This game is cool but the controls are poorly indicated, it's complicated to play: / I love the graphic aspect and the music

I was impressed with what the game did with its concept! I didn't end up playing all the way through, though, because it started feeling repetitive very quickly. Most of the time seems to have gone to combat encounters but I'm not convinced that that's the best way to leverage this mechanic. What if the game were about puzzles where erasing parts of the text opens and closes locations, replacing the switch puzzles you usually find in dungeon crawlers? And then tying that in with some kind of "the walls are closing in" type of thing where you can trade letter space for physical space?
Hey, that's a nice game you have here! Loved it.
This is one of the more unique approaches to this theme I have found so far. It has humour, amazing graphics and feel and is easy to play. Congrats on your result!
It's kinda stupid, but fun. good job :)
Play my game too! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/pre-alpha-build
interesting idea! killing enemies but talk about them! but! where is the theme? XD
@rs11s21n the theme is running out of space, our game's theme is running out of spacebars
@jake-white -_O
@triplefox This is very fair. If we do more work on this, I'm definitely going to keep this comment in mind. Thanks for the feedback!
@camcam Glad you enjoyed the graphics and music. Sorry we forgot to mention the controls on the page. We'll update to reflect that. We kind of assumed some fluency within dungeon crawlers when we probably shouldn't have lol.
Reminds me of the old dungeon crawler games. I like the graphics and characters.
I like the gameplay, somewhat force the player to read the story. its and interesting idea i might use someday.
Good job
A typing game? Interesting concept. The story was intriguing but I was a little confused by the mechanics, the whole 'spacebars' thing didn't really click with me. The graphics were nice and the music was very atmospheric and helped add to the experience. I'm not sure what this had to do with the theme, but it was a unique take on it regardless.
@historymaker118 the theme is running out of space, our game’s theme is running out of spacebars. thanks for the feedback!
I loved it. That was quite the witty theme interpretation. Well done :)
This is definitely my favourite entry so far! I'm a sucker for first-person dungeon crawlers (did one for LD41) so naturally I had to play this. The visuals were excellent, the audio was fantastic (loved the last dungeon's music) and the gameplay was cool, fun, and original. Funny dialogue from the signs and enemies! Love the blessed angel that is the chicken wing! Amazing work! 5/5
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
@larryseinfeld Thank you so much! Happy to hear you enjoyed it so much (and noticed that dungeon music, which I'm especially proud of haha)! Hope you might be willing to follow our future work, as this may have been a positive enough experience for us to make this a bigger and cooler thing!
Pretty clever idea! Really nice job, typing mechanics always gets me :)
Heh really nice idea and use of the theme. Cool graphics and sound, too. Overall this is a pretty nice game.
Very nice use of the theme. I liked the retro dungeon crawling style, and weird enemy types. Great job!
Wow I really like it, the idea that you can gain backspaces from picking up the signs but you have to remember what the signs say... GREAT IDEA! I am going to keep this game around and practice my typing with it. Liked the sound and the environment, very innovative game, thank you!
Very nice game, cool mechanics and fun gameplay with fun characters, good one.
That was a brilliant idea with a lot of humor, a really polished realization avec a good mood and atmosphere. Really enjoyed the experience and innovation ! Well done !
I liked that game. It's true that the gameplays feels repetitive though, but since it's pretty short that's not too bad. I liked humorous touch and the retro style feels good ! One remark though, it is possible to enter a combat without enough spaces, and, if this happens, it's game over, the thing is you can't know in advance how many spaces you're going to need. It wasn't a problem in my playthrough though as I was always trying to get all the signs before opening a door, but I get the feeling that could feel frustrating for someone who would die this way (as the amount of spaces needed for a same class enemy can change, there is no way, from what I've seen at least, to know if you're ready or not, and you may enter and spend a little time in a combat you stood no chance to win in the first place).
Well, as I said it wasn't a problem in my playthrough so maybe I'm dwelling to much on this x).
The game felt good to play, I liked the retro aesthetic, keep it up!
Very clever use of the theme! I really enjoyed the art and music in this game. I would've appreciated having some sort of words per minute timer bonus to provide an extra amount of spaces I could use in battle. Other than the small punishment of not having enough spaces to effectively move forward if you haven't explored all the signs, I felt this was a very well put together game! Great work!
One of my favorites. Soundtrack was excellent! Humor was on spot. Absolutely loved the use of contractions to save extra spaces. Brilliant all around.
Great work guys, really enjoyed the game.
I was actually tossing around the idea of doing a grid-based dungeon crawler for this event since I just replayed some classics. I'll have to peek at your code and see what approaches you took. I'd be interested to read a post-mortem if you guys write one.
@quicklyer Thanks! The code is pretty sloppy and has some hardcoded stuff that really shouldn't be, but feel free to look! :P standard ludum dare quality code. And I've been thinking about a postmortem, but also might continue the project ;)
