Beautiful animations - great stuff.
Very slick, great job. The lighting and music are nice touches.
Really enjoyed your game, esp the room layouts and items/abilities, and descending down each floor. Very playable and fun, and great isometric style.
It did freeze (in different places) a couple of times, not sure why (Mac/Chrome).
Very nice game. Theres more to it than meets the eye, the control of the boat and spear are not the simple approach you might expect.
Fantastic design and atmosphere. I'd like to see the idea expanded, with more things to collect and fight. Very impressive.
Loved your game. It is indeed really tough, but I hear thats cool these days... :)
Great retro graphics and very playable.
That jetski is fun to control! Nice job.
Very enjoyable game, controls are spot on, and the artstyle is great.
Great game, very fun to explore!
I really enjoyed controlling the sub - give me enemies to bomb and this would be awesome!
This is great! The momentum is a little high, but I quite like it that way. You designed some really good levels too. The background was bonkers crazy, but I think this is a key feature... And, that ending :|
Love the art, and very satisfying to play/control. Top job!
Really enjoyed this, interesting quirky style, and some very nice enemy formations and progression.
Highly polished game, and fun to play. Very impressive.
This is brilliant! Great concept, and fiendish level design. The concept really works well.
Great game (if a little difficult). Love the animations, and music.
Loved this, it plays really well. The control/motion of the worm feels right to me.
If you can add a few more game elements/levels, that would be awesome.
Controls are a little tricky (not quite intuitive), but definitely a great effort, and could be developed further.
Great game, very well made. I'd like a way to continue my destruction and extend the time :)
Very interesting concept.
As others said, perhaps with smaller introductory levels first, and hints, could be a very unique game. Great job!
Enjoyed your game, I think the use of light for powerups is very cool, and perhaps it could focus even more on that aspect.
I reached 9 miles - and become quite good at reverse controls. I thought collecting another wheel would reverse it, but...
Fun game, very playable. I like the progression of each level (more than I expected at first).
Thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated :)
@Mincemeat Yeah, having the other birds also eat food was the very last thing on my list, but its kind of funny to line up a combo then lose it :D
@Lerc - agreed, the art got so low res that it can be confusing, esp similar colors.
@madhoe - agreed, I could have items/creatures breaking thru the surface or something.
I released it iOS and Android, for those who can't get enough stroppiness. Its basically the same game, but with added medals and game center. Byeee!
Would love to try this, mac/win ideally (else, will try to do a linux build).
Finally got round to playing it (built the mac version) -- loved it! Very playable mechanics - I thought the shooting/jumping was almost spot-on. The shader effects really give it a great look. Level design was good, and I liked encountering the different characters.
I also got a bit confused with the looping-back mechanic (but I am usually kinda bad at these games), maybe an extra hint or 2 would suffice?
Great job, one of my favourite entries so far.
Wonderful game, with excellent art. A little too hard (for me) at the start, perhaps make it a bit easier at the start?
Fantastic - great controls, graphics and sound. Lots of nice little details, like how the people run to the chopper :)
Excellent. Very well executed concept. Love the minimalist style too.
Great fun! Level progression is done really well too. Very original art style, perfect.
Excellent concept, and I love the art and sfx. The game is a bit too hard for me, I really wanted to progress more..! Top job though.
Great concept + execution.
Love it! Simply fun to play. Good difficulty level too, lets you learn the rules.
Very cool concept, and it plays nicely, great job!
You could do many fun things with this concept; e.g. if both tracks were *almost* the same you could flip between them to avoid obstacles or overtake other cars.
Very cool! The music and beat really work well. This would be good as a quick-play mobile game.
Ooh, this is a fun little game! The level progression is nice, adding one planet each time. My tactic is always sacrificing planets from the start :)
Very clever concepts. Hurt my brain, but in a good way ;) Great job.
Oh, thats a super fun + crazy game! And the music matches it perfectly. I didnt read the instructions to start with, and the resulting chaos was very very funny!
Nice concept, very cool presentation and feedback. Sneaky title too :)
Oh wow, this is excellent. Would take me a year to make this! [The only thing I would change is the music perhaps, I'd go for something more ambient and mysterious?].
@ClownAround yeah, I wanted to introduce new game mechanics but it didn't quite work out (see post mortem). Graphics are a bit different, but so hard to make :P Next time - pixel art!
Thanks for playing, everyone. I don't know why I made such a strange game(!?), LD makes you try something different. That 'PT' teaser def messed with my head :P
(oh, and I'm working through as many of your games as I can, reviewed 65 so far...)
Great concept!! Perhaps make it a bit more challenging at the start - the game is best when its challenging you.
Very enjoyable game to play, with interesting level design and ideas. I played the simplified version :)
Very enjoyable shooter! Controls excellently. + the audio really brings it together. The final theme/boss was cool to discover. Great entry.
Very enjoyable (and a fully complete game). Like you say, there are more tactics than you think! Reminds me a little of Deus Ex hacking?
Brilliant little game! Good controls (well, its supposed to be tricky) and beautiful presentation. How you made this in the allotted time I will never know.
Fun, and plays really well. Nice art style.
[Hi - I get an APPCRASH as soon as the window appears. 64 bit Win7. Games looks v interesting, look fwd to playing I hope]
Loved it! Very playable and fun. The canon and powerups are great additions.
Cool concept - love maths :) Very satisfying feedback when clicking. could be a great mobile game too.
Love this one! Fully embraces the 'one screen' theme, and very playable, tight controls. 5/5 from me :)
Wish I could progress further (sry!), but either way I LOVE what you've achieved here with the art style + atmosphere (and clever use of theme). Great job! An easy 5/5 for mood and graphics.
Wonderful! great job on the retro style. Its really playable too.
Fun game - gets nice and challenging.
Very imaginative and puzzler, excellent style and gfx. Great to see something this original in the jam.
I whipped him. Then things got really nasty :P !
Fun game!
Super game. really like the changes in motion of the enemy waves. Amazing what you can do with just blobs - it looks great!
[Avira reports 'TR/Dropper.gen' in the zip download. ?]
Brutal difficulty, but so well done! Great game.
Great use of theme, and very stylish.
I actually love the 'heavy' inertia here, v interesting to plan your route. Very enjoyable.
And no, I can't complete 20 levels at all ;) (would be nice to 'cheat' and continue my game?).
Great game! Some very imaginative mechanics and animation.
Great use of theme, very enjoyable. Really like the art style.
Thanks for the comments and feedback!
I agree that goal-based levels/progression would be cool, but you know... 48 hrs :P So, had to keep it simple.
Physics were a bit tricky - the player wants to move fast but it caused glitches if too fast. Certainly can be improved though.
I'll do a post-mortem today, but audio is something I always leave to the last minute. It needs more yells and screams!
@rzfmzn - oh crikey, I actually had blood splats ready, but decided against it :D Didn't want it to look toooo cruel...
@ainokaisa - nice, my best was 4100... beaten at my own game ;)
@Jupiter_Hadley - thanks for the awesome video! The controls are fiddly to start with, I know.
@SeriousDeath - I never allow enough time for audio, and Sfxr produces harsh sounds, I agree.
Will upload full post-mortem later today.
Awesome! Gets brain-twistingly tough, but a great game. Sound + graphics are excellent too. 5/5 from me.
Great game, very playable, and most importantly FUN! Attention to detail (like the heads etc) makes a big difference. Funky music gives it a cool feel.
I'd like the worm to bend a bit, and maybe add some extra dangers underground, and a perhaps some goals/target. I hope you continue updating it.
I didnt really expect anything so original from the screenshot -- the game mechanic here is brilliant! One of my favorites so far, great job. 5/5.
Really well implemented idea, very slick.
As Yaroslav said above, it would be cool if the game screen had a little more to it, more interaction.
Excellent! one of my favorites.
Really cool idea to combine these elements!
A simple game, but rather enjoyable! It does what it set out to do. Path finding works well. I like the mechanic/strategy. varying the level layout would be good.
All-round excellent game! The mechanic is really satisfying, makes a change from regular shooters. 5/5 from me.
Surely wins the cutest game award! Expertly made, I hope you continue with these (mobile versions?).
Love this one! Simple idea, but implemented really well. Controls and movement are excellent.
Great fun, and excellent snow effect.
Great idea. And, yes, kinda creepy?!
I really admire entries that fully embraced the theme (I struggled this time).
Great idea and implementation. Love the graphics + audio too :)
Didn't expect such a slick game - plays so well! The malfunctioning tank idea is very original - tho I did find it pretty difficult(!).
Very clever puzzler, cute style too.
Excellent game - lots of good tactics to use. You nailed the retro art style ;)
This is very original + fun! Controlling the shot is a little tricky, but thats also part of the charm.
Awesome - one of my faves.
Really well done game, with lots of nice attention to detail. Great use of the theme. Moody music.
[PS had to swap your openal32.dll for another one on my machine to get it to run. Win7]
Great game - very playable, tight controls. Top job!
Awesome concept, and plays well.
Super-cute. I know you ran out of time, but I reckon this is sooo close to being a very cool game; the 2-item control thing is strangely satisfying, and it fits perfectly with the salt/pepper idea.
Terrific game, wonderful art. The cat is just awesome.
I kinda wish I could control placing of items a *bit* better (to barricade myself in?), but maybe I just suck :P
Very relaxing game - great job!
[wasnt always sure if my colour was matched?]
Whoa - beautiful game!
My favorite so far - love it!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Have posted a short post-mortem on the main page.
@ccglp I got 5080 today :) Yeah, its a bit like some other games, but not completely I hope!
@pixelballoon & @Ossi - I did mess around with the physics settings etc, hard to say what is an ideal setup.
@Jupiter_Hadley - thats awesome! I got in early this time :)
Yeah, game had to be simple due to time. Am wondering if the jam might suit me better than the compo next time (but I do prefer to do all art etc myself).
@fixitteam - very kind. Will throw it onto mobile asap. Any ideas for power-ups?! I struggled with the new particle system, will replace explosion etc.
Fun game - turns out there are actually some tactics to pooping..! Cute graphics. Nice job.
I found the controls a little floaty perhaps, could tighten that up.
Very playable and fun game - great job.
This is really great - very ambitious to try a stealth game. Love the graphics + audio, and excellent use of theme.
This is great fun! The controls are v smooth, you can actually fight :D
I knew from the title and screenshot this would be awesome! Great entry.
I agree with @factorial that the control wasn't obvious to start with.
Very enjoyable and playable. Maybe could make more use of the weapon types, but its great fun.
Really nice idea, and very well presented. I can see this expanded to a full game - wanted some trickier levels to try!
[I had trouble with some controls, e.g. how the turret realigned itself].
Really fun - kudos to the artists especially, great cartoon characters.
Tons of fun - this turned out great!
Great fun. Excellent pixel art and style.
This is great - the multiplying tribbles was a really good use of the theme. It controls well, and you designed the levels very well, just challenging enough. As mentioned above, perhaps the only unfair bit was dying to tribbles in front of the door. Sneaky blighters. Great LD entry, thanks for making it.
Thanks, @frozenfire92  I have a list of things that could be added, I will add your suggestions. Yeah, the game board is a little flat - doesn't need to be. And there isn't much on the ui to help the first-time player - agreed.
Oh, I've been playing more, and that damn bug needs fixing asap. The CPU also misses some valid chances, which is another bug since the code tests **all** possible combinations! (there aren't many, 4 x 4 operations, then 6 ways to arrange the numbers). Ugh.
Will check out your game, of course
So, you don't like the cheating AI then... I'm on it. It only affects primes(?). Spaghetti code debugging time.
@frittatenbank the planets are on the prime numbers. They all score 50, so best tactic is to grab them (before the AI does).
@mdiyo probably, yes. There was no need for the spiral. Correct...
Thank you for all your kind comments. And the bug reports. Will play/rate all your games, after debugging :scream: cheers @chaosthelegend . I'm biased, love maths and computing (college+ adult ed teacher).
@blurred-lines yup, a hint feature is on my list (limited uses, as you say). Still can't find the AI bug, oh well.
@psiv thanks, not spotted that one. I have a function to check use of all 3 numbers, its clearly rubbish... :sob:
** UPDATE: all versions updated with bug fix, incl web version**
No more AI cheating :smirk_cat: . Let me know if I've introduced any new bugs in the process.
Calling it V1.01, was a 1-line bug - AI checking the wrong tile! Left the v1.0 downloads here, in the spirit of game jam bugginess.
@frittatenbank yes, needs difficulty levels. Currently the AI plays a 'perfect' game. So, well done if you win! Could easily reduce the types of maths it will attempt for easy/medium/hard.
Thanks all, appreciated.
@weine well spotted. as you might guess, quite a few maths games use the idea of forming numbers like this. It does allow players to work at their own level.
@newokmyne yes, I must add instructions, that is very lacking, agreed :/
@dmtroy yeah, was a bit wary of rushing the player into an answer, though that would be the normal thing to do in game like this. With easy/regular/hard modes I'd add that.
I have a long list of entries still to play. Played about 60.
Great game. The mechanics work really nicely, and its fun getting out of tight spots with some accurate squashing :)
Yes, I did enjoy it! Took me a moment to realise the jumping/rising tactic, but it works really well. Very satisfying. Well-made game.
Very nice use of the theme. I liked the retro dungeon crawling style, and weird enemy types. Great job!
This turned out nice! I actually like the controls. Confusing for a moment, but its nice to learn how something works, and its not unpredictable when you've grasped it.
Excellent game - really playable and satisfying to control & shoot.
Nice to see something different. What an ending
Lovely game. The animations are terrific.
Greetings @lost-dutchman-software ! You could've set it inside a tiny Japanese apartment or capsule hotel? I accept your theme usage anyway  - actually, I like entries that think outside the norm, or that use a hobby or interest.
Edit - had the theme been 'Magic' or 'Decay' I was going to use photos from my Pendle walk on saturday and use those for something + witches. Wrong theme.
Sadly, despite going to Japan, and having all kinds of phrase books, I may have forgotten it all... :frowning2:
Nice, stylish game. I liked the addition of the brake control, that adds a lot to it. And gaining lives rather than dying on first hit, again mixes it up. As someone above said, I felt I wanted to go a tiny bit quicker? - though I like the weighty feel.
The death count escalated quickly  Fun idea, well done
Love the art style, great work. And clever use of the theme.
[PS someone post a walkthrough so I can progress further...! ]
fun game - I like how tight the controls are. The visuals are good too - a nice style.
Lovely game, very playable. Great style.
What a lovely game! I died a lot, but thats the point, I think ;) As other said, the amount of items and content is really strong for a compo game, and I loved the pixel art.
Hey @bjeaurn, A survival game I can actually complete, yay! The win screen was cool to reach. Relaxing and brutal at the same time. The food vs energy balance is nicely done, and works really well. A simple change would be to up the movement speed a little (+someone above mentioned inertia/momentum).
@diaonic thank you for playing and commenting! (at least the upload worked?!). Yeah, a bit of subtle shading can give that finishing touch. First version had white background, it looks way better with the grey. Anyway, as mentioned above, I WILL get round to playing & commenting myself, over the coming days.
Oh, a sudden barrage of players :)
@ayxs You are right... SORRY for the sound fx!! I should've recorded my tap running or something, to make some more fitting sounds. As noted in my blog, I always *suck* at sound. Just needed those few extra hours... (/days).
@humphreysmedia water is very easy. They are just Physics2d spheres, as you'd expect. 80 of them per level. But, rendered to a 2nd camera (using a layer to cull it from main camera). This camera has a blur applied, then used as a rendertexture back in the main game, with a cutout shader. I surprised myself with getting this working in about 10 minutes.
As for difficulty, I know LD games are played for a very short time, so I wanted it fun with a gentle learning curve, with players hopefully reaching the end. @themuffinman314 Yes, the screen size did limit my levels. Zooming + scrolling is def required to make anything better than I managed.
Thank you all for playing and giving such nice feedback. Big thanks to @jupiter-hadley for her relentless indie coverage.
I've played/voted on just a few games, I like to give them a proper try. + teaching job wipes out my week :/
So, for @gonzo13 and anyone else:
**SPOILERS for levels 4 & 5**
Level 4: The bucket. Quickly flip it down onto the window ledge. It will help block the right-hand side. Level 5: Make a nice container for all the water (using the 3 main platforms) then slowly release it all, with a little help from the bottom platform.
@frank-gevaerts yup... as mentioned in postmortem blog, I didn't design any levels until Sunday afternoon. Glad you enjoyed it. Reminder to myself: no physics game next time.
@velvetlobster Playing some more games right now, incl yours. Really beautiful experience, my fave so far.
@mrerdalural , @trusty & @scalliondelight thank you for the feedback, can't disagree with any of it.
@scalliondelight yes, the bucket... sort of -- see spoiler above.
The water is just a 'camera trick'! They are simple physics2d circles (physics radius smaller than the sprite), then rendered to another camera, blur applied, then put on a texture with a cut-out shader. It works so well, minimal effort.
I've done a few LD jams now but I'm still in awe of how people create such *big* games in 48 hours. I reached a point where I was *relieved* to create 5 levels and call it done :/ Another few would've been nice.
@icxon you did! yeah, yeah, the difficulty curve isn't ideal. And the bucket doesn't fill with water... But I was pleased with that sneaky level 4 :) And thank you for making a full playthrough, thats so cool.
@weine as someone mentioned, it would need bigger, scrolling levels, and new items, but with some thinking I reckon it could be expanded.
Great entry, and use of the theme. I can imagine really building on this, to have the board react to every word you make [big job, but would be fab].
Ow, my wrist :) The way you control the direction and speed just with this one motion is very novel. Cute and fun game, great job.
Fab entry - interesting mechanics and progression. I like the clean art style and realistic birds - very atmospheric.
Really beautiful experience, my fave LD45 game so far. The graphics, sound & concept all came together so well.
Very cool entry! The graphics+lighting and especially audio make this very unnerving and atmospheric. Enemy design too... Great job. Like others said, a few different enemy attacks/patterns and it becomes even better. But, I also ran out of time on my own game :/
Absolutely fab shooter. The loot was very rewarding :) Getting over-powered after level 10 was cool.
That was a fun one! The controls were a little tricky (due to size of stuff), but not unpredictable. Really good use of the theme.
Lovely game - controls are smooth, and the art is great. As @moebiusmeow said, it is very satisfying to consume things and grow.
Lovely game, very complete. Great use of the theme - it really does start with nothing!
Fab game, enjoyable to play, + I loved the clean B&W pixel art. The shop/items were really well done. The level design is also very well thought out. A great LDjam entry.
Very nice implementation of the theme. I also had to think a little on how it worked, but I got there.
--> I mainly came to say: you are very good at pixel art! <--
It was hard at first, but you do learn the tactics. Really good use of the theme, and *love* the pixel art. Yeah, that enemy AI doesn't mess around! :)
Absolutely lovely game. Graphics and audio are wonderful. I'd really like to play without the timer, it just feels like a game where you wander and discover puzzles etc at your own pace.
Its all been said above, but wow, what a fab, polished, engaging game. This could genuinely become a full release game. LOVE the graphics, music and themes. You're a very talented bunch.
OMG, that is brilliant! Very glad I spotted your entry on the main feed.
LOVE IT! Simple, but perfectly executed.
Thank you for the feedback. Not had time to play any games yet, back at work :/
@ryzy27 So, I kept with the rotation rather than full movement, which is prob not what people expect. Sort of made sense in my head at the time. Originally you were in a ship that circled the level itself - ie you didnt control it at all, and I obv changed that. Full movement would be better now, agreed.
The force applied to the balls depends on distance from contact point (ExplosionForce), ie zapping a point not too close to a ball gives finer control. That was the idea, anyway... zapping a ball directly will fire it into space :) Game instructions/tutorial would help explain this.
Hole collider: yes, bit of a hack since there isn't a real 'hole' in the terrain. If the collider is bigger it looks odd when 'falling' into the hole :(
Yes (@wsKilljoy) I expect mouse movement depends a bit on other factors, like the players mouse settings, which take a lot of testing and tweaking + sensitivity options. ie it seems ok here, but not enough testing on other PCs.
Thanks for all the new plays + comments. Yeeees, you all spot the stuff that should be tweaked ;)
Physics + 3d save some time early on, but add work later (that bloody camera, urgh). @dob I always intend to 'prioritise' sound, and always fail, lol. I had about a day and a half to work on it. Yes, I think people assume you zap the balls directly, but its more a blast radius. Needed a tutorial. UPDATE: video added π
I'm getting down to playing some entries now. This theme turned out well.
Cheers @Issac. Am downloading your entry now. *Yes*, once you master the physics you can go forever... on that hole anyway, would need more courses.
@ShellfishGames - yeah, a small force around the hole would indeed work :/
@randomphanton, @BlazeMcDeezy thank u for your comments, appreciated. Indeed, its just a think to play around with. I did try to make it less floaty, but got so used to the original physics I just kept them... Originally it was much stricter, Game Over for losing a ball, then I realised thats no fun π
Will check out + rate your games.
@lost-dutchman-software & @cornel - thank u so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it π
I suppose I have a fascination with physics games, I tend to go in that direction, though it creates some work with playability and camera. I made a 2d game years ago where you zap a pool table, and a 7DFPS game which was kinda 3d pool with a gun... Next time I should go for something totally outside my 'normal' preferences!
However, I'd not used the Unity terrain tool before. The course is, admittedly, the first thing I bodged together π
Another favourite of mine from this jam is https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/ping-bang-pong -- love it!
@lost-dutchman-software Sure (barryrs @ g mail . com). Like most people, I spend half my time googling the answers. π Theres a built in function 'AddExplosionForce' which did what I wanted:
``` // shoot if (Input.GetMouseButtonDown(0)) { // Find the point we zapped RaycastHit hit; if (Physics.Raycast(transform.position, transform.forward, out hit)) { DoForces(hit.point, hit.transform); } ...
void DoForces(Vector3 hitpt, Transform transf ) { // Find everything within a sphere of the pt we zapped Collider[] colliders = Physics.OverlapSphere(hitpt, 100);
// For all balls within the sphere, apply a force. foreach (var hit in colliders) { if (!hit) continue;
if (hit.transform.tag == "Ball") { // This automatically scales the force depending on distnance from hit pt! hit.GetComponent
} }
```
http://goodreactions.com/poolzap/ (made when I was doing OneGameAMonth).
Excellent game, and great use of the theme π
Awesome little game - very well polished, music and graphics.
Really enjoyed your game, and it mixes the 2 genres very well. The combination is actually rather nice!
Wow - thats a really ambitious jam project! As others mentioned I think, needs some tweaks, but extremely impressive. [played the post jam version]
I couldnt get very far, but great game. Genuinely fun to play!
Great *fun* game - love the hand drawn style, and the various effects you've added to the game.
Awesome use of the theme - and very well polished. GREAT work.
This a a great game! Very enjoyable to play, and implements the theme very well. 5/5 from me, my favourite LD41 game so far.
Wow - what a polished and fun game! That is crazy-good. Lots of subtle gameplay mechanics as you get used to the physics.
