LD38 — A Small World

Petty Puny Planet 38 by JorgeGameDev 2017-05-01T17:14:56Z

Well made! Everything looks and feels great. Gameplay-wise not very fun, but the results fun. I like how things you choose can have effect on the way random events are handled. Played it a few times to see if I could get different endings, so it's definitely replayable.

Cosmic Chaos Crunch by MrTroy 2017-05-01T09:21:17Z

Cool stuff, but indeed a bit too easy. Could be an awesome minigame if you balance it right. Like the idea, it looks good, so good job overall.

Tiny Worlds in Flasks by FiSilva 2017-05-01T12:28:20Z

Very nice style. Not much of a game, but you know that already. Cool little tool, I like the world in a bottle idea and it's nicely executed. Would be cool to see this developed some more!

A Small World Cup by rujo 2017-05-02T11:51:17Z

This is way too awesome, I love it! Really simple concept, but brilliantly made. Some sound would have been cool. Great job, so much wacky fun.

ATLANTIS by OccultOne 2017-05-01T09:32:17Z

Interesting stuff. Love the style. Was a bit confused on how to play and how to activate/interact with towers and such. Sometimes my unit moved when I clicked a menu item. Sound effects are a bit harsh. But yeah, a lot of potential here if you manage to explain the way its played a bit better.

Six Degrees of Separation Between Me and the Party by axoona 2017-05-01T09:42:46Z

Awesome style! Fun little adventure game, good job on this. Nice on for the theme as well.

The Last Haven by Tommyno222 2017-05-01T08:53:49Z

Awesome graphics. Loving the colors. Fluid gameplay, although the camera moves a bit too harsh when switching direction, makes it a bit difficult to see what's going on.

Bad Panda 2 by Pandakipu 2017-05-01T09:52:11Z

RIP in peace yo. I like the added run for your life element later on, makes it a bit more than a simple platformer. Music doesn't seem to fit all too well, but it's not bad. Collision seems a bit off here and there. I like the giant panda.

Comet Core by dalbinblue 2017-05-01T11:48:08Z

Absolutely love this style. Reminds me of commander keen somehow. Didn't get very far yet, but I'm surely going to give it another go. Plays nicely, easy controls, I like that you kind of have to figure out what to do and where to go. Is it intentional that you can shoot through walls when you stand next to them?

Llama's World by fancy89 2017-05-02T09:38:14Z

Great game! Mechanics work nice and smooth. Game is challenging enough. At first it felt like the arrows to slide were pointing to wrong way. More than once I clicked one, thinking it would go the opposite way. Maybe that's me, maybe the arrows should point the direction in which the whole board is going to slide. But once you get the hang of it, it's no problem.

Graphics look good, UI/menu could have used some more love, it didn't feel quite up to par with the rest of the game. Bonus points for using a llama.

Near kingdoms by Hadik 2017-05-02T07:45:00Z

Neat little game. Good idea to not just include fighting units but also a gatherer dude. Nice balance. Pixel art looks good, it works. Could have used a background music track and perhaps some more useful or special units, but it's a nicely made game in such a tight time crunch. Good job!

Party in Buntingville by hectigo 2017-05-01T13:16:10Z

Original idea, I like it. Nicely made, plays well. The controls match the art style. Sometimes feels like your movement is a bit blocky/rigid, but then again everything is blocky. So that's no major issue. Good job on this.

Phaeton by incobalt 2017-05-02T08:00:41Z

Really different, I like it. Sad little Pluto, nobody wants to listen to him. Controls felt like they could have been a bit smoother, felt pretty rigid for a planet, but that's a minor thing. There was a bit of a flickering of being lit, but I guess that's because sometimes stuff blocks the light from the sun. Makes sense, but looks a bit odd. I'm not sure how to improve that, as it's logical that something flying between you and the sun blocks the light, but just thought I'd mention it.

Story was good, concept is great, nicely done!

Unnamed Space Project by Devastus 2017-05-01T14:38:04Z

Pretty cool actually. I can see where you were going with this, this is a pretty solid start. I like the artwork, 'planets' are a bit simple perhaps, but the enemies and ship look great. Ingame music has a nice pace.

Chill Bill by drtizzle 2017-05-01T10:13:38Z

Thanks guys. @loktor a highscore (either local or online) was definitely on the list, but we ran out of time sadly. Good suggestion though!

Chill Bill by drtizzle 2017-05-02T09:47:23Z

@flukeshot You're right, I noticed this while watching other people play as well, people run around and slash away, leaving the energy meter almost always empty, leading to a whole lot of "Need more energy". Good point that needs to be addressed in one way or the other.

@kosmo the counter-fart is a brilliant idea, we hadn't thought of that. We'll keep that in mind if we continue working on this!

@james-dunlap Yeah the collision on the enemies regarding objects is a bit wonky sometimes. There's a little gap you can squeeze through between the plants on the left side of the level if that's the one you mean.

Thanks for playing and the feedback guys, much appreciated!

You Just Don't Get It by allthebees 2017-05-01T12:44:02Z

Sad story :( But good job on the way it is told, good concept. Would have been cool if there was a way to influence the story some more. I like the mix between 3d and 2d graphics, works really well. Sound is just right.

The World of Zolcraft 🌎 by nervous-composers 2017-05-01T09:14:03Z

Not a lot of gameplay, but I liked your take on the theme.

Vanishing Point by adsilcott 2017-05-01T09:59:55Z

Great art, that's for sure. Not a whole lot of gameplay yet, but I could totally see this working as a nice adventure puzzle game.

Supernova by Veralos 2017-05-01T18:08:55Z

Cool game! Loving the style and how good the controls feel. Simple but effective. Background music could use a bit more variation (on the planets). I like the looping around the levels, that's a nice touch. Planets could have used maybe another added difficulty, most of them weren't really that challenging.

The switch between piloting a ship and running around on a planet is nicely done, works well together. Overall, good job.

LD38 - Big Dreams by Iron Leonem 2017-05-01T14:06:36Z

Cool little game. Nice variation in power-ups and good increasing difficulty. Bullets feel very slow. Music is well made, but I personally think it's not a great match with the game. Other than that, good job!

BUTERATOS by buteratosgames 2017-05-01T12:59:33Z

Insane graphics, love the crazy over the top stuff. Gameplay isn't as great and could have used more attention. Feels a bit wonky, a bit slow. You're going for a run and gun on steroids basically, it would fit a lot better if the game also played fast.

Also, reading the previous comments and seeing the 'older' version leaves me with a mixed feeling. It looks like a recycled and upgraded version of something you already had going on. A lot of the same characters, just with better details. It doesn't look like you started from scratch, it looks like you used whatever you had as a base and worked from there, and I don't think that's what this competition is about.

But whether or not it was completely made during de LD, I love the crazy insane vibe!

SHAKEDOWN by LancesCaterpie 2017-05-01T09:06:57Z

Awesome stuff! Loving the style and the mood you got going on. Pineapple pizza is a great theme. Good audio too.

World of Hamster Kibble by johnnysix 2017-05-01T12:23:09Z

Rad hamster dude. Groovy art style, good little eating animation. Really fluid gameplay. A bit hard to see where I'm going and what the endgame is when you get all the food.

Retro Rabbit by wtoa 2017-05-01T10:02:50Z

Great job! Everything looks great, the vibe works, gameplay is nice and fluid, sounds are great. Awesome stuff.

Carcinogenocide by Editor 2017-05-01T13:09:48Z

First impression: a bit dark. I get that you're going for a dark intestine environment, but it would be nice to see a bit more. Love the start screen art. Wish there was more stuff like that visible in the game.

Other than that, it plays well. Controls are a bit iffy, somehow sometimes my character just goes on autofire and I don't have to click to shoot anymore. Different weapons are nice, would be cool if they upgraded your weapon if you pick up a weapon you're already using.

Audio is great.

Monster Deck by kamikaziuk 2017-05-01T13:26:15Z

Cool game! Took me a few tries to understand that I had to wait and time my attack and defend. Style looks really solid, sounds work well, controls are nice and easy. Sometimes I can't seem to add certain monsters to my hand, I'm not sure why. Other than that, really solid entry!

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-01T17:32:44Z

Lovely atmosphere. Great music too, well done. Sound effects are not as good, but they work. Game itself is a bit easy, but it fits the vibe you're going for.

Miniverse by sebasrez 2017-05-01T19:00:52Z

Cool idea. Seems to work well too. Got an Out of memory error after a while though, and the game crashed.

Besides that, I liked the style, the animations look great, good job on those. Moving your planet felt a bit slow, but hey, it's a planet.

LD-38 SUPER SMALL WORLDS by elZach 2017-05-01T11:24:03Z

Love the weirdness. Creepy meatdudes, awesome stuff. Controls felt a bit rough and the background/foreground elements seemed a bit too hard to distinguish sometimes, but I understand that's part of the design of the game.

Space Pow Collins by wisstopher 2017-05-01T18:23:30Z

Cool little text adventure. Couldn't find the last two endings. Is there something more than just the buttons/lever?

Small World a Flask by Drag0mir 2017-05-01T08:27:19Z

I'm not entirely sure what to do here. Perhaps a bit more of an explanation or tutorial would be good.

The Little World by JayTord 2017-05-01T17:41:10Z

Interesting idea. Gets pretty hard after a bit. I liked it. Could use a bit more feedback on what you're doing and what you're forgetting to do. Audio could help with that. The planet looks a bit bare, graphic-wise.

Shrunk Down by Chrras 2017-05-01T08:43:27Z

Cool idea for the theme. (Although, wouldn't this technically be a giant world, instead of a small world?) Platforming physics weren't the best, I got stuck on the side of platforms a lot while jumping. You can also spam mudballs once he has his arms up by spamming spacebar. I liked the art, although it's not top quality, I dig the handdrawn vibe.

Theatre Throw-Down by Ratbag 2017-05-01T11:07:00Z

Cool little game, good replayablity factor due to the random generation. Could have used more enemy variation, but I understand the time crunch. Mechanics work nicely, sometimes it's a bit easy to get enemies stuck and sometimes you have no chance at all, getting rushed at the start, but overall enjoyable game. A good base you could easily build into something bigger.

In Defense of a Dragon by d3zmodos 2017-05-01T08:48:20Z

Like the expanding map idea. The towers don't seem to scale along with the map though, making it pretty hard to see what's going on.

Hexoworld 9999 by Lugdumdare Team 2017-05-01T17:20:40Z

Nicely done. A bit slow/hard at the start, but once you get going it's pretty awesome. I like the way you move around the world. A bit hard to aim sometimes. Sounds are good. Graphics are good enough. Overall could use some polish but really solid game!

RC kitchen Throwdown by oxrock 2017-05-01T17:51:04Z

Dang dog keeps flipping me over. I like the idea. The car felt very slow in the first version, a lot better in the second one, although a bit like I was driving on a slick surface. The dog food thing totally lags my game but you know that already. Dog sound is nice, I like the slightly terrifying feeling when he's right behind you. Well done.

Stretchy Paw by John Beak 2017-05-01T12:33:22Z

Cool little game. Would have loved to see some more levels and perhaps some more gameplay elements. Kitty looks good, I like the simple style, it works.

Elf's Conquest by 0ctopuce 2017-05-01T18:49:39Z

Cool small game. Looks really good. Good animations, only one missing is a shooting animation. But good stuff nonetheless. Platforming is simple, feels a bit clunky, especially when you're being chased by the big dude. The art is better than the gameplay, so the gameplay could use some work, but nice end result.

Elf's Conquest by 0ctopuce 2017-05-01T18:49:39Z

I seem to have double-posted. Sorry

Primordial Ooze by primitive-concept 2017-05-01T08:34:35Z

Cool idea. Confused me a bit when you move between different 'depths', every step looks like the previous one, so I have no idea if I just went deeper or something didn't go right. But as said, cool idea.

Little Wild Invasion by Titangea 2017-05-02T10:01:36Z

Game looks great! The enemy especially. Difficulty is a bit high, seems like I went game over pretty quickly every time. Music is okay. Overall good game!

FUEL by KCreanor 2017-05-01T14:00:53Z

Great game! Good difficulty curve. A nice challenge to do things as fast as you can while not crashing. Graphics are not great, but do the job just fine. Same with the audio, but the gameplay is where this game really excels. Really really solid entry.

Bubblenaut by TheFunAttic 2017-05-01T11:16:16Z

Love the style, really nice graphics. Cool concept too. Platforming could use a little bit more work, but this game really stands out for me. Good job.

Den by La mecanique du plastique 2017-05-01T14:21:01Z

Beautiful stuff, congrats! Really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. Gameplay/mechanics weren't the best, but that's not what this game is about. Really well done guys.

Floraison by Iwa 2017-05-02T14:06:37Z

This looks absolutely amazing, well done. Big contender in the graphics department. Gameplay was nice and smooth, not a lot of gameplay elements, but it fits the chill vibe the game has. Music works well. Would love to see a bit more challenge in one way or another. Excellent job.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Journey to The Core by Holofire 2018-04-24T12:10:26Z

Works really well. Simple enough to grasp immediately, enough different options to keep you on your toes. Nice job.

A Tale of Two Kings by Ango 2018-04-25T10:34:36Z

Like the style choices you made art-wise, looks cool. Gameplay isn't very fun though, as it's basically just rock paper scissors. I like the addition of the cannon and dragon, that's a nice little add-on.

LokoRush by firellon 2018-04-24T09:33:46Z

At first play I didn't quite understand how the towers were placed and I started the race too fast. But cool concept, love the weird tracks going up the mountains and such. Would have loved to have a different view of the level when placing the towers, to kind of see the tracks and plan a strategy. I think that would help.

In My Car by przekop 2018-04-24T08:21:52Z

Haha that was properly weird, good stuff. I like the different personalities of the cars. Pretty solid arcade racing gameplay too.

Revenge of the LuchaDorks by drtizzle 2018-04-24T10:08:56Z

Thanks for playing and giving feedback everyone! @Magnega We had recorded some more sounds to use as effects, but ran out of time before we could implement them all sadly. That would have helped with the repetitive sounds.

We had some more enemies and towers/traps planned as well, but we decided to initially go for the minimal amount of features to make it work like we wanted to, and build from there if we had extra time.

Revenge of the LuchaDorks by drtizzle 2018-04-24T16:35:25Z

@gamepopper Good point! We struggled a bit with an incentive to actually use the level as you would in a platformer. We added a resource-spawning vegetable-garden so players would need to go up there in order to get all the veggies they needed to build towers, but the balance between that and enemy drops isn't quite right to make it actually work properly I think.

Revenge of the LuchaDorks by drtizzle 2018-04-25T19:37:28Z

@Holofire @kovareka @joemid @Fleoh @radmccool @przekop thanks guys! Much appreciated :D

Revenge of the LuchaDorks by drtizzle 2018-04-26T12:46:38Z

Thanks everyone! @obachuka totally valid point, the controls could be a bit tighter. We might release a post-ludum-dare version with more content, plenty of room left to grow as @arron-fowler mentioned.

Leave Me by Eroder 2018-04-24T09:43:54Z

Looks good, plays well, nicely done. I think it's a good thing enemies don't only spawn within visible bounds, but also outside what you can see. It makes it so you need to run around at the start, making sure nothing gets away from you.

Soccer Racing by reuno 2018-04-24T09:49:05Z

Looks incredible! Good fun, but way too hard to turn it seems. It felt kind of like the steering responded a bit slow, and then drifted out really fast. But once you get the hang of it, it's good. Original game!

FetchQuest by radmccool 2018-04-25T18:18:18Z

Looks good, feels like a wii game, which is a good thing! One heck of a trip to make that cat happy, haha. Game works well, wish there was a bit more features or perhaps smaller and larger trips to make each time, but for the limited time you had to make this, it's pretty awesome.

DroneOut by Nufflee 2018-04-25T18:04:19Z

Cool setup, took me a second to realize I was supposed to spawn my own waves, instead of trying to shoot the orange dudes. Maybe start the first wave automatically? I like the clean polygon style. Movement controls feel a bit floaty, and the melee attack lacked a bit of force or speed I think. That would make it a bit more impactful, makes it feel like you're actually smashing those dudes into pieces.

Duality by freso 2018-04-25T16:31:40Z

Really challenging! I like the idea of the extra life through collection both halves of the heart.

Card Castle by Moaid_T4 2018-04-25T10:47:56Z

Good tower defense. Took me a little bit to figure out how to use the cards. Wish there was an indicator where the waves are going to come from. I was zoomed in at one end of the map, and all of the sudden my castle started breaking, from waves coming from the other side. Maybe I missed something. I love the fact that you see it's a table top when you zoom out, cool idea.

The Dungeons of Indianapolis by Coda Highland 2018-04-24T08:50:11Z

Ha. I was wondering what kind of stuff I would encounter along the way, then I realized what kind of track the Indy 500 is driven on. Good one.

Remember or Die by GameDevMumin 2018-04-25T16:46:57Z

Original combo! It's a lot of fun, really difficult to keep track of everything while dodging the bullets. Cool stuff! Graphics work well for this sort of game.

Red and Black Wordly by ludum1118 2018-04-24T08:13:42Z

Pretty hard to understand what exactly is going on, even with the explanation.

Roundabout: ~ Roguelike & Rythm ~ Trading Bard Game by Gustavo Manchae 2018-04-25T08:22:38Z

Cool stuff, plays really well. The shine/solo thing is a nice touch. Did I hear a bit of Pick of Destiny in there? Haha. As others have mentioned, it would have been incredible if you had a background track playing, and matching the musical attacks to that beat, but I imagine that would have been quite a challenge.

Super Sweet Crispy Crunchy Crunch DX ( the final fight edition ) by Angry Squirrels 2018-04-24T11:15:58Z

Great art! Really good job on that. Gameplay seems a bit simple, the game is over in a few seconds when you play singleplayer. I like the idea behind it though, sneaky fighting.

Eggstinction by kukiri 2018-04-25T08:54:26Z

Haha loving the panicked dinosaur running around. Game works well, good job on this

Plane Fishing by Belga54 2018-04-25T18:28:58Z

Love the fish with the big grin, haha. The silly plane fits with the way you steer. Wish the net fell a bit faster, it seems really hard to not hit the bombs.

TIMBER by ponker 2018-04-25T17:55:03Z

Really digging this take on a tower defense. I like the multi-layer level. Art looks good too. Plays well. Pretty challenging to keep up with each side of the tree. Good job guys

WARtermelon by MaiMai 2018-04-25T19:51:48Z

Great graphics and models! Love the style. Movement feels a bit to slow to get a good shot in. A bit unclear that converting all your watermelon patches to towers makes you lose. But other than that, cool idea, the models are the best part.

Ten1Z1 by Lumous 2018-04-25T19:46:19Z

Liking the style! Graphics look good, game plays nicely. Took a little bit to figure out how to be good at it, but it's great once you get the hang of it. Great job

Bang Bang Revolution by Talonos 2018-04-25T17:04:14Z

Cool idea! I like the rhythm aspect of it. I'm pretty terrible at it, got 7 as my best streak. Bonuspoints for cactus with a hat.

Alchemist Adventure by Keppu 2018-04-24T09:05:01Z

Nice one, solid gameplay. Only nitpick (which has already been addressed) would be the unpredictability of the bomb explosions. But good stuff for such a short time.

Darkade by hatchet 2018-04-24T08:45:27Z

That was pretty damn cool. Really nice mood, well done

Happy Quiz by SophieM 2018-04-24T08:06:42Z

Awesome job, using headphones really helped set the atmosphere.

Tower Defense Dating Simulator by Killian 2018-04-25T10:41:59Z

Love the odd combination of genres. Gameplay feels a bit clunky though, wish the robot was a bit faster. Maybe an overview of how each towers healthbar is doing would be good. Difficulty could have been a bit lower, as it's quite hard. Models looks good.

BlowScape by Fleoh 2018-04-25T10:12:05Z

Cool combo, really had me running around frantically. First time I played I didn't understand you could jump up to the turrets so I instantly died after powering up the zeppelin, lol. Interesting mechanics with the resources and keeping everything powered up. This feels like it could work even better with two or more players on a bigger ship. Nice job, really interesting to see what other people make with the same combination of genres as we did.

Shepherd and Dog by obachuka 2018-04-25T19:44:50Z

This is really cool, digging those crazy wolves, great animations. Gameplay feels very fluid, it's a bit weird to get used to playing with two characters at the same time, but it works. Awesome job!

The Tale Of An Arts Major by gegy1000 2018-04-25T17:22:15Z

Love this stuff, reminds me of passpartout. Heres my attempt: artsmajor.png

On The Fly by qkjosh 2018-04-25T08:58:47Z

Amazing visuals, fantastic job. Gameplay is simple but it works. Could have used perhaps some more variation, obstacles, stuff like that.

If this doesn't end up somewhere in the top 5 for graphics then I don't know anymore. I didn't care much for how the conversation interface looked, it fell a bit short compared to the other artwork, but that's a minor thing.

The Magic Shotgun Coloring Book by BenPeterson 2018-04-24T09:59:25Z

Really original, good stuff. I like the art, and the report card as a scoring method looks cool (even if it doesn't work), good idea. Overall solid stuff, gameplay is smooth, idea is great, well done.

Dunk Four by edj99 2018-04-24T08:54:50Z

Simple and solid. Combination of the two games works well. Good job

Brute Force Art Defence by Shellfish Games 2018-04-25T08:36:24Z

Good tower defense mechanics. I like the idea of bullets actually splashing where they hit, and being able to miss shots that land somewhere in the level, that's a nice addition. Well made game. If I had to point out something that isn't quite up to par with the rest I'd say the graphics, but they work good enough. Awesome job on this, original stuff.
