I love the idea! It is a shame that there was a strange bug where I couldn't see the main character. I would love to see more of this with a way of scoring how well the replica is.

There were a lot of problems with the gameplay itself, but I enjoyed the idea a great deal.

Very fun idea, not much to the stealing but fun to try to replicate the art. Horribly in my case. https://i.imgur.com/LK2sZYN.png

@Lamasaurus ok, interesting... Mind telling us details of the system you were running on? Prebuilt binary or compiled by yourself?

@totalaj Yeah, we ran out of time :(. Hopefully after the jam we will continue it more.

Great game Rest! You did well on this one. It would be even better if you had made the player turn around on an arrow key press. Very enjoyable, though, especially the painting part!

I would love it if you also rated mine: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/hexguess

Im definitely becoming a full time artist now. This drawing is perfect

I loved the idea, but the game seems unfinished. If you become a faster programmer, I think you could make great games with your current ideas

@CrispyPear I'm not sure it's about programming speed... We had a lot of issues with the collision library we were using (quite weird ones) that limited our resources. I agree, it is completely unfinished.

It is a fun game..... for artists like me. I spend like half an hour to paint myself lol. Mind to check our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/daxua

It's reminding me of a certain Mario Party mini game ! But I think, if you ever wat to complete it, you can skip the platforming element and make it a game fully focused on replicas, it's funny and something I wish I could see completed. The genre mixing feels a bit forced.

Good idea ! I'd love to see your game more finished. In the meantime, I had some pleasure doing my own little replica.

@5you hey, thanks for the constructive criticism! What do you think was wrong with the genre mixing? Ideally I do want it to be a game mechanic. I agree that we did it very poorly and we could definitely improve it a lot. Any ideas or suggestions? The intended genre mix was stealth/painting, not platformer/painting.

5you 2018-04-24 18:22

@Restioson I think that the very core idea about mixing genre is that they have to be closely intricated to work together otherwise it just feels like two diferent games. Here I can only see the stealth part (even if rafined) as a time constraint : "draw a piece of art before the guard sees you". And maybe you could prepare some kind of trap or whatever to gain some time. And I guess that with some imagination you could fine other funny constraints.

The 'draw before you get caught' idea was what came to mind for me, too. That would be a pretty amazing way to replicate the stress of art school assignments. :P

mathijsvissers 2018-04-25 17:22

Love this stuff, reminds me of passpartout. Heres my attempt: artsmajor.png

@MegRabbit @5you thanks for the feedback! We'll think about adding some kind of 'draw before you're caught' mechanic or something similar.
