LD42 — Running out of space

The Return by seizethedia 2018-08-16T04:32:48Z

Great use of the running out of space theme! I really enjoyed the music and art style of this game. The gameplay was a bit confusing at first though, and it'd be helpful to have some sort of indicator on what squares were going to turn hostile before you stepped on them, and the same can be said for the enemy attacking mechanics. Overall, great work!

Backspace Bouken by Jake White 2018-08-17T03:07:21Z

Very clever use of the theme! I really enjoyed the art and music in this game. I would've appreciated having some sort of words per minute timer bonus to provide an extra amount of spaces I could use in battle. Other than the small punishment of not having enough spaces to effectively move forward if you haven't explored all the signs, I felt this was a very well put together game! Great work!

Cluster by Ignacio Zamorano 2018-08-17T03:16:05Z

Fantastic work with the art and animations in this game! The audio did get a bit too repetitive for my taste, but aside from that this felt very polished for a game jam. Well done!

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Hunger Sings by Swanijam 2018-12-14T04:31:58Z

This game looked fantastic! I really would like to see something in this style built out more. Great work!

Views by arnau 2018-12-14T04:56:57Z

Clean and simple game-play. I thought the bomb mechanic was a good touch. I would've enjoyed a bit more forgiving game-play, or at least an option to have floors that can be missed without ending the game. Overall, great submission!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Dark Soil by Pietro Ferrantelli 2018-05-01T00:58:17Z

I have nothing but great things to say about this game! Well done!

Astral Fantasy by PowerSpark 2018-04-29T17:48:07Z

Of all the turn-based RPG mash-ups I've played this Ludum Dare, this is my favorite. Game-play felt smooth and intuitive. I'd love to see this built out with music and more audio outside of this event's time constraints. Great submission!

Putt-Putt BOOM! by LandoSystems 2018-05-04T01:23:20Z

What a cool concept! This game was original, fun, and what it "lacked" in the audio department, it made up for it with comical genius! 5 stars!

Cowboys vs Aliens by nidup 2018-05-01T01:26:17Z

Fantastic art and audio in this game! Great submission!

Elite Beat Zombygons by Archimagus 2018-04-27T05:44:51Z

Easily one of the most creative and enjoyable rhythm games I've played! Great music, good art, and solid game-play. High marks all around! Well done!

Alida of Arx by jsmars 2018-05-04T01:09:25Z

Wow! For as ambitions as a game of this nature is, you pulled this off in 72 hours and you pulled it off well! Great work on the art, the voice acting, and all the fun little scripts that give a game like this character ! Wonderful submission!

Demon Dash by superpokeunicorn 2018-04-30T22:05:44Z

Loved the atmosphere you set in this game! The music and art felt perfect. I also really like the way your bullets animated, little details like that really pull everything together! Game-play felt tight and well put together! Great game!

Mortal Keybat by dob 2018-05-05T02:55:19Z

Great submission! This was a lot of fun to play! I wish you could skip through some of the dialog to get to the game faster though. Also, audio didn't seem to work on the HTML version, but great game overall!

Toodee and Topdee by dietzribi 2018-05-01T03:21:41Z

Very creative game-play! I really enjoyed having to switch back and forth between the two characters to solve puzzles. I really enjoyed this well thought out puzzle-platformer! Fantastic game!

RTHM by fashionbatman 2018-04-30T21:42:00Z

I got rejected by a girl named Gina after sending her a bunch of eggplant emojis, such realism! Lol jokes aside, this was one of the more amusing rhythm based games I've encountered. The music was good and the inputs were just forgiving enough that I can't blame the game for my lack of rhythm. Interesting genre mash up and great game overall!

Super Soup Slicer by chriiis88 2018-05-01T00:47:08Z

I appreciated that you took simple mechanics and found a way to make it challenging. Well done on this submission!

Go Green by oberynmartell 2018-05-01T03:14:14Z

The scope of your project is impressive! I think the game would've benefited from more of the block puzzles, which I felt were a great way to spice up this city-builder game! Great selection on music and I enjoyed the art as well. Good work!

CONFESSIONAL by Rodrigo Denúbila 2018-05-04T01:18:26Z

Interesting concept to control a character through a 3rd party's eyes. Good work on the animations! I would've liked to have seen more in the audio aspect of this submission, but overall great work for a game-jam!

Super Billiard Chalk by Remi Gourrierec 2018-04-30T21:52:22Z

Interesting and original mash-up you've created! I enjoyed the billiards style attacks quite a bit! However, I wasn't able to figure out how to get past the red winged enemies. A hint system would really be appreciated in this game! Overall, great submission!

Jump N' Shoot Man Ludum Dare 41 by jessefreeman 2018-04-28T04:12:51Z

Such great art in this game! The music become a bit much after a minute or two, and I did have some frustration when the game decided to spawn me directly to my death. But other than that, this game was well done and has a lot of potential!

Ritoru Ponpon no inu by Steing 2018-04-25T05:03:30Z

This game looks and sounds great! I like the concept for the timed movements, but I could have used some visual cues on where and when to move. Great submission overall!

Don't forget by Piller Yann 2018-04-30T06:36:33Z

I liked the music in the game, and your art was very unique! I don't think I've seen anything quite like that. I can tell a lot of time went into the dialog boxes, but not being able to manually click to the next frame was one of the larger issues I encountered in your game. Interesting play-through, good submission!

Psychic Dungeon by shohs 2018-04-25T06:20:38Z

Hey, I'd love to rate your game, but I'm having trouble launching the file using the zip posted in Dropbox. Any special tips on getting your game up and running? If not, maybe post some photos or a video of game-play so I can give you a rating on your submission!

Psychic Dungeon by shohs 2018-04-26T02:32:18Z

Hey it looks like you got the download fixed! Not sure if your original upload had audio, but some dungeon crawling music would really help the atmosphere in this game. I like the turn based mechanic, but it's difficult to map out several actions with minimal visual ques available. Maybe dialing down the number of actions you can take in each round to help lower the difficulty? Overall a creative submission, good work!

Infinite Typer by theamazingb 2018-05-01T03:30:02Z

I really liked the concept in this game! As it's been pointed out before, the difficulty scaling is a bit too much too soon. I'd like it to ramp up at a slower rate. Or better yet, let the player control the speed so we can have fun playing your game for a longer period of time! Or maybe I just need to get better at my typing skills lol.

Ballistic Skylines by invader 2018-04-30T20:31:05Z

Props on implementing a hot key to perform the same velocity shot as the previous, I thought that was a very smart mechanic to add to your game! The speed at which your bullets moved were a bit sluggish, but overall good submission!

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-04-27T05:31:17Z

Incredibly solid game-play! This puzzle element was so simple but so fun to play with! I wasn't sure if it was just my download, but I would've appreciated some audio in this game. Aside from that you got high marks all around! If there is audio working, and I'm just being an idiot, let me know and I'll adjust my score! Great game!

Groove Chase by Matt Pattabhi 2018-04-25T04:46:01Z

Hey @Matt Pattabhi great compo submission! I would have enjoyed seeing a difficulty adjustment option or different music to choose from perhaps. Also, the music ends before you reach the end of the game. Great job on the artwork and making the game-play smooth! This game definitely requires two hands to hit some of those combos. Great game!

Lunar Lander Lunacy by JoshyOshKenoshi 2018-04-28T04:28:50Z

I felt I was doing well with the quiz, but then I kept crashing lol. Guess I'm not as knowledgeable as I thought! Fun concept with this game, and I really enjoyed the art that was used as well! Great atmosphere in this game (pun intended). Good work!

Gouf & Goblins by ErikU 2018-04-27T04:53:23Z

This is one of the more unique submissions I've seen so far! I really enjoyed the golf mechanic to move the player around, and I thought the music was great as well. Something that I think the game would benefit from would be better visual cues when you are about to move your player, and maybe something for the enemy destruction as well. I also would like to be able to pan up and down with my camera, the vision felt a bit limited when on top of a constructed tower. This was a very unique and fun submission overall, good work!

Escape The Future! by Razorlance 2018-05-02T01:44:38Z

Fun little action game! I noticed some inconsistencies in the shield, there were multiple hits through my shield where I took damage. Aside from that no bugs that I was able to identify. I liked your hook for the music changing as you started the game. Well done on your submission!

Super Sweet Crispy Crunchy Crunch DX ( the final fight edition ) by Angry Squirrels 2018-04-28T04:40:38Z

Really glad I had a 2nd player to try this game out with! Multiplayer is where the game-play really shines in this submission. I thought the art and music was fantastic! How'd you pull this off in 72 hours?? I'm impressed! 5 stars!

Hadecken by La mecanique du plastique 2018-05-01T01:19:49Z

Incredibly polished game! The learning curve feels a bit steep to jump into, but there's an impressive amount of depth to this game. Good job all around!

Punch Rock Scissors by ryzy27 2018-04-29T17:21:17Z

Simple to understand and fun to play! Great submission!

Dropzone Mars by helpcomputer 2018-04-28T02:51:04Z

Great music and atmosphere in this game! I was a bit confused as to the objective and took me a few plays to figure everything out. This game could benefit from a brief tutorial. Great game overall!

CCC: Cyber City CAB by Yetman 2018-05-01T03:36:29Z

I had a lot of fun playing this game! I would've appreciated more visual feedback as far as where the closest pick up point was. Also the combat system is a bit clunky with how slow the turning is. I thought the 3D element for the buildings were really cool, and I liked the atmosphere set in the game with the music as well! Great submission!

Gnome Man's Land by Tim Ruswick 2018-05-05T03:09:59Z

Hey, I've watched quite a bit of your youtube uploads! Thanks for all the tips on game dev! I really enjoyed playing your submission. It was incredibly difficult, but that was one of the reasons I like it so much! Super tight game-play, great music, funny concept, and all around great game!

Stealth farmer by CrispyPear 2018-04-25T04:19:05Z

Interesting concept, but the game-play is blocked by a non-intuitive tutorial stage. Some directions either on your web page or in the game could go a long way here. Best of luck on your future games!

Dancing Club Bloodlust by SpaceMonkey 2018-04-30T21:00:51Z

Hey, I was told I was going to rage quit, but turns out this was actually a pretty fun submission! The "hit-boxes" for the arrow keys felt a bit off from the music, but maybe that's just my perception because I suck at rhythm games. "You need to train, kid!" Solid submission!

VRn't by Michael Clavell 2018-04-30T20:36:55Z

This game is hilarious! Very clever combination of two incompatible genres! Great art, great music, great game overall!

Bang Bang Revolution by Talonos 2018-05-08T02:17:37Z

I'm going to bookmark this and use this as a warm-up before I play Counter-Strike. Great job on this mash up of genres! I really enjoyed playing your game!

Honest Dan's Trout by Honest Dan 2018-05-08T02:34:01Z

Wow, great job on your game! Trying to control both things at the same-time made my brain hurt a bit lol. I might have to have another go at this with a player 2 to control the breakout ball! Put this on the app store!

Text Royale: The Ultimate Type or Death Fight by Rob White 2018-05-07T05:59:33Z

This is very well put together! Great work finding two incompatible genres! This game had a surprising amount of visual feedback for text-based game-play, which I really appreciated. Although, it wasn't quite clear on how to "attack" enemies. I'd try using a weapon I was equipped with only to shoot into the air, or if I used a grenade I would immediately die. A bit more instruction there would go a long ways. Overall, great game!

Peculiar Adventures of Dorothy Hops by detectiveLosos 2018-05-01T01:35:47Z

It's easy to see that an incredible amount of polish went into the art in this game. You even added great looking reflections, which was really cool! The jump mechanics felt snappy and responsive, but the game-play overall lacked due to limitations of the "choices" you make. I give up my sweet-roll, or I get stabbed. Not changed when making a decision one way or the other. Overall, this is a great looking game! Well done!

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-05-08T02:26:55Z

It's already been said above, but this moves a bit too fast at the beginning. Which wouldn't necessarily be a problem, except your available actions are RNG, and you learn the game, so to speak. A solid play-through requires a fair amount of luck. That being said, I really thought this submission was well put together! I enjoyed the art, music, and I thought you matched the theme very well by combining these genres. Great work on this project!

Haiti Kitty by Beebo Studios 2018-05-05T02:45:38Z

Funny game! I would've appreciated a bit more instructions in game, the batting didn't feel very intuitive. I still enjoyed this submission though. Good work!

Misty Night by sleepyGrin 2018-04-26T02:17:10Z

I really enjoyed the art in this game. I also thought the light emission behind some of your animations were a nice addition. The game play left something to be desired, but you had enough put into the art that I didn't mind starting over so much. Great submission!

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-29T15:59:36Z

I really enjoyed the concept for your combining 2 different genres! I think it would've felt a bit more natural if there were options to start, stop, and speedup the game directly from the keyboard. Overall great work!

Acid by vojtiman 2018-04-29T17:10:23Z

I really enjoyed the art style you developed for this game! I would've appreciated some visual feedback or animations for attacking and being hit, but considering the time crunch to publish this project things felt very well put together! Good job!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-25T01:24:48Z

Hey @Crispypear!

Thanks for your candid review! We appreciate the feedback, and will do our best polish out the inconsistencies you pointed out in our future work. I'll be sure to review your entry for the jam as well!

Thanks again!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-25T04:50:53Z

Thanks @matt-pattabhi

Gauntlet was definitely a major source of inspiration for this game! Glad you liked it, we are planning on taking this and trying to create something on a larger scale at a later date. Also, I reviewed your compo submission. Good work on your rhythm/racing game!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-25T05:23:08Z

Sorry about that @DeadlyMidnight

We focused on getting this game to feel smooth with an X-Box controller and didn't have time to code mouse and keyboard controls. Thanks for looking into our game though!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-25T06:06:54Z

Thanks for the feedback @shohs!

I agree that the difficulty is very steep if you are trying to play solo. Also, I think that providing the player more time to explore the crafting feature would be a great addition that wouldn't be too difficult to implement. How would you feel about a time slow mechanic when crafting instead pausing the game all together?

Thank again!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-26T02:05:07Z

Thank checking out our game @sleepyGrin! We had enough fun with this project that we might try to scale this into a larger game in the future! Also, I'll be sure to check out your submission as well. Thanks for the review!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-27T04:08:05Z

Thanks so much for the your feedback @eriku!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-27T04:13:59Z

Hey @Darby thanks for your review! I'm glad to hear you were able to experience the multiplayer aspect of the game! We definitely didn't have time to get the crafting system dialed in, but thanks for cutting us some slack!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-27T04:37:26Z

Sorry about that @MacDoom.

Unfortunately, our team did not have time to get any other inputs aside from an Xbox controller working correctly.

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-28T01:53:20Z

@ROBOWARRIOR1982 We actually watched some SMASH TV before we started working on this haha!

Would you be willing to go into more detail on what you mean by Binding of Issac maneuverability? Also, thanks on the tip! I agree that there should be separate modes of difficulty depending on how many players are in the game. Also, I'll be sure to leave your submission a rating, thanks for checking ours out!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-28T17:11:09Z

@ROBOWARRIOR1982 Interesting concept, thanks for going into more detail on that!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-28T17:12:36Z

@pond-loach You're right! We actually hand crafted the characters and the eye monster's but ran out of time and had to plug in something for the skull spawners! Thanks for the review, and you'll have some ratings coming from us soon as well!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-28T17:13:07Z

Thanks for the review @vilix64 I'll be sure to look into your entry as well!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-28T17:16:29Z

@piller-yann I agree, there needs to be more time to look over the crafting menu. If we decide to build this game out further, a feature for that will absolutely be implemented. Thanks for the review!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-30T06:15:48Z

Hey @deadlymidnight & @macdoom we just uploaded an online web version with mouse and keyboard inputs working correctly! If you want to check it out and let us know what you think, we would love your feedback!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-04-30T21:57:19Z

@SpaceMonkey Thanks a ton for your feedback and suggestions! The issues you described were a result of the time limitations for the event, but I agree that the game should be able to explain itself without external assistance.

I appreciate that you took the time to write out such a well thought out review! Thank you again!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-05-07T05:43:06Z

@Pond-Loach Thanks for checking out our game! There is a web version of the game available online at https://planeteightgames.itch.io/eyes-on-the-prize

It should be right at the top of the page, if you missed it!

Eyes on the Prize by phearbot 2018-05-07T05:46:38Z

Hi @rob-white, thanks for playing our game! It definitely got balanced in favor of multiple players, and in the spirit of Ludum Dare, we didn't re-balance anything after our the time-frame expired. I'll be sure to review your game as well!

The Tale of Rulers by Spaceface14Dev 2018-04-25T05:15:43Z

I liked the concept you started to create and would love to see more of this developed. The game-play felt similar to "Thomas Was Alone". Good submission!

I bet that your CATS look good in the dance floor by agar3s 2018-04-30T19:48:00Z

I liked the art and animations of this puzzle game! Interesting concept, but a bit of a steep learning curve on the first play-through. I'd also really like to hear some music plugged into this game. Fun submission!

A Carpenter's Tale by DeadlyMidnight 2018-04-25T06:26:05Z

This game has fantastic art and a good soundtrack to go with it. You did a great job of combining two "incompatible" genres in a very unique way.

Well done!

Typewriter Dungeon by Jaime Paz Lopes 2018-05-05T03:01:51Z

Nice concept! I thought this fit the theme very well! Great submission!

Gender Circles by EkkoEkko 2018-05-02T01:52:12Z

Fun submission! I really liked having to control two "players" at the same time. Original concept with a bit of comedic value as well lol. Also, great job on the music, felt very put-together!

KEYBOARD WARRIOR by croewens 2018-05-02T01:59:45Z

Interesting concept to add different keys for a fire mechanic. I really would've liked some audio and a bit more difficulty. Good submission overall!

Gun Appetit! by Nyunesu 2018-04-24T04:38:13Z

I really enjoyed the pixel art and the music transitions, it really tied the comical element together well! I will say the learning curve was a bit steep on creating/cooking the recipes. I felt punished by not being able to move my character while combining ingredients, and even more so when closing the cookbook/menu and reopening it to find that the ingredients I started to combine had been removed. Great job overall!

Tactical Hydra by MacDoom 2018-04-27T05:10:06Z

Oh man, this was a really challenging one for me! I couldn't get past two of the hydra heads on easy mode lol. Great theme all throughout the game. I really dig the art and music that was used for this project. As far as all the turn-based mashups I've seen this Ludum Dare, this is one of the more enjoyable ones that I've played so far! Great submission!

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-04-27T05:01:58Z

This is amazing! I was really impressed on how smooth everything looked and felt in this game. I really enjoyed the writing and fresh take on a point and click adventure. The monochrome color scheme also added a few points in your favor as well. Wonderful work!

Love The Boy! by juicensalsa 2018-04-28T03:18:11Z

I liked the idea behind this platformer/dating sim. Smooth controls, but I would like the options to have jump be on a different button. Also, I felt that this game could benefit from a death effect or something other than an immediate restart. Good job overall!

RPG Clicker by MercuryBD 2018-04-28T03:44:00Z

I was taken by surprise by how much fun this game was to play around with! I would've like to have seen different damage output depending on where you clicked on the monsters, but overall, fantastic game!

SHIRO NO OJO by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2018-04-28T02:32:26Z

I really enjoyed the art and polish this game had! Simple game-play but was very well done. Also, this is one of the few games I've got to play this Ludum Dare with an Xbox controller, which is really cool! Great submission!

Space Faze by Pond Loach 2018-04-29T06:34:08Z

I liked how easy this game was to pick up and understand, but still so enjoyable! I feel like I could spend a large amount of time playing this on mobile! You should consider porting it! If this game did not have a click-and-hold element I think it would feel a bit smoother, but other than that this was a great submission! Well done!

Jet Boy by Harry Light 2018-04-25T05:20:57Z

Smooth game-play and great art! I had fun playing this. The fact that you can jump right back into the action helps offset the difficulty of this game. Well done on your submission!

Way Out by Victor Lima 2018-05-03T05:47:02Z

Great polish on the game-play! I really appreciated the elements like an endurance bar, flashlight battery, gun-flash. Felt very well put together, and the environment was interesting enough to enjoy playing all the way through! Well done!
