LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Catch for cash by flip120 2017-12-05T15:17:20Z

The only problem I have with the game is the instadeaths. You should have made it possible to stay in the door and hide, so that you dont die instantly from going through the doors.

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Bloodshot by CrispyPear 2018-12-03T15:04:26Z

@tomcat94 Thank you for the feedback! There is a high skill ceiling in the game, as I made the difficulty match my skill in the game, which was constantly increasing. Imbalances are expected, though, as this afterall is a compo game.

Better explanations for the game will arrive soon. Can't be against the rules to edit the description post-compo.

Spaceship by Xavier Sellier 2018-12-03T18:49:55Z

Why is the html5 link a download? That defeats the purpose of html5. Use itch.io

The game isn't fun. The pieces the furthest away from the ship aren't any more than clicking and waiting, as there is no chance you'll make it back to the ship. Closer items are two clicks, but they often decrease to one click because of the hunger mechanic.

I like the idea of getting as many things as you can in one go, the problem is that the player spends so much time walking that he will not be able to get more than one thing each walk.

You sacrifice yourself for items. Hit the theme.

I love the graphics, and the mood is almost perfect. Just a shame there's no wind or any other sound. You've made a walking simulator, and hitting mood is important for this style of game, so good job.

Stepwise Massacre by Friend_Pirozhok 2018-12-03T17:20:19Z

I find the game very easy, and way to slow. I like how the game looks, but I feel the animations were too slow, and unnatural (Maybe add a few keyframes). Maybe spawn a few more opponent killers at a time, as one at a time didn't change my movement much.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Start with a Click by Maksim Chugunov 2019-10-07T17:19:51Z

Absolutely intuitive, and very satisfying. Great sound effects, and nice visuals. Only point you could improve on would be to make it more intuitive to move the blocks (but you know this). Overall great game!

Color Swirl by sansman01 2019-10-07T17:56:04Z

Moody! The first empty part made me excited to play your game. Love it. The game play itself is pretty hard with a trackpad but very fun. To improve the game checkpoints would be great, and maybe improve the visuals a bit, as I dont think pixel art fits the looks of your flare. You should otherwise dive deep into the mood of your game.

Locked by Nocity 2019-10-07T18:03:57Z

I love the audio. So satisfying. I wish it was longer, but that is in no way a negative. Great job! Hope you make more.

LD46 — Keep it alive

The game both looks and sounds incredible! Super chill game.

Heart Attack 万箭穿心 by Lunch 2020-04-21T08:28:32Z

Nice, juicy feeling parrying game. Looks super good, too :).

Save Your Wife! by Sparsha Dhar 2020-04-21T08:15:54Z

This is beautiful. I love the "Throw wife" mechanic. I am so confused as to why you picked up your wife though. She was never hurt in the cutscene? I love it anyways. Just adds to the feel. Also, the environment looks super good! Great job with the game, great stuff.

Keep Us Alive by Aroma 2020-04-21T11:15:18Z

Protect Egg. by devook 2020-04-21T11:23:54Z

This is incredible! Love it. Sounds good, and feels good. I only wish I knew more about egg. How was egg's childhood, and what is egg aspiring to become?

The Dream by THJSmith 2020-04-21T13:04:51Z

Nice game! I'm so confused!

LD54 — Limited Space

Diminutive Dungeon by Rose 2023-10-02T14:17:41Z

Nice game! This could easily be built upon to make a nice puzzler. Some points of feedback: There were no stakes, which made the game feel a bit boring at times. If I died, id just resurface with all my stuff, so I didn't have to think too hard. Resurfacing in general felt bad. I wanted to continue down until I couldn't, and the inventory system just felt like I died because I played well. Aside from all that negativity, I loved the artstyle. The game was intuitive, the colors splitting what each character could do was fun. This is already pretty great. With some difficulty scaling as you go deeper, and some more variation in puzzles, and some more juice, this could be really engaging. Hope your game does well!

Tetrominated by Peter Jonsson 2023-10-02T18:14:15Z

And here I thought I was being original when making a tetris variation with bombs! This is super cool! I like the scrolling mechanic, but the bombs felt like they didn't do much. I think boosting their effect could help a lot. Also the sound design needs a rework, the main moving sound is irritating. Loved the music though, and it looks really clean. Hope your game does well! Go team tetris!

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-02T13:55:01Z

@frogman I agree on the bomb part. The hitbox is actually a bit bigger than other blocks, so it is possible to hit them by shooting straight down right beside them. This is in no way obvious, and I wish I had time to work more on the bombs. The player being immune is a nice solution, might try it out for a post jam!

(also didn't have time to implement rotation. damn you gamejam time limit!!)

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-02T18:17:17Z

@qayndecim oh damn you're right! Thank you for commenting, I never considered that having the player be immune to bombs would let me make the bomb area bigger!

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-02T19:01:36Z

@sandra-c it's super fun (source: trust me)

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-02T19:34:42Z

@christian-zommerfelds yeah the music thing is very strange, has to do with how web gl handles sound I think. Alt tabbing makes the music jump forwards, so in the intro cutscene this might skip the music completely. Shooting downwards as a seperate key is a nice idea. I'll try it out for the post jam version

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-02T22:13:28Z

@supergamersgames Thank you for the feedback! The shooting down mechanic was indeed a way to make the game feel different from other tetris platformers, while at the same time trying to make the shooting mechanic serve more than one purpose. I found that I would either have to add some second button to the mix, or make shooting upwards impossible without a jump to add jumping. I think I prefer it as it stands, as it felt like a more satisfying jump when I got used to it.

As for the mixing, that has been added to my list of skills to learn. I never quite get it right. Thank you for pointing that out!

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-03T05:09:14Z

@duckwings ah that darn bounce of wall mechanic. The code's all there, but i never quite managed to make it work.

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-06T11:08:49Z

@fredspipa Thank you for your feedback! I like the idea of a charge shot to rotate pieces. I just might steal that. "Unnecessary difficulty" is also a really great phrase. Simple phrases like that make playtesting much more intuitive.

I absolutely agree that the inability to move pieces away from walls is unnecessary. I just found out that the bounce-off-wall mechanic I'd made to fix this didn't work because of ONE LINE OF CODE. Oh well, the post jam version of the game will have this issue fixed.

As for the shooting down to jump, I don't really find it unecessary, though I get how it might be frustrating for some players. It does raise the skill floor, but I found that it makes of for this in several ways:

Firstly, it reduces the amount of keys, as using W would make it impossible to shoot upwards without jumping. It also rewards landing on falling pieces, as you regain your ammo further up. It makes double jumps and triple jumps more intuitive, as the UI for ammo is already there. Lastly, I found it much more satisfying than jumping when I started mastering it, but that might just be a me thing.

Do you think adding an optional button that only shoots downwards might help? The button would basically work as a jump that also shoots a bullet. I've also made players immune to explosions, so landing on a bomb will no longer doom the player (which was absolutely unecessary difficulty).

Thank you again for your feedback, and for reading my wall of text.

Ghastly Tower by CrispyPear 2023-10-07T09:02:52Z

@human-writes-code Thank you for the feedback! I've gotten a lot of similar responses, so it seems the game has a difficulty problem. Shooting down does raise the skill floor, but it also: - Reduces the amount of keys needed (W to jump would make aiming upwards frustrating) - Makes the amount of available jumps more intuitive, as you can use the ammo UI to see how many jumps you have left - Rewards landing on falling pieces, as you regain the ammo used to jump at higher points - Feels way cooler than a jump when mastered (but that's super duper just my opinion) - Makes the game more replayable, as the skill ceiling is also raised considerably

I think reducing the difficulty in other ways is the way to go, giving the player time to learn the controls instead of being overwhelmed by them. In developing the post jam version, I've made the player invulnerable to bombs, made pieces stuck to walls bounce off when shot, and changed the difficulty curve a bit. Maybe simply adding a button that shoots down by itself might help mitigate the problem? It would in essence work like a jump button that also shoots a bullet, keeping the advantages of reduced ammo when jumping.

Let me know if you have any thoughts!

Going Up by Human Writes Code 2023-10-07T09:25:30Z

This is really funny! Great game! I love the artstyle, and the voice acting is perfect. Also really liked that characters changed poses when you picked them up. I'd like to second frogmans reply about highlighting the squares, or simply making the characters more blocky so they more obviously fill the squares. Tall guy is the worst offender here. At some points I didn't notice that a square was empty, so I was stuck for a bit. Also, making the characters snap to the middle of one of their "blocks" instead of the sprite might make it easier to place them. All in all a really great entry!

Give Me Money by kairuma 2023-10-02T11:27:56Z

You absolutely nailed the art, and more than that, the sound design is amazing! A super fun twist on the idle game genre. I sadly got tired of it before the third size upgrade. After the first couple of upgrades, there wasn't alot to do besides walking in circles and waiting. Somehow giving the player other actions needed to optimise the amount of money they gain might improve things - fixing machines and such. The level of polish is incredible though. Well done!

Space Phantasy XIV - Disc 5 by Frogravity 2023-10-02T17:54:46Z

Fuck yeah! Fuck yeah! This is so good! While statuses are super inbalanced and 5 stacks of fire means instant loss, i found it really fun to try to try to use that to my advantage. The fact that I could easily lose if I ended up with the wrong "friend" on the poison and fire type meant that every decision mattered a lot. It ended up becoming a weird kind of puzzle game. Also super funny! Looking forward to the 15 part game series following their kid. Lastly, I appreciate your honesty about fixing the bugs! That will definitely slightly boost your score on my part. Great job!

Ship of Theseus by teafish 2023-10-02T21:54:23Z

Could you upload the game as a zip file? Many won't bother to install a 7z unzipper when games are this plentiful (me included) but i'd love to try the game

The Carver by Cymusi 2023-10-02T11:09:27Z

Really cool mechanic! Nice and intuitive, really well done!

As it stands it's a little too easy for me, but it's still a lot fun. You could increase the difficulty by having the enemies spawn a little more spread out. At the moment you can kill most of the enemies with one wall as they spawn. Also, the wand moving the wall is a bit overpowered. Making it simply remove the wall should be enough. Difficuly could also be increased by having the wand have a much longer recharge time. The sound design could also use some work, especially the wand - it's a little too high pitched, and could use some punch.

Otherwise the game looks really nice. Limited palette pixel art is the way to go in gamejams, and you really pulled it off. There's a lot of potential here, I hope your game does well. Good luck!

Depths of Eonar by GreyNovemberGames 2023-10-02T13:25:50Z

tiny game.png The game is teeny tiny for me here on ludum. Send me a comment when you fix the itch.io page, then i'll try it out there!

Shrinking Space by Ruben Rosenmeyer 2023-10-02T22:00:40Z

I got a highscore of 1920! Wahoo! I like the game, and it 100% fits the theme to a tee! I have some feedback: The color scheme looks a bit confused - Using several high saturation colors will tend to do that. Having some calmer colors might offset that. You also kinda just wait for death in the last 20 seconds or so. Spawning more rings during the game might be a solution, but there's likely better ways too. Well done and good luck!

Under Trykk by Fredspipa 2023-10-02T21:45:30Z

The GOTM player works! You nailed the mood! Sound effects and visuals are on point. The lack of a point in the middle of the screen made it difficult to interact with the ship though, and I couldn't quite figure out how to stop imploding. If you give an explanation I'll try again and change my rating. Take down the ludum page game though, it's likely stopping people from rating.

Under Trykk by Fredspipa 2023-10-02T22:22:03Z

Bottle Royale by Nales 2023-10-02T21:24:59Z

Nicely done! Liked the spritework, and the concept was great! Would advise allowing WASD on browser games aswell, as arrowkeys made my browser scroll up and down. Hope you enjoyed ludum dare! For now that you've started, you can never leave!!! Muhahahahaha!

The Crater Village Game by September-XYZX 2023-10-02T21:36:47Z

I loved the X/O system you included! The coinflip adds randomness to solo play in a way that The Quiet Year lacked for me. I'll try it out when I can, this looks super cool!

DEFRAG-MENTOR by lucydango 2023-10-02T13:42:20Z

Fun! This had a cool twist on the theme, and great visuals! Speaking of theme, the computer theming of the game felt unique, and fit the genre really well. If you were to continue working on this, I'd recommend adding as much juice to the game as you possibly can, make the bullets bigger, and make the anti virus hit their targets a bit better. Also moving your windows during a match can be a bit overpowered in the early game, but balances itself out pretty quickly. Good job!

Sky's the Limit by clema 2023-10-02T10:48:12Z

Nice game! Played it several times, though I never quite managed to beat it (insert micheal jackson sounds).

The health boosts don't seem to work, so the +999 health upgrades does nothing. I thought i'd beat the game when I finally got that, but no dice. Otherwise I hope you listened to Lady angel about the TODO list. Restarting from level one makes sense, but having to listen to the dialogue every time is a bit irritating. Lastly, I rarely actually fought the slimes. Making them drop something might make fighting them more interesting.

Aside from that, I really liked the game! The music is nice and fun, and the art and colors look great. I hope you continue to make games. You've earned yourself a follower!

Sky's the Limit by clema 2023-10-02T19:39:52Z

@jellycopter hey thanks for the ping! The rating system wasn't up when I left my comment, so I can finally actually rate this!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Stop 'n Go Racing by DMajor 2018-04-24T14:56:04Z

The controlls are not responsive, so when you stopped turning, it would just keep on going to the previous direction. Controll over the car is the main reason people dont quit racinggames. Otherwise, the game would be extremely frustrating.

The pauses just ruined the game. It added nothing. I understand that the pauses were your main idea, but your idea should make your game better, not worse.

And dont just steal the example from the theme. This will harm your innovationscore.

Also, the car could be flipped, and the game would just keep on going.

Im sorry if this review was harsh, but you need to understand where you failed, to not repeat your mistakes.

Clidger by Mathiouza 2018-04-23T14:13:34Z

The enemies from the sides attacked to fast, and the tutorial repeated over and over. Just put me back in the action! You could have added a "Turn of tutorial" button. all in all, a pretty good game

Blitz Field by Jole 2018-04-23T13:53:21Z

The difficulty curve felt a bit off, and it was very hard to understand when the enemies would spawn. I would completely avoid picking up energy when you suddenly started spawning swarms of enemies.

This kind of game also relies on game feel, so use magnets to make the player have hundreds of energy pellets flying towards them when it kills the swarms. Make the enemies shoot out particles when they die.

Despite the problems, I enjoyed the idea, and killing enemies was fun.

I never had time to see if the finished game worked as intended. I wish I had, because of the press of a button would have fixed the tutorial problem. The ladder was just bad design.

I appreciate your feedback. Future tutorials will be better, thanks to you

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-25T13:38:28Z

I think this game would benefit from always having one of each power, and only randomize placement. Maybe even randomize while the player is looking? (With signaling)

The cooldown was a bit to long too.

Still, I loved the music, credits, graphics and idea.

Hey there! Rating incomming. Please return the favor.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/stealth-farmer

Rating: Crafting didnt work. You didnt see what you were able to craft. Additionally, you didnt have time to see what different powerups did. This game should have had some kind of tutorial.

The game was a bit ugly. You didnt pick a style, and there where pixelart mixed with digitalart. You should pick a style, dont start mixing.

Still, this was a good game. I played several rounds of this too find the bads in it.

And its great that you made it singleplayer playable. Otherwise you wouldnt have gotten this rating

Trophy Defense by August1413 2018-04-24T15:46:59Z

I was dissappointed to realize this wasnt the greatest game of all time.

The player was too small, and the turret rotation too sensitive, making it hard to aim. And no sound effects.

Hive and Honey Horticulture by Sarah 2026-04-21T20:13:01Z

This was really great, and sooo, sooo polished. What do you mean I can pick the colors of the walls and floor? What do you mean there's so many upgrades that you have to scroll? The feedback I have is too much to expect from a jam game, but I found it tedious when I wanted to buy several pots or flowers at once. I also wish there was a way to sell several items at once. Lastly I found the button for Ms. Beehive to always be in the way.

I could really see this being a mobile game that would do well. Well done!

Really cool game, though the signal fades so quick I've barely halfway written something before it's gone. That turns it into more of a memory game than anything else. I played a few rounds, but only scored 100% when the graphs were exceedingly simple, like tan(x). Great visuals by the way!

Jim's Quest for Birthday present by Sobigdrasil 2026-04-24T10:58:04Z

Awesome artstyle and such a vibe! Really nice incremental game too, very animal crossing! My main complaint, much like in animal crossing, is that I wanted more variation in the main task in the game. Digging up stuff was always fun, but it feels like you could easily add another layer of complexity to make it way more engaging. For a jam game though, this is very impressive and such a nice entry. Wish you good luck!

Alien Registry by ipomelo 2026-04-21T16:07:53Z

Hold The Signal by Dywanix 2026-04-21T16:50:34Z

I couldn't place another tower even after multiple rounds. Are there any controls i'm missing? I'll hold my rating until I know

Hold The Signal by Dywanix 2026-04-21T17:14:33Z

Cool game!

Making a tower defense in such a short amount of time is no small feat. I do wish the connection to the theme was a little stronger though. The part with the player having to move around to maintain the signal is great, but I wish it was built upon more. Currently the player pretty easily fills up the bar completely, and then interacts with the mechanic every once in a while. How could you make it more relevant throughout the game?

Wish you good luck!

ACEspionage by LetsSnack 2026-04-21T19:48:10Z

Farewell by Termegus 2026-04-21T17:08:48Z

When I saw that this was an incremental game, I didn't expect to stick with it, but the vibes just dragged me in. The fact that the fireworks keep crashing low is also great to retain players, as it makes it sooo satisfying when the perfect launch finally comes. Great job!!

Great graphics, soundtrack and vibes, and cool puzzles! Really well done! There were some pain points:

Sometimes I pressed an arrow key and had to finish a random dance, making sure not to move away. In the beginning I also misunderstood the position of the bees, thinking they were one tile diagonally further up. I saw the dropshadow at some point, but I wish it was easier to see.

Wish you good luck!

Great and really funny concept! I enjoyed it all the way through. And oh god it's gorgeous. Even the pause menu has incredible personality. Really well done!

Some pain points: I didn't quite get how to get the waiter's attention at first, so when I'd finally written SOS, i just kinda sat around. The mechanic with her looking away could also use some extra player feedback, so we understand that it has a mechanical impact. Stuff that feels painfully obvious to the creators tends to be missed! Sometimes I dropped fries only to see that they neeearly matched with the intended shape, but not completely. I think the fry placement could use some work, as that part of the game feels a little tedious.

You should be really happy with the submission! Such a polished and interesting game in such a small timeframe is no small feat!

This is so good, I'm so impressed. I adore the world you created, the atmosphere is so incredibly strong. Really well done.

Really nice, well polished and fun! Two pain points: I wish the day didn't reset to the start each time I lost, and I don't understand the decision to hide the shredder. Both critiques don't matter much when assessing the entire game though. The atmosphere was fantastic. I loved the little clips that played, and the voice acting was perfect. Really cool game, I'm impressed!

Hello? Hello!? You've got no signal there! by rainot 2026-04-21T16:33:12Z

Really cool! The static effect on the voice was really effective, but the way you implied static on the subtitles really impressed me. Mega creative, it really felt like i was reading staticy text.

The "story" was really funny. I'm out here dodging boar-hunters and the actual rain using information relayed through a friend's "Find my phone"?? Genius!

I had a lot of fun playing this one, well done! Wish you good luck!
