nice game! :D
Interesting game!
Cool idea! This is great training for twitch shooters, too!
Cool idea! I like the rhythm aspect of it. I'm pretty terrible at it, got 7 as my best streak. Bonuspoints for cactus with a hat.
Awesome game!
Did anyone else try shooting the hat off the cactus?
Interesting idea. It'd be cool to see how the FPS element could be developed a bit more, as I didn't see much point in moving around - standing still and focusing just on aiming with the mouse seemed the more effective strategy.
This was fun! I'm really bad at it, but the shooting to the beat became natural pretty quickly.
My top score was 19, but I think that was mostly due to a lucky series of targets. They are different each time, right? It was hard to shoot from one side to the other.
The graphics and mood were spot on. I like how the gunshot wasn't distracting. You put some thought into it.
Good job!
@rjhelms Thanks for the feedback! I would agree--moving doesn't help much, if at all. During development I tried moving to different angles or side stepping to move from far left to far right targets easier, but eventually found myself going back to the standing still strategy.
Also that is an awesome idea for the hat. I should put a quick update to allow for that :joy:
this idea could be used and tweaked for a really cool aim training game! made it to 20 with a bit of practice
Thank you for joining my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.
I liked the idea of this, but it ended up not being that great for me. I think part of it was that it there was no clear end or goal. I couldn't lose by missing too many shots, and the score reset with every miss.
More variety would have also been nice, the targets remind me of a carnival shooting gallery and that seems like a theme that could be embraced by this game if you continue to develop it.
Well, i suck at shooters and pretty good at rhythm games and even though i missed half of the targets i still had some fun with this game. Btw, i tried to shoot the hat off the cactus and sadly nothing happened, feels like a missed opportunity to me 😉 Overall nice entry!
Had a lot of fun, especially once I got into the rhythm of it :) I only got to 30 as you saw but I was very proud. This would make an absolutely fantastic VR game! 10/10 cactuses with hats. Could have used more tumbleweeds for mood. ;)
I personally suck at rhythm games and I'm also bad at FPS games. Would have been awesome if you could added more things to the game. Maybe a shooting gallery where you can create your own music by shooting things! All in all a great LD game!
Finally managed to try it! It's indeed hard, but once you get in the rhythm it get really fun! ...And frustrating when you lose your 50+ combo......
Really fun for a compo entry, hope you had fun making it! :)
Wow, that was really great! Amazing concept and really well executed gameplay! I loved it.
One potential gameplay feature to add is a button you can shoot to speed up / slow down the game.
I'll be using this to hone my FPS skills for sure!
Well done!
Great fun. Interesting genre combination.
I think my best score was 26. Enjoyed the Cactus Hat Easter egg and the original approach to combining an FPS & Rhythm game. Great work!
I'm going to bookmark this and use this as a warm-up before I play Counter-Strike. Great job on this mash up of genres! I really enjoyed playing your game!
Even though I was terrible at this game, I really enjoyed it! I thought it had a really nice charm and some engaging gameplay. And I second minibobbo's comment about the gunshots, and how they don't interfere with the game. I was a little disappointed that it was more rhythm than FPS - though with my high score of 6, I shouldn't be complaining! But I sometimes felt like there targets I hit but it didn't count - maybe some lag or desyncing on my end.
Simple, but fun! My best score was 9. It's a little harder to make sure I can aim well. I like the looping song you picked for this!
I'm missing ratings on my entry still - please check out my simple [rhythm blackjack game](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/blackjack-beats)!
@niterich Thanks for the feedback! After watching several different people play the game I have noticed some players tending to rush the beat or shoot lower (where the target is about to go red). I have also heard others say they have potential issues with mouse input lag.
With this, I have definitely learned something about future game development projects: **Get other people to play the game ASAP!**
I found that over the LD weekend, I got to play my game a lot, and as a result I got really good at it. But the experience might not have been the same for all players and all hardware. I wish I took time to send the game out to a few friends to receive early feedback and advice.
@talonos I hear that! I worked on my game so much I thought everyone could pick it and play. Based on feedback, no one was able to figure out the controls! And the one piece of advice I've heard about difficulty is: if you think the difficulty is just right, it's actually way too hard.
The game's concept is very cool. You really have done a great job. The mix up of genres is amazing.
