not a big fan of, namely guessing paths. That isn't necessarily a fun mechanic, IMO, but I'm happy that the checkpoint was pretty generous.

The game itself was a lot of fun though. You got a lot of content in there, and the graphics were really solid. I also liked the world you set up. Overall, really nice job!

starspell 2017-05-08 03:28

A pretty funny idea. The players needs a health bar or some hearts, one hit ko's are not very fun. Probably not a good idea to hid the weapon you need to get through the game behind the starting point of the player. A little bit more polish though and it would be a nice little game.

gameattack 2017-05-08 08:22

The panda is badass! I like the humour.

zener 2017-05-08 08:57

Game is pretty cool, just too little to die, maybe it is the collisions. I played the web version, could be that too

tristan0214 2017-05-08 10:22

Bad Panda RIP. Died so much, some collision issues. But a fun game and funny idea

dick-claus 2017-05-08 14:14

Very fun game. With boss. I didn't managed to finish the game. But was almost there.

Bad ass panda. Super. Collisions were a little bit big bug, I like difficult games.

aeveis 2017-05-09 07:51

Nice short game. Ditto on the collision stuff, it should probably be much much smaller (should feel like you're actually touching something before you die). Nice change up with the boss, though I would end up dying before figuring out the right way - I think it would feel better if the player had time to react and possibly get through verses figuring it out and having no window of success. Keep up the good work!

hackschnitzel 2017-05-09 18:54

So first... Thanks for testing our game. I played yours now and your Panda Game Art looks very nice. At the beginning I was also very surprised about the smooth movement of the player and WONDERFULL... Thanks for the keys at the first questionmark. However I was killed several times by the ant because The E button was not working in the webplayer. I guess you already know because you wrote that at your decription... already. So... Yes - Nice game... Congratulations

pandakipu 2017-05-09 23:41

Thanks for your comments, yeah, I should have taken more time on the colision issue :p

@hackschnitzel Did you find the bamboo sword to the left before trying to kick some ass ? ;)

g12345 2017-05-10 09:20

I've played the compo version. Yes, with the collision issues. In the end I've mainly jumped over the enemies I think I would have hitbox problems.

It's a short and nice platformer and it reminded me much of the Super Mario LCD game I've played.

I do think the final part is just way too much guessing. I guess guessing is fine, but not if you have to restart from the beginning and have to do the same whole thing again. Fortunately there's not too many guesses but I basically had to replay that part a couple of time only because of that.

gamequester 2017-05-10 19:27

I found it a bit frustrating because I often died because of the big collision boxes of the ants. I liked the graphics - I found them well fitting for the game. The music was good, too, but in my opinion it didn't fit the game very well. But this is only my taste. Overall a good compo entry.

arch-a-type 2017-05-11 00:40

There is potential here. It is frustrating to die. Not a fun frustrating, especially when you have to pick between paths without knowing if it is a dead end. The music is interesting, but not anything too special. As others have said the hit boxes feel off and dying feels unfair most of the time. Also, dying in the beginning and having to re-acquire the weapon is tedious. My solution would be to start the player in the cave with the weapon so they have to run into it. I did enjoy this game once I got the hang of everything. I love the art. :)

howardcs 2017-05-11 07:41

Maybe the sword should be to the right of the player at the start. At first I thought the E key wasn't working but I just didn't notice the doorway where the sword is.

athomicus 2017-05-11 09:50

cool game and interesting idea - I've tried to klick E but nothigs happens, anyway good job

jakob-willforss 2017-05-13 07:58

I liked the responsiveness of jumping and striking, and the overall intense mood was nice. I found the insta-deaths followed by redoing the steps I have done that far a bit frustrating, and also sometimes felt that I was killed by enemies despite striking them at the same time (maybe this is upgraded in later version!). Overall very promising, but some polish needed to make it truly enjoyable!

sgstair 2017-05-19 10:02

Very nice game, was fun despite the large collision box, once I got used to it I managed to get through the whole thing. End challenge is pretty mean :) Nice work.

I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/143780402 - time 0:46:20

daisychubb 2017-05-19 11:55

Love the unique theme, great art and honestly that end challenge was worth it! I died so much but I kept going back to get further, which gave it some replay value - great job for your 2nd Ludum Dare!
