Evolve by Overkill 2014-05-03T08:38:00

Whoa, stunning looking game. Plays well too. Fantastic achievement.

Beneath the Cave by feiss 2014-04-28T12:34:00

Beautiful animations - great stuff.

Project Tethys by vilya 2014-04-28T17:28:00

Very slick, great job. The lighting and music are nice touches.

Cave Beneath The Surface by davidllanos22 2014-04-28T17:42:00

Really enjoyed your game, esp the room layouts and items/abilities, and descending down each floor. Very playable and fun, and great isometric style.

It did freeze (in different places) a couple of times, not sure why (Mac/Chrome).

Without a Paddle by namuol 2014-04-29T20:13:00

Very nice game. Theres more to it than meets the eye, the control of the boat and spear are not the simple approach you might expect.

Wormhunter by Thorig 2014-04-29T18:38:00

Fantastic design and atmosphere. I'd like to see the idea expanded, with more things to collect and fight. Very impressive.

Doug: A Miner Inconvenience by Aaants 2014-05-03T08:46:00

Loved your game. It is indeed really tough, but I hear thats cool these days... :)
Great retro graphics and very playable.

Reggid by bombjack 2014-04-28T20:17:00

Fun game - plays really well. Yeah, needs something else (like enemies) to really complete it, but you've done a great job so far. Death sequence will haunt my dreams :| !!

Beneath The Fun by Mefteg 2014-04-28T10:47:00

That jetski is fun to control! Nice job.

What's Beneath? by Lerc 2014-04-28T11:11:00

Very enjoyable game, controls are spot on, and the artstyle is great.

Topsail by Devon 2014-04-28T18:44:00

Very cool - could definitely lead onto to something with this.

Mine Story by donan 2014-04-28T10:51:00

Great game, very fun to explore!

Sub Bomber by Rahazan 2014-04-28T20:41:00

I really enjoyed controlling the sub - give me enemies to bomb and this would be awesome!

Bellow by RedPanda 2014-04-28T18:53:00

Very eerie and atmospheric - great job! The music is perfect.

Beneath the surface by AshKnight 2014-04-28T18:27:00

This is great! The momentum is a little high, but I quite like it that way. You designed some really good levels too. The background was bonkers crazy, but I think this is a key feature... And, that ending :|

Grimlock's Lair by Supernaught 2014-04-30T17:57:00

Love the art, and very satisfying to play/control. Top job!

Beneath The Sea I Find by FΓΌlo 2014-04-28T17:53:00

Really enjoyed this, interesting quirky style, and some very nice enemy formations and progression.

Chacket Valleyparker: DRILL BUNNY by stvr 2014-04-29T19:56:00

Highly polished game, and fun to play. Very impressive.

Professor Alpha by Marza 2014-05-01T14:34:00

This is brilliant! Great concept, and fiendish level design. The concept really works well.

Mountain King by capnramses 2014-04-28T19:29:00

Great game (if a little difficult). Love the animations, and music.

Skydiver by KeyMaster 2014-04-30T19:23:00

Very impressive, it controls excellently. I hope you develop it into a full game.

It Came From... Beneath!! by Deozaan 2014-04-29T07:45:00

Loved this, it plays really well. The control/motion of the worm feels right to me.
If you can add a few more game elements/levels, that would be awesome.

Mole Position by Glint Games 2014-04-28T10:29:00

Controls are a little tricky (not quite intuitive), but definitely a great effort, and could be developed further.

Hammerhead Sharks Against Humanity by davidcollado 2014-04-28T18:33:00

Great game, very well made. I'd like a way to continue my destruction and extend the time :)

Nutrition by jestar_jokin 2014-04-28T12:25:00

Very interesting concept.
As others said, perhaps with smaller introductory levels first, and hints, could be a very unique game. Great job!

Yellow River Submarine by pawegio 2014-04-28T19:11:00

Enjoyed your game, I think the use of light for powerups is very cool, and perhaps it could focus even more on that aspect.

I reached 9 miles - and become quite good at reverse controls. I thought collecting another wheel would reverse it, but...

Larry The Fish by ztgz 2014-04-28T10:22:00

Fun game, very playable. I like the progression of each level (more than I expected at first).

Stroppy Swan by bazld 2014-04-28T10:56:00

Thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated :)

@Mincemeat Yeah, having the other birds also eat food was the very last thing on my list, but its kind of funny to line up a combo then lose it :D
@Lerc - agreed, the art got so low res that it can be confusing, esp similar colors.

Stroppy Swan by bazld 2014-04-28T11:13:00

@madhoe - agreed, I could have items/creatures breaking thru the surface or something.

Stroppy Swan by bazld 2014-06-28T13:28:00

I released it iOS and Android, for those who can't get enough stroppiness. Its basically the same game, but with added medals and game center. Byeee!

Fish by maloki 2014-04-28T20:34:00

Shows "Failed to download data file" for me (Mac/Chrome). I liked the screenshots, was curious to play!

Deep by ahmeni 2014-04-29T07:48:00

Cute game, I esp like the main character. Great job - the game play really smoothly.

Whistle by AhNinniah 2014-04-29T19:34:00

Creepy, beautiful art, atmosphere.
Not sure if I discovered everything yet...

The Oubliette Within by Dietrich Epp 2014-04-29T20:51:00

Would love to try this, mac/win ideally (else, will try to do a linux build).

The Oubliette Within by Dietrich Epp 2014-05-01T08:08:00

Finally got round to playing it (built the mac version) -- loved it! Very playable mechanics - I thought the shooting/jumping was almost spot-on. The shader effects really give it a great look. Level design was good, and I liked encountering the different characters.

I also got a bit confused with the looping-back mechanic (but I am usually kinda bad at these games), maybe an extra hint or 2 would suffice?

Great job, one of my favourite entries so far.

Arctic Antics by Miltage 2014-04-28T12:18:00

Wonderful game, with excellent art. A little too hard (for me) at the start, perhaps make it a bit easier at the start?

LD30 — Connected Worlds

CandyWorm by midgard 2014-08-25T11:06:00

I enjoyed this one! Wasnt sure exactly the game rules, but control was floaty and fun. I like the style - Proteus meets Snake?

Sideline by Vandash 2014-08-25T07:51:00

I was slightly confused about the abilities, but I think I got it now. Very clever, really good use of the theme. Excellent gfx and audio.

Taxi Copter by Aaron San Filippo 2014-08-26T08:08:00

Fantastic - great controls, graphics and sound. Lots of nice little details, like how the people run to the chopper :)

\ \ World Shift \ \ by lambomang 2014-08-25T12:17:00

Excellent. Very well executed concept. Love the minimalist style too.

GalEx - We Connect Worlds! by markusfisch 2014-08-27T17:43:00

Great fun! Level progression is done really well too. Very original art style, perfect.

PEW PEW PEW PEW by invi 2014-08-25T12:37:00

Excellent concept, and I love the art and sfx. The game is a bit too hard for me, I really wanted to progress more..! Top job though.

Great concept + execution.

twone minds by Tonasz 2014-08-25T08:29:00

Love it! Simply fun to play. Good difficulty level too, lets you learn the rules.

Dare To Drive by Linusson 2014-08-25T18:34:00

Very cool concept, and it plays nicely, great job!

You could do many fun things with this concept; e.g. if both tracks were *almost* the same you could flip between them to avoid obstacles or overtake other cars.

Planet Hop by gavinbowman 2014-08-25T07:44:00

Very cool! The music and beat really work well. This would be good as a quick-play mobile game.

Guardian of Galaxy by monsterkillu 2014-08-25T12:41:00

Ooh, this is a fun little game! The level progression is nice, adding one planet each time. My tactic is always sacrificing planets from the start :)

HeShe by Manou 2014-08-25T09:14:00

Yes, excellent game! Nothing I would change actually. The quirky audio really works too. 5/5

Yume by Nananas 2014-08-25T10:01:00

Beautiful game. Would be interesting to read more about your methods/techniques.

[ Awake ] by Jupitron 2014-08-25T12:02:00

Very enjoyable, and excellently presented. [is the black screen an ending?]. Lots of potential if you continue with this one.

Light&Darkness by xWilQ 2014-08-26T12:08:00

Very clever concepts. Hurt my brain, but in a good way ;) Great job.

Co-orbital by Kuchalu 2014-08-25T18:42:00

Oh, thats a super fun + crazy game! And the music matches it perfectly. I didnt read the instructions to start with, and the resulting chaos was very very funny!

Connected Words by Sophie Houlden 2014-08-25T18:24:00

Nice concept, very cool presentation and feedback. Sneaky title too :)

R-elink: A link between worlds by RaycoSantana 2014-08-25T08:38:00

Oh wow, this is excellent. Would take me a year to make this! [The only thing I would change is the music perhaps, I'd go for something more ambient and mysterious?].

Drift Off by DrMelon 2014-08-25T07:39:00

Great presentation, and interesting linked stories (great use of the theme). You did a lot in 48hrs here!

Escape the Dream by bazld 2014-08-25T08:53:00

@ClownAround yeah, I wanted to introduce new game mechanics but it didn't quite work out (see post mortem). Graphics are a bit different, but so hard to make :P Next time - pixel art!

Escape the Dream by bazld 2014-08-27T21:27:00

Thanks for playing, everyone. I don't know why I made such a strange game(!?), LD makes you try something different. That 'PT' teaser def messed with my head :P

Escape the Dream by bazld 2014-08-27T21:37:00

(oh, and I'm working through as many of your games as I can, reviewed 65 so far...)

Connected Retro Worlds by yodamaster 2014-08-26T08:41:00

Great concept!! Perhaps make it a bit more challenging at the start - the game is best when its challenging you.

The Beginning by Nuclear Napalm 2014-08-27T17:21:00

Very enjoyable game to play, with interesting level design and ideas. I played the simplified version :)

Chroma by Lvyn 2014-08-27T17:09:00

Excellent polished visuals and interesting game mechanic. Amazing you made this in 48hrs!

[ideally, a longer tutorial section would be useful, ie I died a lot...]

Caelum by Rocketship 2014-08-26T09:54:00

Very enjoyable shooter! Controls excellently. + the audio really brings it together. The final theme/boss was cool to discover. Great entry.

Alma by Vallar 2014-08-25T10:30:00

A very imaginative adventure. Is the game over when I sleep? Its gone very dark... And yes, thats a catchy tune :)

Enjoyed your post mortem too - sounds like you learnt a lot (which is a big part of LD).

Connection Chase by Nanofus 2014-08-25T08:25:00

Very enjoyable (and a fully complete game). Like you say, there are more tactics than you think! Reminds me a little of Deus Ex hacking?

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Tightrope Theatre by AdventureIslands 2014-12-08T21:05:00

Brilliant little game! Good controls (well, its supposed to be tricky) and beautiful presentation. How you made this in the allotted time I will never know.

Fun, and plays really well. Nice art style.

Cool concept - love maths :) Very satisfying feedback when clicking. could be a great mobile game too.

Pyramid of death by KedumeBits 2014-12-08T10:19:00

Love this one! Fully embraces the 'one screen' theme, and very playable, tight controls. 5/5 from me :)

Neverending Snow by LittleThor 2014-12-08T13:18:00

Wish I could progress further (sry!), but either way I LOVE what you've achieved here with the art style + atmosphere (and clever use of theme). Great job! An easy 5/5 for mood and graphics.

Entomophobia by DoubleS 2014-12-10T20:42:00

Reluctant Rudolf by ainokaisa 2014-12-08T13:30:00

I whipped him. Then things got really nasty :P !
Fun game!

Off Screen by Bogden 2014-12-08T21:13:00

Super game. really like the changes in motion of the enemy waves. Amazing what you can do with just blobs - it looks great!

Nooo Bath Time!!! by Gabbmonkey 2014-12-08T10:28:00

[Avira reports 'TR/Dropper.gen' in the zip download. ?]

Don't Stop by AndreasL 2014-12-09T15:20:00

Brutal difficulty, but so well done! Great game.

ARENA++ by undefinist 2014-12-09T15:22:00

Great use of theme, and very stylish.

Super Flummi by Scam 2014-12-08T14:22:00

I actually love the 'heavy' inertia here, v interesting to plan your route. Very enjoyable.
And no, I can't complete 20 levels at all ;) (would be nice to 'cheat' and continue my game?).

Snow Need To Rush by SnoutUp 2014-12-08T10:01:00

Great game! Some very imaginative mechanics and animation.

Jamception by Crocanti de Pollo 2014-12-10T21:09:00

Great use of theme, very enjoyable. Really like the art style.

Globo by punkto 2014-12-08T21:18:00

Took me a few tries to 'get' it, but the mechanic to move the balloon is very well done, and satisfying to play. Really nice game!

Release the Yeti by bazld 2014-12-08T11:25:00

Thanks for the comments and feedback!

I agree that goal-based levels/progression would be cool, but you know... 48 hrs :P So, had to keep it simple.

Physics were a bit tricky - the player wants to move fast but it caused glitches if too fast. Certainly can be improved though.

I'll do a post-mortem today, but audio is something I always leave to the last minute. It needs more yells and screams!

Release the Yeti by bazld 2014-12-08T13:35:00

@rzfmzn - oh crikey, I actually had blood splats ready, but decided against it :D Didn't want it to look toooo cruel...

Release the Yeti by bazld 2014-12-08T18:39:00

@ainokaisa - nice, my best was 4100... beaten at my own game ;)

Release the Yeti by bazld 2014-12-09T09:32:00

@Jupiter_Hadley - thanks for the awesome video! The controls are fiddly to start with, I know.

@SeriousDeath - I never allow enough time for audio, and Sfxr produces harsh sounds, I agree.

Will upload full post-mortem later today.

Snamwons Revenge by yodamaster 2014-12-08T14:47:00

Awesome! Gets brain-twistingly tough, but a great game. Sound + graphics are excellent too. 5/5 from me.

The Worm by xWarZonex 2014-12-11T19:29:00

Great game, very playable, and most importantly FUN! Attention to detail (like the heads etc) makes a big difference. Funky music gives it a cool feel.

I'd like the worm to bend a bit, and maybe add some extra dangers underground, and a perhaps some goals/target. I hope you continue updating it.

I am Sigma by GeeItSomeLaldy 2014-12-08T14:26:00

I didnt really expect anything so original from the screenshot -- the game mechanic here is brilliant! One of my favorites so far, great job. 5/5.

Keep Watching by Ken Scott 2014-12-08T11:47:00

Really well implemented idea, very slick.
As Yaroslav said above, it would be cool if the game screen had a little more to it, more interaction.

Path of Thorns by CosyCave 2014-12-09T19:51:00

Excellent! one of my favorites.

Snake Rider by ETHproductions 2014-12-08T20:43:00

Really cool idea to combine these elements!

Snowman Escape by Hatsome 2014-12-08T14:40:00

A simple game, but rather enjoyable! It does what it set out to do. Path finding works well. I like the mechanic/strategy. varying the level layout would be good.

Train your Jedi ! by jarry 2014-12-08T20:24:00

All-round excellent game! The mechanic is really satisfying, makes a change from regular shooters. 5/5 from me.

Sweet Dreams Bear by EvanEGibbs 2014-12-10T10:54:00

Surely wins the cutest game award! Expertly made, I hope you continue with these (mobile versions?).

OhYeah! by Tinimations 2014-12-08T13:10:00

Love this one! Simple idea, but implemented really well. Controls and movement are excellent.

Get Bigger! by admix 2014-12-09T17:04:00

Great fun, and excellent snow effect.

Remote Control by Louisload 2014-12-08T12:59:00

Great idea. And, yes, kinda creepy?!
I really admire entries that fully embraced the theme (I struggled this time).

Don't Fall by SeriousDeath 2014-12-08T11:44:00

Great idea and implementation. Love the graphics + audio too :)

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Clumsy Crew: Incredible Tank by TobiasNL 2015-04-20T09:09:00

Didn't expect such a slick game - plays so well! The malfunctioning tank idea is very original - tho I did find it pretty difficult(!).

Bubble Trubble by Jon Reid 2015-04-20T08:18:00

Very clever puzzler, cute style too.

A.R.B.F. by Zanzlanz 2015-05-02T09:03:00

Adventure Lamp by ryguydavis 2015-04-29T21:01:00

Awesome - one of my faves.

Fireman vs Zombies by ripatti 2015-04-20T07:46:00

Really well done game, with lots of nice attention to detail. Great use of the theme. Moody music.

[PS had to swap your openal32.dll for another one on my machine to get it to run. Win7]

Crash Bomb by Mixer 2015-04-22T12:18:00

Great game - very playable, tight controls. Top job!

bloodshot by rogueNoodle 2015-04-21T14:08:00

Awesome concept, and plays well.

Sal and Papa by McFunkypants 2015-04-21T09:31:00

Super-cute. I know you ran out of time, but I reckon this is sooo close to being a very cool game; the 2-item control thing is strangely satisfying, and it fits perfectly with the salt/pepper idea.

Newt Scoot by CorgiCommander 2015-04-21T08:54:00

Terrific game, wonderful art. The cat is just awesome.

I kinda wish I could control placing of items a *bit* better (to barricade myself in?), but maybe I just suck :P

Color Blind by hbocao 2015-04-20T08:29:00

Very relaxing game - great job!
[wasnt always sure if my colour was matched?]

Iridescent by PixlWalkr 2015-04-20T09:13:00

My favorite so far - love it!

Sticky Bomber by bazld 2015-04-20T19:16:00

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Have posted a short post-mortem on the main page.

@ccglp I got 5080 today :) Yeah, its a bit like some other games, but not completely I hope!
@pixelballoon & @Ossi - I did mess around with the physics settings etc, hard to say what is an ideal setup.

Sticky Bomber by bazld 2015-04-22T18:38:00

@Jupiter_Hadley - thats awesome! I got in early this time :)

Yeah, game had to be simple due to time. Am wondering if the jam might suit me better than the compo next time (but I do prefer to do all art etc myself).

Sticky Bomber by bazld 2015-04-22T22:03:00

@fixitteam - very kind. Will throw it onto mobile asap. Any ideas for power-ups?! I struggled with the new particle system, will replace explosion etc.

TOIL by Luthwyhn 2015-04-22T09:23:00

You definitely have something going here - a kind of QWOP life simulator! An extended version could be really great.

Pooper the Pig! by SelfTitled 2015-04-20T13:04:00

Fun game - turns out there are actually some tactics to pooping..! Cute graphics. Nice job.
I found the controls a little floaty perhaps, could tighten that up.

Giant Spiky Ball of Death by RobotHoboDanceParty 2015-04-21T09:41:00

Very playable and fun game - great job.

Umbrellespionage by Ilseroth 2015-04-20T12:56:00

BodySlam!: Oil Wrestling Simulator by ss64games 2015-04-20T13:10:00

This is great fun! The controls are v smooth, you can actually fight :D

SNIFF by dyfer 2015-04-21T09:00:00

Very clever idea, that hospital feels creepy!

I'd 2nd others comments about tightening the controls, and perhaps the check-pointing.

Bad Tummy Bunny by PachowStudios 2015-04-20T07:09:00

I knew from the title and screenshot this would be awesome! Great entry.

I agree with @factorial that the control wasn't obvious to start with.

Radisheriff by Ourson 2015-05-03T09:01:00

Very enjoyable and playable. Maybe could make more use of the weapon types, but its great fun.

ColorMaze by amonkalagin 2015-04-20T12:43:00

Really nice idea, and very well presented. I can see this expanded to a full game - wanted some trickier levels to try!
[I had trouble with some controls, e.g. how the turret realigned itself].

Crazy Baker by Hammer Games 2015-04-21T08:43:00

Really fun - kudos to the artists especially, great cartoon characters.

Bad and Breakfast by Krisjet 2015-05-03T08:57:00

ScarKrow by Carduus 2015-04-21T12:10:00

Brilliant game, such polish!

LD42 — Running out of space

Triple Tribble Trouble by freso 2018-08-15T19:28:06Z

This is great - the multiplying tribbles was a really good use of the theme. It controls well, and you designed the levels very well, just challenging enough. As mentioned above, perhaps the only unfair bit was dying to tribbles in front of the door. Sneaky blighters. Great LD entry, thanks for making it.

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T17:51:43Z

Thanks, @frozenfire92  I have a list of things that could be added, I will add your suggestions. Yeah, the game board is a little flat - doesn't need to be. And there isn't much on the ui to help the first-time player - agreed.

Oh, I've been playing more, and that damn bug needs fixing asap. The CPU also misses some valid chances, which is another bug since the code tests **all** possible combinations! (there aren't many, 4 x 4 operations, then 6 ways to arrange the numbers). Ugh.

Will check out your game, of course

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T18:57:22Z

So, you don't like the cheating AI then... I'm on it. It only affects primes(?). Spaghetti code debugging time.

@frittatenbank the planets are on the prime numbers. They all score 50, so best tactic is to grab them (before the AI does).

@mdiyo probably, yes. There was no need for the spiral. Correct...

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T19:03:48Z

Thank you for all your kind comments. And the bug reports. Will play/rate all your games, after debugging :scream: cheers @chaosthelegend . I'm biased, love maths and computing (college+ adult ed teacher).

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T19:21:41Z

@blurred-lines yup, a hint feature is on my list (limited uses, as you say). Still can't find the AI bug, oh well.

@psiv thanks, not spotted that one. I have a function to check use of all 3 numbers, its clearly rubbish... :sob:

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T20:27:40Z

** UPDATE: all versions updated with bug fix, incl web version**

No more AI cheating :smirk_cat: . Let me know if I've introduced any new bugs in the process.

Calling it V1.01, was a 1-line bug - AI checking the wrong tile! Left the v1.0 downloads here, in the spirit of game jam bugginess.

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T22:20:46Z

@frittatenbank yes, needs difficulty levels. Currently the AI plays a 'perfect' game. So, well done if you win! Could easily reduce the types of maths it will attempt for easy/medium/hard.

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-16T11:20:04Z

Thanks all, appreciated.

@weine well spotted. as you might guess, quite a few maths games use the idea of forming numbers like this. It does allow players to work at their own level.

@newokmyne yes, I must add instructions, that is very lacking, agreed :/

@dmtroy yeah, was a bit wary of rushing the player into an answer, though that would be the normal thing to do in game like this. With easy/regular/hard modes I'd add that.

I have a long list of entries still to play. Played about 60.

SQUASH KILL by Smithy 2018-08-15T12:42:25Z

Great game. The mechanics work really nicely, and its fun getting out of tight spots with some accurate squashing :)

BLOCKADE by PixelJerry 2018-08-15T13:02:48Z

Yes, I did enjoy it! Took me a moment to realise the jumping/rising tactic, but it works really well. Very satisfying. Well-made game.

Backspace Bouken by Jake White 2018-08-15T15:34:49Z

Very nice use of the theme. I liked the retro dungeon crawling style, and weird enemy types. Great job!

CENTIFEED 2042 by jchaplin 2018-08-14T22:59:01Z

This turned out nice! I actually like the controls. Confusing for a moment, but its nice to learn how something works, and its not unpredictable when you've grasped it.

Space Smash by Alysson Moraes 2018-08-15T12:19:37Z

Excellent game - really playable and satisfying to control & shoot.

The Hero's incredible Chronicles by Gaming Night 2018-08-15T14:09:05Z

Nice to see something different. What an ending

Colouroboros by dmtroy 2018-08-15T13:55:29Z

Lovely game. The animations are terrific.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-14T22:48:04Z

Greetings @lost-dutchman-software ! You could've set it inside a tiny Japanese apartment or capsule hotel? I accept your theme usage anyway  - actually, I like entries that think outside the norm, or that use a hobby or interest.

Edit - had the theme been 'Magic' or 'Decay' I was going to use photos from my Pendle walk on saturday and use those for something + witches. Wrong theme.

Sadly, despite going to Japan, and having all kinds of phrase books, I may have forgotten it all... :frowning2:

Bouncy - A Bouncing Ball Game by ItPlay 2018-08-15T11:46:31Z

Nice, stylish game. I liked the addition of the brake control, that adds a lot to it. And gaining lives rather than dying on first hit, again mixes it up. As someone above said, I felt I wanted to go a tiny bit quicker? - though I like the weighty feel.

Pool Watch by Plukers 2018-08-15T13:11:28Z

The death count escalated quickly  Fun idea, well done

Six Spaces by Star Garden 2018-08-16T18:08:50Z

Love the art style, great work. And clever use of the theme.

[PS someone post a walkthrough so I can progress further...! ]

SystemDefender by Shapkofil 2018-08-14T18:47:58Z

fun game - I like how tight the controls are. The visuals are good too - a nice style.

Park & Match by Carlos Giraldo 2018-08-14T22:29:48Z

Lovely game, very playable. Great style.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Wild Wild Yard by benjamin 2019-10-14T17:13:06Z

What a lovely game! I died a lot, but thats the point, I think ;) As other said, the amount of items and content is really strong for a compo game, and I loved the pixel art.

Bearly Alive by bjeaurn 2019-10-07T19:08:25Z

Hey @bjeaurn, A survival game I can actually complete, yay! The win screen was cool to reach. Relaxing and brutal at the same time. The food vs energy balance is nicely done, and works really well. A simple change would be to up the movement speed a little (+someone above mentioned inertia/momentum).

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-06T21:54:23Z

@diaonic thank you for playing and commenting! (at least the upload worked?!). Yeah, a bit of subtle shading can give that finishing touch. First version had white background, it looks way better with the grey. Anyway, as mentioned above, I WILL get round to playing & commenting myself, over the coming days.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-06T22:24:09Z

@bjeaurn thats really nice feedback, thank you. Yeah, there's a trick for level 4. I was flailing around trying to design levels and was quite pleased with that one, lol. PS you people should get some sleep ;)

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-06T22:28:50Z

Mini postmortem in the blog.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-07T20:44:15Z

Oh, a sudden barrage of players :)

@ayxs You are right... SORRY for the sound fx!! I should've recorded my tap running or something, to make some more fitting sounds. As noted in my blog, I always *suck* at sound. Just needed those few extra hours... (/days).

@humphreysmedia water is very easy. They are just Physics2d spheres, as you'd expect. 80 of them per level. But, rendered to a 2nd camera (using a layer to cull it from main camera). This camera has a blur applied, then used as a rendertexture back in the main game, with a cutout shader. I surprised myself with getting this working in about 10 minutes.

As for difficulty, I know LD games are played for a very short time, so I wanted it fun with a gentle learning curve, with players hopefully reaching the end. @themuffinman314 Yes, the screen size did limit my levels. Zooming + scrolling is def required to make anything better than I managed.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-08T17:38:13Z

Thank you all for playing and giving such nice feedback. Big thanks to @jupiter-hadley for her relentless indie coverage.

I've played/voted on just a few games, I like to give them a proper try. + teaching job wipes out my week :/

So, for @gonzo13 and anyone else:

**SPOILERS for levels 4 & 5**

Level 4: The bucket. Quickly flip it down onto the window ledge. It will help block the right-hand side. Level 5: Make a nice container for all the water (using the 3 main platforms) then slowly release it all, with a little help from the bottom platform.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-09T20:45:44Z

@frank-gevaerts yup... as mentioned in postmortem blog, I didn't design any levels until Sunday afternoon. Glad you enjoyed it. Reminder to myself: no physics game next time.

@velvetlobster Playing some more games right now, incl yours. Really beautiful experience, my fave so far.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-10T17:00:50Z

@mrerdalural , @trusty & @scalliondelight thank you for the feedback, can't disagree with any of it.

@scalliondelight yes, the bucket... sort of -- see spoiler above.

The water is just a 'camera trick'! They are simple physics2d circles (physics radius smaller than the sprite), then rendered to another camera, blur applied, then put on a texture with a cut-out shader. It works so well, minimal effort.

I've done a few LD jams now but I'm still in awe of how people create such *big* games in 48 hours. I reached a point where I was *relieved* to create 5 levels and call it done :/ Another few would've been nice.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-14T18:06:32Z

@icxon you did! yeah, yeah, the difficulty curve isn't ideal. And the bucket doesn't fill with water... But I was pleased with that sneaky level 4 :) And thank you for making a full playthrough, thats so cool.

@weine as someone mentioned, it would need bigger, scrolling levels, and new items, but with some thinking I reckon it could be expanded.

Unwatered by bazld 2019-10-22T14:24:59Z

@blaster391 thanks for the feedback (not played your game yet, on it...). Yeah, I saw that annoying bug, thought it was a one-off, then I keep seeing it :/ All it does it detect first collision with the pot, how can that go wrong? Classic bug.

Word Crush by lunarDust 2019-10-12T14:53:50Z

Great entry, and use of the theme. I can imagine really building on this, to have the board react to every word you make [big job, but would be fab].

The Monkey and the Tree by Apace 2019-10-07T20:51:18Z

Ow, my wrist :) The way you control the direction and speed just with this one motion is very novel. Cute and fun game, great job.

Wisp by mikymod 2019-10-23T15:27:09Z

Lovely, slick game. Simple but excellent graphics and audio, top job.

Nightbirds by Jiri Hysek 2019-10-14T17:26:55Z

Fab entry - interesting mechanics and progression. I like the clean art style and realistic birds - very atmospheric.

When Nothing Came by velvetlobster 2019-10-09T20:46:41Z

Really beautiful experience, my fave LD45 game so far. The graphics, sound & concept all came together so well.

Deadrun II by jcmoyer 2019-10-13T16:18:48Z

Very cool entry! The graphics+lighting and especially audio make this very unnerving and atmospheric. Enemy design too... Great job. Like others said, a few different enemy attacks/patterns and it becomes even better. But, I also ran out of time on my own game :/

Loot Simulator 2019 by Adam Gaskins 2019-10-09T17:50:32Z

Absolutely fab shooter. The loot was very rewarding :) Getting over-powered after level 10 was cool.

We've Got Nothing by Doey 2019-10-12T15:12:53Z

That was a fun one! The controls were a little tricky (due to size of stuff), but not unpredictable. Really good use of the theme.

Ooze for the Ooze Gods by maxdmg 2019-10-14T17:16:42Z

Lovely game - controls are smooth, and the art is great. As @moebiusmeow said, it is very satisfying to consume things and grow.

Nothing In The Way by JediNeeson 2019-10-07T20:30:02Z

Lovely game, very complete. Great use of the theme - it really does start with nothing!

Sluggish Grind by Catusfelony 2019-10-23T15:35:38Z

Fab game, enjoyable to play, + I loved the clean B&W pixel art. The shop/items were really well done. The level design is also very well thought out. A great LDjam entry.

Scrap Seekers by Gonzo13 2019-10-07T20:59:28Z

Very nice implementation of the theme. I also had to think a little on how it worked, but I got there.

--> I mainly came to say: you are very good at pixel art! <--

Nun in the Chamber by BrokenMirrorMedia 2019-10-08T21:05:06Z

It was hard at first, but you do learn the tactics. Really good use of the theme, and *love* the pixel art. Yeah, that enemy AI doesn't mess around! :)

Snow Ball by Cryptex 2019-10-08T21:13:47Z

Very well made game, the controls are super-satisfying, and the katamari style build up looks perfect.

I struggled in a few places to read the upcoming terrain change. Bit of extra shading/shadow, maybe. Minor stuff, great entry.

Memories of Eleph by Leandroc 2019-10-21T14:29:55Z

Absolutely lovely game. Graphics and audio are wonderful. I'd really like to play without the timer, it just feels like a game where you wander and discover puzzles etc at your own pace.

You Broke the Game by OlegKlishin 2019-10-14T20:10:10Z

Its all been said above, but wow, what a fab, polished, engaging game. This could genuinely become a full release game. LOVE the graphics, music and themes. You're a very talented bunch.

OMG, that is brilliant! Very glad I spotted your entry on the main feed.

Legend of Zoom by pkenney 2018-04-27T20:39:26Z

LOVE IT! Simple, but perfectly executed.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-24T05:31:49Z

Thank you for the feedback. Not had time to play any games yet, back at work :/

@ryzy27 So, I kept with the rotation rather than full movement, which is prob not what people expect. Sort of made sense in my head at the time. Originally you were in a ship that circled the level itself - ie you didnt control it at all, and I obv changed that. Full movement would be better now, agreed.

The force applied to the balls depends on distance from contact point (ExplosionForce), ie zapping a point not too close to a ball gives finer control. That was the idea, anyway... zapping a ball directly will fire it into space :) Game instructions/tutorial would help explain this.

Hole collider: yes, bit of a hack since there isn't a real 'hole' in the terrain. If the collider is bigger it looks odd when 'falling' into the hole :(

Yes (@wsKilljoy) I expect mouse movement depends a bit on other factors, like the players mouse settings, which take a lot of testing and tweaking + sensitivity options. ie it seems ok here, but not enough testing on other PCs.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-25T20:54:37Z

Thanks for all the new plays + comments. Yeeees, you all spot the stuff that should be tweaked ;)

Physics + 3d save some time early on, but add work later (that bloody camera, urgh). @dob I always intend to 'prioritise' sound, and always fail, lol. I had about a day and a half to work on it. Yes, I think people assume you zap the balls directly, but its more a blast radius. Needed a tutorial. UPDATE: video added πŸ‘

I'm getting down to playing some entries now. This theme turned out well.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-26T20:06:56Z

Cheers @Issac. Am downloading your entry now. *Yes*, once you master the physics you can go forever... on that hole anyway, would need more courses.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-27T15:56:38Z

@ShellfishGames - yeah, a small force around the hole would indeed work :/

@randomphanton, @BlazeMcDeezy thank u for your comments, appreciated. Indeed, its just a think to play around with. I did try to make it less floaty, but got so used to the original physics I just kept them... Originally it was much stricter, Game Over for losing a ball, then I realised thats no fun 😏

Will check out + rate your games.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-29T19:12:23Z

@lost-dutchman-software & @cornel - thank u so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it 😊

I suppose I have a fascination with physics games, I tend to go in that direction, though it creates some work with playability and camera. I made a 2d game years ago where you zap a pool table, and a 7DFPS game which was kinda 3d pool with a gun... Next time I should go for something totally outside my 'normal' preferences!

However, I'd not used the Unity terrain tool before. The course is, admittedly, the first thing I bodged together πŸ™„

Another favourite of mine from this jam is https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/ping-bang-pong -- love it!

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-29T20:29:41Z

@lost-dutchman-software Sure (barryrs @ g mail . com). Like most people, I spend half my time googling the answers. 😎 Theres a built in function 'AddExplosionForce' which did what I wanted:

``` // shoot if (Input.GetMouseButtonDown(0)) { // Find the point we zapped RaycastHit hit; if (Physics.Raycast(transform.position, transform.forward, out hit)) { DoForces(hit.point, hit.transform); } ...
void DoForces(Vector3 hitpt, Transform transf ) { // Find everything within a sphere of the pt we zapped Collider[] colliders = Physics.OverlapSphere(hitpt, 100);
// For all balls within the sphere, apply a force. foreach (var hit in colliders) { if (!hit) continue;
if (hit.transform.tag == "Ball") { // This automatically scales the force depending on distnance from hit pt! hit.GetComponent().AddExplosionForce(40, hitpt, 75, 0.0f, ForceMode.VelocityChange); }
} }
```

Jammer Tank by Jonnymentero 2018-04-27T16:05:34Z

Wow - what a polished and fun game! That is crazy-good. Lots of subtle gameplay mechanics as you get used to the physics.
