Great music!… but I got a fatal error on startup and ended up jamming in front of a black screen:
``` ERROR: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at SceneController.Transition(Action midTransition, Action postTransition) in […]\SpaceFantasyXIV\Scripts\GodotUtils\SceneController.cs:line 78 at SceneController.TransitionToScene(String name) in […]\SpaceFantasyXIV\Scripts\GodotUtils\SceneController.cs:line 88 at SceneController._Ready() in […]\SpaceFantasyXIV\Scripts\GodotUtils\SceneController.cs:line 30 at Godot.Node.InvokeGodotClassMethod(godot_string_name& method, NativeVariantPtrArgs args, godot_variant& ret) at SceneController.InvokeGodotClassMethod(godot_string_name& method, NativeVariantPtrArgs args, godot_variant& ret) in […]\SpaceFantasyXIV\Godot.SourceGenerators\Godot.SourceGenerators.ScriptMethodsGenerator\SceneController_ScriptMethods.generated.cs:line 59 at Godot.Bridge.CSharpInstanceBridge.Call(IntPtr godotObjectGCHandle, godot_string_name* method, godot_variant** args, Int32 argCount, godot_variant_call_error* refCallError, godot_variant* ret) ```
I'm on Linux Mint 21.2 x86_64 xfce with an integrated GPU.
I love Phantasy Star so I played your game. It wasn't Phantasy Star, but that's ok, what is, really? Good work, nice art, keep on keeping on with your writing, some of those jokes landed pretty well. I got to the final form and lost, the burn debuff that landed on me early on seemed really OP and harassed me through the whole fight. Otherwise, good show.
I really want to play this game, but I'm getting the same error as @cagibi on linux :frowning2:
I tried both Linux binaries.
Awesome little game! Very creative and fun, in one of my playthroughts I got a bug where my character becames basically immortal taking 0 damage from every attack.
Only made it to his third form, but I still really enjoyed it. The art is good, the music is appropriately dramatic, and the dialogue had me grinning with every line. I never actually got past the first disc of Final Fantasy VII, so I'm just going to assume this is how it ends.
Hey @cagibi & @binroot, really sorry about the broken Linux build! I tried rebuilding it from another PC, can you maybe check if it works now? I don't have a Linux machine to test it...
@madjackmcmad - Thank you! Glad you liked the writing! Yeah, the Burn status ended up being too powerful, but I realized that too late... Oh well, at least you reached the final form!
@cleitoneldorn - Thanks! Each planet resist one element, could that have been the cause? Nevertheless, the game felt a bit too hard for me, so an invincibility bug is a plus I think :)
@john-gabriel - Thank you! Happy you liked it so much! I can confirm that this is indeed how Final Fantasy VII ends, as someone who never finished it either :)
I loved it! What a touching story to read and a fun puzzle to solve. I didn't encounter any issues and had a blast playing the game.
My strategy was Venus Saturn Mars Mercury and I finished off with Earth. But it took me 4 tries (I think) to come up with this strategy, the boss fight is quite tough.
I guess the game doesn't fit the theme that well, but there are some hints to it and you've done a great job nevertheless!
Looking forward to Star Phantasy XV
Fuck yeah! Fuck yeah! This is so good! While statuses are super inbalanced and 5 stacks of fire means instant loss, i found it really fun to try to try to use that to my advantage. The fact that I could easily lose if I ended up with the wrong "friend" on the poison and fire type meant that every decision mattered a lot. It ended up becoming a weird kind of puzzle game. Also super funny! Looking forward to the 15 part game series following their kid. Lastly, I appreciate your honesty about fixing the bugs! That will definitely slightly boost your score on my part. Great job!
It's working now, thanks!
The fight was tough for me too, but I enjoyed coming up with various tactics anyway. And that's certainly the best banter I've ever read in this ludum dare.
Love it. The humor is on point, lots of fun ideas and references(When do we get the comic spinoff where we learn the full story behind why Phesithor only has one wing???). Gameplay is solid, and graphics are consistent. My only problem is the use of the theme seems a little vague... Awesome entry though!
Great game. The dialogue is excellent and the character art is very funny. The music suits the epic space fighting perfectly. I have to admit that I was pretty bad at the game and, yes, I am responsible for the destruction of Earth through my poor in-game decisions. But, I had fun in the process, so that's something!
Great job!
@woona - Thank you! Glad you liked the story! That's a cool strategy I didn't think of (the one I found was Mercury Venus Mars Saturn Earth) - it's great to know that there are multiple ones!
@crispypear - Wow, thanks! Yeah, the OP statuses & puzzle elements weren't really intended - I just never played the game normally until submission hour - but I'm happy with how it turned out & glad you liked it!
@cagibi - Glad that it works now & happy you liked it!
@masterofcheese - Thank you! My take on the theme was supposed to be "Space got Limit'ed" (as in Limit Breaks), but yeah, it's not the best.
@human-writes-code - Thanks! Happy you had fun! And we are all responsible for the destruction of Earth :)
Happy to report no technical issues over here on Ubuntu 20.04. Good job with the game, it feels very complete in all dimensions, which is rare, I think.
Man that took a lot of play throughs, but finally success I might have the Venus, Saturn, Mars, Mercury comment. Though even missed a couple of opportunities for the extra buff.
Oh I am pretty sure he killed earth man with an attack or two after someone died but never got credit for it lolz.
Phesitor noooooooooo!
I love this, I was completely on board starting with the first dialog until the very end. Laughed out loud every time a new fighter or Phesitor form came on screen. My favorite was the power of toxic relationships, absolute gold. I'm a huge fan of JRPGs, so I also loved all the references too. Finally the single wing lore we always waited for. And of course the LIMIT BREAK take on the theme, immediately made me chuckle. Played through it about six times or so before I got my win, I loved slowly figuring out what weaknesses the different forms have and which warriors best counter it. It was a close call near the end, I got lucky that poison cannot deal the final blow, I was at 0 HP and poisoned but it did 0 damage luckily. Exciting nailbiter! Felt super well-balanced, just the right mix of challenge but not so hard that it felt unfair, awesome job there! Graphics were lovely as well, all the different player characters had a great deal of personality in their designs. Same for the sound, I felt it fit incredibly well. Just a super fun game, had a great time with it, great job!
@zirrrus - Thanks!
@indivicivet - Waiting for you to come back then :)
@henk - Thank you, and it's great to hear that the Linux version is working properly!
@zealous-coder - Happy that you managed to beat it! Yeah, status effects cannot kill you to prevent Earth from dying & causing a game over immediately after using a limit break.
@captaindreamcast - Thank you so much! Super happy you liked so many parts of it!
Well polished and fun game to play! Don't play a lot JRPGS but do recognize some of them, love the dialogues. The music and sfx also make me feel I'm on an epic fight with the final boss. Great job!
Fun game! interesting puzzle trying to figure out what to do to win. A little rough having to go through all the dialog again when you retry, but didn't deter me from finishing the game. Very entertaining!
Grand humorous take :) Not really something to do with the theme, but who cares. It's fun, and with a little help from the comments I made it to the last form. Really well done!
This Is InCredible!!!! What an AMAZING game!!!!!! Damn that got me pumped. It's well written, funny as fuck, gorgeous art and music, got a clever mechanic that gets you thinking, satisfying when I actually beat it, plot twist that I *absolutely didn't see coming...* (sorry they had too much chemistry it was obvious!!) I have to say this is the first perfect entry I've played. Actually, one thing is that I'd like to be able to skip the text I'd already read, but skipping manually wasn't that difficult and didn't detract from the experience. What a joy, you did very good.
@passbykamenrider - Thank you!
@t-c - Thanks! Yeah, the lack of an ability to skip dialogues was my biggest regret this jam. Happy to hear that you beat it regardless, though!
@endurion - Thank you!
@fupi - Thank you so much for the comment & sketch, really made my day! I'll definitely add a way to skip dialogue next time :)
Even with the hints, this was pretty tough. I don't have much to write that I haven't read above. That music is so good for this game. Keeps the adrenaline flowing as though Phesithor wasn't waiting so patiently for me to make a move. Nailed the jrpg-styled art. Entertaining dialogue with a sob story. It's ripe for a sequel. Really well done.
Not sure if it was a bug, but I became immortal when I was at 0 health and I progressed a phase. To fix I just used the LIMIT ability.
Game is simply great! Story in fun, art is nice, music fits well... Awesome job!
