This seems like a amazing game, i can't wait to play it when i come home today, good luck with your ratings

blooobird 2018-04-24 10:35

I have played it know and i am amazed, this game is fantastic, the graphics and artwork are really well made and the game feels so smooth and soothing. It's a shame that so few players have found this game as the visuals are the best i have seen during ludum dare and even better then some games that are actually realeased. The one thing that could improve is the optimisation for lower end pc's since my very bad school laptop have problems with framerates, otherwise this is and will most likely be one of my favorite games this ludum dare

norris-eldridge 2018-04-24 15:13

Wow! This game looks amazing from the images previewed here! Downloading now!

norris-eldridge 2018-04-24 15:24

So this is a very cool game. Graphics are flat out fantastic! My only "complaint" or critique would be it would be nice to had in a variation to the gameplay. But otherwise, very well done!

la-mecanique-du-plastique 2018-04-24 15:30

Beautiful graphics and ambiance, congratulations, the art is gorgeous ! I had some bad lag though, as @blooobird say you may have a bit of optimisation to make. I also had 2 crashes during the time I tested it. But anyway congratulations, you did a great job !

limered 2018-04-24 15:37

Wow. Your game is beatiful and gameplay wise solid. I had a really chilled out time playing it.

dj-depressive 2018-04-24 15:51

Extremely beautiful game and really cute narrative. I like that you made it both a 2-player game and a singleplayer game at the same time. The bugs seemed to miss the birds mouth sometimes though but that was just a minor issue that did not affect game at all. Amazing work!

hiwarp 2018-04-24 16:18

Impressive and cute art. It may be the first Endless Runner that I really love! Only questions in my mind.. Mac version could be released? And future post-jam release plans?? :D Good work!

rayne 2018-04-24 17:33

That's it. All 5 stars. Amazing, gals. I love birds, also. It made me feel relaxed. Enjoyed it so much. I want to see more

langotriel 2018-04-24 18:19

If charm was a category, you'd win hands down. I didn't expect to see such a delicate, beautiful game but here we are! The visuals, the sounds; it all comes together wonderfully! Well done!

velocity7 2018-04-24 18:35

Amazing! Charming! The game that listens. Awesome. Try mine as well. It's makes you happy when you finish it as well

cristhor98 2018-04-24 18:37

Im watching this game on twitch and... i dont know what i can say, i love it. 5 stars

urban-logic-games 2018-04-24 19:34

Absolutely beautiful art, sound design is to a really high standard too. The controls took a bit of getting used to as I was playing on my own, it might have been slightly easier if they didn't swap but I know you were going for a two-player thing. Great stuff!

fashionbatman 2018-04-24 21:39

Gosh this game is wonderful! Really detailed and polished. I need to get a friend to play this game with now. Really great job!

memel06 2018-04-24 23:01

You game was one of the best LD41 entry I've played! Detailed and polished, and funny! I loved the concept of the two birds in the copper pot. Loved also the metallic sound effect that triggers when you hit something with the pot!

It have some little bugs (sometimes you can't eat bug, or rarely birds overlaps each other) but it's awesome for a ludum dare entry.

I liked also the insects differences between day and night.

Thanks for your work! If you want, try my game also. I'll be happy of that :)

Beautiful game, with a wanderful graphics and sounds. Great job! If you want you can try my game on this link: [Scarry](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/scarry)

egawag 2018-04-24 23:08

This is so beautiful and charming. The art and overall style are amazing. 11/10.

azimuthgames 2018-04-24 23:11

This game was really cute and relaxing. I wish the instruction to hit space was in the game, I wasn't sure what the bars were and if I should avoid or eat the bugs. I also thought the first bird was a little girl with pigtails so I didnt think they would switch till later :) But it was still enjoyable.

kciwsolb 2018-04-25 02:08

I spammed space just to watch the bird derp out. Was fun. xD

lost-dutchman-software 2018-04-25 02:16

This is easily one of the best looking entries i've seen so far! Its charming and relaxing and the sound design is SO well done!

forest 2018-04-25 02:20

This is such a lovely little game. It's peaceful and pleasant. I'm not sure if I "finished" it, though because while I got the heart as big as I thought it would go plus one more correct response, nothing really happened, so I thought it was part of the "endless runner" aspect of the game. Haha, an endless dater. Although because I didn't have too much understanding of the characters, the answers sometimes felt arbitrary...

carnivoris 2018-04-25 03:14

I'm not usually a fan of dating sims, but this one's great! I dig the concept of a dating sim mixed in with something that requires a bit more activity than a visual novel. Great music, visuals are fantastic, good job!

jolett 2018-04-25 03:23

The art for this game is stunning, especially for the time you had. Not really much to say here except wow.

WOWOWOW, this game looks so BEAUTIFUL! Great work.

cileth 2018-04-25 03:47

The art and vibe is great, nice entry!

gumboot 2018-04-25 05:38

Wow! This game was so lovely. My favorite thing is how you chose to do the perspective and water, it was so clever and pleasant to look at and something I haven't really seen. For feedback I think that I'd say the controls were a little tricky to get to do what I wanted some times but it wasn't so bad, thanks for this game ( :

eitrius 2018-04-25 06:31

Very beautiful game! I loved all the little detail that you put into it. Art is amazing, gameplay is fun and relaxing, and the audio design is very nice. The only think that took me out of it a little was the audio after answering a question. Perhaps it could be just the reactions from the birds instead of a non-diegetic sound to let you know how you answered. Overall though, very amazing!

gamecarpenter 2018-04-25 07:27

The graphics in this are incredible, maybe even too incredible, sometimes I think my poor PC was having a hard time rendering the stream at speed =P. The water, grass and sky are all great, as well as the little bird.

I played the game one player, so it was, perhaps, not the best test of the game as it was meant to be played. One player it worked well, although with probably less confusion than you might get with two players. For example, in one player its probably easier in one player to see what controls what fairly quickly whenever you want to know. It felt like it was in the gameplay itself where it fell slightly flat for me. There was, I guess I'll call it a visual bug, where if you missed a bug because you were aiming too high when it was right in front of you, it would fly right through your body, which was quite annoying. If there was an end to the game, I never found it.

There was no music, but for once, I didn't mind, since the game was teeming with environmental sound effects constantly, and they fit the mood perfectly. In fact everything was extremely thematic, with the possible exception of some of the dialog, but there was nothing outrageous, and who am I to say how conversations between birds go?

The game executed on the theme very well, and was a creative choice, working together the two genres that you normally wouldn't think would interact in a seamless manner into a cohesive game with each aspect of it flowing together naturally.

blinkenlights 2018-04-25 08:07

I wish it'd have a Linux version... I'd really like to play this!

alphazeba 2018-04-25 08:14

The game creates quite a beautiful scene

rowan 2018-04-25 08:25

stunning looking game - i like the two player control scheme, very cute! please make a webGL build

Play our game! :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/check-please

samuelsousa 2018-04-25 08:37

A live canvas! Awesome!

mathijsvissers 2018-04-25 08:58

Amazing visuals, fantastic job. Gameplay is simple but it works. Could have used perhaps some more variation, obstacles, stuff like that.

If this doesn't end up somewhere in the top 5 for graphics then I don't know anymore. I didn't care much for how the conversation interface looked, it fell a bit short compared to the other artwork, but that's a minor thing.

mainghia95 2018-04-25 09:25

It was a really fun game to play. The storytelling, the graphics, the music go with each other so well. We also make a cinematic game with pixel art. Mind to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua

croewens 2018-04-25 09:35

I've played this with a colleague and he was impressed by how well this is made, especially over the course over the weekend! This is easily one of the best looking entries i’ve seen so far! Its relaxing, immersive and the sound design is extremely well done!

shape 2018-04-25 12:39

Absolutely gorgeous. The mechanics are not that complex, but damn, somehow the game is fascinating and enjoyable to play

jtn191 2018-04-26 03:02

hey, I did finally reach your game on Twitch Stream (jtn191) my vod will be saved from the play through. I played it at a bit before the 1:18:00 mark on the 4/25/18 video. Beautiful game!

gamesmartt 2018-04-26 13:34

Hey! I just got some time to try it out, must say, I'm really impressed! The visuals and sound worked really well together and I could see this as something to play with an SO and just relax for an afternoon, maybe add some sort of progression or a bit of variation in gameplay but it may take away from the simplicity of the game.

However, I do feel like it needs something more, maybe different things that happen when you reach certain hearts? I played for 15-20 minutes and couldn't get past 4/5 (can't remember) hearts, and didn't feel much progression. However it was super calming and put me into a zen like state. Great job!

doswosh 2018-04-26 15:19

Wow, love the visuals of this game, really great work!

sam-machell 2018-04-26 15:46

absolutely beautiful game!! realyl really lovely!

pickens-inc 2018-04-26 15:56

This is, by far and away, and without a shadow of a doubt the single best looking Ludum Dare game I have ever played, you absolutely nailed the aesthetic. The sound design is lovely. The mechanics are simple but effective, and as I mentioned on stream I'm almost glad that you didn't have failure added because I didn't want to see the two adorable birds fail because I am incompetent at games. Very good, nice job guys, and thank you for hanging out with me on stream!

jsmars 2018-04-26 15:57

Wow! Extremely beautiful game both graphics, style and execution! I really like the idea of a two player game like this too.. will have to try it out with my wife later! Even though I like the idea of it not having an end, I still think it would have more replay ability if there was some sort of end, or score to beat.. it could be fairly casual, maybe a type of "couple score", on how well you shared your resources and answered the questions.. similar to what Wii party has :) Really well done anyway, going to follow you to see what you will do in future LDs as well :)

reality-blind 2018-04-26 16:09

@rebecca-kremer We finally had time to play, it was a great experience ! I didn't read all the comments, but I'm pretty sure everyone agreed on how beautiful the game is 😊

The sound design is really well made, everything is where it should be, the music is facultative on this type of games.

I think we only lack a goal, or a sense of progression (a number of days to travel could fulfill it, or a music, more instruments adding to the theme while they love or hate each other, for example).

It is by far one of the most beautiful games I played on this LD, and the most soothing 😄

Great job guys !

captainpilot 2018-04-27 00:19

Beautiful game and I love the atmosphere it creates. I'm a little unsure as to what exactly eating the bugs do but loved the experience.

Absolutely beautiful game, it's hard to believe this was done in such a short amount of time!

hi-im-greg 2018-04-27 00:34

Very chill, exactly what I needed after a long day at work haha. The art was gorgeous and I totally didn't expect a day-night cycle, was very mellow and dreamy. Mechanics were a bit lacking, but the chill time totally makes up for it. Solid entry :)

baubau 2018-04-27 00:37

Just stunning graphics... Gameplay is very smooth as well, didn't get to make them squabble though :D Congrats!

kroltan 2018-04-27 00:50

Definitely hits a 5 on mood and graphics!

The sound design also is really nice.

However I have rather failed to see the theme connection.

nebbishhacker 2018-04-27 01:14

Lovely art, relaxing gameplay. I didn't have anyone handy to play with, but I'll have to try playing with my girlfriend the next time I see her. I will, however, maintain that "thiiis much" is a perfectly non-awkward answer to "tell me how much you love me".

primitive-concept 2018-04-27 02:09

Really enjoyed the art and sounds, sets a very peaceful, pensive mood. Took me a minute to figure out what was going on, but once I got it, it was easy to settle into a flow (even if I was only playing by myself).

nathalia-hohl 2018-04-27 02:30

Finally got to play your game and it is beautiful! The art is fantastic and the mechanic of switching roles is really cool. Having to stretch the neck (what was a bit funny) besides piloting to collect was a good addition. Had no one around so had to put my coordenation into work, but I intend to show it to my fiancé this weekend (he's the one that makes games with me). The sound effects are also nice but I'm unsure if it wouldn't go well with some good, relaxing music. Although the atmosphere was great I missed a bit of a challenge. There were times I would have failed due to bad coordenation + getting distracted apprecianting the art (that's not a bad thing!) + not having read the instructions previously (er... I always do that), but did not. Gameplaywise, I believe more intense spurts of play (with failure by collision, if you think it has it's place) intercaleted with the dialogs would be a lot of fun to play with someone. But I understand the difficulty of implemented so much in the short amount of time and yours is truly a great entry.

As a wannabe game artist, I really appreciate your work. ^-^

For some reason I like that's it's a sparrow and a crow. They're cute together.

Lastly, who is Colin?

phaze0 2018-04-27 02:38

It's a quaint game, and I'm sure it gets challenging fighting another player over control (unfortunately I've no way to test it). But even limiting to one set of still gives a bit of challenge. The graphics are gorgeous for a jam game too!

acoto87 2018-04-27 03:08

The graphics are amazing. The gameplay is simple and very nice to navigate the little casserole, with the sound it makes when a border is hitted. Very nice entry, good work!

rhoka 2018-04-27 03:10

Capture.PNG

Just played your game! its very adorable! Had to play it one player so had a little extra challenge but it was still enjoyable! The mood was just fantastic between the smooth day/night transitions and the calming ambient soundscape. Really loved the graphics and being the artist for our game I really hope to be able to make that level of art in the span of a jam someday. Overall loved it

diptoman 2018-04-27 03:11

First, the cons: The "dating sim" part seemed tacked on and not particularly integrated with the rest of the game. Also, without any variety (not environmental, just gameplay-wise) - the game does get repetative after a while. Having said that, the presentation is incredible - and the best I've seen so far in the LD! The switching mechanic works very well with the whole idea. Overall, great work! Put me in a zen mood.

latchgamedev 2018-04-27 03:30

Loved the graphics and the mood was great. Would love to see this developed more if you have the time to work on it more. OnTheFlyReview.png

manbeardgames 2018-04-27 03:38

Just finished playing, here is some of the feedback from me

--- Graphics ---

Visually this was really great looking. The depth of filed used on the insects coming towards was really nicely done as well.

--- Gameplay ---

The gameplay is pretty cool, I imagine it would be better with an additional person to play with (sadface). There were times when I would try to eat one of the insects and it would just pass through the birds neck because it was just barely to low. Led to a lot of having to tap the direction to eat, since pressing the button fully extends the neck out

The dialog with questions between the two was interesting. Some of the questions, like "What is my favorite time of day" felt a little strange when I got it wrong. I didn't really have much insight into the birds so I wasn't sure what their favorite time of day could be. Some of the others, I could tell what the correct answer could be based on them being in love/dating.

--- Audio ---

The environmental sounds definitely fit the game and help with the overall mood. The sounds used for the birds themselves was really good too

--- Controls --- The controls works fine for single player. It wasn't too complicated controlling both, and would have worked just as well with two players.

--- Overall --- Overall this was a really cute entry, and I enjoyed it. Nothing much else really to say.

markopolodev 2018-04-27 03:45

Probably nothing here you didn't know already:

* The rotating skybox constantly transitioning through time of day combined with the changing atmospheric effects to give a slightly surreal feel to the whole thing; reminds me of a lot of Ferry Halim's orisinal flash games  * The neck craning animation is a bit strange, seems like it might be better to have the entire body move / stretch / etc. I have no idea if skeleton animation is doable within the time frame of a jam, so maybe this is unrealistic =\ * better grass than a skyrim mod  * it was kind of difficult to see floating obstacles coming, so it would be pretty frustrating if colliding with them had significant consequences.

Not sure if sound effects are relevant, but: * I think it was a good decision to make the "eat bug" sound a water drop instead of like a chomp or something more abrasive. * that metallic clink from the pot hitting things is very good.

wassim 2018-04-27 04:14

Amazing Graphics, Loved the reflection and the environment! Like the idea it's nice and suitable with the gameplay! Amazing Job!

archimagus 2018-04-27 18:48

This is one of the prettiest games I've played the whole jam. Well done. I do with there was just a bit more gameplay, or at least a death condition so I couldn't just forget to switch forever :) Still, it's beautiful and peaceful. I'll play it with my daughter.

cg-fred 2018-04-27 19:19

Interesting game. I felt like it got repetitive kind of fast and I was annoyed with the birds hit detector when trying to eat bugs, I really felt like bugs flew through the birds head.

But still a very good LD entry. Well done!

landosystems 2018-04-27 21:38

Gorgeous game, very charming. Everything fits together into such a nice cohesive experience. Very well done!

@reality-blind @nebbishhacker @nathalia-hohl Hey guys! I was wondering if you had had time to play On The Fly with your girlfriends/fiance yet, and if so what kinds of feedback they had? I'm trying to get more couples input on the general mood/feeling of the game and how it made you feel together and would really appreciate knowing what they had to say. :)

honest-dan 2018-04-29 15:36

Really loved the visuals and mood of this one. I think in this type of game the visuals are really vital in getting the players to engage and care about the characters. Seems a cute one could play through with little ones too, which is rare for a LD game. Good job both!

ethereal-psyche-games 2018-04-29 15:37

This game is so beatiful and the concept is so sweet! I love it!

Everything fits veeery well!

Good job!

twinghosts 2018-04-29 15:50

Wow this is really well made, I love visuals especially! Fun combination and fun to play. Unfortunately it became repetitive really fast, but I dont judge because its a gamejam game and a good one at that!

corbak 2018-04-29 15:54

Well, very well polished game, the design and its graphics were stylish. I enjoyed the day/night passage and the little "love story" between the two birds. Strange combination of genres but peaceful adventure and adorable design. Nice.

lemonbalmgames 2018-04-29 15:55

What a beautiful experience! Can't really say much on top of what others said before me but I had a lot of fun with your game. Graphics and mood are amazing. Great job!

langotriel 2018-04-29 16:17

It's a cute game with wonderful visuals. I only wish it had some more dialogue as I encountered a repeated prompt after just a few minutes which pulls you a little out of the experience.

albuquerque 2018-04-29 16:19

For me this was more of a art experience than a "fun" game to play. BUT! What an art experience! Congrats on your game.

stardynamic 2018-04-29 16:29

Hi. I played your game after watching your stream. I love the mood and the sounds the pot makes when hitting the side of the stream. Evoked my memories of milo and otis :D Great work all around. Looking forward to your next submission!

holyblackcat 2018-04-29 16:33

Great aesthetics!

Lol'd on on "Do my feathers make me look fat?". :P

I only wish dialogues would appear more often and the correct choices were more obvious.

nebbishhacker 2018-04-29 16:33

@Rebecca Kremer I'm afraid I won't see her in person again until mid-may 🙁

ekkoekko 2018-04-29 16:38

The two birds are very cute i hope they can be my pet. By the way its fun to play.

solnak 2018-04-29 16:44

The way that the level unroll is very beautifully done ! I enjoyed it but the gameplay didn't feel like there were any stake or goals.

randomphantom 2018-04-29 17:30

Simply adorable and supremely polished visuals. 5 stars mood and graphics! The 2 player mode was still playable single player (forever alone lol!) but it would have been a cool experience with a significant other. I guess the lack of goals and ramping up of challenge makes this endless runner run out of steam a little, but otherwise the game mechanic was sweet and very well done!

remi-gourrierec 2018-04-29 20:20

Beautiful game. Love the graphics, sounds and peaceful pace.

I find no fun in dating sims games so I can't be a good judge on this. Seems just added on the runner part to me and not blended with it tho.

But I don't care. It's charming!

Good work!

jsd 2018-04-29 20:49

Beautiful game all over. The dating part seemed kind of simple but since it was really relaxing it was okay. I did encounter once that the dating question just disappeared without answering so maybe that's a bug but besides that everything was gorgeus and really well done.

If you've got the time please give my game a try, thanks! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/nanashi

thebreakfast 2018-04-30 00:32

Hello fellow Winnipeggers! I just got around to playing your game and oh my gosh, it's beautiful. You are both so talented! The art is just gorgeous, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Very good work!

rodrigo-denubila 2018-04-30 03:40

Amazing graphics! One of the most beautiful game I saw this LD. Congratulations! My only complaint is about the lack of end. I intentionally let the bird starved to death, but nothing happened to him.

Good job!

Please, take a look at my game too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

gerardb 2018-04-30 13:59

Amazing work and amazing game!

arch 2018-05-01 03:09

Excellent art and diversity of bugs. Sadly I played it alone, but it worked just fine! Sound design was excellent as well, and the game overall was very relaxing. I'll second the input of @Rodrigo Denúbila and say that an ending of some sort, or a difficulty curve would round out the game really well.

joemid 2018-05-01 04:05

Definitely the most gorgeous game I have seen in this JAM so far! The sound design is fab. Had a graphic glitch I think- or was that a squabble? The crow seemed to teleport into the sparrow until the next swap. LOVE the character design and how form follows function. A very relaxing game. Thanks so much!

gastricsparrow 2018-05-01 04:48

This has better visuals than some triple A games! What a special experience. I’m in awe at how you can create such aesthetics in the time given. And I especially love that it’s a bout a Sparrow! ;)

csanyk 2018-05-01 05:13

WOW what a beautiful game! I'm so impressed with the graphics and audio. Really amazing! And it's very relaxing, great atmosphere.

The only thing I didn't care for was the sound effect for when you make a choice in the conversation. It doesn't mesh with the rest of the audio design. I'd replace it with some kind of natural bird sounds.

secretpocketcat 2018-05-01 06:58

The game's gorgeous and the SFXs definitely make up for the missing music. Some of the answers made me LOL.

I played it with my significant other and even though she doesn't play that much, we thought the gameplay loop was fairly shallow maybe if there was something at stake. BTW. does the debris actually do anything?

jk5000 2018-05-01 15:34

The game is pretty and the use of sounds in the game was really good. I am sorry to say this, but for me was the gameplay really not that interesting. I would also have like this kind of game to have a story, but if there was one, I did never got what it was. Overall a okay LD game.

paul-avallone 2018-05-01 17:02

This is so beautiful and calming. The art and animation are amazing. I love the little pings of the pot bumping to to stuff. The lighting changing from day to night is amazingly fluid. The controls are very fluid too. I love that the angle of the path looking like an infinite ball. Great job

wdebowicz 2018-05-01 21:25

I had a fun playing it with my wife! The most beautiful entry I played this LD.

I am alone, so I had to be the two birds at once... Whoopsie.

I have alot of things to say and a few time on my hand, so let's make points :

Graphs : Amazing. No, really. Beautiful 3d models, cute birds, and some sweet water (even looking a bit toxic, but I guess that's normal with how much garbage there's in there.) The skyboxes are awesome too, with color grading changing effects that are really appreciated, because that's a super nice effort during a jam.

Sound Design : Nice ambiance, adapting to the day/night cycle, cute birds sounds, maybe it would have been perfect with a few calm piano notes on the background but that's a personal taste :D

Gameplay : It is really well working indeed, it's calm, cute, the controls are easy to learn and use, maybe it coulda have been a bit harder, faster, and more dynamic during the fly-catching sessions, but that's because i'm an arcade maniac, I fully understand that maybe it would break with the intentions behind.

That romantic bird stroll in some bugs-filled post-apocaliptic world on a polluted river was extremely good. a very, very nice entry. Even if I have apparently some problems with my bird seduction lines, was on 50% win-rate on my answers :P

First of all, thanks for playing our game on your stream! It's always great to see people's human reactions rather than only text. Secondly, this game is beautiful! Well done. I played the game with my wife and I thought it was really sweet.

Great job! I didn't realize it was a multiplayer game, and played by myself which I guess had an experience of its own, which I actually enjoyed.

Hi Winnipeger, thank you for trying our "Pet Food" game! I tried your game out today, it's extremely well done, good job! I gave you full stars, wish you best of luck, looks like you're doing very well.

This is a very charming and relaxing kind of game. I found the controls very easy to use, would work with a twin-stick controller setup, however, I wasn't sure what the downside was for having one bird's status down to zero. I found the questions both sweet and funny based on the context that they are birds, like how on earth does a bird know what a computer is and why would it need one.

I like the texturing and lighting in the scene, looks almost like an acrylic painting.

That was awesome. Thank you.

Graphics are really beautiful! It would be great to see a big game with narrative about these birds' journey in such beautiful environments)

This was such a pretty little experience you made :) Best atmosphere of the jam! I hope you add an ending.

Best looking game I've seen in the 3 years I've done LD...... I'll definitely be following your future work.

wow, really amazing gfx, it looks like an oil painting, & i like the switching mechanic. i found it a little bit difficult to judge the distance of the flies coming at me. very nice calming atmosphere... even with the ninja blackbird XD

great stuff! ^__^

When I watched the flies focus into view and a bird bob its head, I felt entranced! If you continue to develop this, after I balanced the meters, I didn't know what skill I could improve on.

saoi-games 2018-05-14 05:23

I was excited to play this game because the graphics were gorgeous, and I thought it might be a balanced and polished game.

However, when playing it, I couldn't find an ending. I know you were hoping to make an endless runner, but after 3-day cycles, I couldn't tell if there would be more content. I wish the game had a more definite ending. For example, if the heart filled up to let me know that the birds had solidified their love for each other, then I would have known the game was over.

An endless runner works because you get to a specific state and you die, but there was no death in this game. The current gameplay turns a potentially beautiful love story into a boring and tedious mission to eat bugs and survive. That doesn't leave much room for romance.

I also didn't know what would cause the dialog to happen. We didn't realize that the meters were hunger, and tried to keep them low to unlock the next stage of dialogue, but it seems random when a dialog box would pop up.

If you added a goal or a progress meter that showed how close the birds were to falling in love, it would have made the game much better. Since I didn't know how many rings around the heart was the final stage I was left uncertain about my progress as I played.

rebecca-kremer 2018-05-14 15:02

@saoi-games Yeah we were hoping to implement two end states: one for being hungry and one for reaching maximum love. In the end we didn't have time but are still very happy with the result.

The main pillar we wanted to instill in our game was a feeling of calm and, if played with a loved one, a feeling of cooperation. We didn't want to sacrifice other, more relaxing aspects of the game such as sound effects towards programing an end-state which would be more stressful than zen. :)

saoi-games 2018-05-14 20:08

@rebecca-kremer One thing that you could have done is have an ending come up in one of the dialogs after a certain amount of time. Like the epilogue to a fairy tale, or a peaceful send-off at the end of a book.

Even if it said simply "As their love grew Sparrow and Crow lived happily ever after " or "After developing a deep respect and blossoming love for each other Sparrow and Crow spent the rest of their days together on the stream where their children can often still be seen today"

Both could have a button to continue or new game that would take the player back to the endless runner part if they want, but would bring the sense of completion to the game.
